Dążenie miast do rozwoju funkcji metropolitalnych oznacza dzisiaj przede wszystkim dążenie do inteligentnego rozwoju tych specjalizacji i funkcji, które stanowią o ich przewadze konkurencyjnej i czynią miasto bardziej atrakcyjnym tak dla inwestorów, jak i pozostałych użytkowników jego przestrzeni. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie szans rozwoju miast przynależnych do nowo utworzonej Metropolii oraz pokazanie przykładów wykorzystania wspólnego potencjału społeczno-kulturowego, służącego kreowaniu nowej marki – Metropolia „Silesia”. Wykorzystane metody badawcze odwołują się do nurtu badań jakościowych w socjologii miasta, do których zalicza się obserwacja, opis, analiza treści. Każde z miast w zależności od swojego charakteru wybiera różne drogi rozwoju, stawiając na ten potencjał, który stanowi największą wartość i bogactwo danego regionu. W przypadku miast należących do Metropolii „Silesia” taki potencjał stanowi niewątpliwie dziedzictwo kulturowe regionu. W artykule został zatem przedstawiony przebieg procesów metropolizacyjnych zachodzących na obszarze konurbacji górnośląskiej.
Urban aspirations for the development of metropolitan functions today mean primarily the pursuit of intelligent development of those specialties and functions that are competitive and make the city more attractive to investors and other users of its space. The aim of the article is to present the opportunities for the development of cities belonging to the newly created Metropolis and to show examples of using the common socio-cultural potential to create a new brand – the Metropolis "Silesia". The applied research methods refer to the current of qualitative research in the sociology of the city, which includes observation, description and content analysis. Each of the cities, depending on their nature, chooses different paths of development, placing on the potential that represents the region's greatest value and wealth. In the case of cities belonging to the Metropolis "Silesia" this potential undoubtedly constitutes the cultural heritage of the region. Thus, the article presents the course of metropolising processes taking place in the area of the Upper Silesian conurbation.

The development potential of cities is increasingly becoming their creative potential. Creative industries in Europe are not only an "addition" to the city's economy, but more and more often an important and profitable element of the economy. European cities increasingly recognize the importance of the potential of broadly understood historical and cultural wealth of a city or region, and it is based on this wealth that they build their brand. It is the places of the atmosphere and memory that most often create a specific, original aura of the city, which determines its attractiveness, which is why cities usually are identified and perceived through these special places that stand out in its physical space and they are "significant symbols", they become the attraction for the city. Lack of care for the so-called The "feature characterizing the city" leads as a result to perceive the city as boring and unattractive. As a result, if the city does not attract creative and entrepreneurial people, in accordance with the principles of sustainable development, this will translate into poor development of other areas of life. The aim of the article is to describe and evaluate the development of a creative "urban space" in the area of the Upper Silesian and Zagłębie Metropolis, and on the example of the capital of the region – Katowice.
Siłą rozwojową miast staje się coraz częściej ich potencjał kreatywny. Przemysły kreatywne w Europie to już nie tylko „dodatek” do gospodarki miasta, ale coraz częściej ważny i dochodowy element tej gospodarki. Miasta europejskie dostrzegają coraz częściej wagę potencjału jakim jest szeroko rozumiane bogactwo historyczno-kulturowe miasta czy regionu i to w oparciu o to bogactwo budują swoją markę. To najczęściej miejsca atmosfery i pamięci tworzą specyficzną, oryginalną aurę miasta, która decyduje o jego atrakcyjności, dlatego miasta zazwyczaj określa się i postrzega poprzez te właśnie szczególne miejsca, które wyróżniają się w jego fizycznej przestrzeni i to one, jako “znaczące jej symbole”, stają się siłą przyciągającą do miasta. Brak dbałości o tzw. “rys charakteryzujący miasta”, prowadzi w rezultacie do postrzegania miasta jako nudnego i nieatrakcyjnego. W rezultacie jeżeli miasto nie przyciągnie ludzi kreatywnych i przedsiębiorczych, w myśl zasad zrównoważonego rozwoju, przełoży się to na słaby rozwój pozostałych dziedzin życia. Celem artykułu jest opis i ocena rozwoju „kreatywnej przestrzeni miejskiej” w obszarze Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowskiej Metropolii oraz na przykładzie stolicy regionu – Katowic.

Proces ten omówiony został na przykładzie wybranych miast konurbacji górnośląskiej, aspirującej do miana Metropolii Silesia.
Sector of culture is recognized for one of most important more frequently, beside sector of science and business, foundation and condition of development of modern society, same, cities condition of development equal as well as collocation is on development region so called „industry creative”. Attempt of analysis capability of utilization of development of sector of culture is purpose of article in city, as important component of development of metropolitan function city, there be condition of its level-headed sustainable development. This process was discussed on the example of chosen cities of the conurbation Upper Silesia, aspiring to the name of Metropolis Silesia.

Pojawiają się zatem pytania czy współczesne miasto poprzemysłowe ma szansę na nowo określić ścieżkę swojego rozwoju i stać się prężnym, zdolnym do konkurencji ośrodkiem miejskim oraz jaki udział w tworzeniu nowej jakościowo przestrzeni społecznej tych miast odgrywa dziedzictwo poprzemysłowe regionu?
The nature of socio-economic changes in the modern world forces also need to change the basic function of the cities associated to date mainly from the industrial era. The effects of these changes are visible mainly in the forms of transformation and re-use of urban space. In creating the strategy of development of individual regions and cities increasingly hears about the concept and the need for the development of smart specialization. This rule applies to the need to define their own strengths and focus attention on priority development factors of a given city or region in the principle that you cannot specialize in everything. The question therefore arises whether the modern post-industrial city has the opportunity to redefine the path of its development and become a resilient, able to compete urban center and which contribute to the formation of a qualitatively new social space of the cities plays a former industrial heritage of the region?

Procesy przemian zachodzących we współczesnych społeczeństwach ponowoczesnych znajdują także swoje odzwierciedlenie w przestrzeni społecznej i fizycznej miasta. Współczesne miasto staje się w skali mikro areną wydarzeń obrazujących zmiany społeczne i gospodarcze zachodzące w globalizującym się świecie, ale jednocześnie coraz częściej atutem miast staje się ich wyjątkowość, oryginalność. Celem artykułu będzie ukazanie owych przemian na przykładzie procesów społeczno-kulturowych intensywnie zachodzących w ostatnich latach na obszarze jednego z najstarszych miast Górnego Śląska – Bytomia. Miasta, które w ciągu ostatnich dziesięcioleci swój rozwój wiązało głównie z pełnieniem funkcji przemysłowych. Jest to zatem socjologiczne studium przypadku, dokonane w oparciu o badania jakościowe wykorzystujące metodę analizy dokumentów oraz obserwację i opis, w tym przypadku, zjawisk zachodzących w obszarze jednego, wybranego do analizy miasta.
The processes of change taking place in modern postmodern societies are also reflected in the social and physical space of the city. The modern city is becoming a microcosm of events reflecting the social and economic changes taking place in the globalizing world, but at the same time, the uniqueness of the cities becomes more and more unique. The aim of this article will be to illustrate these changes, as an example of the socio-cultural processes intensively occurring in recent years in the area of one from the oldest towns of Upper Silesia - Bytom. Cities that have grown over the last decades have been mostly industrial. This is a sociological case study, based on qualitative research using the method of document analysis and the observation and description, in this case, of phenomena occurring in the area of one selected for city analysis.

Striving for the development of the cities of metropolitan functions, today is the quest for development of functions, that will make the city more attractive to investors and at the same time create their space friendly to life. Each city depending on its nature, choosing different paths of development, betting on the potential, which is the largest value and the richness of the region. For cities belonging to the Upper Silesian Agglomeration the potential is undoubtedly heritage postindustrial.

Obszar Górnego Śląska w ostatnim ćwierćwieczu staje się areną rozgrywających się na naszych oczach zmian społeczno-urbanizacyjnych. Silnie zindustrializowany obszar, gdzie gwałtownym procesom uprzemysłowienia nigdy nie towarzyszyły linearne procesy urbanizacyjne, stanął w obliczu konieczności określenia na nowo swojej tożsamości. Procesy przemian zachodzących we współczesnych społeczeństwach ponowoczesnych znajdują także swoje odzwierciedlenie w przestrzeni społecznej i fizycznej miasta. Współczesne miasto staje się w skali mikro areną wydarzeń obrazujących zmiany społeczne i gospodarcze zachodzące w globalizującym się świecie, ale jednocześnie coraz częściej atutem miast staje się ich wyjątkowość, oryginalność, szczególny "duch miejsca", który sprawia, że niektóre miasta tworzą specyficzną, sobie tylko właściwą atmosferę i "magię miejsca", która przyciąga do o nich ludzi. Celem artykułu jest opis i ocena przebiegu procesów rewitalizacyjnych, intensywnie zachodzących w ostatnich latach na Górnym Śląsku, na przykładzie stolicy regionu – Katowic.
The area of Upper Silesia in the last quarter of the century has become the arena of social and urban changes taking place. A highly industrialized area where rapid industrialization processes have never been accompanied by linear urbanization processes, has faced the need to redefine its identity. The processes of change taking place in modern postmodern societies are also reflected in the social and physical space of the city. The modern city becomes a micro-arena of events that depict social change and the economy in the globalizing world, but at the same time, the uniqueness, originality and special spirit of the place are becoming that some cities create a specific, just the right atmosphere and the "magic of the place" that attracts people to them. The aim of the article is to describe and evaluate the course of revitalization processes, intensively occurring in recent years in Upper Silesia, on the example of the capital of the region – Katowice.

The paper presents a numerical thermal model of an encapsulated three-phase electrical transformer. The model is based on the multi-physical approach and involves heat transfer analysis coupled with the examination of specific power losses in the coils and the core using electromagnetic field analysis as well as determination of thermal stresses. The thermal boundary conditions (i. e. local heat fluxes) are determined by considering a numerical model of the surrounding air. Additionally, the device is cooled via radiation (from the external walls) and forced convection (a water cooling system). A few different configurations of the cooler and the heat pipes are also analyzed. Moreover, anisotropic material properties were applied for stranded coils and the core. A partial experimental validation of the model has shown that the temperature distribution within the transformer is more realistic and closer to the measurements when compared with the previous analysis limited to heat transfer problems only with uniform internal heat sources and isotropic material properties. The total heat transfer rate indicates that forced convection is the most important heat dissipation mechanism in this model. The significance of the water cooling system has also been established in calculations of crack presence in the model.

Opis:
In this paper, a new adaptive filter intended for the attenuation of impulse noise in colour images is proposed. The new filtering design is based on the concept of a peer group of pixels sharing similar chromatic properties. The novel approach adaptively determines the size of the peer group which minimizes the aggregated distance to its members, utilizing the Fisher linear discriminant. The analysis of the obtained noise reduction results leads to the conclusion, that the new filter is capable of reducing even strong impulse noise, while preserving and even enhancing the edges of colour images. This unique property of the proposed filtering design is shown on examples of colour biomedical images.

Opis:
This paper focuses on three-dimensional (3-D) adaptive median filters based on the impulse detection approach designed to effectively remove the impulse noise from cardiographic image sequences. Impulse noise affects the useful information in the form of bit errors and it introduces to the image high frequency changes that prohibit to process and to evaluate the heart dynamics correctly. Therefore biomedical imaging such as vascular imaging and quantification of heart dynamics is closely related to digital filtering. In order to suppress impulse noise effectively, well-known non-linear filters based on the robust order-statistic theory provide interesting results. Although median filters have excellent impulse noise attenuation characteristics, their performance is often accompanied by undesired processing of noise-free samples resulting in edge blurring. The reason is that median filters do not satisfy the superposition property and thus the optimal filtering situation where only noisy samples are affected can never be fully obtained. The presented adaptive impulse detection based median filters, can achieve the excellent balance between the noise suppression and the signal-detail preservation. In this paper, the performance of the proposed approaches is successfully tested for the heart image sequence of 38 frames and the wide range of noise corruption intensity. The results are evaluated in terms of mean absolute error, mean square error and cross correlation.

Opis:
In this paper a novel class of filters designed for the removal of impulsive noise in colour images is presented. The proposed filter family is based on the kernel function which controls the noise suppression properties of the new filtering scheme. The comparison of the new filtering method with the standard techniques used for impulsive noise removal indicates its superior noise removal capabilities and excellent structure preserving properties. The proposed filtering scheme has been successfully applied to the denoising of the cDNA microarray images. Experimental results proved that the new filter is capable of removing efficiently the impulses present in multichannel images, while preserving their textural features.

Opis:
A new filtering approach designed to eliminate impulsive noise in color images, while preserving fine image details is presented. The computational complexity of the new filter is significantly lower than that of the Central Weighted Vector Median Filter (CWVMF). The comparison shows that the new filter outperforms the CWVMF, as well as other standard procedures used in color image filtering for the removal of impulsive noise.

The proposed filter class is based on the nonparametric estimation of the density probability function in a sliding filter window. Opis:
In this paper a novel class of noise attenuating and edge enhancing filters for color image processing is introduced and analyzed. The proposed adaptive filter design is minimizing the cumulative dissimilarity measure of a cluster of pixels belonging to the sliding filtering window and outputs the centrally located pixel. The proposed filter is computationally efficient, easy to implement and very effective in suppressing impulsive noise, while preserving image details and enhancing its edges. Therefore it can be used in any application in which simultaneous denoising and edge enhancement is a prerequisite for further steps of the color image processing pipeline.
