The aim of this paper is to compare the IS development in the poviats of the podkarpackie voivodship. The synthetic development measures were determined according to: the multiplicative aggregation of indices and the TOPSIS method. Two levels of aggregation and weights determined by the AHP method were used. The values of the indicators were calculated based on the results of surveys carried out in the poviats of the podkarpackie voivodship within MNiSW research project “Determination of intra-regional disparities in the information society development”.

Przedstawiono rozwijaną na terenie kampusu akademickiego AGH eksperymentalną sieć teleinformartyczną, eksploatowaną na potrzeby głównie studentów i pracowników uczelni, rozważanych jako 'mała społeczność informacyjna'. Omówiono zasięg sieci, jej wyposażenie techniczne i informacyjne oraz możliwości użytkowe. Zaprezentowano wyniki obserwacji praktycznego zastosowania sieci oraz plany dalszych badań prowadzonych nad opisywanym eksperymentem.
The paper presents an experimental tele-computer network developed over the area of academic campus of Academy of Mining and Metallurgy. The network is designed to the students and personnel of the Academy, seen as 'small information community'. The range and technical equipment, as well as information resources and utility possibilities are described. Results of observations of practical exploitation and usage and plans of further research concerning the experiment are sketched.

La société de l’information en tant que partie intégrante du processus de modernisa- tion est accompagnée de plusieurs conséquences positives et négatives. L’analyse de ces conséquences permet de mieux connaître l’état de la société contemporaine et de prendre des mesures conduisant à une augmentation de la qualité de vie. Le travail non rémunéré des individus et des ménages auquel on ne prête pas suffisamment d’attention influe sans aucun doute sur la qualité de notre vie et est étroitement lié à la société de l’information. Pourtant, quelques études confirment que malgré l’évolution des économies nationales et l’influence des technologies d’information et de communication, le travail non rémunéré ne varie pas de façon significative et que son volume reste important. Jusqu’à présent, les auteurs n’ont pas identifié l’impact de la société de l’information sur l’étendue, les formes ou les déterminants de ce type de travail comme purement positif ou négatif. Dans notre communication, nous cherchons à approfondir la discussion concernant l’influence de la société de l’information sur l’évolution du travail non rémunéré, en nous nous appuyant sur les résultats de notre propre recherche

Omówiono światowe przemiany cywilizacyjne wynikające z rozwoju i zastosowań wysokiej techniki oraz strategiczne inicjatywy z tymi przemianami związane. Zidentyfikowano megatrendy, jakie ukształtowały się w ostatnich kilku dziesięcioleciach i ich już obserwowane lub przewidywane implikacje. Postulowano potrzebę wypracowania i wdrożenia strategii kształtowania społeczeństwa informacyjnego w Polsce, formułując jej główne elementy: odpowiednie kształcenie, poszerzenie implementacji technik społeczeństwa informacyjnego, poszukiwanie specjalizacji narodowej, włączanie się w światowe programy rozwojowe.
The paper discusses global civilization changes resulting from development and applications of high technology and strategic initiatives related to these changes. Megatrends that emerged during last decades are identified and their observed and anticipated implications are described. The need of preparing and implementing a strategy for building the information society in Poland is discussed. Main features of such a strategy are formulated such as appropriate education, a broader implementation of information society technology, search for a national specialization, participation in strategic initiatives of developed world.

The task of this paper is to provide a theoretically and empirically grounded discussion on a sustainable information society. Its purpose is to show the road that lies ahead for researchers in a sustainable information society. Firstly, this paper introduces sustainability as a new dimension of an information society as well as provides a definition of a sustainable information society and its conceptual model. Secondly, the framework of critical success factors for a sustainable information society is indicated. The paper concludes with some academic recommendation concerning the development of research on a sustainable information society. This is a conceptual paper based on the results of a critical literature review, action research and case studies, the Delphi study and systems thinking.

Recently, an increasing number of communicative practices are moving to the Internet: the intensity of language use on the Internet is increasing, where a special communicative environment, a special communicative space arises. A special area of research devoted to the study of the linguistics of the Internet is also emerging. Therefore, consideration of the term “Internet communication” should begin with the characteristics of the place in which this type of communication once appeared and is now actively functioning. The Internet is a worldwide system of interconnected computer networks for storing and transmitting information. Often referred to as the World Wide Web and the Global Network, as well as simply the Network. The main areas of use of the Internet are media, e-business, multimedia, communication, communication, etc. This definition primarily emphasizes the technological component of the Network. However, as part of our study, it is worth considering more “humanitarian” definitions. For example, researchers consider the Internet from the point of view of socio-philosophical positions, as a special phenomenon based on network principles of information exchange, “the interactivity of communication interactions, new ways of modeling objective reality, new technologies for transmitting information flows and a fundamentally new technology – personal computers”. Scientists consider the Internet through the prism of the sociology of communications, emphasizing that the Network represents “a man-made, informational and socio-psychoanthropological component of a person’s life context.” According to them, the Internet as a means of social communication reveals such binary properties as “activity / passivity of the social subject of the information world; the fragmentation/harmony of human social existence in the information society and the inconsistency/consistency of the content of social influence in the information world”. Business English, business discourse, and political discourse are interconnected in various ways, primarily because they all involve communication strategies aimed at achieving specific goals within their respective contexts.

Recently we have been witnesses to the creation of information society. Knowledge is becoming the most important value of the contemporary civilization. Scientific Information Centres and libraries equip their collections with new carriers of information. The changes observed in libraries in recent years have resulted in the development of information search skills of library users. The advancement of IT gave the users new possibilities of information gaining. The most important task of NDU’s Library – beyond the traditional duties connected with gathering, preparation and providing sources of information – is the assurance of direct network access to information through systems and computer networks. The development of Information Technology is still giving new information retrieval possibilities which allow fast searching of the library computer catalogues gathering information about the collection. It also results in easier access to the resources of the Internet as well as access to source and factual information at the great speed.

Information society services are rendered in cyberspace, which is a vulnerable domain. The development of information technologies to provide digital services should be coupled with adequate protection. Considering the above, providing information society services must be accompanied by cybersecurity. A suitable level of cybersecurity of the teleinformation systems used to provide services should ensure their proper operation and reduce vulnerabilities.

This paper focuses on the situation of older people in the information society. In the theoretical part of article phenomena of aging population and information society were described. This paper includes results of research conducted in qualitative strategy. The method of collecting data was biographical method. The method for data processing was  qualitative content analysis. In the research 2 older, educationally active people took part. Results of research shows how older people understand the information society and what risk and opportunities they notice in this new reality. Narratives of the respondents indicated that education is of crucial importance for participation in the information society. Older people who take part in lifelong learning cope better with the new reality than people who do not learn. Based on the research results we can point out areas of education which should be development. Moreover, it is visible that educational activity of older people is very important  in adaptation to the information society. Narratives of seniors indicate reasons for the lack of educational activity of other seniors. Objectives: Compare selected concepts of information warfare and show the evolution of the Western concept of WI,resulting from the development of the information society, social-media and the resources by which information warfare is conducted. Methods: The research method used is a systematic review of Western political science literature, as well as military literature, publications on international relations, international politics, security and cyber security from the perspective of information warfare. Techniques such as analysis of background material, causal analysis and scientific and self-observation in this area were used, taking into account the dynamics of technological and geopolitical changes occurring in the modern information society. Results: The analysis made it possible to show the evolution of the Western concept of information warfare and outline the main differences from the concept of information warfare adopted by the Russian Federation. The study also points out the threats to the information society posed by the realities of modern information warfare. Conclusions: The Western conception of WI differs from that of the Russian Federation, placing the emphasis on WI as technological warfare, while the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China (PRC) place the emphasis on psychological warfare first. This discrepancy could pose a significant threat to the information environment of Western democracies, since the weakest link in the security of not only an information system, but also an information system, is the human being. This is well known not only to hackers, cyber criminals, but also to hostile state or non-state forces that conduct WI against Western countries.

This paper focuses on essence and relationships between information society (IS) and knowledge economy (KE) concepts. The aim of this article is twofold. The first objective is to denominate the conceptual framework and relationships between IS and KE conceptions. The second is to present dependencies between the indexes of IS and KE development level in selected countries. Firstly, based on the notional relations between information and knowledge, there are characterized the relationships between concepts of information society, knowledge economy and knowledge society (KS). Secondly, using popular composite indexes evaluating the degree of IS and KE development i.e. Networked Readiness Index (NRI), ICT Development Index (IDI), Knowledge Economy Index (KEI) and Summary Innovation Index (SII), there were studied corelations between information society and knowledge economy in 34 selected countries in 2012. The paper concludes by stating limits and implications for further research. This work contributes to systematization and integration of knowledge about the mutually permeable conceptions of information society and knowledge economy.

This paper focuses on the measurement of information society. The aim of this paper is twofold. The first objective is to present a coherent picture of measurement methods for information society. The second aim of the paper is to show measurement findings of information society in selected countries – especially Poland. First, the paper presents available methods of information society measurement and a core set of internationally agreed information society indicators. Second, the measurement of information society was performed with the application of three methods – measuring the influence of ICT on GDP, measuring the ICT Development Index and measuring the Networked Readiness Index. Finally, a discussion was undertaken in order to establish a framework for the development of information society’s quantitative measurement methods.

Głównym celem niniejszego opracowania jest analiza poziomu rozwoju społeczeństwa informacyjnego Litwy. Na początku pracy przedstawiono metodologię badań, opartą o przegląd pewnych miar, używanych do oceny poziomu rozwoju społeczeństwa informacyjnego. Następnie przedstawiono aktualną strategię rozwoju społeczeństwa informacyjnego Litwy na lata 2014–2020. W części empirycznej omówiono najważniejsze kierunki rozwoju i wskaźniki wdrażania danej strategii. Na podstawie danych z międzynarodowych raportów, dotyczących elektronicznej gospodarki, przeprowadzono analizę porównawczą pozycji Litwy na tle państw świata i UE.
The main objective of this study is to analyze the level of development of the information society in Lithuania. The research methodology, based on a review of certain measures used to assess the level of development of the information society, is presented at the beginning of the paper. Then thecurrent information society development strategy of Lithuania for 2014–2020 is presented. The empirical section discusses the key trends and indicators of the implementation of this strategy. Based on data from international reports on ecommerce, a comparative analysis of Lithuania's posi-tion compared to other countries of the world and the EU was carried out.

W artykule zaprezentowano sposób, w jaki na Wydziale Nauk Ekonomicznych i Zarządzania Uniwersytetu Szczecińskiego przybliża się studentom problemy społeczeństwa informacyjnego. Wymieniono szereg obszarów zgłębianych podczas nauczanych przedmiotów. Poruszono zagadnienia techniczne, ekonomiczne i społeczne, omawiając je z perspektywy pojedynczego człowieka oraz z punktu widzenia zbiorowości. Przedstawiono ponadto zarys projektów realizowanych przez studentów podczas zajęć laboratoryjnych z przedmiotu „Problemy społeczeństwa informacyjnego”. Wskazano punkt ciężkości, główne idee oraz schemat projektów. Rozważania poparto wnioskami płynącymi z obserwacji prac studentów wykonanych na przestrzeni kilku ostatnich lat. Artykuł kończy konkluzja na temat konkursów propagujących rozwiązywanie problemów społeczeństwa informacyjnego.
The paper presents how the Department of Economics and Management, Szczecin University makes students familiar with the problems of the information society. A number of areas discussed in the taught subjects were identified in that article. Technical issues, economic and social were described, discussing it with the perspective of the individual human being and in terms of population. Moreover we have presented an outline of projects undertaken by students in the classroom lab with the subject Problems of the Information Society. Focus, the main ideas, and schedule of projects were presented. Considerations were supported with the conclusions from the observation of student work done over the last few years. The article was ended with the conclusion of the competitions that promote solving the problems of the information society.

Nowadays, the vast majority of the threats to our security come from cyberspace, resulting in a significant transformation of national security systems. Behind these changes, we can find some organisational and capability responses to technological developments, seeing that the function of national security is inseparable from the social environment and its processes. The study examines certain impacts of cyberspace on national security as a system, addressing some features of the changing external environment. The topic is related to the research on the relationship between the information society and security in the 21st century. Therefore, the study explores some processes visible at the international level and reviews some external environment trends in connection with national security. The changes affect the future of national security thinking and the development of principles and methods. It is the task of national security services operating under strict legislation to respond effectively to various threats in a changing environment. All this is only possible through the continuous monitoring of changes in the environment and long-term strategic thinking.

This article is an attempt to outline a new meaning in today’s information world. The spectacular rise of information and communication technologies in recent years, changing the way of modern society. Today we are witnessing a historical transformation, where the industrial society is changing into information society. The strength of today is information. It is not dependent either on geographical conditions or other similar features. The success of society depends on the ability to successfully create, manage and gather information. Information is the main value in the world.

Opis:
Fast changes in information technology and information society generate new ideas and concept. Some of them are very important, but lifetime of others is rather short. So, the question arises: which of them are basic, which are useful and which are only temporary? Classical education in computer science and main factors of information society development is the starting point of our considerations. Typically, in classical education, we consider algorithms and their complexity, data structures, programming languages, local networks, and so on. On the other hand we have global business processes, global economy and multinational global organisations. Computer integrated activities, cooperative information systems, and virtual organisations must be described in new terms. As basic concepts we consider infons and situations. They play similar role in formalisation of information as sets and their elements in mathematics. In the future education a special attention must be paid to digital resources and their descriptions, cooperative work, business processes, Web services and document management.

Civilization changes related to the development of information and communication technologies require the formation of new competences in the society, the possession of which will determine the quality of life in the digital world and rational participation in cyberculture. The implementation of this task becomes the special responsibility of educational institutions that aim at stimulating the growth of interests of children and youth in the areas of knowledge crucial for the development of the information society. It is extremely important to take actions supporting the development of logical and mathematical intelligence and digital competences. Their possession is of key importance for the conscious, rational and creative use of new technical possibilities. One of the important initiatives supporting this task is the organization of classes within children’s universities. The article describes the projects undertaken at the Children’s University of the Humanitas University in Sosnowiec. Their main goal is to provide conditions for facilitating the development of interest in science, through its popularization. The main assumption is to implement the idea of active learning in the digital environment. Through experiencing and experimenting with the use of information technology methods and means, children and adolescents can develop competences necessary for efficient functioning in the information society.
