Opis:
Ethanollic extract of Phyllanthus amarus (EEPA) was tested as corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in 2 M HCl solution using gravimetric and gasometric methods at 303, 313, 323 K and 333 K. The results revealed that the corrosion rate increases with temperature and time. Addition of the concentration of ethanollic extract of Phyllanthus amarus to the corroding environment lowered the corrosion rate of mild steel and increased inhibition efficiency (IE %) of ethanollic extract. Inhibition efficiency was found to decreased with temperature. Fitting of the experimental data to the Arrhenius and Transition state equations revealed that the Organic constituents of the extract were physically adsorbed on the corroding surface of the steel and adsorption of ethanollic extract of Phyllanthus amarus (EEPA) on mild steel surface was found to obey the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and Freundlich adsorption isotherm and sign of the Gibb’s fee energy of the adsorption obtained suggested that inhibitor molecules have been spontaneously adsorbed onto the mild steel surface. Positive values obtained for enthalpy change indicated that the adsorption of inhibitor is endothermic.

Opis:
Plant extracts have been used widely with and without chemical modification for various infectious diseases cause by bacterial activities. All the methanolic plant extract of Sclerocarya birrea showed anti-microbial activities against most of the test organism with some showing a better antibacterial and antifungal activities than others. The leave from Kem has the minimum bactericidal/fungicidal concentration of 50 mg/ml for E. coli, 100 mg/ml for C. albican and S. aureus but A. niger has 200 mg/ml whereas on the other hand from Yola S. aureus, C. albican, A. niger and E. coli has 100 mg/ml. The stem has the minimum bactericidal and fungicidal concentration of 50 mg/ml for E. coli, S. aureus and 100 mg/ml for C. albican and A. niger and on the other hand from Yola has 100 mg/ml for E. coli, S. aureus and 200 mg/ml for C. albican and A. niger. The roots from Kem has 50 mg/ml for E. coli and S. aureus and 100 mg/ml for C. albican and A. niger and from Yola has 100 mg/ml for E. coli, S. aureus, C. albican and A. niger has 200 mg/ml. This shows that the stem and roots of Sterculia Setigera is more sensitive to the tested organism and is bactericidal at low concentration. The leaves extract in both locations has the MIC of 50 mg/ml for E. coli, S. aureus and C. albican but 100 mg/ml for A. niger. The stem extract from Kem has the MIC of 25 mg/ml for bacteria and 50 mg/ml for fungi and on the other hand from Yola, the extract has MIC of 50 mg/ml for E. coli, S. aureus and C. albican but 100 mg/ml for A. niger. The root showed different minimum inhibitory concentration from Kem, the extract has 25 mg/ml for bacteria and 50 mg/ml for fungi. On the other hand, the extract from Yola has 50 mg/ml for bacteria and 100 mg/ml for fungi. Finally, the limit of detection for both plants collected from two different geographical areas for inhibitory effect has been measured successfully.

We study the bound state solutions of the Klein-Gordon equation with Woods-Saxon plus attractive inversely quadratic potential using the parametric Nikiforov-Uvarov Method. We obtained the bound state energy eigenvalues and the corresponding normalized eigen functions expressed in terms of hypergeometric functions. Two special cases of this potential are discussed.

The solutions of the Schrӧdinger equation with Manning-Rosen plus a class of Yukawa potential (MRCYP) have been presented using the Pekeris-like approximation and parametric Nikiforov-Uvarov (NU) method. The bound state energy eigenvalues and the corresponding un-normalized eigen functions are obtained in terms of Jacobi polynomials. Also, inversely quadratic Yukawa, Yukawa, Manning-Rosen and coulomb potentials have been recovered from the mixed potential and their Eigen values obtained. The Numerical results are computed for some values of n at l = 0 with α = 0.01, 0.1, 2 and 5 using python 3.6 programming, and these results could be applied to molecules moving under the influence of MRYP potential as negative energy eigenvalues obtained indicate a bound state system.

Opis:
This work was aimed at investigating the metal contents of ashed and unashed shell powders of snail (Achatina fulica). The snails were collected and treated according to the American Society for Testing and Material (ASTM D482-91). Potassium (K), Sodium (Na), Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg), Zinc (Zn) and Iron (Fe) in the ashed and unashed snail shell powder was determined. The result showed that the concentration of the metals in the unashed snail shell powder was higher than that of the ashed powder. The differences in the concentration of the metals was linked to the effect of ashing on the formation of silicates of the metals at high temperature (800 °C). At very high temperature, Ca (in the form of calcium carbonate) had very high concentration in both the ashed and unashed snail shell powder. This indicates that snail shell powder can be used as filler in paper industry to improve the paper opacity, or in the cosmetic industry as face powder.

Opis:
The inhibition of mild steel corrosion in 1 M sulphuric acid media by ethanolic extracts of Ipomoea batatas was investigated using the gravimetric and gasometric methods. The extracts recorded an inhibition efficiency of 61.1 % and 52.6 % at room temperature for the gravimetry and the gasometry respectively. The inhibition process was initiated by the physical adsorption of the inhibitor extracts to the metal surface and the data obtained fitted very well into the Langmuir adsorption isotherm.

Opis:
This research investigated the inhibition behavior of Spondias mombin leaf (SML) extracts in 0.1 M HCl solution on mild steel at various concentrations and temperatures. The result reveals that the inhibition efficiency of the extract on the mild steel sheet increases with increasing concentration of the extract and decreases with increase in temperature. Therefore, the adsorption mechanism of the extract on the mild steel surface is physical. Calculated Correlation Coefficient (R2) values show that the process follows a Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The proposed temperature coefficient equation of adsorption mechanism was found to be appropriate.

Opis:
Oil was extracted from the dehulled seeds of Lagneraria siceraria (bottle gourd) and analysed for physico-chemical properties, as well a fatty acid composition. Standard procedures were employed in all analysis. The seed oil was liquid at room temperature with percentage yield (23.65%). The oil was characterized in terms of specific gravity (0.918 g/cm3), refractive index (1.34), viscosity (26.46 X 103 poise), melting point (11-14.5 °C), moisture content (0.18%), saponification value (203.36 mg KOH/g), unsaponifiable matter (7.13%), iodine value (46.1 g/100g), peroxide value (7.5 meq/kg), free fatty acid value (18.42%), acid value (60.02 mg KOH/g) and ester value (143.34 mg KOH/g). It was also classified as non- drying (iodine value ˂115 g/100 g). The peroxide value indicates that the oil is less prone to rancidity with iodine value less than 30meq/kg. The high saponification value qualifies it for use in the manufacture of soaps and shampoos. Four classes of fatty acid were identified in the oil: palmitic acid (C16:1) (13.5 ± 0.21), stearic acid (C18:1) (6.5 ± 0.96), oleic acid (C18:1) (11.6 ± 0.62) and linoleic acid (C18:2) (68.4 ± 0.13). Linoleic acid was the most abundant fatty acid in the oil. The fatty acid content of the oil reveals that L. Siceraria seed oil could be a rich source of oil for domestic and industrial purposes if exploited.
