Opis:
The failure of sheet pile walls used for temporary works may cause loss of project construction time and money. The failure can be due to lack of knowledge about the soil conditions or a requirement of three dimension analysis, as it may be important for some cases. In this paper a study was made for a big movement during temporary excavation works using sheet pile walls. A back analysis was made using three and two dimensional finite element analysis as well as simple manual calculation in order to find out the causes of the big movement. The results from the analysis was represented and compared with field data and observation. The results from the two dimensional analysis showed higher values than that from three dimensional analysis and both indicated lower results than that from field observation. However the wall movement values deduced from F.E. indicated possible failure. The performed simple manual calculation indicated also failure. The general conclusion was considered that the failure was due to design mistake.

Opis:
The goal of this study is to present a new theory known as the three-temperature memory-dependent derivative (MDD) of ultrasound stress waves in functionally graded anisotropic (FGA) smart materials. It is extremely difficult to address the difficulties related to this theory analytically due to its severe nonlinearity. As a result, we suggest a new boundary element method (BEM) to solve such equations. The suggested BEM technique incorporates the benefits of both continuous and discrete descriptions. The numerical results are visually represented to demonstrate the impacts of MDD three temperatures and anisotropy on the ultrasound stress waves in FGA smart materials. The numerical findings verify the proposed methodology’s validity and accuracy. We may conclude that the offered results are useful for comprehending the FGA smart materials. As a result, our findings contribute to the advancement of the industrial applications of FGA smart materials.

Opis:
This work proposes a systematic assessment of stereophotogrammetry and noise-floor tests to characterize and quantify the uncertainty and accuracy of a vision-based tracking system. Two stereophotogrammetry sets with different configurations, i.e., some images are designed and their sensitivity is quantified based on several assessments. The first assessment evaluates the image coordinates, stereo angle and reconstruction errors resulting from the stereophotogrammetry procedure, and the second assessment expresses the uncertainty from the variance and bias errors measured from the noise-floor test. These two assessments quantify the uncertainty, while the accuracy of the vision-based tracking system is assessed from three quasi-static tests on a small-scaled specimen. The difference in each stereophotogrammetry set and configuration, as indicated by the stereophotogrammetry and noise-floor assessment, leads to a significant result hat the first stereophotogrammetry set measures the RMSE of 3.6 mm while the second set identifies only 1.6 mm of RMSE. The results of this work recommend a careful and systematic assessment of stereophotogrammetry and noise-floor test results to quantify the uncertainty before the real test to achieve a high displacement accuracy of the vision-based tracking system.

Coagulation process is the main process in conventional water treatment process sequence. It influences the following treatment process aspects: maintaining plant efficiency and increasing the quality of the produced water. This is accomplished by adding chemicals to raw water, such as alum sulphate. To secure the appropriate plant performance, a mathematical model is proposed in this paper for the coagulation unit, followed by the development of the control strategy. Classic PID and neural network based controller regulating the process are used. Tests were performed, based on the real data for water treatment, using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Simulation results showed better values for both settling time and overshoot in the case of using neural network based controller than PID.

Spent Nickel–metal hydride batteries can be sources of valuable metals such as nickel, cobalt, manganese, rare earths and toxic chemicals. The recycling of these materials is necessary from both economic and environmental points of view. In this study the nickel is leached in acid solution followed by precipitation and thermal decomposition or by cementation. The affecting parameters such as acid type and concentration, time, temperature and solid/liquid ratio were investigated. The maximum of leached nickel could be obtained in 3M sulfuric acid at 65°C for 60 min with solid-to-liquid ratio of 30 g L-1. The liquid film is a more suitable model for demonstrating the kinetics of the nickel leaching. Thermal decomposition of the precipitated nickel dimethyl-glyoxime was employed in preparation of nickel oxide. Nickel was separated from aqueous solution by cementation on zinc. The cementation process follows pseudo first-order kinetics and diffusion controlling steps. The yield was 91% of the original nickel content.

Six experimental conditions, each involving a variation of massage time, were considered. The dependent variable was the change in the root mean square variation of the EMG signal. One minute of lumbar massage every 5 min was found to have a beneficial effect on low back muscle activity (as compared to no massage). This may prove to be an extremely important result in the quest to combat low back pain attributable to automobile seating.

Opis:
The present study explores magnetic nanoliquid mixed convection in a double lid–driven U-shaped enclosure with discrete heat-ing using the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) numerical method. The nanoliquid thermal conductivity and viscosity are calculated using the Maxwell and Brinkman models respectively. Nanoliquid magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) and mixed convection are analyzed and entropy generation minimisation has been studied. The presented results for isotherms, stream isolines and entropy generation describe the interaction between the various physical phenomena inherent to the problem including the buoyancy, magnetic and shear forces. The operating parameters’ ranges are: Reynolds number (Re: 1–100), Hartman number (Ha: 0–80), magnetic field inclination (γ: 0°–90°), nanoparticles volume fraction (ϕ: 0–0.04) and inclination angle (α: 0°–90°). It was found that the and the total entropy generation augment by increasing Re, ϕ: and γ. conversely, an opposite effect was obtained by increasing Ha and α. The optimum magnetic field and cavity inclination angles to maximum heat transfer are γ = 90° and α = 0.

Opis:
The present study deals with fluid flow, heat transfer and entropy generation in a two-dimensional channel filled with Cu–water nanoliquid and containing a hot block. The nanoliquid flow is driven along the channel by a constant velocity and a cold temperature at the inlet, and the partially heated horizontal walls. The aim of this work is to study the influence of the most important parameters such as nanoparticle volume fraction (0%≤ϕ≤4%), nanoparticle diameter (5 nm≤dp≤55 nm), Reynolds number (50≤Re≤200), Hartmann number (0≤Ha≤90), magnetic field inclination angle (0≤γ≤π) and Brownian motion on the hydrodynamic and thermal characteristics and entropy generation. We used the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM: SRT-BGK model) to solve the continuity, momentum and energy equations. The obtained results show that the maximum value of the average Nusselt number is found for case (3) when the hot block is placed between the two hot walls. The minimum value is calculated for case (2) when the hot block is placed between the two insulated walls. The increase in Reynolds and Hartmann numbers enhances the heat transfer and the total entropy generation. In addition, the nanoparticle diameter increase reduces the heat transfer and the irreversibility, the impact of the magnetic field inclination angle on the heat transfer and the total entropy generation is investigated, and the Brownian motion enhances the heat transfer and the total entropy generation.

In this study the following variables were used as variables gross domestic product, which was the proxy variable of the economic growth, the trade openness and the money supply. Furthermore, in order to test the long run relationship between the variables, the Johansen cointegration technique was employed while, the VECM technique was employed to test the short run behaviour of the trade openness. In this study, both techniques confirmed that the trade openness negatively and significantly had the long run relationship with the economic growth. While, the lag values of the trade openness in short run period, jointly had not impacted on the economic growth over the sample period. Finally, this study recommended to the government of Sri Lanka that the export should be increased when they formulate the trade development policy.

Opis:
Safety of environment and human health is an essential requirement of modern industrial techniques. Therefore, using natural agents in tanning industry may emerge as a trusted method to avoid the chemical contamination caused by using traditional chromium salts in tanning process. This study aimed to evaluate the hot water extract of used coffee grounds (UCGs) as a vegetable tanning agent. The collected UCGs were dried and extracted with hot water at 90 °C for 2h. The phytochemical screening properties of UCGs extract were determined. Sufficient amount of extract was prepared to be used in leather tanning. Three groups were tanned with UCGs extract solely at concentrations of 20, 30 or 40% of pelts’ weight, while another three groups were tanned with the same concentrations and then re-tanned with 10% of a synthetic tanning agent “Phenol sulfonates”. On tanned leathers, organoleptic, physical and chemical properties were determined; scanning electron micrographs were depicted to examine the leather surface and collagen fiber bundles. Analysis of UCGs extract revealed that it has good tanning properties, as it contained tannins (14.92%), tannins/non tannins ratio (2.06), hide powder (39.57) and Stiasny number (21.16). The results of leather properties showed that using UCGs extract alone at concentration of 40% achieved the best results for the vegetable tanning where the tanned leather had higher (P<0.05) tensile strength, tearing strength and shrinking temperature than that treated with the lower level of 20% UCGs extract. However, 40% of UCGs extract is highly recommended to be used to accomplish the required shrinkage temperature that should be ≥ 70 °C. UCGs extract could be successfully used as tanning agent in vegetable tanning to produce durable leathers with good fullness; it may be used for different manufacturing products, such as footwear and bags. Moreover, using a combination of UCGs extract at any of the used concentrations with phenol sulfonates 10% led to significant improvement in all studied traits as compared with using UCGs extract alone.

Blooms of Noctiluca scintillans are reported for the first time in the Red Sea off the south-western coasts of Saudi Arabia. During the present study, surface water samples were collected weekly on the coasts of the Al Shuqayq region from February to April 2004–2006. The abundance of N. scintillans correlated negatively with most nutrients, as well as the cell densities of diatoms and dinoflagellate species. Microscopic examination of live cells from Noctiluca blooms showed the presence of some species of diatoms and dinoflagellates within the Noctiluca body – confirmation of its grazing on these microalgae. The presence of a Noctiluca bloom in the coastal waters off south-western Saudi Arabia could be linked indirectly to water eutrophication by an increase in prey abundance. The physico-chemical properties of Red Sea coastal waters should therefore be monitored regularly in order to minimize the formation of harmful algal blooms, which may affect all food web levels, including the human level.

Opis:
In many regions of the world, including Egypt, water shortages threaten food production. An irrigation deficient strategy in dry areas has been widely investigated as a valuable and sustainable approach to production. In this study, the dry matter and grain yield of wheat was decreased by reducing the amount of irrigation water as well as the volume of the root system. As a result of this, there was an increase the soil moisture stress. This negatively affected the absorption of water and nutrients in the root zone of wheat plants, which ultimately had an effect on the dry matter and grain yield of wheat. The values of dry matter and grain yield of wheat increased with the ʻSakha 94ʼ variety compared to the ʻSakha 93ʼ class. It is possible that this was due to the increase in the genetic characteristic of the root size with the ʻSakha 94ʼ variety compared to the ʻSakha 93ʼ class, as this increase led to the absorption of water and nutrients from a larger volume of root spread. Despite being able to increase the water productivity of wheat by decreasing the amount of added irrigation water, the two highest grain yield values were achieved when adding 100% and 80% of irrigation requirements (IR) needed to irrigate the wheat and no significant differences between the yield values at 100% and 80% of IR were found. Therefore, in accordance with this study, the recommended irrigation for wheat is at 80% IR which will provide 20% IR. When comparing the water productivity of two wheat varieties in study, it becomes clear that ʻSakha 94ʼ was superior to ʻSakha 93ʼ when adding the same amount of irrigation water, and this resulted in increased wheat productivity for ʻSakha 94ʼ. The SALTMED results confirmed good accuracy (R2: 0.92 to 0.98) in simulating soil moisture, roots volume, water application efficiency, dry matter, and grain yield for two varieties of wheat under deficit irrigation conditions. Whilst using sprinkler irrigation system under sandy soils in Egypt.

Opis:
The aim of the present study was to find the phonological errors on segmental level involving selected consonant sounds which are produced by Kimakunduchi speaking English as Foreign Language (EFL) learners in Zanzibar. Specifically, the study sought to provide the evidence of cross-linguistic influence involving phonological transfer on segmental level. The study employed two sampling techniques: stratified and random sampling. The data for this study were collected from three secondary schools located at Makunduchi district in Unguja Island – Makunduchi, Kusini, and Kizimkazi secondary schools – using the oral interview and observation. The data were analyzed with the use of both qualitative and quantitative research approach. The study was guided by the transfer theory which was one of the components of Selinker’s (1992: 209) interlanguage theory. The findings revealed that, to a large extent, native Kimakunduchi speakers of EFL tended to transfer the sounds existing in their L1, or even in Kiswahili, into English. The transfer was done because of the nonexistence of the particular sound in the students’ native language or because of the discrepancy of spelling and pronunciation in English language. The study concludes that an articulation of vowels is more complex compared to consonants because of their absence in the first language (L1) or because of the confusion of spelling and pronunciation in English as FL. Thus, the study recommended that serious measures should be taken from both education holders to make sure that the learners could be able to pronounce English phonemes/words correctly.

Opis:
A fish-infecting myxosporean was found in the urinary bladder of the teleostean Colomesus psittacus, collected from the Amazon River, Brazil. Specimens were sampled in three different periods: May and June, with water temperature ranging from 18–23ºC; August, with water temperature ranging from 24–28ºC; and November and December, with water temperature ranging from 29–32ºC. Upon observation, several fish displayed abnormal behaviour, consisting of erratic movements, and mortality was recorded among them. Necropsy of all sampled fishes revealed hypertrophy of the urinary bladder only among specimens previously displaying the irregular behaviour. Microscopic analysis of this organ confirmed the parasitic infection, resulting in the observation of spores floating free in the urine, and numerous plasmodia attached to the epithelium of the urinary bladder. Light and ultrastructural studies allowed recognition of the spores and plasmodia morphological characteristics. Coelozoic plasmodia were polysporic with varying organizational structure, according to the sampling period. Spores were equilaterally triangular with rounded ends in valvar view, measuring 8.8 ± 0.4 μm (n = 30) in length and 8.4 ± 0.5 μm (n = 30) in width, and displaying a ridge surface pattern. Two polar capsules were observed in the anterior end of the spores, measuring 3.1–3.2 μm in diameter. The spores were morphologically identified as belonging to the recently described genus Triangulamyxa. Further observation and comparison to the morphological features described for Triangulamyxa amazonica, the only other species within this genus, allowed us to conclude our parasite as a new species, herein named Triangulamyxa psittaca sp. nov. from the Amazon River, Brazil. Also, three different stages were distinguished in the plasmodium evolution, based on the observed morphological features at the three sampling periods. Fish sampled during May and June displayed small plasmodia (up to ~ 15–20 μm long), containing early stages of sporogenic development. Fish sampled during November and December presented larger plasmodia (up to ~ 850 μm long), which appeared flattened against and lining the urinary bladder epithelial cells and contained the later stages of sporogenic development, including some mature spores. Fish sampled during August presented plasmodia displaying intermediate morphological features between those observed in infected fish from the other sampling periods. Several immature and mature spores were among the different developmental stages. The parasite-host interface evolution is described throughout the different observed stages, with emphasis on the formation of septate junctions. Considering several previous reports, as well as the different environmental conditions during the sampling periods, the plasmodium development here described appears to be influenced by environmental factors, namely water temperature.

The continuous growth of smart communities and ever-increasing demand of sending or storing videos, have led to consumption of huge amount of data. The video compression techniques are solving this emerging challenge. However, H.264 standard can be considered most notable, and it has proven to meet problematic requirements. The authors present (BPMM) as a novel efficient Intra prediction scheme. We can say that the creation of our proposed technique was in a phased manner; it's emerged as a proposal and achieved impressive results in the performance parameters as compression ratios, bit rates, and PSNR. Then in the second stage, we solved the challenges of overcoming the obstacle of encoding bits overhead. In this research, we try to address the final phase of the (BPMM) codec and to introduce our approach in a global manner through realization of decoding mechanism. For evaluation of our scheme, we utilized VHDL as a platform. Final results have proven our success to pass bottleneck of this phase, since the decoded videos have the same PSNR that our encoder tells us, while preserving steady compression ratio treating the overhead. We aspire our BPMM algorithm will be adopted as reference design of H.264 in the ITU.

The distribution and abundance of dinoflagellate cyst assemblages were investigated in surface sediments from south-western Red sea coasts of Saudi Arabia at six sites during March 2010. A total of 19 taxa of dinoflagellate cysts were identified from all sites. The sampling sites showed a similar cyst assemblage, but they differed in total cyst abundance (3 to 4083 cysts g−1 dry weight). Cyst abundance was strongly correlated with sediment characteristics, the highest numbers being recorded in sediments with large contents of organic carbon, silt and clay. Cyst assemblages were dominated by cysts of potentially toxic species, including Cochlodinium polykrikos, Prorocentrum minimum, Dinophysis acuminata, Alexandrium catenella and Scrippsiella trochoidea. Most cysts germinated successfully at different rates at 15 and 25◦C. This study suggests that surface sediments from all Saudi Red Sea coasts should be monitored for the presence of dinoflagellate cysts to give ample warning of the presence and abundance of toxic species in a given area.

Opis:
In May 2010 a copious bloom of the raphidophyte Heterosigma akashiwo was observed for the first time in Red Sea waters off the coasts of Saudi Arabia. This bloom was confined to an area where water and phytoplankton flow freely between the sea and a shrimp farm. The phytoplankton density and physico-chemical characteristics of the sea water were therefore investigated weekly at bloom and non-bloom sites in order to gain insight into the environmental factors prevailing at the bloom site and their link with the shrimp farm runoff. The bloom site showed higher nutrient concentrations than the non-bloom site, indicating the possible role of the shrimp farm in flushing nutrients into this site. The bloom appeared on 27 May, coinciding with a decrease in salinity (<300/00) and an increase in temperature (>19◦C). The results of toxicological assays showed that both bloom samples and batch cultures of H. akashiwo were toxic to Artemia salina and exhibited haemolytic activity with respect to rabbit erythrocytes. Bloom samples showed a higher toxicity (LC50 = 8.9 × 104 cells ml−1) and haemolytic activity (EC50 = 3.64 × 104 cells ml−1) than the batch cultures (LC50 =11.6×104 cells ml−1, EC50 =5.1×104 cells ml−1). In the light of the results of this study, the link between H. akashiwo blooms and shrimp farm runoff should be considered during the monitoring of Red Sea coastal waters for the presence of harmful algal blooms.

Nominal strength reduction in cross ply laminates of [0/90]2s is observed in tensile tests of glass fiber composite laminates having central open hole of diameters varying from 2 to 10 mm. This is well known as the size effect. The extended finite element method (XFEM) is implemented to simulate the fracture process and size effect (scale effect) in the glass fiber reinforced polymer laminates weakened by holes or notches. The analysis shows that XFEM results are in good agreement with the experimental results specifying nominal strength and in good agreement with the analytical results based on the cohesive zone model specifying crack opening displacement and the fracture process zone length.

Jest to dobrze znany efekt rozmiaru (efekt skali). Rozszerzona analiza metodą elementów skończonych (XFEM) została zastosowana w celu symulacji procesu pękania i efektu skali w polimerowych laminatach z włóknem szklanym osłabionych obecnością karbu lub otworu. Opis:
Rivers are considered the most important sources of surface water on Earth. They are play a significant role in all human activities and the quality of river water is needed. Therefore, the importance of the water quality index is arising through providing data base about quality of the water source, and explain the change in the water quality over a period of time continually. This study involved determination of physicochemical and biological parameters of Lower Zab river in Kirkuk city at two different points. The objectives of the study are to assess the present water quality, through analysis of some selected water quality parameters like pH, TDS, BOD, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, EC, alkalinity, and salinity etc. and to compare the results with the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment and National Sanitation Foundation Water Quality Indices. Raw water samples were collected from the Lower Zab river twice a month by one sample every 15 days from each station. The water quality data include 16 different parameters. Tests were carried out following the American Public Health Association standard methods. The results show that all parameters values were within the standards of drinking water proposed by the CCME standards and Iraqi standards or the World Health Organization standards for drinking purpose, except turbidity, DO, nitrate, calcium, which were mostly higher than the standards and sometimes BOD and potassium. The results of WQI showed that the water quality at LZ3 station is lower than LZ2 station due to the polluting activity of the Lower Zab river. Furthermore, for the years 2014, 2015, and 2016, the water quality was degraded due to the ISIS war. Also, it was noted in the 2013 year that the water quality degraded more in fall and winter seasons due to that the earth has exposed to the long-dried season and then suddenly exposed to a high rainfall season which in turns leads to increase some parameters very high (i.e. turbidity). Finally, the Lower Zab river water cannot be use for drinking directly. However, a pretreatment is needed before the drinking use.

Genus Perkinsus Levine, 1978 (Alveolata, Perkinsidae) an intracellular pathogenic parasite is described from the mantle and gill filaments of a commercially important clam, Meretrix meretrix, collected from the Arabian Gulf, Saudi Arabia. This genus contains currently seven named species: P. marinus, P. olseni (P. atlanticus), P. chesapeaki (P. andrewsi), P. mediterraneus, P. honshuensis, P. beihaiensis and P. qugwadi. Meanwhile, some unnamed Perkinsus sp. have been described in wide variety of mollusc species. Ultrastructural features of Perkinsus sp. trophozites and the host reaction are described. The different developmental stages of trophozoites appeared as single or grouped cells surrounded by amorphous material that constituted cysts or nodules randomly distributed throughout the connective tissue of the mantle. The early trophozoites were generally spherical to ellipsoidal with a circular nucleus containing a prominent central nucleolus. The cytoplasm had several small vacuoles which coalesce to form a great vacuole in the later trophozoites and the nucleus becomes eccentric. Some lomosomes were observed between the wall and the plasmalemma of trophozoites. A large number of degraded and pyknotic cell and several cellular structure with lysed aspects were encountered in the surrounding area near the cysts. Ultrastructural data showed that the lysed granular cells and the coalescence of the granules result in the cyst that encapsulates various trophozoites. In the current study, we describe for the first time the presence of Perkinsus sp. as well as the host reaction in clams from the Saudi Arabian coasts.

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer affecting humans. Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer; and early diagnosis is extremely vital in curing the disease. So far, the human knowledge in this field is very limited, thus, developing a mechanism capable of identifying the disease early on can save lives, reduce intervention and cut unnecessary costs. In this paper, the researchers developed a new learning technique to classify skin lesions, with the purpose of observing and identifying the presence of melanoma. This new technique is based on a convolutional neural network solution with multiple configurations; where the researchers employed an International Skin Imaging Collaboration (ISIC) dataset. Optimal results are achieved through a convolutional neural network composed of 14 layers. This proposed system can successfully and reliably predict the correct classification of dermoscopic lesions with 97.78% accuracy.

In the last few years, a great attention was paid to the deep learning Techniques used for image analysis because of their ability to use machine learning techniques to transform input data into high level presentation. For the sake of accurate diagnosis, the medical field has a steadily growing interest in such technology especially in the diagnosis of melanoma. These deep learning networks work through making coarse segmentation, conventional filters and pooling layers. However, this segmentation of the skin lesions results in image of lower resolution than the original skin image. In this paper, we present deep learning based approaches to solve the problems in skin lesion analysis using a dermoscopic image containing skin tumor. The proposed models are trained and evaluated on standard benchmark datasets from the International Skin Imaging Collaboration (ISIC) 2018 Challenge. The proposed method achieves an accuracy of 96.67% for the validation set. The experimental tests carried out on a clinical dataset show that the classification performance using deep learning-based features performs better than the state-of-the-art techniques.

Quinoa plants, originating from the Andean mountains in South America, have a large scale of biological diversity. Along with the cultivation favorableness of quinoa, it reveals superior nutrition aspects. In comparison with cereal crops, like rice, maize, and wheat, quinoa seeds contain valuable quantities of protein of remarkable quality. The current study compared four quinoa cultivars from different origins in terms of protein composition and germinability. In addition, this study focused on the effect of different geographical cultivation areas on the protein composition of wild Egyptian quinoa seeds and three other cultivars that vary in their cultivation origins. Significant differences were observed among the quinoa varieties in the germination percentage (GP), shoot length (SL), and root length (RL). Using the technology of Near-InfraRed Spectroscopy, the highest protein value was recorded for the American variety (18.39%), followed by the Wild Egyptian variety (17.16%). The aromatic phenylalanine recorded the highest concentration of the essential amino acid bulk. The Rainbow variety contained 12.7 g-aa/kg protein, followed by the wild Egyptian variety with 4.9 g-aa/kg protein. In turn, glutamic was the most abundant amino acid of the non-essential amino acids, with 10.1, 4, 23.4, and 4 (g-aa/kg protein) for quinoa varieties, Wild Egyptian, American, Rainbow, Black, respectively. SDS-PAGE was used to identify the allelic variations in the seed storage protein profiles among the studied quinoa varieties. The studied quinoa varieties showed 23.81% of the polymorphism in the protein bands, with the mean band frequency of 0.881. The resulting protein bands fluctuated in the range between 115.02 and 16 kDa. With a similarity percentage (90%), Wild Egyptian and the Rainbow quinoa varieties can be classified in one clade.

Opis:
This paper emphasizes on analysing and predicting the reliability of an automobile crankshaft by analysing the time to failure (TTF) through the parametric distribution function. The TTF was modelled to predict the likelihood of failure for crankshaft during its operational condition over a given time interval through the development of the stochastic algorithm. The developed stochastic algorithm has the capability to measure the parametric distribution function and validate the predict the reliability rate, mean time to failure and hazard rate. T, the algorithm has the capability to statistically validate the algorithm to obtain the optimal parametric model to represent the failure of the component against the actual time to failure data from the local automobile industry. Hence, the validated results showed that the three parameter Weibull distribution provided an accurate and efficient foundation in modelling the reliability rate when compared with the actual sampling data. The suggested parametric distribution function can be used to improve the design and the life cycle due to its capability in accelerating and decelerating the mechanism of failure based on time without adjusting the level of stress. Therefore, an understanding of the parametric distribution posed by the reliability and hazard rate onto the component can be used to improve the design and increase the life cycle based on the dependability of the component over a given period of time. The proposed reliability assessment through the developed stochastic algorithm provides an accurate, efficient, fast and cost effective reliability analysis in contrast to costly and lengthy experimental techniques.
Algorytm daje możliwość statystycznej weryfikacji modelu w odniesieniu do rzeczywistych danych dotyczących czasu do uszkodzenia pochodzących z lokalnego przemysłu samochodowego. Weryfikacja taka pozwala na otrzymanie optymalnego modelu parametrycznego reprezentującego uszkodzenie części składowej. Zweryfikowane wyniki wykazały, że trójparametrowy rozkład Weibulla stanowi dokładne i wydajne narzędzie do modelowania współczynnika niezawodności w zestawieniu z rzeczywistymi danymi z próby. Proponowana metoda oceny niezawodności z wykorzystaniem opracowanego w artykule algorytmu stochastycznego umożliwia dokładną, wydajną, szybką i tanią analizę niezawodności w odróżnieniu od kosztownych i czasochłonnych technik eksperymentalnych.

The problem considered is that of an isotropic, micropolar thermoelastic medium with voids subjected to the Thomson effect. The solution to the problem is presented in the context of the refined multiphase-lags theory of thermoelasticity. The normal mode analysis was used to obtain the analytical expressions of the considered variables. The nondimensional displacement, temperature, microrotation, the change in the volume fraction field and stress of the material are obtained and illustrated graphically. The variations of these quantities have been depicted graphically in the refined-phase-lag theory, Green and Naghdi theory of type II, Lord and Shulman theory and a coupled theory. The effects of the Thomson parameter and phase lag parameters on a homogeneous, isotropic, micropolar thermoelastic material with voids are revealed and discussed. Some particular cases of interest are deduced from the present investigation.

Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) isolated from the rhizosphere soil of eight field crops at different locations in Egypt were identified. Rhizobacteria strains were identified as Bacillus endophyticus AW1 5, B. filamentosus EM9, ET3, Micrococcus luteus KT2, FW9, FC13, SaW4, Enterobacter cloacae SK18, Pseudomonas azotoformans TPo10, Citrobacter braakii TC3. All isolates solubilised insoluble phosphate and produced IAA, while only six were able to produce siderophores in vitro. Vegetative growth and yield of wheat cv. ‘Sakha 94’ were enhanced after the application of single inoculation of each isolate compared to the control. Grain yield was increased by 20.7-96.5% over the control according to bacterial isolates. Available phosphorus (P) and counts of total bacteria in soil were observed to be significantly increased in treatments than in control. After the wheat harvest, soil pH was observed to be decreased, and a highly significant negative correlation was observed between soil pH and the levels of available phosphorus. Significant increases in grain and straw yields, as well as uptake of nitrogen (N) and P by plants, were observed due to inoculation with PGPR isolates. Levels of photosynthetic pigments, free amino acids, free phenolics, and reducing sugars in flag leaf and spikes were significantly enhanced by the application of all PGPR isolates compared to the control. Thus this study identifies the PGPR isolates for the improvement of the growth, yield, and quality of wheat. The study may be also useful for field evaluation under different soils and environmental conditions before generalising PGPR isolates as biofertilisers.

Potato virus Y (PVY) is one of the most destructive viruses infecting potato in Egypt and worldwide. Recent research has shown that a necrotic PVY-NTN strain is infecting potato in Upper Egypt. Chemical control is not effective to control this viral pathogen. An alternative to control PVY infecting potato is using a mild PVY strain to elicit systemic cross protection in potato plants against infection with a severe necrotic strain of PVY. Results of this study showed that a PVY necrotic strain produced a significant lesser number of local lesions on diagnostic plants (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) when these plants were treated first with a mild PVY strain. Data obtained from greenhouse and field experiments indicated that treatment of potato plants (variety Burna) with a mild PVY strain significantly protected potato from infection with a severe necrotic PVY strain, and resulted in a significant increase in tuber yield compared with infected plants without prior treatment with a mild PVY strain. The highest increase in potato tuber yield was obtained when potato plants were inoculated with a mild PVY strain 3 days before challenging with the severe necrotic PVY strain. This study proved that using a mild strain of PVY can significantly protect potato plants from infection with a severe strain of this virus under both greenhouse and field conditions and can present a potential method to reduce losses due to infection of this virus in Assiut governorate and Upper Egypt.

This paper examines firms’ target adjustment behavior for debt maturity structure for selected countries from the Asia Pacific region. The literature documents that managers’ structure debt issues in line with a target maturity structure which is limited by transactions costs, information asymmetry, agency problems, liquidity needs as well as institutional factors. Our paper contends that firms adjust to target levels at differing rates based on whether the current maturity structure is above or below target levels as well as equity mispricing. We estimate the target debt maturity based on the lead level and measure speed of adjustment to target levels by regressing the difference between the simulated and actual values. Our findings indicate that firms which are below target debt maturity tend to adjust at more rapid rates during periods of overvaluation. Firms which are above target debt maturity tend to adjust at more rapid rates during periods of undervaluation. Our findings indicate asymmetric adjustment rates indicating that debt maturity structure serves as an important tool for signaling. The implications provide a better understanding on the impact of debt maturity on information asymmetry leading to differences in adjustment to target debt maturity structures.
Implikacje te zapewniają lepsze zrozumienie wpływu dojrzałości długu na asymetrię informacyjną prowadzącą do różnic w dostosowaniu do docelowych struktur zapadalności długu.

Economists believe the interest rate is an interim agent for savings, which promotes the people to lose their present consumption continuously. So, this study also assumed that there was a relationship between the interest rate and savings. Based on that, the objective of this study was to explore the interest rate dynamics on savings in Sri Lank over the period of 1977 to 2017. In this study annual time series data for the following variables: interest rate, savings, and gross domestic product were used, and the Johansen and Juselius cointegration technique was employed to test the cointegration relationship between the variables. In this study, interest rate was considered as key independent variable and savings was dependent variable. Both Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) and Kwiatkowski – Phillips – Schmidt – Shin tests were employed to test the stationarity of the variables. In terms of these tests, all variable were stationary at first difference level. Furthermore, interest rate and savings had the long run relationship and there was short-run causality between interest rate and savings which was confirmed by the results of Vector Error Correction model (VECM). Therefore, the interest rate had long - run and short - run relationship on the savings in Sri Lanka. Finally, this study recommends the policy makers should consider interest rate friendly policy to boost the savings in Sri Lanka.

Budget deficit is a debating word in developing countries; it maintains a relationship with economic growth of countries in different aspects. The objective of this study was to test the dynamic relationship between the budget deficit and the economic growth of Sri Lanka using annual time series data from 1959 to 2013.To test this objective, the budget deficit of Sri Lanka was used as main independent variable and the gross domestic product in constant price was utilized as dependent variable. The exports earnings, exchange rate, inflation rate were used supportive independent variables of this study. The Johansen cointegration technique and Vector Error Correction Model were employed to test the long and short - run dynamic relationship between the budget deficit and the economic growth of Sri Lanka. This study found that all variables were cointegrated at 1st difference form. In the meantime the budget deficit and economic growth of Sri Lanka had preserved a long- run dynamic relationship during the study period but no short- run dynamic relationship. In addition, the budget deficit had positive relationship with economic growth of Sri Lanka.

Indeed, consumption expenditure is a very important element of increasing the economic growth, which was confirmed by enough empirical studies in different countries. But in Sri Lanka there is no evidence regarding the relationship between the consumption expenditure and economic growth. In order to test this relationship, this study used both multiple regression and Johansen and Juselius cointegration techniques by using time series data during the period of 1975 to 2014 of the following variables: exports, gross domestic product, consumption expenditure of households, and official development assistant. In this study, both techniques confirmed that the consumption expenditure positively impact on the economic growth and moves with the economic growth in the long - run period. Thus, this study strongly confirmed that the consumption expenditure in Sri Lanka induces the economic growth over the sample period. Therefore, this study recommends, if the policy makers should develop the policy to promote the consumption expenditure, the economic growth should be positively moved, so policy makers have to design consumption promotion policy.

Surge flow irrigation is one of the irrigation techniques for controlling furrow irrigation. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of surge furrow irrigation on water management compared with continuous irrigation for different tillage systems. An experimental field was treated with various tillage systems (mouldboard plough, chisel plough and rotary plough) and water irrigation application methods (continuous flow, control) in which irrigation water was applied continuously, and surge flow (3-surges, 4-surges and 5-surges) in which irrigation water was applied intermittently until it reached the tail end of the furrow. The results showed that water savings obtained using the surge technique were 18.58, 11.84 and 18.93% lower water use than with continuous flow, for the mouldboard, chisel and rotary ploughs, respectively. The 3-surges treatment with the rotary plough reduced the advance time by 25.36% from that for continuous irrigation. The 4-surges treatment with the mouldboard plough had the highest water application efficiency (88.13%). The 3-surges treatment with the rotary plough had the highest distribution uniformity (85.01%). The rotary plough did not cause as much soil aeration around the root system as the other tillage systems. The field research provided information about surge flow, aimed at reducing advance times and increasing irrigation efficiency.

On-chip optical-interconnect technology emerges as an attractive approach due to its ultra-large bandwidth and ultra-low power consumption. Silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wire waveguides, on the other hand, have been identified to potentially replace copper wires for intra-chip communication. To take advantage of the wide bandwidth of SOI waveguides, wavelengthdivision multiplexing (WDM) has been implemented. However, WDM have inherent drawbacks. Mode-division multiplexing (MDM) is a viable alternative to WDM in MIMO photonic circuits on SOI as it requires only one carrier wavelength to operate. In this vein, mode converters are key components in on-chip MDM systems. The goal of this paper is to introduce a transverse electric mode converter. The suggested device can convert fundamental transverse electric modes to first-order transverse electric ones and vice versa. It is based on small material perturbation which introduces gradual coupling between different modes. This device is very simple and highly compact; the size of which is 3 μm². Mathematical expressions for both the insertion loss and crosstalk are derived and optimized for best performance. In addition, three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain (3D-FDTD) simulations are performed in order to verify the mathematical model of the device. Our numerical results reveal that the proposed device has an insertion loss of 1.2 dB and a crosstalk of 10.1 dB. The device’s insertion loss can be decreased to 0.95 dB by adding tapers to its material perturbation.

Opis:
Nanocrystalline $Sn_{1-x}Fe_xO_2$ (where x = 0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03 and 0.04) powders have been successfully synthesized by the hydrothermal method followed by sintering at 1000°C for 3 h. The morphology and structure of the samples have been analyzed by field emission scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction, respectively. X-ray diffraction results revealed that all diffraction peaks positions agree well with the reflection of a tetragonal rutile structure of SnO₂ phase without extra peaks. The formation of a tetragonal rutile structure of SnO₂ nanostructures was further supported by the Raman spectra. The band gap of Fe-doped SnO₂ nanoparticles was estimated from the diffuse reflectance spectra using the Kubelka-Munk function and it was decreasing slightly with the increase of Fe ion concentration from 3.59 to 3.52 eV. The variation in band gap is attributed predominantly to the lattice strain and particle size. The presence of chemical bonding was confirmed by the Fourier transform infrared spectra.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of different compression modalities as to recovery enhancement on some biomarkers in wrestlers. Serum creatinine, lactic acid and glucose level were tested in elite wrestlers before a match-up, 3 minutes post-match up and 19 minutes after applying recovery compression model. The results showed insignificant differences between pre-post 3-minutes tests among research groups due to sample equality, 3-minutes and 19-minutes post match up tests showed efficacy of compression technique in enhancing recovery in sake of 160/20 mmHg compression modality with enhancement percentage of 16.614% for serum creatinine, 43.214% for lactic acid and 22.505% for glucose level. The compression band with 160/20 mmHg exceeds recovery after match-up.
