The article presents the significance of various forms of informal, extrainstitutional help, offered to people who experience critical life events or undergo liminal experiences. The authoress describes various everyday support practices (showing interest, accompanying, taming, verifying resources, exchanging experiences). By using experiences of anthropologists of language, Elzbieta Siarkiewicz attempts to show and define the concept of performative counseling, and indicates the power and efficiency (actual and symbolic) of statements made by informal advisers, which in a given context become agents that act, help, etc. The article presents how everyday informal forms of assistance can influence an individual to devote effort (both cognitive and behavioural) to reduce tension, regulate emotions, solve problems. Moreover, the article describes the ways that may lead to acquisition and activation of self-help mechanisms in people undergoing liminal, traumatic experiences.

In the professional literature regarding the various aspects of the nature on counseling, two terms that define the work of the school counselor stand out in particular: guidance and counseling (Kligman, 1990). The role of the educational counselor could be defined as a unique individual contact which purpose is to promote change and growth in three aspects: personal development, social adjustment and professional development. By this definition, counseling is perceived as a dynamic process characterized by the change in the consultee (Kligman, 1990). Educational counseling is meant to advance the emotional, cognitive and social development of the pupil population in the education system, and to lead the construction of an environment that allows for mental well-being for those growing in it, Educational counseling is aimed to assist the student as an individual, and to the school as a social-organizational system, to reach maximum functionality and to best extract their capabilities from emotional well-being in a supportive and accepting environment (Shefi, Psychilogical Counseling Service (Shefi) policy issue: Work as a Consultant in early childhood, 2002). The counselor is the system’s mental well-being go-to man. His availability inside the school faculty allows him to assist both the individual and the environment, to take the best actions whilst rapidly responding to the student, the faculty and the parents. His location as a faculty member enables him to simultaneously see various, and sometimes opposite, needs of all the target audiences, and to hold a balanced perspective on regulation, to arbitrate and mediate opposite stances. The counselor is a liaison with a systematic viewpoint from inside the school and between the school and the community. His professional purpose regards the entire student population whilst taking into account their various needs and the obligated response these variation dictate.

The aim of the article is to indicate the reasons for institutional changes in the provision of specialist counseling services in Poland. The author poses a thesis that specialist counseling is too closely associated with the social assistance system and becomes synonymous with social counseling. This results in lack of universality of the service which is directed almost exclusively to beneficiaries of social security. In the meantime, specialist counseling should “overtake” the social security system and act immediately after the problem has been identified, in the early stages of a difficult situation. The article is of analyticalempirical nature. The presented position results from the quantitative and qualitative analysis of research carried out among representatives of social services, specialists, local authorities, representatives of the III sector, people managing social security systems and local communities.

The paper is part of a larger project aimed at researching the counseling taking place in the television space, that is counseling which is “happening” through television, on television and even with it. The research is carried out using the method of discourse analysis which applies a three-element tool by Teun van Dijk (language – interaction – idea), as well as directed interviews and written essays of viewers on their experience with this type of counseling. The presented article is an attempt to describe the television world of advice, which is understood by the author as counseling practices penetrating to various television offers. The main goal was to look at how this world of advice is presented. The author has been inspired by three conventions of presenting reality on television described by Maciej Mrozowski (imitating reality, seemingly imitating reality and those that establish their own order). On the basis of the analyzes carried out, three main ways of presenting the television world of advice – reflecting, creating and drifting – have been distinguished. The first involves the literal, real and authentic meeting between a person acting as an adviser with a person experiencing a problem through a television medium. The second way involves the deliberate and conscious creation of a television counseling offer, according to the selective, interpretative and staging logic. The third way of presenting the television world of advice includes free (involuntary) flow of counseling information which, woven into a television narrative, finds viewers seeking advice in everyday life.
Opracowanie jest częścią większego projektu mającego na celu zbadanie poradnictwa rozgrywającego się w przestrzeni telewizyjnej, czyli takiego, które „dzieje się” poprzez telewizję, w telewizji, a nawet wraz z nią. Badania są realizowane metodą analizy dyskursu z wykorzystaniem trójelementowego narzędzia autorstwa Teuna van Dijka (język – interakcja – idea), jak również kierowanych rozmów i pisemnych wypowiedzi telewidzów na temat ich sposobów doświadczania tego rodzaju poradnictwa. Prezentowany artykuł jest próbą opisu telewizyjnego świata porad, przez który autorka rozumie praktyki poradnicze przenikające do różnorodnych ofert telewizyjnych. Głównym celem było przyjrzenie się temu, w jaki sposób ów świat porad jest prezentowany. Teoretyczną inspiracją autorki stały się trzy konwencje telewizyjnego prezentowania rzeczywistości, autorstwa Macieja Mrozowskiego (naśladujące rzeczywistość, pozornie naśladujące rzeczywistość oraz takie, które ustanawiają własny porządek). Na postawie przeprowadzonych analiz wyodrębnione zostały trzy główne sposoby prezentowania telewizyjnego świata porad – odzwierciedlanie, kreowanie oraz dryfowanie. Pierwszy polega na dosłownym, realnym i autentycznym spotkaniu osoby pełniącej rolę doradcy z osobą doświadczającą problemu za pośrednictwem telewizyjnego medium. Drugi sposób wiąże się z celowym i świadomym tworzeniem poradniczej oferty telewizyjnej, według selekcyjnej, interpretacyjnej i inscenizacyjnej logiki. Trzeci sposób prezentowania telewizyjnego świata porad polega na swobodnym (mimowolnym wręcz) przepływie poradniczych informacji, które wplecione w telewizyjną narrację zastają radzącego się w jego codzienności.

Celem artykułu jest ponowne przyjrzenie się ważnemu elementowi relacji poradniczej – interakcyjności. Autorka podejmuje próbę opisania go w kontekście zmian związanych z rozwojem poradnictwa w masowej komunikacji. Artykuł rozpoczyna się od przypomnienia dotychczasowego rozumienia interakcyjności poradnictwa po to, by ukazać zmiany, jakie zaszły w jej postrzeganiu. W artykule autorka prezentuje część swoich badań na temat poradnictwa zapośredniczonego we współczesnej ofercie telewizyjnej. W opisie odwołuje się do trójelementowego metodologicznego narzędzia autorstwa Teuna van Dijka (te trzy elementy to – język, idea oraz interakcja społeczna). Autorkę interesował więc sposób komunikowania się doradcy i klienta w zapośredniczonej sytuacji poradniczej. Interesowała ją też myśl przewodnia, a więc idea wyznaczająca cel oraz kierunek podejmowanych działań. Ważna okazała się również interakcja, czyli to, w jaki sposób oddziaływały na siebie podmioty analizowanych zdarzeń. W toku prowadzonych analiz autorka wyodrębniła trzy rodzaje sytuacji poradniczych, z których każda budowana jest na innym typie interakcji. Są to: sytuacja rozmowy, komentarza oraz quasi-empatycznej prezentacji. Wyniki analizy umożliwiły autorce zaproponowanie redefinicji słowa poradnictwo.
The purpose of this article is to revise an important element of the relationship of advice – interactivity. The author attempts to describe it in the context of the changes associated with the development of guidance in mass communication. The article begins with recalling the current understanding of the interactivity of counseling. It also shows the changes that have occurred in the perception of interactivity. In the article the author presents some of the research on mediated counseling in contemporary television. The description refers to the 3 element methodological tools by Teun van Dijk (these three elements are: the language, the idea and the social interaction). The author investigated how the counselor and the client of mediated counseling communicate with each other (language). She was interested in a keynote (idea) which defines the purpose and direction of the advisory activities. The interaction (how counselor and client interact) was also important. The author has identified three types of advisory situations; each of them created by another type of interaction. These are: the situation of conversation, commentary and quasi-empathetic presentation. The results of the analysis enabled the author to propose a redefinition of the word counseling.

Background. The fears, concerns, and negative attitudes of pregnant women towards sex during pregnancy can have a negative impact on the sexual relationship and sexual performance of couples. Objectives. We aimed to determine the effects of cognitive-behavioral counseling on misconceptions about sexual intercourse during pregnancy in pregnant women. Material and methods. In this randomized educational study, five clinics were randomly selected in Arak, Iran. A total of 20 pregnant women who met the inclusion criteria were selected from each clinic. The Misconceptions about Sexual Intercourse during Pregnancy Questionnaire (MSIP-Q) was completed after written informed consent. Finally, twenty-two women with the lowest scores on the MSIP-Q were selected. Eleven subjects were allocated to the intervention group (cognitive-behavioral counseling), while eleven subjects were assigned to the control group. The questionnaire was also completed by the participants over a three-month interval. For statistical analysis, descriptive and inferential statistics (student’s t-test, paired t-test and Fisher exact test) were calculated using SPSS software. Results. The mean MSIP-Q score was 77.81 ± 10.03 in the intervention group and 71.27 ± 8.29 in the control group before the intervention; no significant difference was found between the groups. On the other hand, the mean MSIP-Q score was 113.3 ± 11.16 in the intervention group and 76.90 ± 19.07 in the control group following cognitive-behavioral counseling; a significant difference was found between the two groups (p < 0.001). Based on the findings, no significant difference was reported in the intervention group in the three-month follow-up; in fact, the effects of training remained stable. Conclusions. This study showed that there are misconceptions about vaginal intercourse during pregnancy in Iranian women. Therefore, providing sexual health services and training during pregnancy are necessary at health clinics

The aim of the article is to analyze “criticism” and “understanding” in their relation to philosophical counseling. The article begins by the thesis on the need to define this type of counseling as an equivalent relationship between a counselor and a client. This claim is based mainly on the Socratic sense of the essence of philosophizing as a common pursuit of wisdom and cognition. Next, criticism and understanding which seem to be abstract concepts that belong to specific doctrines are considered as useful tools in the process of creating a philosophical attitude. In this sense, they acquire their existential aspect and prove useful in the practical application of philosophy.

The presented contribution deals with the issue of alcohol dependence in a modern day family from a viewpoint of family counseling. The methodology of family counseling related to recovery process of a family member addicted to alcohol is considered a major problem. A primary research goal was to clarify the status and changes of family counseling in the recovery process with regard to time factor. This goal emerges especially from the lack of clarity and non-systematic nature of family counseling in Slovakia. The main method was a semi-structured interview. Interviews with family counseling and/or alcohol dependence experts were analyzed by means of interpretative content analysis. Interviews with family members were subjected to a phenomenological data analysis. Analysis results were transparently presented by the author in the tables of common topics reflecting subjectively per ceived status of family counseling in Slovakia. The author can, among other things, state that the methodology of family counseling in Slovakia does not exist and unification of these methods is not expressly desirable from the experts’ point of view. She also points to a number of weaknesses of family counseling which need to be solved in a system way. Interpretation of experts’ results is complemented by the counseling experience of families themselves, where always one member was addicted to alcohol. The time factor is at the same time important especially in the three years of family counseling which is marked by the occurrence of most life changes.
