Artykuł poświęcony został ocenie dramatycznych wydarzeń lat 2020–2023, przebadanych na przykładzie refleksji intelektualistów białoruskich i ukraińskich. Rzecz dotyczy zrywu rewolucyjnego 2020 roku na Białorusi oraz pełnoskalowej wojny wywołanej przez Rosję 24 lutego 2022 roku w Ukrainie. Głowna uwaga badacza skupiona jest wokół trzech ważnych aspektów: 1) stanowiska wobec przeszłości oraz krytycznego zrewidowania spuścizny sowieckiej, 2) kwestii języka narodowego, zakresu jego funkcjonowania i perspektywy rozwoju, 3) prawa do indywidualnego wyrażania własnych poglądów, co ujawnia się w sądach o zaistniałej sytuacji oraz w wizji przyszłości. Zauważono wspólne cechy w refleksji Białorusinów i Ukraińców, ale wytyczono również istotne różnice, które wraz z upływem czasu pogłębiają się.
The article is devoted to assessing the reflections of Belarusian and Ukrainian intellectuals on the dramatic events of 2020–2023 - the 2020 revolutionary uprising in Belarus and Russia’s full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022. Three important aspects are represented in the article: 1) the stance towards the past and the critical revision of the Soviet legacy; 2) the question of the national language, the extent to which it functions, and the prospects for its development; 3) the right to individual expression of one’s views, which is revealed in judgments about the existing situation and in the vision of the future. Some common features are noted in Belarusians’ and Ukrainians’ reflections on these events, as well as differences also being delineated, which are deepening with the passage of time.

Autor poddaje analizie powieść Jewhenii Kononenko Ten szalony rok (2023). Napisana w formie dziennika zawiera ujmującą refleksję na temat pierwszego roku wojny rosyjsko-ukraińskiej na pełną skalę. Pisarka doskonale łączy dyskursy fiction i non-fiction. Jej manierę wypada zakwalifikować jako autofiction, według analogii z twórczością jej ulubionej powieściopisarki francuskiej Annie Ernaux, której utwory Kononenko przecież publikowała w swoim tłumaczeniu na język ukraiński. W powieści Ten szalony rok dostrzeżono, jak imperialny mit sąsiadów stopniowo dyskredytował pielęgnowaną w okresie ZSRR ideę wspólnoty i braterstwa, zwłaszcza na gruncie prywatnych relacji bohaterki z przyjaciółmi z Moskwy. Szczerość i poufność cechują także zobrazowanie osobistej tragedii narratorki związanej z chorobą i śmiercią jej córki.
The author analyzes Yevhenia Kononenko’s novel This Crazy Year (2023). Written in the form of a diary, it contains interesting reflections on the first year of full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war. The writer perfectly combines fiction and non-fiction discourses. Her style should be classified as autofiction, according to an analogy with the works of her favorite French novelist Annie Ernaux, which Kononenko published in her own translation into Ukrainian. In the novel This Crazy Year it is clearly illustrated how the imperial myth of neighbors gradually discredited the idea of community and brotherhood cultivated during the USSR period, especially in the context of the heroine’s private relations with her friends from Moscow. The portrayal of the narrator’s personal tragedy related to the illness and death of her daughter is marked by sincerity and confidentiality. As a new effort to interpret somebody’s own experience of the war, this novel is very important from the contemporary research point of view.

Autor artykułu śledzi kształtowanie się koncepcji pokolenia lat 60. – od przełomu lat 50. i 60. XX wieku po lata ostatnie – w dyskursie społeczno-kulturowym Ukrainy. Ten projekt pokoleniowy doznawał zarówno wzlotów, jak i upadków. Po wspaniałym debiucie pokolenia lat 60. i zadeklarowaniu przez nich idei sprawiedliwości oraz sprzeciwu wobec systemu totalitarnego nastąpił długi okres stagnacji oraz marginalizacji samej formacji. Zasłużoną satysfakcję po czasie trwałego milczenia przyniosła doba niepodległości Ukrainy, jednak „sześćdziesiątnicy” potrafili skorzystać z niej w różnej mierze, przeważnie w wymiarze politycznym. Jednakże w literaturze okresu Niepodległości ich obecność jest zaznaczona słabo, prawie symbolicznie. Zatem samorealizację artystyczną tego pokolenia wypada uznać za częściową, mimo że właśnie misja związana z promocją kultury była sednem koncepcji generacyjnej.
Автор простежує становлення концепції покоління шістдесятників – від кінця 1950-х до 2020-х років – у суспільно-культурному дискурсі України. Цей поколіннєвий проєкт мав свої перемоги і поразки. Після блискучого дебюту шістдесятників та декларації ідеї правди і спротиву щодо тоталітарної системи настав тривалий період застою та маргіналізації цієї формації. Сатисфакція за тривале мовчання стала можливою вже за доби незалежної України, але шістдесятники скористалися нею головно в політичній сфері. Однак у літературі періоду Незалежності їхня присутність доволі скромна, радше символічна. Таким чином, мистецька самореалізація цього покоління є лише частковою, незважаючи на факт, що саме культурниць- ка місія стала основою концепції генерації шістдесятих.

The article represents research into poetry written during the Revolution of Dignity (2014). Such artistic texts are analyzed as a kind of phenomenon of contemporary literature. These are the poems of famous authors or even amateurs, united by a common sacred code. They appeal to the patterns and archetypes of the collective consciousness of Ukrainians. In the poetry of Euromaidan the researcher underlines two types of sacralization, which can be conditionally called masculine and feminine (paternal and maternal). The masculine type of this process realizes a symbolic projection of the figure of Jesus Christ. This symbol emphasizes the determination of the act, active attitude, the idea of fighting for the truth, as well as the willingness to sacrifice their own lives for the common good. The feminine version of the proces of sacralization is the Virgin Mary. This image appeals not to the heroic act, but to its emotional reflection, more specifically – the suffering, pain, traumatic experience of the victim. It corresponds to the archetypal image of the Mother of God, the Suffering Mother, who sacrifices her own son to death and cries for him later. The embodiment of the Christian sacrum in the poetry of the Maidan testifies to the fidelity to both European and Ukrainian traditions.

Mykhailo Nayenko’s book of memoirs Озон зарубіжжя (Ozone of Abroad) is about author’s journeys to different countries and cultures. Mykhailo Nayenko is a well-known professor, who runs literary researches from the early 1980th for today. The book presented in the review, shows how academic landscape of Ukraine and Eastern Europe was changing after the collapse of Soviet Union. We can also notice some changes in author’s consciousness too as he tried to find his own place in the world without strict borders, in the conditions of free thoughts and possibility of speaking without censorship.

The review analyses the new book of professor Natalia Maliutina Ukrainian Drama of the End of XIX and Beginning of XX Centuries (Toruń 2020). The discussed book offers a systematic view of the Ukrainian drama. The author is interested in the process of the appearance of the new drama’s forms and genres on the borders of mentioned ages at the time when in Ukrainian literature period of modernism was beginning. The main attention in the book is dedicated to literary works of outstanding writers such as Ivan Karpenko-Karyi, Lesia Ukrainka, Volodymyr Vynnychenko, Oleksandr Oles. Therefore, the researcher also appeals to the creativity of less known and even forgotten writers of that time, between them Spyrydon Cherkasenko, Liubov Yanovska, Hnat Khotkevych etc. The monography of Natalia Maliutina evidences the influences of European culture on Ukrainian drama and appeals to the wide comparative problems of Europe of the mentioned period.

This study is dedicated to contemporary research on experimental literature, which was recognized as an outstanding phenomena and also as the form of artistic transgression during recent years. The reason for reflections on this topic was the publication of the monograph by Oksana Kovatska entitled Experimental Sails of Ukrainian Prose of the 1920s (Kyiv 2020). Kovatska appreciates the element of experiment in the Ukrainian post-revolutionary literature, and highly appreciates the innovative search of the young generation of contemporary writers. In particular, she focuses on three figures of literary experimentation, considering them in the context of the works of Viktor Petrov (Domontovych), Arkadii Liubchenko and Mike Johansen. Oksana Kovatska’s monograph is published as a pioneering work in the field of the problem presented here.

The author of the article writes about the identity of Odessa as about the kind of local identity that manifests itself in the historical context. He researches the individual examples of the local cultural specificity, appealing to the thoughts of authoritative writers and scientists. Odessa’s identity was formed through the influences of different factors, some of which were even contradictory. This gave rise to its uniqueness. It is characterised by liminality, independence (autonomy), cosmopolitanism. But it is important to understand that those influences were not equal, and their effects were often used for creating the ideological doctrines of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. In the presented research, the author reveals the formative mechanisms of some stereotypical images that the concept of identity consists of. These mechanisms express open or hidden Russian imperial strategy of colonisation. That is why the eff orts to glorify the local and specific are questionable. In this context, the well-known Odessa cosmopolitanism is often explained. But sometimes it is incorrect to understand it as the effect of the historical process of assimilation by the national, linguistic, or religious denominational groups which took place in the city during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The article is also about the discrimination against the culture of the national minorities, who in the so-called Odessa myth are represented in a fragmentary and incomplete way. Ukrainian element was also discriminated against. This may seem paradoxical, as Odessa and the Black Sea region are a natural part of the Ukrainian cultural space.

The research is dedicated to the development of Slavic idea in the Ukrainian romantic circles of adherents, namely in the secret circle, called Brotherhood of Saints Cyril and Methodius, which existed in Kyiv during 1846–1847 years. That comradeship represented its own original understanding of Slavic problems. After it was eliminated by the regime of the Russian Empire, all Slavophil movements were stopped and theirs participants were persecuted and arrested. That is why the author of the article treats 1847 as a year of arresting Kyiv’s conspirators and as a time of change in the development of Slavic ideology.

The article is about special cultural situation, which was in Lviv during 1939–1941 years in connection with liquidation of Polish state and soviet annexation of Galicia. In October 1939 began the process of merger of three ethnic writers’ groups (Polish, Ukrainians and Jewish) in one organization which was called The Union of Soviet Writers. From the other point of view, the main characteristics of the situation was fear, horror and death threat, which each author felt on its own way. Appealing to the memoirs of Ukrainian and Polish writers, we can talk about unexampled moment and also about pressing of creative individuality of author by the totalitarian power.

Jej uwagę przyciąga przede wszystkim doświadczenie istoty traumatycznej z tamtej epoki, niezależnie od tego, czy pochodzi od osób będących czynnymi budowniczymi systemu sowieckiego, czy też od tych, którzy od niego cierpieli, represjonowanych i dysydentów. Całokształt twórczości Swietłany Aleksijewicz charakteryzuje patos humanistyczny, nacelowany na rewaloryzację indywidualności i prywatności we współczesnym społeczeństwie. Эпоха homo sovieticus и ее призраки: о творчестве Светланы Алексиевич Автор рассматривает творчество Светланы Алексиевич в широком цивилизационно-культурном контексте нашего времени. Сама писательница признает, что изображает конец эпохи homo sovieticus. Ее внимание привлекает прежде всего травматический опыт этой эпохи, независимо от того, кому он принадлежит: активным созидателям советской системы или пострадавшим от нее, репрессированным и диссидентам. В целом для творчества Светланы Алексиевич характерен пафос гуманизма, нацеленный на возвращение ценности индивидуального и частного в современном обществе.  
The article dedicated to the Svetlana Aleksievich literary works in the cultural and social context of our time. As writer has recognized, she writes about the end of the epoch which was called homo sovieticus. She paid a great attention to the traumatic experience and doesn’t matter whom it belongs: to the soviet servants or theirs victims – that ones who was repressed and called as dissidents. Humanistic pathos is one of the main feature of Svetlana Aleksievich’s writings. It overestimates the value of individuality and private life in the contemporary society.

Opis:
The article is dedicated to the Svetlana Alexievich literary works in the cultural and social context of our time. As the writer has recognized, she writes about the end of the epoch which was called homo sovieticus. She paid a great attention to the traumatic experience regardless of to whom it belongs: to the Soviet servants or theirs victims – the ones who were repressed and called dissidents. Humanistic pathos is one of the main features of Svetlana Alexievich’s writings. It overestimates the value of individuality and private life in the contemporary society.

Autor rozpatruje kulturowy wizerunek Donbasu na przykładzie współczesnej literatury ukraińskiej, zwłaszcza w powieści Ołeksija Czupy Bajki mojego bunkra (2014). Badanie donieckiej tożsamości jest trudne z powodu niewystarczającej reprezentacji w tekstach współczesnej kultury, a także za sprawą demonizacji regionu w okresie aktualnej wojny na Wschodzie Ukrainy. Bohaterowie powieści Czupy to typowi mieszkańcy Donbasu, “szarzy” ludzie, stąd w ich zachowaniu bardzo ważne wydaje się przeżywanie doznań cielesnych. Donieckie doświadczenie cielesności apeluje zarówno do sytuacji egzystencjalnej, co powoduje przewartościowanie zasad moralnych, jak i do kształtowania nowej formuły jednostki jako fenomenu społecznego.
In the article the cultural refl ection of the physicality of Donbass has been researched. As the example of such question’s description in the contemporary literature the author chose Oleksiy Chupa’s novel The Tales of My Shelter (Казки мого бомбосховища, 2014). The problem of the researching of Donetsk’s identity consists in the very fact that there is no clear manifestation of it in the modern culture. The heroes of the researched novel are typical inhabitants of Donbass: the “grey” people for whom primitive customs and physical needs are the most important and very often just hidden. Donetsk’s experience of physicality, as the novel of Oleksiy Chupa shows, appeals to the typical existential situation which is accompanied by the revision of cultural values and very often leads to the social matrix changing of the perception of a human.
