Opis:
Within the context of high filial norms and a limited formal care system for the elderly in Lithuania the paper examines the effects of adult children migration on intergenerational solidarity from elderly parents left behind perspective. More specifically, we analyze if changed geographic proximity as a result of adult children migration has crucial effects on the associational, affectual and functional dimensions of solidarity or it is (also) being predicted by other individual and familial factors. The analysis is based on a quantitative survey of elderly parents (N=305) with at least one migrant child. The results suggest that even if adult children migration has some negative impact for associational solidarity (and to a certain extent, for affectual one), in a way it is being compensated with positive impact on functional solidarity in terms of financial support. While greater geographic proximity as a result of adult children migration is the crucial factor of associational solidarity and determines some forms of functional solidarity, the affectual dimension of solidarity is being shaped by other familial and individual predictors.

Opis:
The experience the „Polish August 1980" was met with an interesting reflection and civic engagement on the part of Józef Tischner. This Cracovian philosopher and Catholic Priest is the author of the book „The Ethics of Solidarity". He introduced the concept of solidarity as a moral bond that occurs between people. Its implementation in times of communist oppression was associated with the concept of „bad policy." Tischner believed that in times of restored democracy (good politics) solidarity ties would be easier in practice, which turned out to be more complex. In the later period of reflection Tischner did not seem to appreciate the socio-political aspects of the ethos of solidarity, which would allow for the active participation of State.

Opis:
The paper from 1981 on the social functions of “Solidarity” is re-published and commented from the 2006 perspective. In the original paper five pairs of the opposed functions were discussed: 1) activation vs. totalisation; 2) unification vs. polarization; 3) civilization of the opponent vs. demystification of the opponent; 4) non-egalitarian egalitarianisation; and 5) institutionalization of the change. In 2006 the author observes the continuing social function of the “Solidarity,” again the conflicting way, as the positive myth that more and more serves as normative reference in current political debates, and as the real political actor that compromised itself through the active participation in politics. The significance of the old functions is discussed in reference to the complexity of non-egalitarian egalitarianism that seems to undermine the whole transformation since 1989 and went to the fore today. The value of the “dialectical functionalism” is thus reasserted.

Celem artykułu była prezentacja zjawiska solidarności kobiet ujętych w kontekst Strajku Kobiet. Solidarność kobieca przedstawiona została w odniesieniu do dwóch kategorii kobiet.
The article aimed to present the phenomenon of solidarity of women included in the context of the 2020–2021 women’s strike protests in Poland (called the Women Strike). Women’s solidarity was presented pertaining to two categories of women. The first, represented by women in the ontogenetic phase, in which procreation is possible. The second concerned those women who could no longer give birth to a child. By analyzing the collected empirical data, the author wanted to describe the character of women’s solidarity, especially the one that connects generations. The phenomenon of women’s solidarity has been presented from two perspectives. It manifested in the everyday life of families. It was also seen under the exceptional social situation, which was the Women Strike.

John Paul II in his writings repeatedly pointed to the problems that affect both individual man and entire nations. The twentieth anniversary of Pope Paul VIʼs encyclical Populorum Progressio has become an opportunity for John Paul II to document the predicament of his predecessor to analyze the pains of the modern world. One of the most serious problems of world-wide perceived by the pope in the mid-eighties of the twentieth century in the encyclical Sollicitudo rei socialis was the so- Social question. The number of countries on the way of development far exceeded the number of developed countries, economic and cultural gap between the south and north so called. The south was still deepening. The key to resolving this global crisis is, according to John Paul II, the interpersonal and international solidarity. According to the Pope, only through mutual multidimensional and multifaceted assistance and cooper-ation is the integral development of every individual and the development of entire nations and states.

Opis:
Drawing on a range of American, Australian, British and Scandinavian research into laughter, the current paper will use the form of pragmatic analysis typically found in qualitative research and apply it to data produced by the quantitative methodology common in the author’s own discipline of psychology. Laughter will be examined as an indexical that serves both a discourse deictic function, designating the utterance in which it occurs as non-serious, and a social deictic function, marking the laughing person’s preference for social proximity with fellow interlocutors. The paper will then analyse examples and data pertaining to three types of laughter bout derived from taking laughter as an indexical. First, solitary listener laughter will be argued to signify a deferential acknowledgement of continued solidarity with the speaker. Second, solitary speaker laughter will be suggested to mark a simple preference for solidarity. Third, joint laughter will be accepted as a signifier of actual solidarity that may also be used to mark status depending on which party typically initiates the joint laughter. Joint laughter thus acts in a manner closely analogous to the exchange of another set of indexicals, the T and V versions of second person pronouns in European languages. Finally, the paper will conclude by examining the problematic case of laughing at another interlocutor, before briefly considering the implications of this pragmatic perspective for traditional accounts of laughter as well as for future research.

One of the significant issues in Pope Francis's teachings is the culture of encounter. This is the opposite of the culture of rejection which is becoming more and more common. The phenomenon of marginalization of people because of different reasons has been known to the human civilization for ages but nowadays is becomes more widespread. According to Pope Francis, the main indications and the same time causes of the throwaway culture are: fake devotion, egoism, fear, selection, indifference, treating the old as a burden, discrimination, aversion to foreigners, war, death penalty. The Holy Father lists also the countermeasures against exclusion. These are: realizing that we were all created by the same Creator, reminding of human dignity, human solidarity, devoting time to others, acceptance, opening the heart to other people's needs.

Opis:
The main axis of the article is the socio-cultural phenomena occurring since the outbreak of the Russian invasion in Ukraine in 2022, which has caused important changes not only in Europe, but also in other regions of the world. These changes have obvious political, economic, demographic, social and less obvious cultural dimensions. The latter take various forms, among which one is particularly controversial – it is the elimination of Russian culture from the cultural space of Western and other countries, among them Poland. This stems from solidarity with the Ukrainian people and an attempt to influence the attitudes of the Russian society, who, as research indicates, endorse the Russian invasion. The boycott mainly concerns artistic culture, symbolic in terms of the works of both living and deceased artists, contemporary and classical creations, both pro and anti-war artists. Against this background, a public discussion unfolds on the legitimacy of all forms of boycott and the issue of collective responsibility. The theoretical context for the consideration of these phenomena is the concept of cancel culture. Empirical illustrations, on the other hand, are the studies on the discussed phenomena based on the opinion of students of social sciences.

This article focuses on the solidarity of EU member states with the so-called “front” country, Greece, which found itself during the migration crisis in 2015 and in the following years on the most burdened East-Mediterranean route, i.e. the route by sea from Turkey to Greece and onwards to various European Union countries. Refugees from Syria but also from Iraq and Afghanistan continue to arrive along this route. The destinations for boats carrying immigrants and refugees via Turkey to Greece are the islands in the Aegean Sea including the island of Lesbos whereon the infamous Moria camp still plays a special role. The island which hosts Moria is the subject of European solidarity research with Greece. The structure of this article consists of three parts. The first discusses the principle of solidarity which, like any community, lies at the heart of the European Union. Part Two deals with the migration crisis and its challenges regarding the solidarity of EU Member States from Greece. The third part focuses on the humanitarian consequences of the lack of solidarity between EU member states and Greece. The source material is scientific publications on the EU, information from EU portals and press agencies and their recordings of developments in Greece related to the influx of immigrants along the Eastern Mediterranean route along with the author’s own observations of the Moria camp during a visit at the end of November 2019. This article also partly refers to the new humanitarian challenges arising in the context of the situation of immigrants on their way to Europe during the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).

Almost 40 years ago, when I was doing fieldwork in Poland, the word Solidarity was on everyone’s lips. One of the popular rallying cries, here and elsewhere in the region, was that of “rejoining Europe”. Similar ebullience was found in many Western countries at the time, justified by the increasingly progressive politics of the European Economic Community (as it was known at the time) and by the intellectual vogue for “civil society” as a key component of the continent’s liberal Enlightenment heritage.Today, in Poland and elsewhere in Europe, scepticism toward the idea of solidarity at the level of the EU runs deep. Populist politicians thrive and liberal civil society struggles. Why is this happening? Where else in the contemporary world can solidary solutions to the problems of the planet be forged? The answer given in this lecture will be radically Eurosceptic. Without denying the remarkable accomplishments of Europe since classical antiquity, it is necessary to place them in wider contexts. The landmass should be conceived as Eurasia, of which Europe is an important macro-region; it is an equivalent of China, not of Asia. The lecture will touch briefly on Axial Age theory, when social solidarities emerged on an unprecedented scale across the landmass, accompanied by ideas of moral universalism. It will also expound Jack Goody’s thesis concerning “alternating leadership” between East and West since the urban revolution of the Bronze Age. If we follow Goody by abandoning the rhetoric of a “European miracle” and look instead to Eurasian commonalities over the last three millennia, we shall be in a better position to create the geopolitical and moral solidarities urgently needed by humanity.

In autumn 1980 Swiat Młodych, a newspaper addressed to teenagers, announced a competition called “MyWorld 80–81.” By early 1981 hundreds of letters had come in. This unique source of information allows us to get a glimpse of teenagers’ perception of the birth of the “Solidarity” movement. Thanks to these letters, we can take a closer look at school discussions, conversations at the family table or disputes during school intervals. Everyday life is also reflected in these letters: queues, crowded public transport, fatigue and uncertainty. The vast majority of the letter writers sympathised with “Solidarity” although the prospect of confrontation between the regime and the inchoate movement was a source of anxiety. The authorities were largely perceived as a degenerate oligarchy. The quoted letters are also a testimony of discovery of the past and withheld historical facts and also of the search for new authorities (e.g., Czesław Miłosz). The young generation’s declarations suggest that it wanted to participate in public life with previously unparalleled gusto. Martial law nipped this positive energy in the bud.

The analysis of changes in Poland after 2015 based on the paradigm of the revolution has not proved unambiguously that these changes are a revolution, according to commonly accepted schemes. It showed that these changes have many features of the revolution. It is a self-limiting revolution. All changes that have taken place since 2015 destroys the system of liberal democracy, but retains its source, the system of corporate capitalism. Against the expectations of the masses, increases the oppressiveness of the state apparatus. Perhaps it is a new type of revolution, because historically speaking, the revolution always redefined itself. If we assume that Solidarity transformations was itself a new type of the revolution, then the changes after 2015, which are their generative continuation, are such kind of revolution.

Contemporary theological and philosophical ethicists posit the ability of human beings to achieve solidarity with one another on a large social scale. However, many people, including politicians and key decision-makers, have argued that this kind of solidarity is not possible. Several current anthropological theories, such as those undergirding neoclassical economic theory and the realist school of international relations, maintain that individuals and nations essentially act in their own interest. “Selfish” human nature discounts the possibility of broad and sustained solidarity. This paper addresses the question of whether or not human nature contains the potential and impulse to practice solidarity to ever greater degrees. First, it briefly defines solidarity. Next it summarizes competing views among biologists on the consistency between human nature and solidarity. Then it turns to the work of renowned evolutionary biologists David Sloan Wilson and Frans de Waal to demonstrate that solidarity may be more consistent with human nature than many acknowledge.

The first part of the article focuses on the status of the Other (the outline is based on the characteristics presented by Claude Lévi-Strauss, George Simmel, Zygmunt Bauman, Bernhard Waldenfels and Emmanuel Lévinas). The subject of the second part is the category of solidarity – its analysis has been made by referring to the sociological and axiological perspective. In the third part, which is a kind of summary, the ambivalence of the status of the Other in the context of globalization is presented.

This article considers the problem of the idea of participation as an essential dimension of philosophy of education in the context of Karol Wojtyła’s teachings. It proceeds through the concepts of the person and participation. The paper reflects the need for discussion on philosophy of education due to the treatment of individual freedom in an extremely individualistic way. Wojtyła draws on the philosophies of consciousness and the philosophies of being in order to consider the constitution of our ideas in a manner relevant to the education for being together with all people and creatures, with the universe, with the whole world which gives us our own place.

Ideologies are shared via language. Language on the other hand, forms the raw material for dispensing ideology since it is invested by ideology, (Fairclough, 1995:73). According to Wodak (2021), the manifestation of ideology in language is evident in metaphors as well as other forms of linguistic features like lexical meanings, presuppositions, implicatures and coherence. Ideological discourses could be political, religious, economic or social. CMT with reference to Lakoff and Johnson (1980/2003), advanced by Kovecses (2002, 2009, 2010, 2020) have been used for analysis. This paper analyses metaphors that depict the ideology of the popular Kenyan Politician Raila Odinga. His political discourse especially during general elections is characterized by metaphoric language. The key argument in this paper is that, metaphors could manifest ideologies in discourse. Findings indicate that Raila Odinga uses varied metaphors presented in four ideological concepts namely: the socio-democratic ideology; the ideology of conflicts; the savior ideology and the ideology of fear. The socio-democratic ideology projects Raila’s organization of all leaders from various political parties under one coalition that front him as the presidential candidate. The philosophy of solidarity is that all political parties and their leaders have an equal chance to proof themselves as suited for the top seat. Also, Raila projects Kenya in a socio-economic crises and he presents himself as the savior. He therefore calls himself the savior via the biblical Joshua’s metaphor. The one who successfully led the children of Israel to the land flowing with milk and honey. He also spells fear to his opponents once elected in office and he projects the ideology of fear via weather pattern metaphor. He talks of dark clouds, heavy rains and a cyclone that would spell doom for opponents. This paper is a single case study, which is extracting practical data in solving human made phenomena. It is acceptable in the social science and science disciplines. In depth verbatim data has been analyzed both at the surface and deep level to explain how metaphors manifest ideology in the contemporary Kenyan political context, (Zainal 2007; Schoch 2020).

Thesis. The current paper deals with the idea of sisterhood which has been represented in a Bollywood movie named Parched. The movie manifests sisterhood as a way to find solace and to get rid of confinement from the oppressive and suffocating society that tries to confine women within the four walls of the house. Concept. Sisterhood is an association, group, society, or community of women who are linked by common interests. This alliance became popular during the second wave of feminism. A single woman cannot combat the oppressors. Only necessary solidarity and collective efforts would result in the desired improvements. Results and Conclusion. In our society, the term ‘brotherhood’ is used to designate camaraderie among men, but no term is used to denote companionship among women. In fact, it is assumed that women hate each other and this legacy of ‘women-hating’ is proved to be unfounded. Therefore, necessary solidarity is required to correct the patriarchal assumptions about women, and the idea of sisterhood is one effort in this direction.

Work cannot be separated from human life. Nowadays, the concept of work has been usually perceived only from an economic perspective as a factor of production process. Does acquiring the means of livelihood is the only value of human work? No doubt, it is a very basic goal, but not the only one. Besides this dimension, there are many other important aspects of human work. In the first part of my paper, I point out two possible understanding of the phenomenon of human work – an objective and a subjective one. The objective sense has to show haw men reign over the earth (material production). The subjective one emphasizes the dignity of human person (philosophical anthropology and ethics). According to Tischner it would be a mistake to take into account only the objective meaning of work, since the moral sense would have been omitted. In the second part, I will adduce the dangers to the proper understanding of human work which arise when one chooses the wrong concept of man (philosophical anthropology). In the philosophical understanding, work is a derivative of the accepted vision of man. In order to avoid the situation of objectifying of man (problem of reification), we should conceive him as a personal being who crates himself in the process of work. In the final part of my presentation, the phenomenon of work is discussed as a mean of improvement and perfection of human being which is done in cooperation with others. By the means of work man enters into relations with God, with the material world, with others (the social world) and with himself. By the above mentioned means she discovers the purpose of her life.

France has always prioritized firmness, dialogue, and solidarity in its relationship with Ukraine. In response to the conflict, France has taken on the role of a mediator, engaging in dialogue with the Russian leader in an attempt to discourage further aggression. Despite criticism from the international community, France has also provided military aid, including ammunition and cannons, as a demonstration of its expertise in armaments. Although the aid is minimal compared to its arsenal, France fears weakening and seeks to showcase its power. In addition, France has deployed personnel, including instructors for training purposes. Demonstrating its commitment to solidarity, France has provided support in energy, food supply, water access, health care, and transport infrastructure to Ukraine, and reiterated its support at the international conference in December 2022. By contributing in these areas, France intends to play a valuable role in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, solidifying its position as a reliable partner in the process. Overall, France’s commitment to Ukraine is clear, and its effective efforts are an indication of its intention to assist Ukraine in its time of need.

The 1989–1981 Solidarity revolution took everybody by surprise: the political authorities, the democratic opposition and the observers of social life in Poland. It also took the sociologists by surprise. This essay tries to explain why Polish sociology did not forecast Solidarity. The author argues that the reason for this failure lies in the fact that the birth of Solidarity was a revolutionary, and therefore naturally unpredictable, event. It was also an unprecedented one. It was the first anti-totalitarian revolution. He also points out that major social conflict was unthinkable in the context of mainstream theories and did not fit into Polish sociologists’ ideas concerning their own society. He recognizes that the amazement which Solidarity evoked stimulated reflection which led to a deeper understanding of social process and the nature of prediction in sociology.

It was a report drafted by the Administrative Department of the Central Committee of PZPR, discussing both the social and political situation in lawyers’ circles. This topic was high on the agenda of political debates among communist party decision-makers, due to the strong influence the ‘Solidarność’ movement had on lawyer’s circles. Since the introduction of martial law on December 13, 1981, the communist party was trying to withdraw licences to practice a profession for all judges, prosecutors, attorneys and legal counsels who supported ‘Solidarność’. For this reason, the Administrative Department of the Central Committee of PZPR kept a close watch on the lawyers’ circles.

Opis:
Do realizacji niniejszego celu pracy posłużyła kwerenda literatury krajowej i zagranicznej z zakresu prezentowanej tematyki badawczej.
The subject of the paper is the intergenerational solidarity that sociologists have always believed to be the essence of community life, and which has now become an urgent problem for society and a challenge for the authorities. The aim of the study is to present an analysis of the concept of intergenerational solidarity as an ambiguous idea, emphasizing the understanding of the concepts of solidarity and generation. Reference is made to intergenerational relationships (bonds, contracts between different generations). In the context of the issues raised, the essence of intergenerational solidarity is presented, referring to the emerging challenges for the economy and social policy at the beginning of the 21st century, related to the aging population. Intergenerational solidarity is an interdisciplinary concept, definitively involved in such areas of social life as the economy, culture, politics and education. From the point of view of the economy and social policy, the factors connecting the generations is mainly analysed in the category of intergenerational solidarity. It has become a subject for debates, reports, strategies and analyses, related to the globalization process, demographic projections unfavorable for the functioning of pension systems, changes in intergenerational relations, the difficult social situation of the elderly, as well as the redistribution of material resources. Intergenerational solidarity (social cohesion between generations) develops when we create opportunities for intergenerational meetings. Regardless of the method of definition or the level of analysis, the issue of intergenerational solidarity must be taken into account in strategic thinking for the future, based on understanding the type of generational solidarity present and the belief that it is necessary to adapt the intergeneration contract to changing demographic, economic and cultural conditions.

W badaniu zastosowano metody ilościowe i jakościowe.
The aim of the study is to analyze textbook narratives of “Solidarity,” with a special emphasis on the leading figures and symbols present in history textbooks used at the upper secondary level in the years 1991-2018. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used in the study. Using quantitative method enabled to establish the frequency in occurrence of “Solidarity” people in textbook narratives, as well as their possible alteration over time. The subsequently applied critical discourse analysis (CDA) made it possible to explore the values and ideologies hidden in history textbook narratives of “Solidarity.” The obtained results show that the content of textbooks and representations of historical figures remain relatively constant, thus, they are not subject to political shifts. Women remain outside the historical narrative, becoming one of the marginalized groups.

Opis:
The article deals with the terminological issue of the relationship between the notion of social insurance solidarity and insurance equivalence. They are not contradictory – the principle of social insurance equivalence emphasises the dependence of the amount of the benefit on the contribution, while the principle of insurance solidarity underlines the importance of bearing the cost of currently financed insurance benefits in solidarity. Both the outgoing and the current pension system are based on the principle of insurance solidarity, but they differently define the reciprocity of contributions and insurance benefits in solidarity. The calculation of pensions from the number contributions means greater equivalence, while solidarity of the insured, determined as a result of the insurance risk community, actually depends on real subordination to the norms determining the obligation to cover social insurance contributions. Bearing the cost of pensions in solidarity requires appropriate one to emphasise not only of the insured persons forming the risk community, but also the contributors action.
W artykule rozpatrzono kwestię terminologiczną relacji pojęcia solidarności ubezpieczeniowej do ekwiwalentności ubezpieczeniowej. Nie są one przeciwstawne sobie – zasada ekwiwalentności ubezpieczeniowej podkreśla zależność wysokości świadczenia od składki, natomiast zasada solidarności ubezpieczeniowej podkreśla znaczenie wspólnego ponoszenia kosztu obecnie finansowanych świadczeń ubezpieczeniowych. Zarówno ustępujący, jak i obecny system emerytalny są oparte na zasadzie solidarności ubezpieczeniowej, lecz różnie definiują wzajemność składki i świadczeń ubezpieczeniowych. Obliczanie emerytur ze składek oznacza większą ekwiwalentność, natomiast solidarność ubezpieczonych wyznaczana ze względu na wspólnotę ryzyka ubezpieczeniowego faktycznie zależy od rzeczywistego podporządkowania normom określającym obowiązek ubezpieczenia społecznego. Solidarne ponoszenie kosztu świadczeń emerytalnych wymaga podkreślenia działań płatników składek, a nie tylko ubezpieczonych tworzących wspólnotę ryzyka.

Opis:
Imitation is an important factor in the moral development of the human person. Taking on the function of an example or model for others and the corresponding actions of the imitators who conform to those of the external model may be interpreted as an attitude of solidarity. This specific kind of love and service to others obliges people to involvement for the sake of the common good, for the well-being of all and everyone. An important element of this commitment is exhibiting in one’s own behavior authentic values, which take on the stature of an exemplar or model for others. In that way, moral exemplarism is a kind of contribution to the well-being of others and to the common good, as it is a call to participate in the values interiorized by the model. The imitator’s attitude can also be seen as one of solidarity, through which he is able to properly assess the values of the models, and follow only the real ones. In this manner, he can become a responsible participant in society. Openness towards models is a sign of an active presence in community life, which builds up the richness of its members.

The I National Congress of Delegates of Independent Self-Governing Trade Union “Solidarity [NSZZ “Solidarnos´c´”] meeting in Gdan´sk in September and Ocober, 1981 is considered the crowning achievement of the “Solidarity’s” organizational and ideological development. No serious and comprehensive monography has yet been written, historical or sociological. The lack of a complete text of the eighteen days of talks was one of the reasons. A shorthand report of the first tour which has been made available recently makes it possible to make some preliminary analyses of the Congress’ topics and dynamics, behaviour of the delegates and mechanisms of their decision-making. It also permits to describe their “union-like” way of thinking as well as understanding and practicing democracy. The author of the article recalls the basic statistics of the community of delegates-a sui generis trade union elite. He moreover poses questions regarding the scale of the secret services’ [SB] controlling the course of the Congress. The author favours the assumption that it was surprisingly negligible.

The main aim of this paper is to juxtapose the normative aspect of intergenerational solidarity with specific care practices against the backdrop of Poland’s public debate on social expectations, costs and changes needed in the system of pensions and social benefits offered to elderly citizens (the systemic context of intergenerational solidarity). The paper presents grandparents’ practices in offering care to their grandchildren and children’s practices in supporting their elderly parents. Such practices originate not as much from the emotional aspect of intergenerational solidarity as from culture-defined expectations of specific age categories, reinforced by unavailability of public care institutions. The analysis, based on qualitative and quantitative data, finds that intergenerational solidarity in Poland is a source of multiple tensions (including gender-related ones).

This essay investigates key aspects of the rhetorical structure of Romans 5–8 in relationship to Paul’s depictions of Christian experience. Taking Romans 5:1–5 as a blueprint for a trajectory of hope in chapters 5–8, I discuss three textual “detours” where Paul interrupts that trajectory: a rhetorical performance of life under sin (7:7–25), a depiction of union with all creation in suffering and hope (8:18–27), and a cry of lament (8:26). These rhetorical interruptions evoke Christian experience in solidarity with all creation - a solidarity that in turn displays Christ’s redemptive participation in the depths of all human dereliction, and thereby evokes hope.

This essay considers how #MeToo’s recent iteration in the Greek context has stirred trouble in the theatre, instigating a politics of resistance against obdurate histories of injustice against women’s bodies in the industry whilst also creating spaces for solidarity among performers and theatre makers. My main intention is to examine how the above issues form part of the same ecology of precarity that dovetailed when the Greek #MeToo began to take force. In doing so, I will first focus on two recent major incidents occurring in the country’s flagship state theatre, the National Theatre of Greece, which involved two of its former male artistic directors in order to discuss how debates around precarity and exclusion in the theatre industry were unearthed. I will then shift focus to Greek artists’ self-organizing tactics through the examples of the activist network Support Art Workers and the Actors’ Trade Union who have started developing codes of conduct and strategies to challenge the devaluation and feminization of artistic labour. The article will further make reference to specific developments across the international theatre industry that connect to the tenets of the #MeToo which offer apertures for progressive change in the field of Greek theatre and its institutions.

This study focuses on analysis of the discourse of solidarity during the current migrant crisis, with special attention paid to the second half of 2015 and the first months of 2016. We start by looking for the sources of the concept of solidarity in the writings of the founding fathers of the European Union and in the existing EU treaties. We then try to decide to what extent the political narratives of the crisis are based on these sources and in what ways they deviate from them or use them in a superficial way. Finally, we verify our research assumptions and offer an overview of the academic debate on the subject.

Opis:
Compared to other Polish emigrant cohorts, the broadly understood Solidarity emigration to the USA and Canada of the early 1980s occupies a distinctive place. Their literary output produced for the most part in English came quickly and entered the mainstream book market already at the turn of the century. Even though their fiction deployed fairly typical themes of dislocation, emigrant experience and construction of immigrant identity in the receiving country, its uniqueness rests in the two-fold vision of two very closely related generations: the first generation emigrants who left Poland as adults, as well as their children, classified as the generation 1.5, who experienced growing up in two countries. In their semi autobiographical fiction, writers representing the older generation such as Eva Stachniak and Czesław Karkowski, devote much of their work to justifying the decision to emigrate and attempt to position their successful characters within the narrative of the American dream. In contrast, younger generation authors such as Karolina Waclawiak and Dagmara Dominczyk, construct a much darker vision of the fragmented immigrant identity that leaves their fictional characters psychologically fragile. In their struggle, they identify the cause of this suffering in their parents’ choice to leave the home country.

The paper concerns the value of solidarity in the structure of the European Union’s axionormative system in the context of the 2015 refugee crisis. For the needs of these considerations Florian Znaniecki’s concept of axionormative system was chosen. It has a form of three-level hierarchical structure, which consists of the institutional level, the awareness level and the implementation level. All as these levels were analysed in relation to the value of solidarity, in the context of the 2015 refugee crisis. The results of these considerations indicate that while the institutional and awareness levels of the European Union’s axionormative system are compatible with each other, there is a clear break between them and the level of implementation, in the context of the refugee crisis.

Blessed Father Jerzy Popieluszko and the sermons he gave during the famous “Mass. for the Homeland”, the history of the Church in Poland are permanently inscribed. In his teaching, he defended and appealed for the concern of basic values for man and society (truth, freedom, justice, love, fortitude, Homeland). Among the many topics and values that appear in “zoliborz teaching”, the place has also found its place − solidarity. It has dual meaning here as it refers to NSZZ “Solidarnosc” and to the concept of idea as a common good. Fr. Popieluszko solidarity defined as the unity of complex hearts in action towards the common good, the constant pursuit of the nation, the society for truth, justice and freedom. Contemporary society, man, is often accompanied by the loss of interpersonal links leading to selfish materialism, the rejection of the idea of solidarity. Therefore, in this light, the teaching of Fr. Popieluszko appears as still up-to-date. Appropriate approach to the idea of solidarity and its realization excludes exploitation from society, any oppression and annihilation of others, and the spirit of solidarity becomes the path to peace and the development of society. Solidarity becomes the cornerstone of the inner and outer peace of man and of the community. Solidarity cannot be considered as one of many grounds for human and social life, but as a foundation from which other principles spring up, as pointed out by Blessed Father Jerzy Popieluszko.

There were two main goals announced in its foreign policy: obtaining the membership in NATO and the accession to the European Union understood as ‘Europe of Fatherlands’. AWS won the elections in 1997 with the result of 34 per cent of the vote.

This article focuses on a double identity of rituals: the origin and main structure of rituals is narrative, and they represent a particular logic which aims at establishing a different quality of life. The narrative structure coincides with a typical characteristic of the human mind: the commemoration of striking dramatic or liberating events. Hence the ongoing concern to remember; the anamnesis intends to prevent that what among people never should be forgotten remains present in the individual and collective memory. Rituals are the most powerful means to keep memory alive. The coincidence of the faithfulness to a living tradition and the authentic commitment to present human concerns guarantees that the ritual anamnesis introduces qualitative change among the people involved.

One of the issues that emerges with regard to radical human enhancement is the destruction of the intergenerational connections. It is variously envisioned in science fiction, and we can speak of many possible plateaus on which the human continuity, which entails solidarity, can be contested. Contemporary young adult dystopias, such as Shusterman’s Unwind Dystology (2007-15) and The Arc of a Scythe (2016-) cycles, Beckett’s Genesis (2010), Patterson’s Maximum Ride (2005-15) or Wells’s Partials (2009-14), very often conjoin the intergenerational issues typical of juvenile fiction with bioethical concerns in the posthuman and transhuman world. I look at the speculative futures of intergenerational solidarity from the point of view of the biological continuity, the subjective continuity and postgenerationality in an immortal society. In the majority of cases it may be observed how the child-adultdichotomy, with the superimposed adult normativity prejudice, threatens the coexistence of trans- and posthumans with their “parents,” leading to the redefinition of altruism in the wake of the homicidal ALife apocalypse. The relatively broad spectrum of the cases and perspectives I have selected yields a fairly comprehensive picture of contemporary projections of intergenerational solidarity “after the genome” (Herrick 2013).

The memory of the “Solidarity” movement, problems of memory and conflicts of memory are analyzed in the contemporary context of the formation of collective identities in Poland. Politics of memory and commemoration are discussed as part of the politics of symbolization. Symbolic construction of “Solidarity” is analyzed on two levels: the symbolism of the organization of collective actions and discursive symbolism-in other words-symbolism in the “Solidarity”movement and the symbolization of the movement. The other aspect implies politics of symbolization, politics of memory and commemoration, conflict of interpretations and conflict about the memory. The “Solidarity” movement has had many meanings and the interpretation of the movement can refer to various frames of meanings: a workers’ revolution, a civil revolution, a movement for national liberation, a movement for religious deprivatization, a moral movement. The multiplicity of meanings has generated conflicts of interpretations. Collective memory is crucial for the phenomenon of “Solidarity” both as a historical movement and as representations in discourses-the symbolic movement of memory.

When the pandemic broke out in 2020, it was reported that interest in Albert Camus’ book, The plague, had significantly risen. Throughout the past year, many scholars and editors have attempted to formulate reasons for interest in Camus’ existential novel. In the light of these readings and interpretations, we tend to see recent events, our contemporary social and political crises, through the symbols and myths represented in Camus’ novel. This essay offers an attempt at a contemporary re-reading of Camus’ novel, focusing on the character of Tarrou and his appeal to social and political action, as well as resistance and creation. My point is that it is actually Tarrou that represents our struggle, given the complex, social and political aspects of our crisis. My reading, based on Kierkegaard’s idea of repetition, offers a nuanced vision of what rebellion against the plague could mean in the light of our contemporary situation.

Opis:
The phenomenon of migration concerns 3.3% of the general population living in the world and its number is still increasing. In order to stop migration measures are taken, which are largely against human rights to migration. The right to migration itself is denied. The activities that aim to restrict the right and not to regulate it become an alarming tendency. As a category of mixed rights, whose title is in the human nature (dignity), measure is positive regulation of exercising these rights as its internal element.

Forced heirship is considered a limit on the freedom of will of the deceased in favour of intergenerational solidarity. It involves that some relatives, usually descendants, have the right to claim a share of the deceased’s assets or estate. Although recognized in most EU jurisdictions, authors discuss about the need to regulate this institution taking into account new family models and societal changes. In fact, this debate has been intensified due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which showed that several elders died alone in nursing homes without family support, and part of their assets shall be reserved to their relatives. This paper analyses the legal framework of forced heirship in Spain and examines to which extent it is possible to exclude this right due to a lack of personal relationship with the beneficiaries in view of comparative models.

Its philosophical base is the personalistic anthropology, which speaks about prosocial nature of man and its active participation in the social life. The biblical-theological base of solidarity are: personal dignity of man comme God’s image, person and learning of Christ, community of the Church. The second part of paper discusses elements ontological-anthropological and biblical-ethical which are necessary in the realisation of solidarity’s principle. They are following: pluralism of equal persons and societies, its dialogue, co-production of common good by honest work, integral development economic and intelectual-cultural, equality, social justice and love, peace and reciprocal settlement. The thirt part of paper speaks about three circles of application of solidarity’s principle; namely: solidarity professional-working – defend of rihts of workers, solidarity general-social of nation and state – protection of economic and political human rihts, solidarity international of humanity – trend towards peace and prosperity.

Crisis, sometimes associated with historically distant times or centrally planned economies, has turned out to be one of the main contemporary issues. Hence different systems like socialism and capitalism become similar in their inability to reply to expectations for a safe, peaceful and abundant life. It means that economic problems are more complex in their nature. Thorough analysis of the roots of different crises should therefore reach deeper than just economic explanations. This is the point where ethical and cultural explanations may be useful because they strive to explore the socio-cultural fabric at its foundations in the hierarchy of values and vision of human beings and society. When it comes to contemporary crisis the problem is twofold: firstly, there is the threat that the crisis will be treated inadequately and not realistically in consequence. Secondly, the roots ofthe crisis may not be diagnosed properly, which may lead to false ‘treatment’. This article is an attempt to highlight the above issues and analyse them in the context ofthe common good approach, which seems to offer valuable potential to understand the difficulties properly and offer a reasonable plan for recovery.

Opis:
The following paper investigates the values building the axiological paradigm of social inclusion intensification using the legal doctrine. The analysis is set within the Polish legal system,  which is part of the international and EU law established for the maintenance of social cohesion. On the one hand, the Polish solutions not only stem from the European civilization heritage, but also create and reinforce it. The individual sections of the paper provide an analysis of such inclusive values as dignity, freedom, equality, common good and social solidarity which are assumed to be the basis for all inclusive actions performed within civil societies in democratic states based on the rule of law. The analysis also considers a possible hierarchy of those values and how they affect each other. While the inclusive values themselves appear to be universal, their relations and influence on each other (possibly: hierarchy) is strictly dependent on the national legislation. The research has shown the way in which the investigated values/principles coexist. Human dignity has been found to be the fundamental and supreme value of the Polish legal system, while social solidarity supports social cohesion. It is not possible to artificially separate those values – only when they intertwine, complete and enhance each other can the inclusive actions be designed and executed in the most advantageous manner. Therefore, values and rules which bear them form a praxeological system; they must be interpreted only within the context of their coexistence, relations and the influence they have on one another. Each of the discussed values takes part in the establishment of the resources shared by a democratic state and by the internal structures of the civil society existing within this state’s bounds. Only by taking them all into consideration can we provide an adequate and comprehensive understanding of inclusivity and achieve its desired model.

Opis:
In this paper, the author deals with the question of communion ecclesiology in the context of the current migration crisis in Europe. Contextual theology based on the correlation method tries to develop the understanding of the Church’s essence and mission by using the ecclesiological model called communion and putting it in the contemporary social context. The notion of the ‘stranger’ introduced by the sociologists into the public discourse seems to be very operative and useful category for ecclesiology as well. The first part of the article presents the phenomenon of the stranger in sociological perspective. The second part discusses Jesus as Sacrament of God in the encounter with strangers. The author analyses Jesus’ words and his attitude to strangers and socially alienated people. The third part describes the Church as the sacrament of responsibility and open home for strangers and poor people. The Church can be also understood as the mother with a heart open especially to those who suffer from war and misery. In the final part of this paper the author presents some pastoral implications. He draws attention to the necessity to enhance the social aspect of Eucharist and to encourage the believers to create the ‘culture of solidarity’ with refugees and strangers in need.

Solidarity together with civil society, tolerance, democracy, the rule of law, prosperity and peace is one of the principles of the European axiological system. They serve the basic European values constituting the human subject. They are dignity as a fundamental value along with subsidiary values: brotherhood, equality, freedom as well as life and health. The main thesis of the article is the claim that abandoning the implementation of the principle of solidarity in European space will inevitably lead to the reactivation of ideologically hypostasized constructs, which will result in the replacement of dignity by one of the abstractions (state, nation, God etc.), which in a straight line may lead to a situation in which Europeans lived in most of the 20th century.

The issue of culture, while present in the Polish scholarship on the Solidarity movement, remains untheorized. Explorations of culture in the literature are largely descriptive rather than explanatory in nature. In this article, I examine the opportunities that arise when we assume a cultural theoretical perspective in the sociological study of social movements. I focus primarily on the available definitions of culture and their relevance to the problem. I consider the role of culture from three perspectives: first, as the cause of the social movement’s emergence; second, as the movement’s internal organizing structure; and third, as a consequence of the movement. The issues discussed in this essay will be related both to the current state of the theory as well as the ongoing and potential studies of the Solidarity movement, thus providing an illustration to the subject at hand and paving the way for research on other Polish movements. The article concludes with a discussion of the benefits and drawbacks of the cultural approach in the sociology of social movements and considers its place within the scope of the Polish research on the subject.

The process of economic and technological globalization means among other things: establishment of the world market, predominant role of international companies, centralization of leading elites’ decisions, financial disproportion between individual people and countries. In the teaching of contemporary popes (John XXIII’s, Paul VI’s, John Paul II’s) the idea of social justice has also international dimension and therefore process of economic globalization ought to respect two principles of the Church’s social teaching: the principle of the subsidiarity and the principle of solidarity. The principle of the subsidiarity demands to respect subjectivity of all nations and states as well as to aid their integral development. The principle of solidarity postulates creation of common good of world society, this good are: peace, economic prosperity, commerce profitable for all states, cooperation and financial help of rich countries for underdeveloped countries. The social justice in the international dimension is the expression and the imperative of solidarity of all nations and states.

In this paper the author has made an attempt to outline the way Ryszard Legutko and Zdzisław Krasnodębski understand selected values. The views of the aforementioned authors on freedom, tolerance and solidarity were discussed. Freedom is seen as the most characteristic notion of our times, being the key to the understanding of contemporary politics or customs. Tolerance is becoming the ultimate criterion of morality in today’s liberal societies. In turn, the idea of solidarity, as understood by Polish social movement of 1980–1981, seems to be the only concept created in Poland in the last decades which found its place in international circulation of ideas.

T he “Solidarity” Movement is interpreted similarly to the classical approach discus- sed in the theories of social movements, each of which defines the social mechanism fuelling its activities in a different way. The aim of the article is to structure the inter - pretations used in the national and international literature on sociology (usually by relatively obscure historians). The author discusses “Solidarity” as a class movement by explaining its emergence as a reaction to the system crisis, fuelled by the activities of the democratic opposition, as well as two types of methods referring to the so-called theo- ry of new social movements. The author claims that none of the described theoretical approaches reflect the entire complexity of the dynamics of the “Solidarity” movement; in particular, they do not explain its aims and long-term cultural effects. However, the author emphasizes the important results of its activities and lays foundations for furt- her research of a more synthetic nature.

The author of this paper analyses selected solutions of sickness insurance in terms of the implementati on of the principle of solidarity, with the considerations referring to sickness and maternity allowances. A thorough analysis of the regulations concerning the personal scope of sickness insurance, the rules for financing contributions, conditions for the acquisition or continuation of sickness and maternity allowances, the possibility of receiving these benefits after the lapse of the insurance coverage and the basis for contribution assessment leads to the conclusion that sickness insurance is essentially based on the principle of solidarity. However, some detailed solutions violate this principle, by allowing for some abuses at the expense of the risk community or by allowing benefits to be received in a situation where there is no social risk.

At the theoretical and empirical levels the social capital of the Jehovah’s Witness communities in contemporary Ukrainian society is examined. The necessity of sociological study of the influence of social capital (J. Coleman, R. Patnam, M. Oberg etc.) on the formation and development of neoprotestant religious communities is substantiated. On the basis of 40 semi-structured interviews with Jehovah’s Witnesses the social capital of JW communities is analyzed. It is concluded that latter is is driven by high regulatory and symbolic integration within the community, as well as intensified inclusive social ties. As a consequence, the individual’s involvement in JW community structure, dependence on it and solidarity with the goals of its activity increases. Such a process does not, however, contribute to the creation of cross-sectional social bonds, which is a problematic basis for the further creation of social capital in society scale.

Social assistance is a part of administrative law, which has developed along with the systemic reforms carried out in Poland after 1989. It is currently one of the fastest growing parts of administrative law. It results in the fact that social assistance introduces into the theory of administrative law new solutions that did not appear earlier and also leads to taking a new look at the already existing institutions and concepts. Social assistance has led to displaying the prominence of axiology in administrative law, including concepts such as dignity and solidarity. A new look at the issue of constitutive decision has become necessary and, in particular, it can have retroactive effects. Social assistance has also brought a new look at issues pertaining to family, giving it the legal status and equipping it with the ability to apply for certain benefits.

Opis:
The migration crisis of 2015 has left its mark on many EU countries. Some, such as Greece or Spain, were countries on the front line. Others, namely Germany, Great Britain, and Sweden became destination countries for many newcomers. Some, like the countries of the Visegrad Group, opposed the actions and decisions of the EU made in the face of the crisis. European solidarity has become a big question mark and we can observe a serious upsetting of the whole integration project which is, of course, up for discussion. This state of affairs consisted of the attitudes towards the crises of such countries as Poland or Hungary, here anti-immigration and populist parties came to power, creating a vision of flexible solidarity on the European political scene. The purpose of this article is to analyse the Polish migration policy, show the direction of the changes in its construction along with the change of government and the societal reaction to strangers, as a direct result of actions taken by the ruling parties. It is important to understand the political, economic and social context of the changes occurring in the social consciousness and to attempt to formulate a forecast for the future.

This article attempts to demonstrate the relationships between a new political theology developing in the 20th century in Western Europe and the ethical-social thought of J. Tischner. The starting point of both concepts is the non-culpable suffering of man. The article presents countermeasures proposed by J. Tischner against non-culpable suffering, i.e. mercy, solidarity and Christian hope. Tischner’s philosophy is far from utopian dreams of the complete elimination of suffering, which is simply impossible here on earth. The philosopher from Krakow proposes, however, measures which allow one to endure difficult situations with dignity. Tischner himself extracts from the Gospel the values which Christianity continually offers to an ever more ruthless, indifferent and cold world.

He wrote about being fulfilled as a human being trough the act and about authentic and nonauthentic social attitudes.

The aim of this study is to present Albert Camus’and Karl Jaspers’ interpretations of Ivan Karamazov’s rebellion as the diagnoses of the weakness of the human intellect in confrontation with the world and the criticism of rationalism. Therefore, in the introduction I will present those fragments of the novel that characterize Ivan’s rebellion as highly abstract and theoretical. At the same time, this common literary context serves as the ground for reconstruction and comparison of the basic philosophical assumptions of each author. The intention of the remaining part of the paper is, firstly, to reconstruct A. Camus’ and K. Jaspers’epistemology and, secondly, to analyse the arguments against Ivan’s attitude formulated by the writers. Their criticisms of the protagonist’s excessive trust in intellect is based on their own concepts of human epistemic capacity, which are related to the problems of the absurd in A. Camus’ and transcendence in K. Jaspers’ writings. The question of nihilism demands analysis of A. Camus’ idea of the nature of rebellion as both affirmative and negative, and of K. Jaspers’ notion of faith as pre-intellectual trust. Finally, their criticisms of the slogan “If there is no God, then anything is allowed” introduces the problem of freedom, which allows the comparison of the concepts of solidarity (A. Camus) and communication (K. Jaspers). In the conclusion these two philosophical attitudes are discussed together.

The essay defines the notion of “solidarity” and points to the inherent tensions and dilemmas of the phenomenon. Such internal contradictions arise between the equality of value of interests and welfare of members and the inequality of activity; between effectiveness in conflict and direct service to the interests and welfare of members; between direct service and conflict, and between volunteer work and concrete tasks. Solidarity is distinguished from social cohesion. Inequality of activity is compared to equality of inherent value. Various types are presented: paramilitary and Machiavelian Solidarity, Solidarity mobilized by external crisis or created in return to solidarity received, and Solidarity manifested in relation to concrete acts with symbolic purposes.

The issue of the harnessing of symbols by politicians is essential, because it ex-plains to what extent government representatives are able to make an impact on society and how much identifying with specific symbols can be viewed as an acceptance of political myths and ideas by voters. This topic is particularly valid in the light of upcom-ing local government elections. Time caesuras of the analyzed subject will be limited by the duration of the election campaign that took place in 2011, from the announcement by the President of the Repub-lic of Poland to the start of electoral silence. Territorial coverage of the undertaken re-search will apply to constituency No. 25: the Gdańsk constituency which covers the following counties: Gdańsk, Kwidzyn, Malbork, Nowy Dwór, Starogard, Sztum, Tczew and cities with county rights like Gdańsk and Sopot. The intention of this article is to indicate the manner and intensity in which the symbol of “Solidarity” was used during the parliamentary election campaign by candi-dates from the Gdańsk constituency as well as to answer if, and to what extent it contrib-uted towards their electoral success.

Opis:
This article is a description of the current situation of the family from a Christian perspective and is divided into three chapters according to the method of the catholic social teaching: see judge, act. In the first part, a analysis of reality is presented, that is a sociological view of the situation of the family in the European countries. The outline of the situation of the family is shown in three dimensions (socio-cultural, political and economic). The second part briefly treats the Catholic teaching on the family, especially their social significance according to John Paul II.. The third part formulates practical conclusions to the question of what we can and should do to promote the family. It is the aim of Christian social ethics – as an instrument of evangelization - to draw adequate conclusions resulting in effective actions of Christians. It is about building bridges between theology and the challenges of the present. Without a doubt, the family is not just a relic of the past, as it was provocatively formulated in the title, but it is, and will continue to be, the foundation of the future.

This paper will address an issue that is not often discussed in the context of civic and democratic education – the shaping of political emotions. My main purpose is to outline pedagogical currents that are oriented towards cultivating the ability to identify with the suffering of the Other. This emotional identification is based on an ability to perceive structural processes that generate marginalisation and injustice and can serve as a basis for an affirmative, collective action. The thesis presented in this paper is that educational institutions should work towards fostering democratic and collective forms of subjectivity. Drawing on ideas from the existing literature I will discuss the political dimension of anger and the notion of critical pedagogy of compassion that are placed in a broader perspective of radically conceived solidarity.

The main purpose of this essay is to determine whether organized voluntary activity is always equated with social capital by evaluating the results of the research work entitled “YoungAdults, the Family and Pro-social Behavior: A Study of the Organized Volunteer.” The author also reflects on whether or not the young adults who voluntarily do such work are good fellows outside of that context (for example in their family life) and outside of the narrow sphere of their professional commitments (for example in society at large). For this reason, the author’s analysis is not confined to the voluntary activities of the young people but seeks to explore other dimensions of the issue. For the author, the research objectives of this paper can be achieved only by examining the familial, friendly and romantic relationships of the young people, along with their values and moral viewpoints.

For most of September and October 2005, the Polish news media were busy covering the parliamentary and the presidential elections in that country. Beginning two weeks apart from one another, with the presidential run-off election following two weeks later, these overlapping campaigns became the most important media and political events of the year. Their conjunction was an occurrence expected to happen once in 20 years because of Poland’s five-year presidential term and a four-year parliamentary term. For the first time since 1989, the result was that the President, the upper house of the parliament (Senat) and the lower house (Sejm) of the parliament are now controlled by the same party, Law and Justice (PiS). For the first time since Solidarity swept both elections, the Polish electorate has also made a definite turn to the right, voting for a political party that supports radical change, the symbolic setting up of a Fourth Republic which will be a morally superior country in contrast to the third Republic, the independent Polish state established after the Solidarity revolution when Poland was the first country in the former Soviet Block to end communism. This essay analyzes the 2005 presidential campaign from the point of view of agenda setting theory of how political communication is framed in campaign messages, media use and media coverage.

Liberalism and republicanism constitute two major concepts of civic participation, both in the historical and the socio-philosophical meaning. The first one is questioned because of its individualistic vision of citizenship leading to impairment of community ideas and values, responsibility and motivation to engage in actions promoting the common good and decay of social bonds. The republican pattern of civic participation is a correction of this concept, putting emphasis on the value and meaning of communal forms of social life as well as on civil education. The article characterizes and compares both patterns of civic involvement in socio-political life, emphasizing differences and simplifications occurring between particular orientations of both republican and liberal concepts. Moreover, the article aims at interpreting main ideas constituting the republican idea, such as: freedom, equality, community, common good and solidarity.

Therefore, should the characteristics derived from the principle of solidarity prevail, the recipient of the measures will not qualify as an ‘undertaking’, for the purposes of State aid rules.

The policies relating to the management of migration - control of external borders, asylum and immigration have been, as is well known, sovereign prerogatives for excellence. The long-standing refuse of the EU Member States to provide them to a supranational government is a clear evidence of that. Determined to retain the exclusive control over the migrants, States have continued, to handle the situation. This paper aims to reconstruct the foundations of the external dimension of EU migration policy, in order to highlight its complexity, resulting from the global scope of the problem and by its sensitive nature. If the global reach of migration invites the adoption of a coherent strategy that, gives substantial and structural interdependence between internal and external dimensions, allows to strengthen the Union’s credibility on the international stage, the sensitive nature of migration policy confirms ‘the opportunity to implement flexible solutions suitable to shape the criterion of added value. Defining the conditions of consistency and flexibility to which the Union’s external action can bring the management of migration - a management which will pursue all objectives of the EU’s migration policy in accordance with the its principles, such as solidarity and the protection of fundamental rights - is the focus of this paper.

Opis:
At the end of the XX century something extraordinary happened in history of Poland. Without using violence the country become independent and Soviet occupation was stopped. The phenomenon proved John Paul II’ s teachings that “peace is made of justice and solidarity”. This article is divided into two parts. The first one is about the principles of solidarity used during the 1980 strike in the Shipyard of Gdańsk. These principles enabled the strike leaders to hold talks with the communist authorities. The agreement was the key which freed the country from the Soviet occupation and eventually gave it its freedom. The second part of the article consists of a description of interhuman and international solidarity which is found in John Paul II’s works. His teaching during the 3rd pilgrimage to Poland that took place in 1987 and which was addressed mainly to the working people of Gdańsk and Gdynia had a great impact on Polish people. However after Poland regained its independence the idea of solidarity was forgotten. It could not be found in the reality described in newspapers or other mass media. It’s high time this changed. Scientists and journalists responsible for the picture of public life, should remind society of the solidarity principles. They should also show the advantages of using these rules in the national economy. Thus showing the way to a successful, peaceful development of work, economic development and well-being in our present day society.

Opis:
This article is an attempt to link the attributes of “Solidarity” with the movement’s place in the theory of social movements. The evolutionary paradigm has left a gap with respect to selection and systematisation of these movements. The historical approach must be adopted in order to fill in this gap. It is therefore necessary to focus on “Solidarity” as a special case in the context of the history of nation, within the framework of the totalitarian macro-formation produced by the solutions adopted after World War II. “Solidarity’s” contribution was not limited to one country only. It also helped to trigger more general transformation and globalisation processes. The rationality of “Solidarity” is rooted in systemic contingencies which required the development of an effectivemethod-sit-in strikes-but also negotiations with the regime. However, the democratic culture rooted in national tradition was the decisive factor. In the West, the state was already being viewed as an obsolete form, whereas the lesson which was learned from the Polish experience was that the sovereign state is essential for reform and modernisation. The validity of this lesson was confirmed in practice. The author argues that “Solidarity” did not fit into the schematic distinction between “old” and “new” movements. Class interests were not a priority, neither were the interests of minorities, as they are in the West.

The concept of justice has been constantly discussed from ancient times to the present day, which shows its importance and complexity. It reveals its diversity in the context of cultural differences, philosophical concepts, ideas and schools of thought. The extremely popular Harvard University professor Michael Sandel also undertook his analysis of the issue of justice. In his articles, books and lectures, he repeatedly addresses the issue of justice, analyzing its development, application and the resulting consequences of its application. At the same time, he does not avoid unambiguous assessments and expressing his opinions. This attitude allows us to discover and analyze his own concept of justice, seen in the perspective of a virtue fulfilling an important role in public life. His reflections on the question of justice reveal the assumptions of a broader philosophical perspective, referred to as communitarianism.
W swoich artykułach, książkach i wykładach wielokrotnie podejmuje on problematykę sprawiedliwości, analizując jej rozwój, zastosowanie i wynikające z tego konsekwencje. Taka postawa pozwala nam odkryć i przeanalizować jego własną koncepcję sprawiedliwości, widzianej w perspektywie cnoty pełniącej niezwykle ważną rolę w życiu publicznym. Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the paper is to present arguments in favour of the necessity of seeking a new security paradigm in the globalisation era, a world that keeps changing dynamically, entangled in a network of interconnections and at risk. The scale and type of threats that contemporary communities are confronted with continually provide new impulses to revise the security paradigm. Introduction: The globalisation processes are transnational in nature, involve the entire international community and occur simultaneously. These processes are complex, and their impact on the security environment is equally complex. They make people aware and shape the need for security as one of the essential existential needs of societies. Efforts to find a new security paradigm in the contemporary world are part of the attempt to respond to global challenges and threats. The environment of the security entity, which is both man and the nation-state that tend to change as a result of globalisation processes, requires the implementation of in-depth analyses and a broad research perspective, which should take into account both the complexity and variability of the security phenomenon as such, as well as changes taking place in this environment. Methodology: The paper was devised using a problembased method based on a review of literature on the subject. Not only were the achievements of Polish science used, but also the sources presenting the results of research conducted by representatives of academia of various research provenance from Europe and the United States. Conclusions: The new global order is aimed at assuring human security, and needs to be based on a strong cultural foundation, one consisting of common values. The postulate of seeking a new security paradigm in the world of the globalization ear is a response to the challenges of the present times and threats that national societies and the international community must face. The cultural dimension of security and its axiological basis are of increasing importance here. Accordingly the global society may become a security community that shares common values, among which mutual accountability plays a particular role - both global solidarity and solidarity between people. Given the nature of ongoing processes and the changes that are taking place, some researchers support the necessity of adopting an approach to security which should be based on political science, and emphasise the necessity of working out of a paradigm characterised by a holistic approach to this issue.
Wprowadzenie: Procesy globalizacji mają charakter ponadnarodowy, obejmują całą społeczność międzynarodową i zachodzą równocześnie.

The inspiration to write this article became the words of John Paul II cited as a motto, pointing to the value of human and Christian solidarity implantation of a disabled child in the family. The article is an attempt to interpret this thesis. For the purposes of the author to develop solidarity be multifaceted to be seen. It is the cooperation of both parents of a disabled child of God, experienced in religious experiences. And the need to support theological ofiarowywanego them by the pastors. Both its forms contribute to a change of optics parents looking for their child’s disability. Being helpful in overcoming crises, in przepracowywaniu disordered poczuciami hurt, grief, despair, suffering, and other negative emotions experienced. Above this value the human and Christian solidarity is also the same attitude. Understood as solidarity assistance provided for their disabled child, manifesting itself in giving him special care.

Artykuł omawia ideę solidarności w kontekście współczesnych wyzwań społecznych i kulturowych, odwołując się głównie do myśli H.G. Gadamera, K. Wojtyły oraz J. Tischnera. Najpierw autor próbuje scharakteryzować różne podejścia do solidarności, jej fałszywe i sprzeczne interpretacje.
This article discusses the idea of solidarity in the context of contemporary social and cultural challenges, referring mainly to H.G. Gadamer, K. Wojtyła and J. Tischner. First, the author tries to characterize different approaches to solidarity, its false and contradictory interpretations. In the next point, he shows the need for a reflective approach to solidarity in uncertain times. The reflective approach affects the resolution of the conflict of interpretation of the world, man, values. The ability to see the otherness and the distinctiveness of others in their respect as free personal subjects, as well as the basic readiness to give and receive, not only opens the way to values, but creates the conditions for learning solidarity. The consequence of the presented approach is the analysis of reciprocity, which is based on openness, cooperation and trust towards the participants of social life.

In today’s society there are a huge amount of real risks threatening not only the economic interests of society but also the social life of individuals. These security risks should be seen as an inseparable part of all social processes. The main aim of crisis management is to establish a functional strategy on how to manage both risks and crises. The goal of this paper is to clarify the implementation and application of ethical principles for both crisis management levels. It is necessary to realize that “crisis ethics” is not just a specific form of normative social ethics. The ethical dimension of crisis management also includes the professional ethics of crisis managers.

At the core of my investigation is the process of amalgamation of text and image within the boundaries of the illustrated book for young Soviet readers. As a part of the general desire to translate Communism into idioms and images accessible to children, books visualized ideological norms and goals in a way that guaranteed easy legibility and direct appeal, without sacrificing the political appeal of the message. Illustrated books presented the propagandistic content as a simple narrative or verse, while also casting it in images. A vehicle of ideology, an object of affection, and a product of labor, the illustrated book for the young Soviet reader became an important cultural phenomenon, despite its perceived simplicity and often a minimal set of technical devices.

The author establishes that religion, spirituality, and culture are intertwined and have a strong influence on each other. After a short introduction to basic concepts, the author first shows how spirituality is a fruit of religion and/or culture. Then the influence of spirituality on religion and culture is explored. Finally, the author also tries to show the possibility of a Christian spirituality transformation that is capable of responding to the needs of our time for a new humanity able to live in solidarity while building relationships among all human beings and all of creation.
