    Opis:
    Leszek Kołakowski draws attention to the fact that rationalism as a philosophical method and definitive certainty as the aim are mutually irreconcilable. Each rationalist philosophy must leave a margin for uncertainty, lest it transforms into dull dogmatism. This observation of the Polish thinker becomes a source of inspiration for Hans Albert. In his work “Science and the Search for Truth”, he agrees with Kołakowski that goals of philosophical endeavours need redefining and puts forward his own metaphilosophical proposal, which specifies what philosophy can and should achieve in the framework of critical realism. The author examines and evaluates Albert’s proposal, referring to another view of the nature and role of philosophy as the assessment criterion-the one presented by José Ortega y Gasset in his study “En torno à Galileo” [“About Galileo”] and other writings.

    Europa, chcąc nie chcąc, musi zmierzyć się dziś z problemem stosunku do obcych. Nie wystarczą tymczasowe rozwiązania, nie pomoże uszczelnianie granic i budowanie obozów dla uchodźców. Potrzebne jest gruntowne przemyślenie tematu. W tym celu warto sięgnąć po inspiracje do filozofii. Takich inspiracji autor poszukuje na drodze krytycznej lektury tekstów Martina Bubera, Ferdinanda Ebnera, Franza Rosenzweiga, Emmanuela Lévinasa, Józefa Tischnera i Marcii Sá Cavalcante Schuback. Wynika z nich potrzeba rozumienia kategorii obcości jako zrelatywizowanej do określonej wspólnoty kulturowej oraz ustosunkowania się do następujących problemów: (1) czy obcość jest cechą nieredukowalną i nieusuwalną, czy stanem tymczasowym i możliwym do przezwyciężenia; (2) które elementy europejskiej tradycji kulturowej wymagają przezwyciężenia, byśmy mogli skutecznie uporać się z tym problemem; (3) czy filozofia europejska potrafiła wyciągnąć trafne wnioski z tragicznych wydarzeń wojen, totalitaryzmu i ludobójstwa; (4) czy rację ma Lévinas, głosząc potrzebę nowego ugruntowania relacji etycznych dzięki myśleniu „poza filozofią”, zakładającemu „ontologiczne zerwanie” na rzecz swoiście rozumianego „désintéressement”. Autor poszukuje własnych odpowiedzi na te pytania, by lepiej zrozumieć współczesny status fenomenu obcości.
    Whether it be desired or not, Europe must face today the problem of her relation to ‘others.’ Temporary solutions will not suffice, neither will tightening the borders or founding refugee camps. A thorough and profound reconsideration of the issue is necessary, which calls for seeking inspiration in philosophy. The inspiration in question is found by the author in a critical reading of Martin Buber, Ferdinand Ebner, Franz Rosenzweig, Emmanuel Lévinas, Józef Tischner, and Marcia Sá Cavalcante Schuback. As a result, the author proposes to conceive of the category of ‘otherness’ as relativized to the conditions of a given community of culture, and points to the necessity of taking a clear position on issues such as: (1) whether ‘otherness’ is irreducible and irremovable a trait, or rather a temporary condition that may be overcome; (2) which elements of European culture tradition need to be overcome so that the problem in question may be effectively addressed; (3) whether European philosophy has come to the right conclusions about the tragic events, such as the wars, totalitarianisms and genocide, it has experienced; (4) whether Lévinas is right in pointing to the need for a new ‘grounding’ of ethical relations by means of thinking ‘outside philosophy,’ which presupposes an ‘ontological rupture’ for the sake of a specific désintéressement. The author seeks his own answers to the above questions so that the present status of the phenomenon of ‘otherness’ may be understood better. Translated by Dorota Chabrajska

    The paper offers a tentative analysis of some possible forms of the experience of world fading and impermanence of one’s existence as contemporary agent, immersed in world of everyday life. The starting point of the analysis is Jan Patočka’s model of “the natural man”. The author of the paper modifies it to make is suitable for description of civilization of the 21st-century human whose “natural world” is much more dense, more saturated with both technological artefacts and information, which he or she is able to assimilate only partially. The author claims that a man living in the environment suffused with items and information, spontaneously generates a strategy of evading important problems of life, and if it fails, found themself hopeless and lost. In some cases this feelings are generated by unexpected confrontation of their self-consciousness with the experience of inevitable fading, when - as Patočka rightly observes - the agent faces “spiritual shock”. The author outlines some of the consequences of this shock in the last part of the paper.

    An important trend in Tischner’s philosophical output was the observation of the phenomena that would occur in the current social life of Poles. The trend gained particular significance at the turn of the 1970s and the 1980s, when the processes that finally led to the systemic transformation began. During this period, Tischner made a successful attempt to reconstruct the Polish social ethos. It turned out that its integral element is the presence of utopian projects to rebuild the social order in the country. Tischner stated in his analyses that these utopias play a constructive role in the social life because they motivate people to engage in the political struggle for deep system reforms. The article presents the content of Tischner’s reconstruction of Polish utopias from the 1970s and the 1980s and the correlation between social ethics, ideological discussions, and political practice of the declining period of the Polish People’s Republic.
    Ważnym nurtem w dorobku filozoficznym Tischnera była obserwacja zjawisk występujących w bieżącym życiu społecznym Polaków. Nurt ten nabrał szczególnego znaczenia na przełomie lat siedemdziesiątych i osiemdziesiątych XX wieku, gdy rozpoczęły się procesy, które finalnie doprowadziły do transformacji ustrojowej. W tym okresie Tischner podjął udaną próbę zrekonstruowania polskiego ethosu społecznego. Okazało się, że jego integralnym elementem jest obecność utopijnych projektów przebudowy ładu społecznego w kraju. Tischner stwierdził w swych analizach, że utopie te pełnią konstruktywną rolę w życiu społecznym, ponieważ dostarczają ludziom motywacji do zaangażowania w polityczną walkę o głębokie reformy ustrojowe. Artykuł prezentuje treść Tischnerowskiej rekonstrukcji polskich utopii z lat 70./80. oraz korelację między etyką społeczną, dyskusjami światopoglądowymi oraz praktyką polityczną schyłkowego okresu PRL.

    Robots are becoming part of people’s everyday surroundings. Therefore, the formation and change of people’s attitude towards objects equipped with artificial intelligence is becoming an important subject of reflection. Substantial research has already been conducted, but few predictions have been made about the future relationship between humanity and autonomous, multi-tasking and highly advanced artificial intelligence. The purpose of this article is an attempt at extrapolating the evolution of the human-robot bond so far, from alienation and a sense of threat toward tameness, affection and even―perhaps―friendship. The study of the evolution of the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence makes it also possible to deepen our understanding of who human beings are, what their needs, expectations, and hopes are, and which of them can be realized through close cooperation between humans and artificial intelligence.
    Roboty stają się częścią codziennego otoczenia człowieka. Dlatego ważnym przedmiotem refleksji staje się kształtowanie i zmiana stosunku ludzi do obiektów wyposażonych w sztuczną inteligencję. Przeprowadzono już wiele badań, lecz nieliczne są prognozy dotyczące przyszłych relacji między ludzkością a autonomiczną, wielozadaniową i wysoko zaawansowaną sztuczną inteligencją. Celem artykułu jest próba ekstrapolacji dotychczasowej ewolucji więzi człowiek – robot, od obcości i poczucia zagrożenia w stronę oswojenia, sympatii, a nawet – być może przyjaźni. Badanie ewolucji stosunku człowieka do sztucznej inteligencji pozwala również pogłębić wiedzę o tym, kim jest istota ludzka, jakie są jej potrzeby, oczekiwania i nadzieje oraz które z nich mogą zostać zrealizowane dzięki bliskiej współpracy między człowiekiem a sztuczną inteligencją.
