    It was found that the average carcass weight in the group of stags, does and fawns harvested during the hunting seasons of 1993/1994 to 2003/2004 was 46.46 kg, 33.66 kg and 21.22 kg, respectively. Zoometric measurements provided the basis for developing a sika deer profile. In the case of the average stag they were as follows: carcass weight – 47.37 kg, carcass length – 108.77 cm, height at sacrum – 87.05 cm, height at withers – 81.18, chest girth – 91.95 cm, while in that of the average doe: 34.46 cm, 134.96 cm, 71.83 cm, 79.13 cm and 85.09 cm, respectively. During the last ten hunting seasons the average weight of antlers was about 1.2 kg, and eight−point stags dominated in the population analyzed (approx. 50%).

    Introduction. The Vipera berus (common viper) is the only species of venomous snake found in Poland. The aim of this study was to determine to what extent coagulopathy has occurred as a post-bite complication. Materials and method. The medical records of 138 adult patients in the Sucha Beskidzka hospital with the diagnosis of snake bite between 2001–2014 were retrospectively analyzed. Demographic, clinical and laboratory data were collected. Antivenom was given to all patients, except one, with snake bites, but laboratory test were taken prior to administration of antivenom. Obtained results were compared to those of the control group, composed of 176 adults hospitalized in the same period for an elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Results. The mean platelet count in the study group was 239.94×109/L (SD=56.56) and 248.77×109/L (SD=57.82) in the control group. In 98% of the study group and 100% of the control group the platelet value (PLT) fell within laboratory norms (130 to 420×109/L), 2 patients after snake bites had a PLT lower than normal, and thrombocytosis was not observed in either group. A reference range of 0.85–1.3 INR below normal was found in 2 patients in the study group and 15 from the control group, while values above the normal range were found in 8 patients (6.7%) from the snake bite group and no patients from the control group. In the study group, the INR ranged from 0.78–1.43 with a mean of 1.046 (SD=0.14), while in the control group the range was from 0.79–1.28, with a mean of 0.95 (SD=0.08). There was a significant difference in INR between the study and control groups (p<0.0001). Conclusions. The bite from V. berus does not result in severe thrombocytopenia, with only a moderate increase in INR values observed in about 7% of patients.

    We report on fabrication of hybrid inorganic-on-organic thin film structures with polycrystalline zinc oxide films grown by atomic layer deposition technique. ZnO films were deposited on two kinds of thin organic films, i.e. pentacene and poly(dimethylosiloxane) elastomer with a carbon nanotube content (PDMS:CNT). Surface morphology as well as electrical measurements of the films and devices were analyzed. The current density versus voltage (I-V) characteristics of ITO/pentacene/ZnO/Au structure show a low-voltage switching phenomenon typical of organic memory elements. The I-V studies of ITO/PDMS:CNT/ZnO/Au structure indicate some charging effects in the system under applied voltages.

    ZnO thin films were grown by atomic layer deposition method at extremely low temperature using a reactive diethylzinc as a zinc precursor. Optical properties, electrical properties and surface morphology were examined by photoluminescence, Hall effect and atomic force microscope. The study shows correlation between optical, electrical properties and surface morphology in a series of samples of different thickness.

    In this paper we report on ZnCoO thin films grown by atomic layer deposition method in reactor F-120 Satellite. ZnCoO films were grown at low temperature ($T_s$=160°C) with a new zinc precursor (dimethylzinc - DMZn) and with cobalt (II) acetyloacetonate (Co(acac)₂) as a cobalt precursor and deionized water as an oxygen precursor. In this paper we concentrate on the methods of homogenizing Co distribution in ZnCoO films.

    Optical and magnetic properties of ZnMnO films are discussed based on the results of cathodoluminescence, photoluminescence, and magneto-photoluminescence investigations. We show that photoluminescence/cathodoluminescence emissions are strongly quenched and become in-plane inhomogeneous in samples with increased Mn fractions. Strong polarization of photoluminescence is observed, even though excitonic lines do not shift and are not split at magnetic fields up to 6 T.

    Współczesne kable i przewody kolejowe muszą zapewniać wieloletnią bezawaryjną pracę (ok. 20 lat). Większość największych operatorów kolejowych wymaga, aby współczesne kable gwarantowały możliwie niski poziom "całkowitego ryzyka pożarowego" (Total Fire Hazard). W celu spełnienia tych wymagań, materiały izolacyjne nie mogą zawierać halogenów, ani rozprzestrzeniać ognia: muszą także gwarantować bardzo niską emisję dymu i substancji drażniących, toksycznych i powodujących korozję. Osobna grupa wymagań dotyczy ograniczenia masy i średnic kabli oraz dużej elastyczności z uwagi na coraz mniejszą ilość miejsca do ich instalacji. I wreszcie, w niektórych aplikacjach, jest wymagane bardzo efektywne ekranowanie.

    Three lower Cambrian acritarch assemblages recognized in four outcrops in the vicinity of Kotuszów in the southernmost part of the Palaeozoic inlier of the Holy Cross Mountains span a stratigraphic interval from the uppermost part of the Asteridium tornatum–Comasphaeridium velvetum Assemblage Zone to the Skiagia ornata–Fimbriaglomerella membranacea Assemblage Zone (most probably its lower part). According to current views (Moczydłowska and Yin 2012), this interval corresponds to the upper part of the Fortunian and to Stage 2 of the Terreneuvian Series. The strata yielding the oldest assemblage are thus the oldest precisely documented rocks in the Palaeozoic succession of the Holy Cross Mountains, and the oldest Cambrian rocks exposed on the surface in Poland. The current biostratigraphic scheme for the pre-trilobitic part of the Cambrian System in the Holy Cross Mountains should be modified so that it is based on local acritarch interval subzones.

    W pracy zbadano wpływ skali eksperymentu na wyniki testu cylindrycznego służącego do wyznaczania zdolności miotających materiałów wybuchowych. Do badań wytypowano materiały wybuchowe stosowane w amunicji (trotyl, heksogen) oraz materiały o przeznaczeniu cywilnym (amonale). Stosowano rurki miedziane o różnej średnicy i grubości ścianki. Wyciągnięto wnioski odnośnie do celowości zwiększania lub zmniejszania skali w teście cylindrycznym.
    In the work, influence of a scale of experiment on the results of cylindrical test used to determine the acceleration capabilities of explosives was analyzed. Explosives used in ammunition (TNT, hexogen) and explosives for civil purpose (ammonals) were selected for testing. Copper tubes with different diameters and wall thickness were used. Conclusions are drawn regarding the advisability of increasing or decreasing the scale of the cylinder test.

    Generally, fruits are characterized by a short-term stability as a result of a fast running ripening process. The main aim of the research was to define the influence of kind of packaging on some physical changes of the bananas during frozen storage. The bananas were stored in Air (P), Vacuum (V) and Atmosphere Modified (MAP) in time three months in –25°C. Kinetics of texture changes was studied on a whole banana fruit and a vertical selection of banana. The texture properties can include several parameters: hardness, adhesiveness, springiness, cohesiveness, gumminess and chewiness. Texture measurements were made using TPA test. The whole banana fruit characterize with decrease such parameters as hardness, adhesiveness, gumminess and chewiness. Vertical selections of banana characterize with decrease such parameters as hardness, gumminess and chewiness. However, the growth of adhesiveness and cohesiveness succeeded. The results indicated that kind of packaging not influence on amplification banana fruits.

    Wysokie zainteresowanie konsumentów nowymi piwami oraz chęć technologów/piwowarów do obniżania kosztów produkcji przyczyniły się do poszukiwania alternatywnych surowców browarniczych. Jednym z nich wydaje się być pszenżyto. Biorąc pod uwagę, że Polska jest głównym dostawcą tego zboża na świecie, postanowiono stworzyć nową procedurę słodowania omawianego ziarna. Odpowiednio dobrane parametry słodowania w połączeniu z doświadczeniem technologa/piwowara mogą zaowocować powstaniem oryginalnego piwa przy niewielkich nakładach finansowych. Aby sprawdzić poprawność parametrów słodowania przeprowadzono szereg badań na gotowym ziarnie słodu pszenżytniego (wilgotność, masa 1000 ziaren, szklistość i celność, siła diastatyczna oraz ekstraktywność). Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników stwierdzono, że opracowana procedura słodowania skutkuje powstaniem słodu o wysokiej użyteczności piwowarskiej.
    High interest in new beers among the customers and the desire of the technologists/brewers to reduce the costs of beer production have contributed to the search for alternative brewing materials. One of them seems to be triticale. Bearing in mind that Poland is the main supplier of triticale in the world and this grain can be purchased cheaper than barley, it was decided to create a malting procedure for the grain. Correctly selected malting parameters combined with the experience of a technologists/brewer can result in the creation of an original beer at a low financial cost. In order to validate the malting parameters, the tests of finished malt (humidity, weight of 1000 graind, vitreousness, extraction, and accuracy, diastatic force, extractivity) were performed. Based on results we conclude that the high quality malt can be obteined according to the presented procedure.

    The paper presents test bench method for verifying the fatigue life of the rotor blades, working in operating conditions in a position steady flight (autorotation), on the aviation construction called the gyroplane. One of the critical elements of this design is the main rotor, which in its modern versions takes the form of advanced composite structures subjected to loads in flight complex variable, the nature of which differs from the well-known operating conditions of helicopter rotors. The article includes a description of the test object, which are composite rotor blades designed specifically to work in autorotation, the specificity of loads of autorotation rotor, and method of implementation of the gyroplane rotor work cycles in the test bench. The main aim of this research is to evaluate the sustainability of the composite blades under the gyroplane operating loads with the goal to allow the rotor to operate in the air. The tests were carried out for 100 hours of gyroplane flight at loads do not exceed the maximum operating loads, and for several hours under a load higher than operating. During test for the evaluation of composite structure, the infrared camera with dedicated software IRNDT was used. The reached showed structural integrity in critical mounting section of the blade.

    W pracy przedstawiono wyniki z badań podstawowego parametru balistycznego stałych paliw rakietowych niejednorodnych, jakim jest liniowa prędkość spalania i jej zależność od ciśnienia. Prędkość wyznaczono na podstawie zarejestrowanych charakterystyk p = f(t) uzyskanych podczas spalania w układzie laboratoryjnego silnika rakietowego ładunków z paliwa o kształcie cylindra z zainhibitowaną boczną powierzchnią zewnętrzną i takich wymiarach, które zapewniały quasi stałe ciśnienie w komorze spalania. Zmianę quasi stałego ciśnienia w komorze spalania uzyskiwano poprzez spalanie ładunków o takim samym kształcie, ale przy stosowaniu dysz różniących się średnicą krytyczną.
    This paper presents the test results for the fundamental ballistic parameter of non-homogeneous solid rocket motors, that is, the linear burning rate and its dependence on pressure. The burning rate was determined in the laboratory rocket motor system on the basis of the recorded characteristic curves p = f(t) obtained during the burning procedure of the propellant cartridges of cylindrical shape with inhibited external lateral surface and the dimensions which provided the quasi constant level in the combustion chamber. The change in the quasi constant pressure in the combustion chamber was obtained by burning the cartridges of the same shape but using nozzles of various critical diameters.

    There have been a number of SO-3 first stage compressor blade failures. An experiment was carried out on a first stage rotor blade in the compressor of an SO-3 engine at the Air Force Institute of Technology in Warsaw. The natural frequencies of rotor blades were measured. Next, the tip-timing measurement of rotor blade was done in an engine working at various speeds. Various operation conditions were assumed, such as the presence of a foreign object in the engine inlet. Structure and flow calculations were carried out to compare the experimental results. An FEM was used to calculate the natural frequencies of a mistuned bladed disk. The FLUENT code was used to calculate the unsteady forces acting on rotor blades. The mistuned bladed disk was forced to vibrate when rotating at 15000 rpm.
    Odnotowano wiele uszkodzeń łopatek wirnikowych pierwszego stopnia sprężarki silnika SO-3. W Instytucie Technicznym Wojsk Lotniczych w Warszawie przeprowadzono cykl eksperymentów na łopatkach wirnikowych pierwszego stopnia sprężarki silnika SO-3. Zmierzono częstotliwości drgań własnych łopatek wirnikowych. Wykonano pomiary przemieszczeń łopatek wirnikowych metodą tip-timing dla różnych prędkości obrotowych wirnika. W trakcie badań uwzględniono także obecność obcego ciała we wlocie silnika. Przeprowadzono obliczenia numeryczne przepływu w pierwszym stopniu sprężarki i drgającej ułopatkowanej tarczy, w celu porównania z wynikami otrzymanymi z badań eksperymentalnych. Metoda elementów skończonych zastosowana została do analizy drgań wymuszonych ułopatkowanej tarczy z łopatkami różniącymi się wymiarami geometrycznymi, dla nominalnej prędkości obrotowej n=15 000 obr./min. Program FLUENT zastosowany został do obliczenia niestacjonarnych sił działających na łopatki wirnikowe.

    Praca dotyczy analizy ubytku właściwości użytkowych noży pielnika aktywnego produkowanych przez firmę AKPIL. Zakres analiz obejmuje: obliczenia numeryczne stanu naprężeń podczas uderzeń i analizę zmęczeniową oraz laboratoryjne badania odporności na zużycie ścierne i zniszczenie pod wpływem uderzenia o kamień. W wyniku przeprowadzonych badań laboratoryjnych opracowano zależność zmian procentowego ubytku masy w funkcji czasu pracy dla różnych rodzajów noży.
    The paper concerns the analyses of the loss of functional properties of the knives of active hoe by AKPIL. The range of analyses includes: the numerical calculation of stress state during impact, fatigue analysis and laboratory researches of abrasion resistance and stone damage resistance. As the result of laboratory researches that were conducted, the dependency of changes of percentage mass loss was estimated in the function of work duration for different types of knives.

    Opis:
    The Gait Variability Index (GVI) summarizes overall gait quality, taking into account spatiotemporal parameters from a 3-dimensional gait analysis. However, there are no studies evaluating changes in gait patterns after stroke, based on the GVI. The study was designed to assess usefulness of the GVI for evaluation of gait pathology in subjects with stroke, compared to healthy individuals. Methods: Spatiotemporal gait parameters were examined in a group of 50 subjects at a chronic stage post-stroke and in 50 healthy controls. The GVI was calculated based on the 9 spatiotemporal data. Results: The findings show statistically significant differences between the values of the GVI for paretic and non-paretic limbs ( p < 0.001). Higher values of the index were identified in the case of non-paretic limb: 80.74 vs. 76.32. The GVI scores were decreased for both paretic and non-paretic limbs, compared to the controls – p < 0.001. Conclusions: The GDI score seems to be a viable tool for quantifying changes in gait pattern during evaluation of subjects with chronic post-stroke hemiparesis. Further studies should be conducted to validate the use of GVI in the post-stroke population.

    Opis:
    Some basic problems related to measurements of electrical impedance of biological objects (bioimpedance) have been presented in this paper. Particularly problems arising from impedance occurring at the sensor–tissue interface (interfacial impedances) in contact measuring methods have been discussed. The influence of finite values of impedances of the current source and voltage measuring device has also been taken into consideration. A model of the impedance sensor for the four-electrode measurement method containing the interfacial, source and measuring device impedances has been given and its frequency characteristics obtained by the computer simulation have been presented. The influence of these impedances on the shape of frequency characteristic of the sensor model has been discussed. Measurements of bioimpedance of healthy and anomalous soft tissues have been described. Some experimental results, particularly the frequency characteristics of bioimpedance, have been shown. The presented results of measurement show that bioimpedance can be a valuable source of information about the tissues, so measurement of bioimpedance can be a useful supplement to other medical diagnostic methods.

    Przeanalizowano wybrane parametry hematologiczne i biochemiczne osocza krwi cieląt w pierwszym miesiącu życia przed podaniem wraz z preparatem mlekozastępczym dodatkowej ilości laktozy i po jego podaniu. Doświadczenie przeprowadzono na 8 buhajkach rasy polsko-fryzyjskiej odmiany czarno-białej. Krew pobierano przed porannym karmieniem w okresie od 6 do 8, od 13 do 15 i od 20 do 22 dnia życia. W 6, 13 i 20 dniu życia podczas wieczornego karmienia oraz w 7, 14 i 21 dniu życia podczas porannego karmienia do preparatu mlekozastępczego dodawano jednowodną laktozę w ilości 1g . kg-1 masy ciała. Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników stwierdzono, że u wszystkich cieląt w 3 grupach wiekowych dwukrotne podanie preparatu mlekozastępczego z dodatkiem laktozy spowodowało najprawdopodobniej przyspieszony pasaż treści jelitowej i dodatkowe straty wody wraz z kałem, których objawem były częste i luźne stolce o charakterystycznym ciemnozielonym zabarwieniu. Pomimo obserwowanych zaburzeń pokarmowych u cieląt nie stwierdzono zmian w stężeniu białka całkowitego (TP), albuminy (Alb), glukozy, sodu (Na), potasu (K) chlorków (Cl), miedzi (Cu), fosforu nieorganicznego (iP), magnezu (Mg) oraz hematokrytu (Ht) i średniej objętości krwinek czerwonych (MCV). W pierwszym tygodniu życia po podaniu cielętom dodatkowej porcji laktozy istotnie obniżyło się stężenie żelaza (Fe) oraz cynku (Zn).
    The current study presents an analysis of selected hematological and biochemical parameters of the blood plasma of calves during the first month of life, before and after administration of a milk replacer with additional quantity of lactose. The experiment was performed on 8 male Polish-Friesan calves var. Black-and-White. Blood samples were collected before the morning feeding from 6th to 8th, from 13th to 15th and from 20th to 22nd day of life. In the evening on the 6th, 13th and 20th day of the experiment and in the morning on the 7th, 14th and 21st day of the experiment, monohydrate lactose in an amount of 1g per 1 kg of body weight was added into the milk replacer. In all calves in three age groups, two-time administration of milk replacer with the addition of lactose, most likely caused rapid passage of intestinal content and additional water loss in feces, which manifested in frequent and loose stools of distinctive dark green color. Although digestive disorders were observed in the calves studied, no changes were detected in the concentrations of total protein (TP), albumin (Alb), glucose, sodium (Na), potassium (K) chloride (Cl), copper (Cu), inorganic phosphorous (iP) magnesium (Mg) as well as haematocrit (Ht) and mean corpuscular volume of erythrocytes (MCV). Calves in the first week of life, after the supply of additional portion of lactose, had significantly reduced concentration of iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn).

    The main aim of this study was to compare selected nonspecific immunity parameters in 14 allergic and 12 healthy horses. Each animal was assessed according to the following parameters: in vitro functional capacity of phagocytic cells using the nitro blue tetrazolium chloride reduction test, both spontaneous (NBT) and zymozan stimulated (NBTs), and ingestion capacity of phagocytic cells using a phagocytic index test (IF) and percentage of phagocytosing neutrophils activity (%KF). Differences were demonstrated between the group of allergic horses, especially with severe allergy symptoms, and healthy horses in NBTs values, with higher values in healthy horses. The values of the phagocytic index were significantly higher in horses with allergy.

    Videodermoscopic examinations have only recently started to be used in veterinary medicine and usually involve a small group of animals. The aim of this study was to compare specific dermoscopic parameters in selected areas of the body of Arabian horses in the summer and winter seasons. The research was conducted between 2018-2019. The procedure was performed on the left side of the horse’s body in seven areas: head, neck, chest, flank, rump, mane, and tail. 42 purebred Arabian horses aged 1-25 (median), 39 mares and 3 stallions were qualified for the study. An Italian Video-Dermascope 7 (Medici Medical SRL with the 3 VIDIX 5Mpx camera and the VX1 overlay - Contact type cap Ø 3.5 cm) was used in the dermatoscopic evaluation. Specialist Cellsens Olympus software for analysing microscopic images was used to perform the measurements. Regardless of the area assessed, the skin in the summer months is darker than in the winter months. Hair thickness ranged from 44.82 (chest in summer) to 87.45 um (mane in winter). Regarding hair density, the number of hairs in the field of view of the dermatoscope ranged from 990 (summer mane) to 3680 (head in winter). Our research showed that the season of the year influences the amount of hair without significantly affecting its thickness.

    Multidisciplinary studies of the Middle-Upper Bathonian ore-bearing clays at Gnaszyn revealed variable palaeoenvironmental conditions during the deposition of this seemingly monotonous sequence. We interpret the conditions in the bottom environment and the photic zone, and also evaluate the influence of the adjacent land areas, based on sedimentology, geochemistry, sporomorphs and palynofacies composition, benthic (foraminifera, gastropods, bivalves, scaphopods, echinoderms), planktonic (calcareous nannoplankton, dinoflagellate cysts), and nektonic (sharks) fossils. The Gnaszyn succession originated relatively close to the shore, within reach of an intense supply of terrestrial fine clastic and organic particles. The latter are mainly of terrestrial origin and range from 1.5 to 2.5 wt.%. The precise water depth is difficult to estimate but most likely ranges from several tens of metres to a few hundred metres. All fossil groups show minor changes throughout the succession. As the climate seems to have been quite stable during this period we consider sea-level fluctuations to have been the main factor responsible for the changes. The terrestrial input, including freshwater and land-derived clastic and organic particles (sporomorphs and cuticles), increased during periods of sea-level lowstand. As a consequence, stress conditions (lower salinity, higher nutrient availability, lower water transparency) in the photic zone caused blooms of opportunistic planktonic taxa. Furthermore, a faster sedimentation rate led to oxygen depletion and deterioration of the living conditions in the bottom environment due to an increased accumulation of organic matter. As a result, the benthic biota became taxonomically impoverished and commonly dominated by juvenile forms. During periods of high sea level, the source areas were shifted away from the basin, resulting in a decrease in the terrestrial influx, increase in the salinity of surface waters, the appearance of more diverse phytoplankton assemblages, a lower sedimentation rate, and an improvement of living conditions at the bottom.

    The present study was designed to asses specific IgE towards environment allergens in 42 healthy horses. Determination of this immunoglobulin in serum serve as diagnostic tools in allergic diseases to improve efficacy of the treatment and proper allergen selection to specific immunotherapy. Serum levels of allergen specific IgE were measured with equine monoclonal antibody, using 15 individual and 5 mix allergens in North European Panel. The study revealed season dependent increased levels of allergen specific IgE in normal horses. It is noteworthy that healthy horses show high percentage of positive reactions, most commonly towards to domestic mites D. farinae (80%), D. pteronyssinus (35.71%) and storage mites T. putrenscentiae (42.86%), Acarus siro (40.48%). These allergens play an important role in equine, canine and feline atopic dermatitis. We also demonstrated high IgE levels in the group of horse specific insect allergens. Tabanus sp. (35.71%), Culicoides sp. (28.57%) and Simulium sp. (26.19%) were the most frequent insect positive reaction allergens. No positive reactions in all groups of allergens were found in winter season, low and merely detectable levels of antibodies have been found relating to D. farianae and T. putrescentiae allergen. We observed elevated mould-IgE levels in horses that live in stables, while outdoor living horses showed very low levels. Amongst all positive reactions we observed only weak and moderate reactions but no strong positive reactions were found. No significant differences were observed between three breeds of horses with the exception of moulds and D. pteronyssinus allergens.
