Opis:: Abstract A hydrodynamics + hadronic rescattering model is used to simulate Au+Au collisions at 200 GeV and a Cooper-Frye method is adopted for hadronization. The effect of hadronic rescattering on elliptic flow V2 in 20 40% Au+Au collisions at 200 GeV has been investigated. It is found that the hadronic rescattering can suppress elliptic flow V2 and makes an asymmetric system in momentum space tend to be less anisotropic. The suppression effect becomes weak with increasing transverse momentum. In addition, the effect of hadronic rescattering on transverse momentum spectra and anisotropy of hadronic coordinate space is presented.

Opis:: We present the preliminary results on direct photon interferometry measurements in Au+Au collisions at square root sNN = 62.4 GeV and 200 GeV using the STAR (solenoidal tracker at RHIC) detector. Photons are reconstructed via e+/e- conversions in STAR Time Projection Chamber (TPC) and energy deposited by photons in STAR Barrel Electromagnetic Calorimeter (BEMC). The two-photon correlations are measured using (1) both photons measured with BEMC; (2) one photon from conversions and the other measured with BEMC. Both the methodologies and the possible constraints in the correlation function measurements are discussed.

Opis:: Carrier dynamics in high-quality GaN epilayer was investigated at two extreme excitation levels. Carrier lifetime under high excitation conditions was estimated by using light-induced transient grating technique. Measurements at extremely low excitation power density were performed by using frequency-domain fluorescence lifetime technique. The study was performed in a wide temperature range from 8 to 300 K. The results revealed the influence of donor-acceptor pair recombination and carrier trapping processes.

Opis:: Little was known about biological activities of compounds from the medicinal mushroom of the genus Pholiota. A lectin from the Pholiota adiposa has now been isolated and its properties tested. The isolation procedure included ion exchange chromatography on DEAE-cellulose and CM-cellulose, and fast protein liquid chromatography-gel filtration (FPLC) on Superdex 75. The lectin was composed of two identical subunits, each with a molecular mass of 16 kDa. Its N-terminal amino-acid sequence showed little similarity to sequences of other Agaricales lectins. The hemagglutinating activity of the lectin was stable at temperatures up to 50°C, and in NaOH and HCl solutions with concentrations less than 25 mM. It was inhibited by inulin (12.5-200 mM), but enhanced by Cu2+ (6.25-25 mM), Fe2+ (12.5-25 mM), and Al3+ (6.25-25 mM) ions. The lectin showed antiproliferative activity toward hepatoma Hep G2 cells and breast cancer MCF7 cells with an IC50 of 2.1 µM and approximately 3.2 µM, respectively. It exhibited HIV-1 reverse transcriptase inhibitory activity with an IC50 of 1.9 µM. When compared with P. aurivella lectin, the only Pholiota lectin published to date, P. adiposa lectin differs in chromatographic behavior, molecular mass, N-terminal sequence, and effect of cations on hemagglutinating activity. In the case of the lectin from P. aurivella, its antifungal, antiproliferative, and HIV-1 reverse transcriptase inhibitory activities have not been determined.

Opis:: A novel type of coaxial vircator with 3 anodes is proposed. The advantages on high power microwave generation is tested by particle-in-cell simulation and theoretical analysis model is set up as well. The tri-anode coaxial vircator behaves a very stable frequency in the pulse duration. In the tri-anode coaxial vircator, the injecting electron beam is well premodulated in the first anode cavity and forms an inerratic bunch-dispersion mechanism in the second anode cavity; the energy-loss electrons penetrate through the third anode and absorbed by the dumping cavity locates in the centre electrode, which helps keeping the bunch-dispersion cycle undisturbed. A 3.8 GHz tri-anode coaxial vircator is theoretically designed and optimized by particle-in-cell simulation, which gives beam-wave conversion efficiency of over 20% with a stable predominant frequency, in accordance with the particle-in-cell simulation and analytic model.

Opis:: With the aim of studying the characteristics of laser-triggered surface flashover in voltage pulse, synchronization problem of laser pulse and voltage pulse should be solved. A single/double harmonic, with wavelength λ of 1064/532 nm, Q-switched Nd:YAG laser is used to trigger the surface flashover. The synchronization problem is solved using a self-made digital delay/pulse generator. The delay time and jitter of Marx's trigger input and output, Marx's trigger output and Marx's output, laser input and output are respectively measured. Based on the result of the delay time and the timing sequence of the laser triggering system, the synchronization of laser pulse and voltage pulse is obtained through adjusting the channel delay time of digital delay/pulse generator. In addition, introductory experiment of laser-triggered surface flashover is carried out using the flat electrodes and columned insulators.

Opis:: Energy levels and oscillator strengths have been calculated for the fine-structure transitions among the levels of the $(1s^2) 2s^2 2 p^2,$ $2s2 p^3,$ $2p^4,$ $2s^2 2p3s,$ $2s^2 2p3p,$ and $2s^2 2p3d$ configurations of Ni XXIII using the graspVU and FAC program. The extensive configuration interaction and relativistic effects have been included while generating the wave functions. The results are compared with other recent theoretical estimates, and their accuracy is assessed.

Opis:: An updated reconstruction of the body plan, functional morphology and lifestyle of the arthropod Isoxys curvirostratusis proposed, based on new fossil specimens with preserved soft anatomy found in several localities of the Lower Cambrian Chengjiang Lagerstätte. The animal was 2–4 cm long and mostly encased in a single carapace which is folded dorsally without an articulated hinge. The attachment of the body to the exoskeleton was probably cephalic and apparently lacked any well−developed adductor muscle system. Large stalked eyes with the eye sphere consisting of two layers (as corneal and rhabdomeric structures) protrude beyond the anterior margin of the carapace. This feature, together with a pair of frontal appendages with five podomeres that each bear a stout spiny outgrowth, suggests it was raptorial. The following 14 pairs of limbs are biramous and uniform in shape. The slim endopod is composed of more than 7 podomeres without terminal claw and the paddle shaped exopod is fringed with at least 17 imbricated gill lamellae along its posterior margin. The design of exopod in association with the inner vascular (respiratory) surface of the carapace indicates I. curvirostratus was an active swimmer. Morphological comparisons demonstrate that species of Isoxys were diverse in feeding habits and occupied a very broad morphospace, i.e., carapace bivalved or a single shield, the pre−oral limbs antenniform or modified into great appendages, the succeeding endopods slim or stout. This casts doubt on the current taxonomy that assigns all species to a single genus, and on any presumed lifestyle of Isoxys extrapolated to the generic level. Finally, since I. curvirostratus and I. acutangulus carry a pair of great appendages, Isoxys has recently been placed into the great appendage arthropods. Such placement might be inadequate because the homology of the great appendages can not be established.

Opis:: We describe a new avian taxon (Sanshuiornis zhangi gen. et sp. nov.) from Middle Eocene black oil shales in the Huayong Formation of Guangdong Province, south China. The specimen consists of a distal tibiotarsus and a complete foot with tarsometatarsus and pedal digits in articulation. A preliminary phylogenetic analysis does not resolve the affinities of the fossil, but the bones show resemblances to some “ciconiiform” birds. The peculiar hypotarsus morphology, which is block−like and exhibits four cristae, resembles that of the early Eocene Rhynchaeites, which is a stem group representative of the Threskiornithidae. The new Chinese fossil has, however, proportionally longer legs than Rhynchaeites and its phylogenetic affinities probably cannot be resolved without further material.

Opis:: As a key research objective for low melting explosives and propellants, energetic salts have received worldwide attention. 3-Hydrazino-4-amino-1,2,4triazole (HATr) is an important high-nitrogen compound (73.65% N) with good stability. This paper focuses on the energetic salts which were formed between HATr and picric acid (PA) or 2,4,6-trinitroresorcinol (TNR). Single crystals of HATr·PA and HATr·TNR·H2O were grown and their crystal structures determined at low temperature. They both belong to the monoclinic system, P21/n space group. The thermal characteristics of the two target salts were investigated using DSC and TG-DTG. In addition, the non-isothermal decomposition kinetics, heats of combustion and sensitivity have also been investigated. The detonation pressures (P) and detonation velocities (D) of the salts have been calculated using the K-J equations. The results indicated that both salts have certain potential applications as gunpowder and propellant materials.
