Opis:
Taking as the starting point a recently suggested reaction scheme for zymogen activation involving intra- and intermolecular routes and the enzyme-zymogen complex, we carry out a complete analysis of the relative contribution of both routes in the process. This analysis suggests the definition of new dimensionless parameters allowing the elaboration, from the values of the rate constants and initial conditions, of the time course of the contribution of the two routes. The procedure mentioned above related to a concrete reaction scheme is extrapolated to any other model of autocatalytic zymogen activation involving intra- and intermolecular routes. Finally, we discuss the contribution of both of the activating routes in pepsinogen activation into pepsin using the values of the kinetic parameters given in the literature.

So far, azide has been consistently reported to act as an inhibitor of metal enzymes, especially copper proteins. The present work shows that azide can also act as an activator of polyphenol oxidase II (PPO II) from tobacco leaves. From0 the square-wave voltammetry of native PPO II, peroxide-PPO II complex and azide-PPO II complex, the reduction of nitro blue tetrazolium by the enzymes and activation of PPO II by peroxide it follows that the binding of azide to PPO II induces the formation of CuO(2)(2-)Cu in the active site of PPO II from CuO(2)(-)Cu in native PPO II. The reason for azide acting as an activator can be attributed to azide complexing with PPO II, thus inducing the formation of CuO(2)(2-)Cu, which is the active site of the peroxide-PPO II complex in which peroxide plays the role of activator.

Opis:
The neutron emission rate is a crucial parameter for most of the radiation sources that emit neutrons. In the case of large fusion devices the determination of this parameter is necessary for a proper assessment of the power release and the prediction for the neutron budget. The 14 MeV neutron generator will be used for calibration of neutron diagnostics at JET and ITER facilities. The stability of the neutron generator working parameters like emission and angular homogeneity affects the accuracy of calibration other neutron diagnostics. The aim of our experiment was to confi rm the usefulness of yttrium activation method for monitoring of the neutron generator SODERN Model: GENIE 16. The reaction rate induced by neutrons inside the yttrium sample was indirectly measured by activation of the yttrium sample, and then by means of the γ-spectrometry method. The pre-calibrated HPGe detector was used to determine the yttrium radioactivity. The emissivity of neutron generator calculated on the basis of the measured radioactivity was compared with the value resulting from its electrical settings, and both of these values were found to be consistent. This allowed for a positive verifi cation of the reaction cross section that was used to determine the reaction rate (6.45 × 10–21 reactions per second) and the neutron emission rate (1.04 × 108 n·s–1). Our study confi rms usefulness of the yttrium activation method for monitoring of the neutron generator.

The article presents the results of research on the implementation of innovative social investments at the local level based on the case study Assistance from A to Z – Professional activation of homeless people from Wroclaw Circle St. Brother Albert Aid Society. The aim is to analyse the possibilities of applying innovative and investment solutions in the area of social and professional activation of people threatened by social exclusion, especially the homeless. The author uses the case study method and the method of desk research, in which the analysis of the strategy documents, source materials and acts was carried out. The analysis of the Assistance from A to Z project showed that applied in the project forms of support brought satisfactory results in the field of social and professional activation of the homeless, brought social and economic benefits and thus the project can be seen as a social investment.

Podstawowym celem artykułu jest określenie użyteczności koncepcji rządzenia (governance) dla analizy programów aktywnej polityki społecznej (APS). W opracowaniu wykazano, że governance jest szeroka perspektywą badawczą, która pozwala na wielowymiarowe badania empiryczne. Rządzenie jest właściwą kategoria do analizowania funkcjonowania podmiotów polityki społecznej odpowiedzialnych za programy aktywnej polityki społecznej. Podstawową zaletą governance jest aktualność tego podejścia, którą dobrze oddaje hasło „rządzenia bez rządu” w ramach powiązań sieciowych i z wykorzystaniem szerokie spektrum instrumentów współczesnego zarządzania.
The main objective of this paper is to discuss a general concept of governance for the analysis of active social policy programs (APS). The study shows that governance is a broad prospect research, which allows for multi-dimensional empirical studies. Governance is the right category to analyze the functioning of bodies responsible for social policy programs of an active social policy. The main advantage of governance is the relevance of this approach, which is well illustrated by the slogan “governance without government” in the network connections and using a wide range of contemporary management instruments.

Growth kinetics of boride layers in AISI H13 steel was investigated using the pack boriding method at temperatures of 1073, 1173 and 1273 K (800°C, 900°C and 1000°C) for periods of 2, 4 and 6 h with nano-sized boron (NB) and micron-sized Ekabor II powders as boriding agents. The total thickness of the boride layer (including both FeB and Fe2B) after boriding at 1273 K (1000°C) for 6 h was 103.8 μm and 96.5 μm for the NB and Ekabor II specimens, respectively. X-ray diffraction analysis of the boride layers on the surfaces borided with NB and Ekabor II revealed the presence of FeB and Fe2B phases with sawtooth morphology. The FeB/Fe2B volume ratio was higher in the specimens borided with NB. The thickness of the boride layer (FeB + Fe2B) increased with the increasing boriding temperature and time. The FeB layer in the NB specimen displayed a (002) preferred orientation.

Cu2+ and Pb2+ are widely used as activators for the flotation of stibnite. In this work, by the treatment of Cu2+ or Pb2+, the activation product and the thickness of activation layer on the stibnite surface were both investigated. Based on the flotation results, zeta potential analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) study, it was found that Cu2+ was reduced to Cu+ at the stibnite surface and a layer of Cu2S was formed at the surface. While, a PbS layer presenting at the stibnite surface is responsible for the activation flotation of stibnite with Pb2+. Time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) analysis further implies that, when stibnite was activated with 5×10-5 mol/dm3 of CuSO4 or Pb(NO3)2, the thickness of Cu2S layer on the Cu-activated surface was close to 2.7 nm, while the thickness of PbS layer was about 1.8 nm on the Pb-activated surface.

Activation and grassroots initiative of inhabitants are components of social change affecting local development. It is here that ideas materialise through the actions of individuals. It is assumed that development always exists in an active relation to social and cultural change, involving human, financial, environmental and infrastructural resources. It includes primarily community interactions of individuals in the process of activation for the local environment. The study assumed the hypothesis that activation and grass-roots initiative have a significant impact on local development of auxiliary units. The management of local affairs is based on the assumption that inhabitants of a certain area constitute a community aware of their needs and objectives, able to manage their own affairs independently. Activation and development of the community is defined as a collective undertaking, which requires, among other things, emotional commitment and effort of residents. It is a process that follows the steps of planned operation which involves preparing the action programme, establishing the aim, and setting ways to its implementation. At the same time there must be determined a method which will allow to achieve the intended effectiveness of the undertaking. Comprehensive understanding of activation and grassroots initiative indicates the role of development planning, strategy, and the importance of citizen participation in building a better future for their own socio-cultural environment. Activation within the meaning of citizen activation is associated with the search for independence and identification with the community and place as a “little homeland.”

The application of a Fast Neutron Activation Analysis (FNAA) technique on samples of pure gold, irradiated by a plasma focus of 7 kJ, has been investigated. The reaction was the inelastic scattering of neutrons, 197Au(n,n'gamma)197Aum. To avoid problems connected with peculiar features of the neutron emission from this kind of source, a preliminary standardisation of the method has been carried out. The results obtained have a practical interest in view of possible applications to the technology of extraction of minerals.

Opis:
A way of use of shape memory alloy (SMA) fibers for dynamics response modification of laminated beams is presented in the paper. The considered concept of adaptive control is based on the ability to change the Young modulus during a temperature activated, reversible, martenstic transition that is specific to SMAs. It is assumed that the laminate is midplane symmetric and the corresponding layers of the same fiber orientation are activated simultaneously, and the SMA fibers can freely elongate in the matrix. A cantilever laminated beam with mass distributed on its free edge is subject to numerical analysis. Due to the quasi-steady one-dimensional model of heat conduction, martensite fraction and natural frequency time relations for the phase transition of SMA have been obtained. The influence of temperature on natural frequencies of the system has been analysed for some different locations of activated plies and directions of SMA fibers. The frequency response functions varying with the material phase transformation for a harmonic load acting on the free end of the beam have also been presented.
W pracy przedstawiono zastosowanie włókien ze stopu z pamięcią kształtu (SMA) do modyfikacji właściwości dynamicznych belek laminowanych. Koncepcję adaptacyjnego sterowania oparto na unikalnej zdolności stopów SMA do wyraźnej zmiany wartości modułu Younga w procesie odwracalnej przemiany martenzytycznej wywołanej temperaturą. Założono, że warstwy laminatu są ułożone i uaktywniane symetrycznie względem powierzchni środkowej, a włókna SMA mogą swobodnie odkształcać się w osnowie. Symulacja numeryczna dotyczy belki laminowanej utwierdzonej wzdłuż jednego brzegu, z masą równomiernie rozłożoną na swobodnym, przeciwległym brzegu. Zgodnie z przyjętym stacjonarnym, jednowymiarowym modelem przewodnictwa cieplnego, wyznaczono przebiegi czasowe temperatury i zawartości martenzytu we włóknach SMA, oraz przebiegi podstawowej częstości własnej w zakresie przemiany fazowej. Zbadano wpływ temperatury na częstości własne zmieniając położenie warstw uaktwnianych a także kierunek ułożenia włókien SMA. Zakładając wymuszenie harmoniczne działające na swobodny brzeg belki, wyznaczono charakterystyki amplitudowo-częstotliwościowe odpowiadające pełnemu zakresowi transformacji fazy materiałowej.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to present seniors’ opinions about their activity and ways to meet seniors’ needs. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The research problem was centered around: participation in senior social life; forms of activity undertaken by seniors; ways to spend free time by seniors and the needs of the elderly. Survey was used as the research method. The studies were diagnostic and exploratory. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The progressive demographic change in Polish society makes active and active aging more active and the elderly’s needs for care and support become a major stimulus for satisfaction and quality of life. The article reviews the opinions of seniors about their activity and ways of meeting their needs. RESEARCH RESULTS: This study has shown that participation in social life, forms of activity and the needs of the elderly in various ways are met and implemented. Seniors indicating inactivity (in this study are mainly social welfare beneficiaries) generally declare that they feel socially excluded. These people choose a type of home and solitary activity, and spending their free time is mainly based on watching TV and listening to the radio. On the other hand, active seniors (in this study are mainly participants in senior clubs) are satisfied with their role in society. Free time is spent on meetings with people, e.g. in the club and prefer to take various activities. Research also shows that various forms of senior activism, including senior ones, have an impact on the quality of life of the elderly, significantly improving their activity, while addressing higher needs and counteracting social exclusion. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMENDATIONS: There is a need for more intensified action by aid institutions, directed towards seniors who are inactive, excluded – social welfare clients, so that they too can live in the “autumn of life.” Training should also be provided to social workers who equip tchem with the necessary knowledge and skills to work effectively with the seniors and to effectively and effectively reintegrate and reintegrate them.

Chrysocolla is a kind of copper oxide mineral which was difficult to float. In this study, Diethyldithiocarbamate (DDTC) was employed to modify the surface of chrysocolla to improve its xanthate adsorption and floatability. Flotation experiments showed that the DDTC exhibited ability to activate rather than acting as a collector for chrysocolla flotation. After DDTC activation, chrysocolla can be effectively recovered by xanthate. The activation mechanism of DDTC was investigated via Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). During the activation, DDTC bonded to the surface copper atoms of chrysocolla, and more Cu(II) species on the mineral surface were reduced to Cu(I) species, which caused the formation of larger amounts of Cu active sites as –N–C(=S)S–Cu(II)– and Cu(I) species. The results of the adsorption tests and zeta potential measurements revealed that the DDTC-modified mineral surface reinforced adsorption of xanthate ions, thereby improving the chrysocolla floatability. Therefore, the Cu ions double interaction of DDTC and xanthate on the chrysocolla surfaces enhanced the strength and stability of the hydrophobic layer, resulting in an enhanced hydrophobization of the chrysocolla for its flotation.

The pearlite spheroidization in Fe-0.76%C high purity steel was investigated. The samples of a coarse pearlite microstructure were isothermal annealed at 700, 680, 660, 640 and 620°C for various times, up to 800 hours. For quantitative description of the spheroidization process stereological parameter, SV (ferrite/cementite interface surface density) was used. The activation energy 104.8±11.4 kJ/mol was found for the spheroidization process. This value shows good agreement with the activation energy for iron and carbon diffusion along a ferrite/cementite interface, so the coupled interface diffusion is the rule-controlling process.
