Opis:
TiO₂ with high photoactive wide band gap energy semiconductor has been studied intensively for its attractive applications as photo catalyst and solar cell. TiO₂ has three kinds of different crystal structures; anatase, brookite and rutile. TiO₂-nanoparticles could become valuable light emitting materials when they are doped with highly luminescent rare earth ions. In this study, Dy-Eu-Ag co-doped TiO₂ nano particles were prepared by electrospinning method. The crystal structures of nanofibers were determined X-Ray Diffraction device (XRD), morphology of the samples were analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), and the optical properties of the samples were determined by ultraviolet/visible spectrometer (UV/VIS) measurements. Electrical and electronic properties of the sampled were determined using the data obtained from four point prob technique (FPPT).

Opis:
Ultrafine-grained structure with grain size of about 100 nm was obtained in nickel by deformation under a pressure of 7 GPa in Bridgman anvils. The structure evolution in ultrafine-grained nickel was studied by residual resistance, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and microhardness measurements. It was established that the evolution of the structure upon heating of ultrafine-grained nickel may be divided into three stages. Stage A corresponds to temperatures below 453 K and is characterised by an insignificant decrease in the resistivity and microhardness. At this stage, a decrease in the internal stresses is not accompanied by grain growth. Stage B, corresponding to the temperatures range of 453-513 K, is characterised by an abrupt decrease in the resistivity and hardness, disappearance of the internal stresses, and by an intense grain growth. Stage C (above 523 K) corresponds to an insignificant increase in the resistivity and further decrease in the hardness.

In this study, microstructure and electrical properties of Ag-TiO₂ powders, which were prepared by a simple sol-gel method, are investigated. The sol was prepared from titanium iso-propoxide, Ti(OC₃H₇)₄ in iso-propanol (CH₃CHOHCH₃), used as solvent. AgNO₃ was used as the precursor for Ag. For the structural studies, the corresponding gels were allowed to dry naturally for about seven days, dried in an oven at 180°C for 30 min and then calcined at different temperatures (900, 1000 and 1100°C). The Ag-TiO₂ nanoparticles were characterized using differential thermal analysis/thermal gravimetry, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis and X-ray diffraction. The results X-ray diffraction indicate that pure Ag and TiO₂ powders are in rutile phase. However, calcination temperature had not significantly affected the crystalline structure of TiO₂. Scanning electron microscopy images of powders show an aggregation of small spherical particles of dispersed sizes. Annealing of the Ag-TiO₂ sample at high temperature produced more spherical particles, which aggregated to form bigger particles with porous structures. The electrical properties of the samples were measured using HMS-3000 Hall measurement system. The samples were found to be of n-type. The conductivity of TiO₂ samples have been explicitly increasing with calcination temperature and with Ag doping.

Epitaxial, textured, and polycrystalline La$\text{}_{0.7}$Ca$\text{}_{0.3}$Mn O$\text{}_{3}$ films, having about 150 nm thickness, were prepared by pulsed laser deposition techniques onto (110) NdGaO$\text{}_{3}$, MgO and lucalox substrates and investigated using 10 ns duration, 0.5 ns rise time electrical pulses having amplitude up to 500 V. Electroresistance of the films [R(E)-R(0)]/R(0) was investigated up to 80 kV/cm electric field strengths in temperatures ranging from 300 K to 4.2 K. Strong (up to 93%) negative electroresistance was obtained in polycrystalline La$\text{}_{0.7}$Ca$\text{}_{0.3}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ films prepared on MgO and lucalox substrates. The epitaxial films grown on NdGaO$\text{}_{3}$ substrate demonstrated only a small resistance change due to Joule heating induced by a current pulse. It was concluded that electroresistance manifests itself in strongly inhomogeneous manganites films exhibiting a large number of structural imperfections producing ferromagnetic tunnel junction nets.

Current and electrical field-induced electroresistive effects were investigated for La$\text{}_{0.67}$Ca$\text{}_{0.33}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$/MgO thin films demonstrating nanosized electrical inhomogeneities. Two different models based on enhanced conductivity of intergrain boundaries by injecting spin-polarized carriers from ferromagnetic grains and electrical field-enhanced hopping of carriers in high resistance intergrain media were carried out to explain nonlinear electrical properties of the films.

Opis:
For the first time current quantization is reported for antimony sulfoiodide (SbSI) nanowires. It has been registered in current responses on electric field switching as well as on illumination on and off. Current steps determined in all experiments have been equal to each other within the experimental error. It has been explained by the quantized change of free carrier concentration in nanowire. Lateral dimensions of SbSI nanowires estimated from quantum steps are comparable with geometrical data reported for the same technology of material preparation.

We report an electron paramagnetic resonance investigation of the grain size effects on the polaron transport in the paramagnetic regime of nanosized La$\text{}_{2}\text{}_{/}\text{}_{3}$ Ca$\text{}_{1}\text{}_{/}\text{}_{3}$ MnO$\text{}_{3}$ manganites. The temperature dependences of the EPR integral intensity were analyzed in terms of spin-spin exchange interaction and small polaron hopping scenarios. The polaron activation energy decreases with the reduction of the grain size. A discussion is given concerning the factors which could explain the observed change.

A few micrometers thick nanocrystalline α-Fe layer with the mean crystallite size $d_{XRD}$=14 nm was deposited in low-pressure microwave plasma, using $Fe(CO)_{5}$ vapour. Its nanocrystalline character was proved on its surface under SEM (surface was formed of deposited nanoparticles) and in its volume using TEM (deposited nanoparticles were stacked up, creating columns). No significant iron oxide phases were observed in the transmission $\text{}^{57}Fe$ Mössbauer spectrum measured at 5 K nor in the surface-sensitive $\text{}^{57}Fe$ conversion electron Mössbauer spectrum measured at 293 K.

This paper presents an analytical model calculating the threshold voltage in nanocrystalline silicon (nc-Si) thin film transistors by considering a granular morphology of silicon nanocrystallites forming the channel and using the two-dimensional the Poisson equation. The numerical calculations demonstrate that, according to the quantum size effects on both dielectric constant and band gap, the threshold voltage values are strongly related to the silicon crystallites structure. To justify the validity of our model suitable for implementation in circuit simulators such as SPICE, the simulation results obtained are compared with the available research data and they shows a satisfactory match, thus, demonstrating the validity of our model.

Samples consisting of a few layers of graphene obtained by thermal decomposition of SiC were studied by means of transport experiments at 4 K and in a magnetic field up to 7 T. Transport data show that the samples have a two-dimensional character. Magnetoresistance has an approximately linear character at high magnetic fields, which has been previously observed in graphite samples, and a negative magnetoresistance, at low magnetic fields. The transverse resistivity $ρ_{xy}$ is nonlinear as a function of B, which can be described using a many-carrier model.

Ceramic-metal composites are usually prepared by sintering ceramic with metal or metal oxide powders. An alternative technique is sintering ceramic powders coated by metal film. In the present study, the Ni coated Al$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$ powder was obtained by chemical reduction reaction. We used the phosphate bath for deposition of nickel-phosphorus on the surface of Al$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$ powder. The thickness and chemistry of Ni-P coating depend on the time and the parameters of the reaction process. Particles of Ni-P precipitate from a solution in two different forms: (a) spherical nanoparticles of Ni-P (50 nm) which grow on the surface of Al$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$ powder and can form tight, one diameter thick film; (b) large agglomerates of loosely connected spherical nanoparticles with a 50÷150 nm diameter. The method proposed in this study allows obtaining Al$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$ powder covered with Ni-P nanoparticles in the forms of thin film or single nanoparticles, mixed with loose Ni-P agglomerates.

The effect of hydrostatic pressure applied at high temperature on photoluminescence of Si-implanted SiO$\text{}_{2}$ films was studied. A "blue"-shift of PL spectrum from the SiO$\text{}_{2}$ films implanted with Si$\text{}^{+}$ ions to total dose of 1.2×10$\text{}^{17}$ cm$\text{}^{-2}$ with an increase in hydrostatic pressure was observed. For the films implanted with Si$\text{}^{+}$ ions to a total dose of 4.8×10$\text{}^{16}$ cm$\text{}^{-2}$ high temperature annealing under high hydrostatic pressure (12 kbar) causes a "red"-shift of photoluminescence spectrum. The "red" photoluminescence bands are attributed to Si nanocrystals while the "blue" ones are related to Si nanocrystals of reduced size or chains of silicon atoms or ≡Si-Si≡ defects. A decrease in size of Si nanocluster size occurs in result of the pressure-induced decrease in the diffusion of silicon atoms.

Opis:
An electrochemically-gated junction field-effect transistor with metallic conducting indium tin oxide nanoparticle array as active layer is reported. Fabrication of a field-effect device with a degenerative semiconductor like indium tin oxide (carrier concentration $10^{20}-10^{21} cm^{-3}$) is possible by exploiting the high surface-to-volume ratio of nanoparticles and high surface charge density achievable by electrochemical gating. The on/off ratio obtained is 325 although the applied potential was restricted to the capacitive double layer region (to ensure high repeatability) without allowing redox reactions to take place at the interface.

In this paper we illustrate the change of optical properties of mechanically activated wurtzite ZnO powder and laser synthesized anatase TiO$\text{}_{2}$ nanopowder due to the nonstoichiometry caused by mechanical activation and/or laser irradiation in vacuum. Both of the investigated materials are widely used in optoelectronics and the examination of their optical properties under different preparation and environmental conditions is of great practical interest.

Progress in designing of new low-cost magnetoelectronic planar devices requires new artificial films combining tuneable magnetic and electric properties. In this context, metal-insulator films are prospective for synthesis of materials with tailored physical properties that could be controlled with films composition and synthesis regimes. Present overview covers the summary of recent experimental results on complimentary and systematic study of macroscopic and local magnetic properties of films using vibrating sample magnetometer and Mössbauer spectroscopy with respect to phase composition and structural analysis at nanoscale by X-ray absorption spectroscopy in the extended X-ray absorption fine structure range, transmission electron microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. Specific relationship between films structure and resulting magnetic properties (SP relaxation, core-shell exchange interaction, perpendicular magnetic anisotropy) is considered. Effects of magnetic and electric percolation in films are discussed in correlation with synthesis regimes (atmosphere of deposition, temperature of the substrate) and films composition. Physical mechanisms and models describing magnetic and electric properties of composite films are analyzed. Finally, technological approaches are proposed for tuning films properties towards their desired combination with respect to application in designing of sensors and planar (non-coil) inductive elements.
