Opis:
In yttrium-iron garnets an electrical charge is carried by quasiparticles based on compensating holes which move either at oxygen or iron ions of the tetragonal sublattice. The quasiparticles can also get localized because of their coupling to optical phonons on the iron sites. A multi-band model of holes coupled to phonons is applied to find additional energy levels in the gap between the lower of the narrow 3d bands and the wide 2p band, whose occurrence plays a crucial role in a conductivity mechanism. The density of states is considerably modified by the interaction between the holes and local distortion of the lattice.

Opis:
The crystal structure and magnetic properties of polycrystalline alloys $Fe_{62.5}Ni_{37.5},$ $Fe_{60}Ni_{40},$ $Fe_{50}Ni_{50}$ obtained by arc-melting and $Fe_{40}Ni_{40}B_{20}$ alloy obtained by melt spinning technique were investigated by X-ray, magnetostatic and Mössbauer effect methods. The X-ray measurements show that $Fe_{40}Ni_{40}B_{20}$ alloy has a face-centered structure (fcc) which means that boron did not cause an amorphous rendering. The lattice constants for this alloy (a = 3.53 Å) is smaller than for FeNi alloys (a > 3.57 Å) which suggests that boron atoms were built-in in the crystal lattice. The Curie temperature of this alloy is more than 150 K higher in comparison with the of FeNi alloys, but the magnetic moment connected with this alloy is more than 0.17 $μ_{B}$/atom smaller than the magnetic moments of FeNi alloys. The shape of hyperfine field distribution for $Fe_{40}Ni_{40}B_{20}$ is similar to the shape of hyperfine field distribution for the investigated fcc $Fe_{62.5}Ni_{37.5}$ alloy, but both are different from another investigated hyperfine field distribution of FeNi alloys.

We present a comparative study of $Na_{0.7}CoO_2$ samples obtained from three different sources and prepared by different methods. The specific heat and magnetic susceptibility measurements in the temperature range 2-300 K show substantial influence on the observed anomalies, which underlines that the system is extremely sensitive to preparation protocols.

Opis:
The work is focused on the measurements of electrical resistivity of CrN thin films deposited on glass substrates by DC-magnetron sputtering in Ar+$N_{2}$ atmosphere. The studied samples reveal semiconducting behaviour of electrical resistivity in the whole range of tested preparation parameters (such as pressure and composition of Ar-$N_{2}$ mixture), whereas the electrical transport regime is strongly influenced by parameters of preparation. Numerical analysis of the experimental data showed that electrical transport can be adequately described in terms of variable-range hopping conduction in selected temperature intervals. Moreover, S-shaped anomaly in ρ(T) dependence, being expected to be a consequence of phase transition to a low-temperature antiferromagnetic orthorhombic phase, has been observed for sample with the highest concentration of $N_{2}$ in the temperature interval of 220-250 K. The obtained results indicate that technology processes typically used for preparation of CrN coatings represent a promising potential to develop also high sensitivity cryogenic sensors for high magnetic fields applications.

Opis:
The UV-vis-NIR and electrical properties of $Yb_{8-x}Y_xV_2O_{17}$ for x=0, 2, and 8 were investigated. The band energy gap of 2.6 eV determined for $Yb_6Y_2V_2O_{17}$ (x=2) and comparable for the remaining compounds with x=0 and 8 is characteristic for insulators. Low electrical conductivity with a characteristic minimum shifting to higher temperatures from 322, via 360 to 370 K in the sequence x=0, 2 and 8, which decreases with increasing content of ytterbium was observed. Temperature dependence of thermoelectric power showed n-p transition at 410 and 467 K for x=0 and 2, respectively, and n-type conductivity for x=8, indicating mainly n-type electrical conductivity. A breakdown voltage of 26 V/mm is mainly observed for the I-V characteristics at 400 K and showing a varistor-like behavior.

$Fe_{1-x}Cr_xVSbO_6$ solid solution is semiconductor with the activation energy decreasing both in the intrinsic and extrinsic conductivity temperature regions as the Cr-content increases. The n-type conduction is observed for Fe-richer samples while a change of the Seebeck coefficient (from n to p) - for Cr-richer ones. Magnetic isotherms for all samples of solid solution under study are characteristic of the universal Brillouin function, indicating paramagnetic response. These effects are discussed within the framework of the appearance of the mixed valence of both Fe and Cr ions.

$Fe_{1-x}Cr_xSnSbO_6$ solid solution shows semiconducting behaviour with the activation energy decreasing from $E_{A}$=0.64 eV for x=0.0 to $E_{A}$=0.32 eV for x=1.0 in the intrinsic conductivity temperature region as well as the n-type conduction at room temperature. The I-V characteristics and the conductance G at 300 and 400 K showed symmetrical and nonlinear behavior in the voltage range (-100, 100 V) suggesting the electron emission over the potential barrier especially for the boundary compounds FeSnSbO₆ and CrSnSbO₆. These effects are discussed in the context of the energy gap $E_{g}$>1.6 eV many times greater than the thermal energy kT.

Opis:
The electrical conductivity σ (T) and thermoelectric power S(T) measurements of Sr₂InV₃O₁₁ showed the insulating state and the change of sign of thermopower from p to n at $T_{n-p}$=400 K. The I-V characteristics provided the evidence of symmetrical and non-linear behaviour typical of strong emission of charge carriers induced by temperature and voltage. Relative dielectric permittivity $ε_{r}$ as well as loss tangent (tan δ) strongly depend both on the temperature in the range of 295-400 K and the frequency in the range of 5×10² to 1×10⁶ Hz, showing the broad maximum at 320 K. These effects are considered as a relaxation process like in the Maxwell-Wagner or Jonscher model as well as the conduction of electric current, as determined by the Joule-Lenz law.

Magnetization, anomalous Hall effect, thermoelectric power, magnetoresistance, and resistivity of $Sn_{1-x-y-z}Ge_{x}Mn_{y}Gd_{z}Te$ (x = 0.039÷0.597, y = 0.077÷0.125, z = 0.0014÷0.028) mixed crystals were studied over the temperature range 4.2-300 K. The ferromagnetic order with Curie temperature 18-24 K was revealed.

Photovoltaic effect of the ZnTe-Cd$\text{}_{1-x}$Mn$\text{}_{x}$Te$\text{}_{1-y}$Se$\text{}_{y}$ heterojunctions, prepared by vapor-transport epitaxy of ZnTe on Cd$\text{}_{1-x}$Mn$\text{}_{x}$Te$\text{}_{1-y}$Se$\text{}_{y}$ substrate was studied. The photovoltaic measurements were carried out over the temperature range from 12 K to 300 K and in the magnetic field up to 6 T. In the magnetic field, maximum of the sensitivity corresponding to the energy of the forbidden gap of Cd$\text{}_{1-x}$Mn$\text{}_{x}$Te$\text{}_{1-y}$Se$\text{}_{y}$ substrate splits into two components for σ$\text{}^{+}$ and σ¯ circular polarizations of incident light. This phenomenon was ascribed to the exchange interaction of the magnetic moments of Mn$\text{}^{++}$ ions with band electrons. From the value of the splitting energy the exchange integral N$\text{}_{0}$(α-β) was determined to be 1.15 ± 0.2 eV.
