Opis:
Purpose: The paper aims to show the application of the Balanced Scorecard in a mining services company as a tool enabling the implementation of the company's strategy. Design/methodology/approach: The aim of the paper will be achieved through web/desk research, critical analysis of literature on the topic of the paper and case study. Findings: The article contains a literature study of the Balanced Scorecard and indicates how important the development and implementation of the strategy is in the activities of mining services companies. The process of developing the strategy and its implementation is shown on the example of a mining services company (Polish abbreviation p.u.g.), existing on the mining industry market for more than twenty years, employing from 300 to 500 employees, depending on the situation in the market, with a defined mission and vision. The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) was used as a tool for translating the company's strategy into its operations. The strategic objectives and their measures, as well as the conditions for adopting BSC into the operations of a mining services company, are presented. Originality/value: The example of the application of the Balanced Scorecard in the selected mining services company presented in the article may serve as an example for other mining companies.

Introduction/background: The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) uses strategic initiatives as the primary means of implementing the strategy and achieving the strategic objectives. Although initiatives are crucial to implementing the strategy, the academic literature on them is scarce. Most BSC publications deal with strategic goals, metrics and indicators (including KPIs - key performance indicators). There is variety of methods to identify and evaluate strategic initiatives depending on the type of organisation, its size and other situational features. Aim of the paper: The aim of the paper is to present the essence and a role of strategic initiatives in implementing organisation strategy. Moreover, different practical approaches are presented and discussed on the basis of the selected cases. Based on the cases described, a general typology of strategic initiatives was proposed. Materials and methods: In the paper, the critical literature review is used to determine the theoretical understanding of strategic initiatives supporting strategic management process using BSC. Case studies of four selected organisations are used to present the practical aspects of strategic initiative. Results and conclusions: As a result, the paper shows the links between BSC strategic initiatives and project management. Different types of strategic initiatives and three levels of strategic initiatives in organisations were identified and discussed. The proposed typology allows us to reflect on strategic initiatives from a broader perspective.

The strategic scorecard represents a major element of an enterprise's management system, which contributes to improving the key areas of operation, as well as precisely defining operational goals, metrics and tasks within the strategical framework. Increasing competitiveness, as well as progressive globalisation of the Transport, Shipping and Logistics (TSL) services market, requires constant adaptation to change from managers. It is, therefore, appropriate to use the strategic scorecard as it can be applied for continuous monitoring of progress in the implementation of strategy and, if necessary, for enhancing actions and the measurement system. The authors analysed a transport company operating in the Podkarpackie Voivodship, with the implementation of the strategic scorecard. The purpose of this article was to create a strategic scorecard for the transport company in the context of streamlining transport processes, while simultaneously improving the quality of customer service, translating into maximising financial results.

Opis:
This article presents the justification for the relevance of the method for assessing the performance of an airline company. Based on a survey of foreign sources, it was proposed to use the integrated method of the analytic hierarchy process using the example of “Air Astana”. The results of the method are described based on the determination of effective indicators. The conclusions are arrived at on the expediency of applying the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) approach for the evaluation the airline's performance. The priority (importance) and weight of all perspectives and the corresponding indicators are determined according to the proposed method. A method of assessing the probability degree of fuzzy numbers is applied to calculate the weights of the indicators (perspectives). The results of the study show that the company will be able to monitor the effectiveness of its activities using selected indicators for each perspective. The application of the instruments enhances the effectiveness of management activities of the airline and confirms the relevance of a follow-up study of the problem. This approach can be used for the management of companies in different sectors of the national economy to enhance the efficiency of management decision-making.

Ever new laws, changes in standards and new requirements for the basic conditions for comprehen- sive IT protection, coupled with ever new technical innovations and thus also new techniques and possibilities for attacks from the network, are causing problems for banks in complying with all these regulations. This article is intended to present how these problems and challenges present themselves, and a concrete procedural model must be presented to the banks during the planning stage of IT ma- nagement, which ultimately turns the current challenges into a management task. In order for banks to be able to offer a better state of their own knowledge of IT and IT security again and to put them in a stronger position than the specialists who previously had a certain knowledge advantage and were able to use this to the disadvantage of the banks.

Many hospital rankings are based on algorithms and weights elicited by experts. The paper attempts to build rankings of Polish district hospitals using the TOPSIS method and to examine the sensitivity of the results to the changes in weights. We considered 11 large and 34 medium-sized hospitals. The criteria set consists of man-days total, profit/loss on sales, contract with the National Health Fund, return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE). Because of this, rankings take into account different spheres in which hospitals perform, including the financial aspect and their main goal, i.e. treating patients. The results show that despite the overall high similarity of rankings, the benchmarking based on rankings should be done with care as the positions of some individual hospitals changed to a great degree.

The low number of company participants are participating in the implementation of corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosures in Indonesia is due to several factors. The first factor is that companies consider implementing CSR to increase costs. Second, the lack of impact that is felt directly by the company. Third, the government has so far not conducted evaluations and monitoring in encouraging the implementation of CSR. Thus, this study examines the environmental perspectives in measuring company performance using a balanced scorecard perspective can change the company's mindset in CSR disclosure. So this research examines and tests the company's environmental performance using a balanced scorecard perspective. The sample used in this study amounted to 10 companies that met the purposive sampling criteria. This test uses path Analysis using the Smart-PLS application program in the data processing. The results showed that learning and growth perspective performance did not affect the performance of internal business process perspectives, internal business process perspective performance had a significant effect on consumer perspective performance, consumer perspective performance has a significant impact on financial perspective performance (income ), consumer perspective performance has no impact on financial perspective performance (CFOA), consumer perspective performance has a significant effect on financial perspective performance (ROA), financial perspective performance (income) is having a significant impact on environmental perspective performance ( implementation of CSR), financial perspective performance (CFOA) does not affect environmental perspective performance (CSR implementation), financial perspective performance (ROA) significantly influences environmental perspective performance (CSR implementation).
Niska liczba uczestników firmy bierze udział w realizacji ujawnień dotyczących społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu (CSR) w Indonezji z powodu kilku czynników. Pierwszym czynnikiem jest to, że firmy rozważają wdrożenie CSR w celu zwiększenia kosztów. Po drugie, brak wpływu odczuwany bezpośrednio przez firmę. Po trzecie, rząd do tej pory nie przeprowadził ocen i monitorowania w celu zachęcania do wdrażania CSR. W związku z tym niniejsze badanie analizuje perspektywy środowiskowe w mierzeniu wyników firmy za pomocą zrównoważonej perspektywy karty wyników, może zmienić sposób myślenia firmy w zakresie ujawniania CSR. Dlatego te badania sprawdzają i testują wyniki środowiskowe firmy przy użyciu zrównoważonej perspektywy karty wyników. Próba zastosowana w tym badaniu wyniosła 10 firm, które spełniły kryteria celowego doboru próby. W tym teście wykorzystywana jest analiza ścieżki przy użyciu aplikacji Smart-PLS do przetwarzania danych. Wyniki pokazały, że wyniki perspektywy uczenia się i wzrostu nie wpłynęły na wyniki wewnętrznych procesów biznesowych, wyniki wewnętrznych procesów biznesowych miały znaczący wpływ na wyniki perspektywy konsumenta, wyniki perspektywy konsumenta miały znaczący wpływ na wyniki perspektywy finansowej (dochód), konsumenta wyniki w perspektywie nie mają wpływu na wyniki w perspektywie finansowej (CFOA), wyniki w perspektywie konsumenta mają znaczący wpływ na wyniki w perspektywie finansowej (ROA), wyniki w perspektywie finansowej (dochód) mają znaczący wpływ na wyniki w perspektywie środowiskowej (wdrożenie CSR), finansowe wyniki w perspektywie (CFOA) nie wpływają na wyniki w perspektywie środowiskowej (wdrożenie CSR), wyniki w perspektywie finansowej (ROA) znacząco wpływają na wyniki w perspektywie środowiskowej (wdrożenie CSR).

Purpose: The Balanced Scorecard is a useful tool for implementation and monitoring of the strategy in a training company. The article aims to present the main aspects of the process of implementation of this strategic method in a business practice. The theoretical part of the article discusses both the essence and the four key areas of Balanced Scorecard: internal development and innovation, internal processes, client and finance. The practical part of article focuses mainly on the process of implementation of Balanced Scorecard in a training company, including the description of the Balanced Scorecard implementation stages in an enterprise providing training services. The study also contains a specification of indicators to measure the achievement level of strategic objectives. Design/methodology/approach: The author of the article used research methods: literature review as well as case study based on her own observations and experiences while working as a trainer and business consultant in project teams. Findings: Guidelines for using the Balanced Scorecard in a training company, as well as sample indicators to measure the strategic results. Originality/value: The article may be useful for managers (and all the people responsible for management processes) of training companies who are looking for methods to measure strategic goals.

The main purpose of this research is to investigate the determinants for leaning and growth for sustainable development of logistics companies in Thailand. There are two theories contributions which are (1) strategic competitive advantages and (2) balanced scorecard. This research used the questionnaire mailing; the surveys completed and returned of 84 respondents. The key informants were the chief exeuctive officer, managing directors, or managers of logistics companies in Thailand. The logistics companies must be registered as members of the Thai International Freight Forwarders Association (TIFFA). The results suggested managers to focus on the management philosophy that promotes new ideas and proactive working climate with technology. The technology and its application can support working proficiency for employees. Concentrating on strategic competitive advantages determinants (especially, technology) can result in companies’ success. Moreover, technology can help to revolutionize operational processes and practices, enhance the efficiency of operations, build and capture the opportunities in the market and offer new values to customers and stakeholders.
Artykuł poświęcony jest zbadaniu czynników warunkujących oczekiwanie i rozwój w celu osiągnięcia zrównoważonego rozwoju firm logistycznych w Tajlandii. Istnieją dwie teorie, które stanowią (1) strategiczną przewagę konkurencyjną i (2) zrównoważoną kartę wyników. W badaniach wykorzystano wysyłane kwestionariusze, ankiety wypełniło i zwróciło 84 respondentów. Kluczowymi informatorami byli: naczelni dyrektorzy wykonawczy, dyrektorzy zarządzający lub kierownicy firm logistycznych w Tajlandii. Firmy logistyczne muszą być zarejestrowane jako członkowie Thai International Freight Forwarders Association (TIFFA). Wyniki sugerują menedżerom skupienie się na filozofii zarządzania promującej nowe pomysły i proaktywny klimat pracy dzięki technologii. Technologia i jej zastosowanie mogą wspierać sprawność pracowników. Koncentracja na strategicznych determinantach przewagi konkurencyjnej (szczególnie technologii) może przynieść sukces firmom. Ponadto technologia może pomóc zrewolucjonizować procesy i praktyki operacyjne, zwiększyć wydajność operacji, budować i wykorzystywać szanse na rynku oraz oferować nowe wartości klientom i interesariuszom.

Attending the important role of maintenance function in any production or service provider company, the measurement and assessment of maintenance performance is crucial for competitiveness and future survival. That situation is even more critical in urban transport fleets where some specific boundary conditions and special characteristics will affect maintenance policy and implementation. This paper presents a deep review of different studies worldwide to define the most proper and effective maintenance performance indicators, selecting and refining the most important ones to obtain a reduced maintenance management balanced scorecard. That balanced scorecard is proposed as a main tool for urban transport fleet maintenance managers to assess efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance processes and will be used as a basis for a future benchmarking process for this type of companies.
Biorąc pod uwagę ważną rolę jaką pełni utrzymanie ruchu w firmach produkcyjnych i usługowych, pomiar i ocena wydajności eksploatacji ma kluczowe znaczenie dla konkurencyjności tych firm i ich przetrwania na rynku. Sytuacja ta jest szczególnie ważna w zakładach komunikacji miejskiej, w których pewne szczególne warunki brzegowe i szczególne cechy floty transportowej mają wpływ na politykę utrzymania ruchu i jej realizację. W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono dokładny przegląd różnych badań prowadzonych na całym świecie w celu określenia najbardziej odpowiednich i skutecznych wskaźników efektywności utrzymania ruchu, wybierając najważniejsze z nich i i udoskonalając je tak aby uzyskać zrównoważoną kartę wyników zarządzania utrzymaniem ruchu z ograniczoną liczbą parametrów. Zrównoważona karta wyników może być stosowana przez specjalistów utrzymania ruchu zakładów komunikacji miejskiej do oceny wydajności i skuteczności procesów konserwacji i stanowić będzie podstawę przyszłych analiz porównawczych dla tego typu przedsiębiorstw.

This paper aims to rank strategic objectives in a strategy map to improve the efficiency of strategy implementation. Objectives are ranked based on strategic destinations using the combination of Logarithmic Fuzzy Preference Programming (LFPP) and similarity method. In the first step, the weight of strategic destinations is obtained using LFPP technique; then objectives are ranked by similarity method. Similarity method uses the concept of alternative gradient and magnitude for effectively solving the general multi-criteria analysis problem. Finally, objectives are ranked in an actual strategy map. As a practical and efficient tool, the proposed approach can assist managers and decision-makers in drawing more efficient output from strategy maps.

Doświadczenia ostatnich lat wskazują na głębokie zmiany podejścia do potrzeby rozwoju w jednostkach samorządu terytorialnego. Od urzędników wymaga się skupianie nie tylko na miernikach finansowych, ale również na zaangażowaniu w działania prorozwojowe, które to w efekcie decydują o sukcesie tych organizacji. Specyfika funkcjonowania sektora budżetowego wymusza prezentowanie różnorodnych mierników, jednak proces pomiaru nie może być celem samym w sobie. W literaturze przedmiotu wskazuje się zrównoważoną kartę wyników jako narzędzie wykorzystujące wielopłaszczyznowe metody oceny działań rozwojowych. W związku z tym głównym celem artykułu jest uwypuklenie znaczenia prospektywnych mierników badania zdolności rozwojowej jednostek samorządu terytorialnego. Wykorzystując przegląd literatury, metodę dedukcyjną oraz wnioskowania przez analogię, zaprezentowano koncepcję oceny wkładu urzędników w rozwój jednostki samorządu terytorialnego.
The experience of recent years indicates a profound change in the approach to the need for development in local government units. Officials are required to focus not only on financial measures, but also on involvement in pro-development activities, which in turn determine the success of these organizations. The specificity of the functioning of the budget sector forces the presentation of various measures, but the measurement process cannot be an end in itself. The literature on the subject indicates Balanced Scorecard as a tool that uses multi-faceted methods for assessing development activities. Therefore, the main goal of the article is to emphasize the importance of prospective measures of research on the development capacity of local government units. Using the literature research, the deductive method and the reasoning by analogy, the concept of assessment of the contribution of officials to the development of the local government unit was presented.

Współcześni przedsiębiorcy powinni tworzyć własne, a zarazem niepowtarzalne koncepcje działań, biorąc pod uwagę teraźniejsze i przyszłe zmiany otoczenia. Polskie małe i średnie przedsiębiorstwa w swojej codziennej działalności nadal uczą się zachowań rynkowych i strategicznych. Celem artykułu była ocena gotowości małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw usług transportowych do wdrożenia rozwiązań Strategicznej Karty Wyników. Dobra diagnoza może dostarczyć wskazówek do prawidłowego zastosowania narzędzia analizy strategicznej, co ułatwi proces monitorowania poziomu realizacji założonych celów.
Polish small and medium-sized enterprises continue to learn market and strategic behavior in their day-to-day operations. The aim of the study has been to assess the willingness of small and medium-sized transport service companies to implement Balanced Scorecard. A good diagnosis can provide guidance for the correct application of the strategic analysis tool, which will facilitate the process of monitoring the level of achievement of goals.

Opis:
The main aim of this article is to analyse the performance development of the selected Slovak company - Košice International Airport by means of modern approaches of financial performance evaluation linked to designing a strategic Balanced ScoreCard (BSC). The empirical analysis of the company’s financial performance development was performed on the basis of the selected financial ratio indicators and selected prediction models which form input data for creating a new Creditworthy Model (CWM) of performance. Finally, the authors have formulated the company’s Balanced ScoreCard containing new strategic goals interconnected with the analysis of financial performance development to streamline strategic managerial decisions on the global market.
Głównym celem tego artykułu jest analiza rozwoju wydajności wybranej słowackiej firmy - międzynarodowego lotniska w Koszycach za pomocą nowoczesnych metod oceny wyników finansowych związanych z opracowaniem strategicznej karty wyników (BSC). Empiryczna analiza rozwoju wyników finansowych firmy została przeprowadzona na podstawie wybranych wskaźników finansowych i wybranych modeli predykcyjnych, które tworzą dane wejściowe do tworzenia nowego modelu wiarygodności kredytowej (CWM). Wreszcie, autorzy sformułowali zrównoważoną kartę wyników firmy, zawierającą nowe cele strategiczne połączone z analizą wyników finansowych w celu usprawnienia strategicznych decyzji zarządczych na globalnym rynku.

Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie stanu dorobku naukowego rachunkowości polskiej w zakresie stosowania strategicznej karty wyników jako jednego ze strategicznych instrumentów rachunkowości zarządczej. W pierwszej części opracowania przedstawiono zastosowaną metodę badawczą. Druga część zawiera rezultaty badania, czyli analizę wybranych publikacji pod kątem przyjętych założeń. Ostatnią część stanowią wnioski. Zastosowaną metodą badawczą są studia literaturowe na podstawie czasopism z bazy BazEkon jak również czasopisma „Controlling i Rachunkowość Zarządcza”. Artykuł ma walory poznawcze, ponieważ zawiera syntetyczny przegląd stanu wiedzy o balanced scorecard.
