This study investigated the effect of strut thickness on the room and high temperature compressive properties of block-type Ni-Cr-Al powder porous metals with ~3000 μm pore size manufactured using a new powder process. Two block-type Ni-Cr-Al porous metals with different strut thicknesses were manufactured. The strut thicknesses of two block foams were 340 μm (A) and 383 μm (B), respectively. Room temperature, 500°C, 650°C and 800°C compressive tests were performed. The compressive results identified typical elastic, plateau and densification regions of foam material in all temperature conditions. Regardless of the strut thickness, compressive strength (maximum peak stress) decreased as deformation temperature increased. In all deformation temperature ranges, the compressive strength measured higher in the porous metal with greater strut thickness (B). The high temperature deformation behavior of powder porous metal was confirmed to be affected by the structural factor and microstructural factor of the porous metal. With the findings described above, this study also discussed the high temperature deformation mechanism of the Ni-Cr-Al metal foam based on fracture surfaces after the high temperature compressions.

Opis:
Mixed oxides of Ti-V-O were co-precipitated by wet process using TiCl₄ and VOCl₃ as starting materials. As-precipitated gels were calcinated at 800°C for 4 hours in oxygen atmosphere. Effects of vanadium content on the structural evolution, morphology, and band gap of Ti-V-O oxides were investigated. Calcination has produced mixtures of TiO₂/VO₂/V₂O₅ oxides and has allowed formation of Ti_{1-x}V_{x}O₂. Lattice parameters of rutile TiO₂ were precisely measured to investigate vanadium substitution into single rutile phase of Ti_{1-x}V_{x}O₂ with varying vanadium content. As vanadium addition was increased, particles were coarsening rapidly during calcination. Band gap of the Ti-V-O oxides was measured using ultraviolet visible light spectrometer. A decrease of band gap down to 1.7 eV with the addition of maximum of 10 at.% of vanadium was measured, which is due to the formation of single phase of Ti_{1-x}V_{x}O₂ as well as the formation of metallic VO₂ or V₂O₅ particles.

Although phosphinic acid (H3PO2) has a powerful reduction potential, the reduction of silver ions by phosphinic acid salt has not yet been reported. In this work, colloidal silver has successfully synthesized by reducing silver ions in ethanol with phosphinic acid as a reducing agent. The effects of [AgNO3]/[H3PO2] ratios and reaction temperature were considered. Spherical silver nanoparticles with cubic structure were successfully prepared and their diameters were measured to be 8.5±0.9 nm − 11.3±0.2 nm. Half-life analysis showed that the reduction of silver ions proceeded with the reaction order of 1.30 on concentration of phosphinic acid and activation energy of 120.7 kJ/mol.

One of the primary factors that affect the safe maritime navigation is the insufficient experience and skill of an apprentice officer, which may be improved using simulation-based training by ensuring operational efficiency. This study aims to determine appropriate factors for achieving effective and intensive simulation-based training of apprentice officers and present the guidelines for such a training scheme. Initially, a marine traffic risk model, which interprets and accurately measures the risk of collision with other vessels, is analyzed to derive the most influential factors in safe navigation. Subsequently, simulation experiments are conducted by applying machine learning to verify the required safe navigation factors for effectively training the apprentice officers. As a result of the above analysis, it was confirmed that the factor affecting safe maritime navigation was the distance from other vessels. Finally, the differences between these distances in the simulations are analyzed for both the apprentice officers and the experienced officers, and the guidelines corresponding to both these cases are presented. This study has the limitation because of the difference between the ship maneuver simulation and the actual ship navigation. This can be resolved based on the results of this study, in combination with the actual navigation data.

Although a disk-type fly ash filter has shown a good performance in trapping gaseous cesium, it has difficulty in charging filters into a filter container and discharging waste filters containing radioactive cesium from a container by remote action. To solve the difficulty of the disk-type fly ash filter, five types of granule filters, including a ball type, tube type, and sponge-structure type have been made. Among them, the best filter type was chosen through simple crucible tests. The five types of granule filters packed into containers were loaded into five alumina crucibles of 50 cc. Five grams of CsNO3 was used as a gaseous cesium source. They were then placed in a muffle furnace and heated to 900°C and maintained for 2 hours. After the experiment, the weights of the cesium trapped filters were measured. Among the five types of granule filters, the sponge-structure type granule filter was the best, which has the highest trapping capacity of cesium. Its capacity is 0.42 g-Cs/g-filter. The chosen sponge-structure type granule filters and disk-type filters have been tested using a two-zone tube furnace. Cs volatilization and Cs trapping zones were maintained at 900 and 1000°C, respectively. Sixteen grams of CsNO3 was used as a gaseous cesium source. The cesium trapping profile of the sponge-structure type granule filters was almost similar to that of the disk-type fly ash filters. For both cases, cesium was successfully trapped within the third filter.

The heat generation inside spindles becomes a major factor that limits the allowable maximum rotational speed in machine tools and decreases the cutting quality. It is necessary to accurately estimate the temperature distribution in spindles caused by the heat generation in bearings and its heat transfer characteristics in order to perform the high-speed and high-precision in high-speed spindles. In addition, an accurate correction process is required according to the results of the estimation through investigating the thermal deformation error. A commercial program, MINITAB, was used to establish an experiment plan that analyzes the heat generation characteristics of the spindle system according to the operation and lubrication conditions of the spindle. Also, the change in the outer ring temperature of bearings was measured according to the experimental plan. After establishing a response surface model using the results of the experiment, the estimation equation of the quadratic polynomial model was proposed for determining the optimal lubrication condition. A verification experiment was applied to verify the accuracy of the experimental equation determined by the estimated regression model and the experimental value used in the estimation of the regression model.

In order to enhance the long-term stability of DSA for copper electroplating process, in the present study, noble metal oxides with excellent electrochemical properties was used and optimum condition was determined the ratio of noble metal oxides, surface pre-treatment of titanium substrate and heat treatment. The effect of the surface pretreatment of titanium substrate and ratio of noble metal oxides were estimated by accelerated test at the highly current density conditions. The lifetime of DSA increase six-fold higher as the oxide thickness of Ta 7 : Ir 3 composition ratio. Under the optimal condition, surface pretreatment led to dramatic increase in the lifetime of DSA.

Opis:
Hydrophobic surgical forceps of end-effectors for laparoscopic operations or minimally invasive surgery were developed through powder injection molding (PIM) and surface treatment. Processing conditions for mixing, debinding, and sintering were investigated to produce defect-free components. An optimum solid loading was determined by torque rheometry experiments. The optimized processing conditions for debinding and sintering were designed through the measurement of weight loss and shrinkage behavior by thermogravimetric analysis and dilatometry experiments. After producing the surgical forceps based on the optimized processing conditions via PIM, surface treatment was carried out to generate the hydrophobic structure on the surface.
