We report results for Si layers embedded in GaAs, extending from the delta-doped (δ-doped) range up to 6 monolayers derived by means of variable temperature resistivity and Hall effect measurements, secondary ion mass spectrometry and high resolution X-ray diffractometry techniques. The conductivity transition from free carrier transport in ordered δ-layers (<1 ML) to strongly-localized two-dimensional variable range hopping transport under potential fluctuation disordered conditions (>4 ML) is clearly observed. This observation is in good agreement with the secondary ion mass spectrometry and high resolution X-ray diffractometry data. Results from the intermediate case with 2-3 MLs are also discussed.

Opis:
The microwave conductivity of the copper salt of DCNQI (N,N'-Dicyanoquinodiimine) with two methyl side groups (undeuterated, h$\text{}_{8}$), the fully deuterated salt (d$\text{}_{8}$), the salt with only the methyl groups deuterated and of alloys of undeuterated and deuterated salts was measured. The microwave conductivity (10.2 GHz) qualitatively follows the dc conductivity. The difference is in the window of diminished conductivity between phase transition and reentry, where the microwave conductivity is higher than the dc conductivity. This indicates the existence of a crystal fraction with higher (metallic) conductivity (portion: ≈ 1‰) not seen by dc methods.

Opis:
Conducting reticulate doped polymeric films containing BEDT-TTF iodide crystalline networks have been annealed in order to transform the crystallites into crystal phases with metallic conductivity. The microwave conductivity of these films was measured before and after annealing. The temperature dependence of the conductivity changes dramatically with optimal annealing temperatures and times. This change in the behavior corresponds to the transformation of the α-phase into the superconducting α$\text{}_{t}$-phase observed in (BEDT-TTF)$\text{}_{2}$I$\text{}_{3}$ single crystals.

The paper presents experimental investigation on electrical conductivity of thulium oxides-ethylene glycol (Tm₂O₃-EG) nanofluids based on nanoparticles with three different sizes, and prepared in different conditions. Nanofluids were prepared with two-step method with use of the nanoparticles obtained by precipitation method. Measurements were conducted at constant temperature 293.15 K for various mass concentrations from 0% to 20% with 5% step. The electrical conductivity was measured using conductivity meter MultiLine 3410 (WTW GmBH, Weilheim, Germany) and temperature was stabilized in a water bath MLL 547 (AJL Electronic, Cracow, Poland). The results indicate that increase in mass concentration of nanoparticles in base fluid causes increase in electrical conductivity of Tm₂O₃-EG nanofluids. The enhancement in electrical conductivity of nanosuspensions of thulium oxide is dependent on particle size.

Paper presents results of experimental studies of electrical conductivity of yttrium aluminum garnet-ethylene glycol (Y₃Al₅O₁₂-EG, YAG-EG) nanofluids, which were prepared by dispersing commercially available nanoparticles manufactured by Baikowski (Annecy, France, ID LOT: 18513) in ethylene glycol. The electrical conductivity was measured using conductivity meter MultiLine 3410 (WTW GmBH, Weilheim, Germany). In turn the temperature was stabilized in a water bath MLL 547 (AJL Electronic, Cracow, Poland). The electrical conductivity of YAG-EG nanofluids with various mass concentrations form 5% to 20% was investigated at different ambient temperatures. The experimental data indicate that changing volume fraction of YAG nanoparticles in ethylene glycol cause change of electrical conductivity of nanofluid. It was also presented that electrical conductivity depends on temperature of materials.

Opis:
Electrical conductivity of nanofluids is one of the physical properties which are intensively investigated by researchers. This paper brings contributions in this research area. Electrical conductivity of nanofluids containing various mass concentration of silicon dioxide (SiO₂) nanoparticles suspended in ethylene glycol (EG) were investigated at various ambient temperatures. Temperature was changed from 20°C to 60°C with 10°C step. Measurements were performed with digital conductivity meter (MultiLine 3410, WTW GmBH, Weilheim, Germany) and it was observed that increase in mass concentration of SiO₂ nanoparticles cause increase in electrical conductivity. The same dependence was observed between temperature and electrical conductivity.

Opis:
Nanofluids are suspensions of nanometrical size particles in a liquid base, which is usually water, oil or ethylene glycol. The potential practical use of nanofluids caused in recent years a considerable intensification of research into their properties. The most widely studied of physical properties include the fluid rheology, thermal conductivity and electrical parameters. The paper presents electrical properties of aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃) nanofluids based on ethylene glycol (EG). Nanoparticles used to produce nanosuspensions employed in measurements have size between 100-300 nm. Electrical properties was investigated in a wide range of temperatures (-10°C-55°C) and frequencies (0.02-200 kHz) using a measuring LCR bridge connected to a temperature stabilization system based on liquid nitrogen and Peltier element.

The persistent conductivity effects in TlBr were evidenced at the temperatures below about 200 K after the intrinsic light excitation. They were associated with the filling of the trapping states having thermal activation energy of about 0.08-0.12 eV and accompanied by the appearance of the pronounced maximum of the thermally stimulated currents. In this state the enhanced photoconductivity was observed that could be thermally quenched above about 180 K. The quenching is initiated by the emptying of the trapping states having activation energy of 0.63-0.65 eV.

Crystal structure and transport properties of the mixed praseodymium cobaltites-ferrites PrCo_{1-x}Fe_xO₃ have been studied in the temperature range of 298-1173 K by a combination of in situ X-ray synchrotron powder diffraction and temperature dependent impedance spectroscopy measurements. In situ high temperature powder diffraction examination of PrCo_{1-x}Fe_xO₃ series revealed considerable anomalies in the lattice expansion which are especially pronounced for the cobalt-rich specimens. These anomalies, which are reflected in a sigmoidal dependence of the unit cell dimensions and in the considerable increase of the thermal expansion coefficients, are obviously associated with transitions of Co^{3+} ions from low spin to the higher spin states and the coupled metal-insulator transitions, occurring in in rare earth cobaltites at the elevated temperatures. Indeed, the temperature-dependent impedance measurements clearly prove the change of conductivity type from dielectric to the metallic behaviour in the mixed cobaltite-ferrites PrCo_{1-x}Fe_xO₃ at the elevated temperatures.

Dielectric-spectroscopic and ac conductivity studies on 0.01 and 1.0 molar percentage manganese doped layered $Na_{1.86}Li_{0.10}K_{0.04}Ti_3O_7$ ceramics have been reported. The dependence of loss tangent (tan δ) and relative permittivity ($ε_{r}$) on temperature in the range 350-775 K and on frequency in the range 10 kHz-1 MHz have been undertaken. The losses are the characteristics of dipole mechanism, electrical conduction and space charge polarization. The obtained conductivity plots between log($σ_{ac}T$) versus 1000/T have been divided into four regions namely region I, II, III, and IV. The mechanism of conduction in region I is acknowledged to electronic hopping conduction. The less frequency and more temperature dependent region II is ascribed as a mixed mechanism "associated interlayer ionic conduction, electron hopping, and alkali ion hopping conduction". The unassociated interlayer ionic conduction along with alkali ion hopping conduction mechanisms are contributing to the transport process in the mid temperature region III. The mechanism of conduction in the highest temperature region IV may be recognized as the modified interlayer ionic conduction. The conductivity versus frequency curves lead to conclude that the electronic hopping conduction diminishes with the rise of temperature.

The aim of this work was the evaluation of ion-beam induced luminescence for the characterization of luminescent oxide materials containing rare earth elements. The yttrium aluminium garnet epilayers doped with Nd, Pr, Ho, and Tm atoms were used. The ion-beam induced luminescence spectra were excited using 100 keV $H_2^{+}$ ion beam and were recorded in the wavelengths ranging from 300 nm up to 1000 nm. The separate parts of the surface of the same samples were used for ion-beam induced luminescence and cathodoluminescence experiments. Cathodoluminescence spectra have been recorded in the range from 370 nm up to 850 nm at 20 keV e-beam in scanning electron microscope equipped with a grating spectrometer coupled with a photomultiplier. The observed narrow ion-beam induced luminescence lines can be ascribed to the well known radiative transitions in the rare-earth ions in the YAG crystals. The cathodoluminescence spectra reveal essentially the same emission lines as ion-beam induced luminescence. The decrease of the ion-beam induced luminescence lines intensity has been observed under the increasing ion fluences. The ion-beam induced luminescence may be used for characterization of transparent luminescent materials as an alternative method for cathodoluminescence and can be especially useful for observation of ion-beam damage formation in crystals.
