    This article contains a report from the meeting of the Team for Educational Theory at the Committee for Pedagogical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences which was held in Cracow (Jagiellonian University) on December 13, 2014. The purposes of the meeting were to (1) discuss the condition of the educational theory within Polish educational studies; (2) identify problems connected therewith and to (3) plan some future activities of the Team for Educational Theory. The aforementioned issues were mostly related to the semantic status of the educational theory, its relations to other kinds of educational studies and some practical challenges which require solving in the nearest future. The next meeting of the group is planned to take place in the middle of 2015.

    Opis:
    Wisdom might be, and quite often is, one of the most important purposes of education. At the same time, there is no clarity about the its meaning and relations to education. The goal of the article is to analyse the issue of wisdom as an educational goal, based on the classical meaning of the term ‘wisdom’ (Socrates, Plato, Aristotle), which still constitutes a paradigm in philosophical and educational considerations. The article is divided into three parts. Firstly, the theoretical and semantic aspects of wisdom are indicated. Secondly, practical possibilities of application of the idea of wisdom as an aim of education are discussed. At the end, the author points out the philosophical and semantic problems which make this idea hard to apply.

    The author presents and analyses the issue of the interrelationship between philosophy and pedagogy. He shows the areas of connections which have already been indicated and the ones which have not been clearly indicated yet. These areas are as follows: the genetic-historic area, the institutional-structural area, evaluation, ethical and metaethical issues and others. For each of those areas there is argumentation underlying the relationship between the two mentioned disciplines. In conclusion, the author presents general characteristics of that relationship.

    The purpose of this paper is to provide grounds for the thesis on close relations between pedagogy and ethics. These relations can be both accidental and necessary in their form, however, the latter are definitely more significant in terms of implications for the pedagogy as a discipline. This is because pedagogy can be considered as (practical) ethics. The thesis will be supported by reference to both practical and strictly philosophical arguments. The final part of the paper will show the consequences of this specific identification of the aforementioned relations for pedagogy as a discipline.

    This work presents an automatic system for generating kidney boundaries in computed tomography (CT) images. This paper presents the main points of medical image processing, which are the parts of the developed system. The U-Net network was used for image segmentation, which is now widely used as a standard solution for many medical image processing tasks. An innovative solution for framing the input data has been implemented to improve the quality of the learning data as well as to reduce the size of the data. Precision-recall analysis was performed to calculate the optimal image threshold value. To eliminate false-positive errors, which are a common issue in segmentation based on neural networks, the volumetric analysis of coherent areas was applied. The developed system facilitates a fully automatic generation of kidney boundaries as well as the generation of a three-dimensional kidney model. The system can be helpful for people who deal with the analysis of medical images, medical specialists in medical centers, especially for those who perform the descriptions of CT examination. The system works fully automatically and can help to increase the accuracy of the performed medical diagnosis and reduce the time of preparing medical descriptions.

    This article is an attempt to answer the question about scientific status of pedagogy; is it only empirical or empirical and normative discipline? The answer to that question is, at the same time, the answer to the question about relations between pedagogy and philosophy. I argue (using a few argument strategies) that pedagogy is an empirical and normative science; it means that there is no pedagogy without philosophy.

    W artykule została dokonana analiza problematyki uzasadniania prawa do równości w edukacji (rozumiane jako prawo do równości do bycia edukowanym). Prezentowane analizy dotyczą wybranych kwestii związanych z tym zagadnieniem, takich jak: problem relacyjności i normatywności pojęcia równości i prawa do edukacji; problem możliwości uzasadnienia prawa do równości w edukacji; uzasadnienie wspomnianego prawa w ustawodawstwie polskim i międzynarodowym. Zaznacza się również wybrane kwestie historyczne (tj. próby uzasadnienia prawa do równości w edukacji na gruncie szeroko rozumianej myśli filozoficznej) i praktyczne (tj. bariery w jego realizacji).
    In the article the analysis of the issues of justification of the right for equality in education has been presented (understood as the right for equality in being educated). Presented analyses refer to some issues related to this topic, such as the problem of relational and normative notions of equality and the right for education; the problem of the possibility of justifying the right for equality in education; justification of that law in the Polish and international legislation. Selected historical issues (i.e. attempts to justify the right for equality in education on the basis of the broader philosophical thoughts) and practical issues (i.e. the barriers in its implementation) have been also emphasized.
