    The aim of the paper is to present the dramatic works of Sholem Asch with reference to the basic characteristics of the Young Poland period “interior drama”, further specified by Jerzy Waligóra as a manifestation of the processes of drama subjectivisation in the late 19th/early 20th century. Departing from the traditional perception of Asch’s dramatic works in the context of the literary heritage of the Polish-Jewish borderlands or the modernist symbolic drama makes it possible to interpret his works as identity drama, based on the need to choose between what was and what will be, between the past with its tradition on the one hand, and the present with the related modernity on the other hand.

    The matter under consideration is the shaping and the creation of the dramatic structure in Ewa Madeyska’s Pętla [Loop], a play by the finalist of the Gdyńska Nagroda Dramaturgiczna (Gdynia Drama Prize – 2013 edition). The play’s nature is determined by the unique placement inbetween,somewhere along the sacrum-profane continuum.Furthermore, the drama in questionis an interestingexample of a dramaturgical parabole referring to the biblical symbolism of the road and the stone. These considerations draw from Mircea Eliade’s remarks contained in the work Sacrum and the profane.The essence of the religious sphere (Le Sacr´e et le Profane), as well as the essay on the Hermetic hermeneutics.     Artykuł prezentuje dwie teorie teatru słowa Juliusza Osterwy oraz Mieczysława Kotlarczyka i Karola Wojtyły. W rozumieniu twórców przynależą one do zjawiska określonego mianem „praelementów teatru”. Stanowisko to wydaje się o tyle interesujące, że zdaniem Jana Ciechowicza stanowi podstawę „światopoglądu teatralnego” Wojtyły, zaś w ocenie Janusza Pasierba „korzenie metodologiczne” jego poetyki i dramaturgii. Zaprezentowane analizy obejmują kanoniczne teksty obu twórców: listy i zapiski prywatne Osterwy zgromadzone w tomie Przez teatr – poza teatr (2004) oraz korespondencję, publicystykę teatralną i wypowiedzi teoretycznoteatralne Wojtyły opublikowane w wyborze Poezje i dramaty (2001) i przypomniane niedawno w jego Dziełach literackich i teatralnych (2019). Słowo rozumiane jako „praelement teatru”, a zarazem jako siła żywa i działająca, stanowi – w moim rozumieniu – podstawowy wyznacznik myślenia teatrem Karola Wojtyły.
    The purpose of this article is to present two different theories about the “theatre of the word,” the first of these theories held by Juliusz Osterwa, and the second one held by Mieczysław Kotlarczyk and Karol Wojtyła. The idea that these theories belong to the literary phenomenon termed “proto-elements of theatre” is shared by all three of these conceptual authors. This phenomenon seems to be especially interesting because, according to Jan Ciechowicz, it constitutes the basis of Karol Wojtyła’s “theatrical world-view,” and, according to Janusz Pasierb, it also forms the “methodological roots” of Wojtyła’s poetry and drama. The analyses of the phenomenon presented in this article cover the canonical texts of both authors: the letters and private writings of Osterwa, gathered in the tome Przez teatr – poza teatr (2004), as well as Wojtyła’s correspondence, journalistic writings concerning the theatre and his works dealing with the theory of theatre, published in Poezje i dramaty (2001), and recalled in the recent Dzieła literackie i teatralne (2019). The spoken word, understood as a “proto-element of theatre,” and, at the same time, as a working, living force, is – in my understanding – a basic tenet of Karol Wojtyła’s thinking about theatre.

    Gabriela Zapolska as an actress had been working both with professional (Kraków, Poznań, Łódź, Petersburg, Lwów) and provincial theatres (Pomorze, Wielkopolska, Kró- lestwo Polskie). She has collaborated with Jakub Apolinary Glikson, Tadeusz Pawlikowski and Ludwik Heller. From 1889 to 1895 she lived in Paris, where she was playing at the Théâtre Libre André Antoine and the Théâtre de l’Oeuvre. In 1900 she resigned from her act-ing career for the literary one. This article summarizes journalistic statements of Gabriela Zapolska about acting. They seem more interesting because they are being made by active, but artistically unfulfilled actress and playwright.

    The aim of this article is to describe selected 20th-century novels which deal with theatre and the rule of theatralization of the presented fictional world. The selected works (Zwariowane miasto by Jan Wiktor, Wteatrwstąpienie (rzecz o aktorze – romans nietypowy) by Jerzy Ronard Bujański and Biała noc miłości. Opowieść teatralna by Gustaw Herling-Grudziński) suggest that the process of staging fictional reality comprises not only the compositional mode of the characterized pieces, but also the inherent trait woven into the structure of the epic world. The reference point behind the analytical speculations is the “staging of life” concept by Mikołaj Jewreinow, stemming from the anti-naturalistic theatrical theories from the turn of the 19th and the 20th centuries.
    Artykuł charakteryzuje wybrane powieści XX wieku, których tematem staje się teatr oraz zasada teatralizacji powieściowego świata przedstawionego. Wybrane utwory (Zwariowane miasto Jana Wiktora, Wteatrwstąpienie (rzecz o aktorze – romans nietypowy) Jerzego Ronarda Bujańskiego oraz Biała noc miłości. Opowieść teatralna Gustawa Herlinga-Grudzińskiego) sugerują, że proces teatralizacji fikcjonalnej rzeczywistości stanowi zarówno dominantę kompozycyjną charakteryzowanych tekstów, jak również cechę immanentnie wpisaną w strukturę epickiego świata. Punktem odniesienia dla rozważań analitycznych staje się koncepcja „teatralizacji życia” Mikołaja Jewreinowa, wyrastająca z antynaturalistycznej teorii teatru przełomu XIX i XX wieku.

    Współczesna proza polska na nowo powraca do zagadnień artystowskich, próbując mitologizować obraz artysty świata teatru. W niniejszym artykule interesować mnie będzie grupa tekstów, które ujawniają szczególnego rodzaju zainteresowanie wybitnymi osobowościami polskiego teatru – Kazimierzem Dejmkiem i Jerzym Grotowskim. Wybrane utwory pierwowzór bohaterów powieściowych, a także schemat fabularny, zapożyczają z pogranicza biografii oraz wydarzeń teatralnych, a następnie transponują je w świat powieściowej fikcji. Zastosowana strategia kluczowa występuje w dwóch podstawowych wariantach – powieści pamfletu oraz powieści paraboli. Proces mitologizowania artysty teatru podporządkowany zostaje tworzeniu biografii fantazmatycznych, opartych na szczególnego rodzaju pakcie referencjalnym między nadawcą i odbiorcą tekstu.
    The contemporary Polish prose has once more become inspired by the novel concerning an artist, and attempts to mythologise the artist’s image of the world of the theater. In this article, I shall cover a range of texts which show a peculiar interest in the great figures of the Polish theatre – Kazimierz Dejmek and Jerzy Grotowski. The chosen works adopt the archetypes of both the characters, as well as of the plot, from the overlapping areas of the two artists’ personal and professional scenic lives, conveying the artists’ real-world experiences into fiction. The key strategy used in the mentioned works occurs in two basic varieties – the pamphlet novel and the parabolic novel. The mythologisation of the artist is dependent on the creation of phantasmatic biographies, based on a unique type of an unspoken agreement between the author and the reader.

    This paper is dedicated to the theatrical novel by Tadeusz Kudliński, Świętokradca (1947), in which a fictional dialogue between the author of the novel and the performance concept of Shakespeare’s Hamlet by Juliusz Osterwa is being held. Analysis of the novel, in which a metatextual frame is included as well, is confronted with earlier considerations of Wanda Świątkowska, who had conducted a close analysis of Juliusz Osterwa’s Hamlet, considering his personal and professional relationship with Tadeusz Kudliński, too. The novel Świętokradca, released in the year of Osterwa’s death, not only provides another interpretation of Hamlet, but also makes an attempt to combine both Kudliński’s and Osterwa’s concepts.

    Artykuł charakteryzuje wypowiedzi krytyczne Michała Bałuckiego, autora rozprawy O różnych modach w literaturze powieściowej (1894), dotyczące modernizmu oraz wypowiedzi przedstawicieli krytyki młodopolskiej formułowane w stosunku do twórczości Bałuckiego. Spór literacki przybiera najbardziej tragiczne zakończenie z możliwych. Kontekstem rozważań czyni autorka kategorię agonu literackiego, która okazuje się interesująca przy próbie opisu dokonań artystycznych ostatniej dekady życia i twórczości krakowskiego komediopisarza.
    The aim of this article is to summarise critical responses of Michał Bałucki, the author of the essay O różnych modach w literaturze powieściowej (1894), concerning modernism and the criticism expressed about his own works by the critics of the Young Poland movement. The literary feud takes on the most tragic end possible. As a context for her reflections, the author of this article utilises the category of literary agon, which turns out to be a very illuminating idea when applied to describing the artistic achievements of the last decade of the playwright’s life.

    Artykuł prezentuje narracje migracyjne (założycielskie i tożsamościowe) kulturowej przestrzeni miasta Słupska oraz ich konteksty teatralne. Punktem wyjścia staje się analiza porównawcza mikrohistorii lokalnych zapisanych w tekstach dokumentu osobistego: nieopublikowanych dotąd Wspomnieniach pierwszych słupszczan i opublikowanych wspomnieniach słupskich osadników Mój nowy dom (2009). Przykłady lokalnych narracji migracyjnych skonfrontowane zostają z ustaleniami teoretycznoliterackimi w zakresie literackich świadectw dyskursu tożsamościowego i memorialnego.
    This article aims to describe narratives regarding migration within Slupsk's cultural sphere and their contextual reflections in theatre. The article begins with a comparative analysis of local biographies written down in personal documents, such as the yet-to-be-published Wspomnienia pierwszych słupszczan (“Memories of the first residents of Slupsk”), and the published accounts of Slupsk's residents in Mój nowy dom (“My new home”). The above works are then examined through the lens the of literary discourse surrounding migratory identity.

    Artykuł charakteryzuje antologie nowego dramatu polskiego, które zawierają teksty dramatyczne powstałe po przełomie 1989 r. Jego celem jest analiza procesu przemiany antologii, rozumianej jako sztuka wyboru, w antologizowanie, mieszczące się na granicy praktyki teoretycznoliterackiej czy nawet pewnej strategii metodologicznej. W dalszej perspektywie badawczej mieszczą się także pytania o naturę tekstu dramatycznego ewoluującego od klasycznie rozumianego dramatu ku „tekstom dla teatru”.
    The article attempts to describe the anthologies of a new Polish drama. The selected anthologies contain dramatic texts written following the breakthrough of 1989. The aim of this article is to analyse the process of transformation of anthology (understood as the art of selection) into anthologising, which verges on theoretical and literary practice, or even a certain methodological strategy. The research perspective presented in this paper seeks further examination of the very nature of dramatic texts, which seem to evolve from the classical concept of drama into “texts for theatre”.

    DsbA is the major oxidase responsible for generation of disulfide bonds in proteins of E. coli envelope. In the present work we provided the first detailed characterization of disulfide exchange between DsbA and its natural substrate, HtrA protease. We demonstrated that HtrA oxidation relies on DsbA, both in vivo and in vitro. We followed the disulfide exchange between these proteins spectrofluorimetrically and found that DsbA oxidizes HtrA with a 1 : 1 stoichiometry. The calculated second-order apparent rate constant (kapp) of this reaction was 3.3 × 104 ± 0.6 × 104 M-1s-1. This value was significantly higher than the values obtained for nonfunctional disulfide exchanges between DsbA and DsbC or DsbD and it was comparable to the kapp values calculated for in vitro oxidation of certain non-natural DsbA substrates of eukaryotic origin.
