Opis:
We present an alternative method to detect and measure the concentration changes in liquid solutions. The method uses Digital Holographic Interferometry (DHI) and is based on measuring refractive index variations. The first hologram is recorded when a wavefront from light comes across an ordinary cylindrical glass container filled with a liquid solution. The second hologram is recorded after slight changing the liquid’s concentration. Differences in phase obtained from the correlation of the first hologram with the second one provide information about the refractive index variation, which is directly related to the changes in physical properties related to the concentration. The method can be used − with high sensitivity, accuracy, and speed − either to detect adulterations or to measure a slight change of concentration in the order of 0.001 moles which is equivalent to a difference of 0.003 g of sodium chloride in solutions. The method also enables to measure and calculate the phase difference among each pixel of two samples. This makes it possible to generate a global measurement of the phase difference of the entire sensed region.

The aim of this paper is to provide a simple method for the definition of a rudder for tuna purse seiners. The model achieved by the application of this method ensures the manoeuvrability of initial turning, course keeping and yaw checking. For this, the results obtained by other authors, through rudder tests and manoeuvrability tests of fishing vessels have been integrated with the recommendations of the International Normative. Finally, in the paper the method is applied to the case of a tuna vessel, providing a rudder model which could be optimised with CFD (Computer Fluid Dynamics) in further tests. The method proposed can be applied to other vessels whose main dimensions are met.

Most of the heterocorals described up to now from strata older than Famennian are of doubtful affinities. Numerous specimens of the new genus and new species here described were collected during a sedimentological study of the Santa Lucía Formation in La Pola de Gordon (León province, Cantabrian Mountains, NW Spain). Stellaphyllia luciensis gen. et sp. nov. is characterized by cylindrical coralla, with a diameter of less than 2 mm and more than 2 cm long, having stellate to more or less rounded outer profile. Four to six septa, less frequently seven, are cojoined axially by a short oblique septum. The few tabulae present are steeply arched. The microstructure of the septa and interseptal elements shows thin elongate microlamellae parallel to a median plate which is granular in appearance. The new genus dated to the lower Eifelian age could be important in understanding the early phylogeny and origin of the order Heterocorallia.

Opis:
Recycling is helping to reduce environmental risks and damages. Liquid lead is recovered from batteries in stirred batch reactors. Nevertheless it is necessary to establish parameters to evaluate mixing performance in order to make more efficient the industrial practices. Then this work is dedicated to simulate fluid hydro-dynamics in a lead stirred reactor by monitoring the distribution of an injected tracer to find the best injection point. Different injected points have been evaluated monitoring the tracer concentration on a group of points inside the batch to verify mixing. The tracer is assumed as ideal (with the same physical properties than lead). The reactor is a batch with two geometrical sections one cylindrical body and a semispherical on the bottom. The impeller used to promote lead stirring is a shaft with four flat blades. The tracer concentration on the monitoring points is averaged to evaluate the efficiency all around the reactor. Finally invariability of tracer concentration on the monitoring points is adopted as the criterion to evaluate mixing.
Recykling pomaga zredukować ryzyko i szkody związane ze środowiskiem. Ciekły ołów z baterii odnawiany jest w reaktorze mieszalnikowym okresowym. Niemniej jednak, ważne jest by tak ustawić parametry, żeby ocenić skuteczność mieszania, a co za tym idzie, zwiększyć wydajność w praktykach przemysłowych. Następnie w artykule znajdujemy najlepsze miejsce do iniekcji przy użyciu symulacji dynamiki wodnej w płynie w reaktorze mieszalnikowym ołowiu, dzięki obserwacji ruchów wprowadzonego pierwiastka znaczonego. Różne punkty iniekcji zostały sprawdzone i monitorują pierwiastek znaczony w grupie punktów znajdujących się w reaktorze by zweryfikować mieszanie. Z założenia pierwiastek jest idealny (z tymi samymi właściwościami fizycznymi co ołów). Reaktor jest wsadowy z dwoma geometrycznymi sekcjami – jedną z cylindryczną obudową i drugą o półsferycznym dnie. Wirnik napędza mieszanie ołowiu w wale posiadającym cztery płaskie ostrza. Punkty monitorujące mają uśrednione stężenie pierwiastka w taki sposób, aby ocenić wydajność w całym reaktorze. Wreszcie, jednym z kryteriów wprowadzonych dla odpowiedniej oceny wydajności jest również niezmienność stężenia pierwiastka monitorującego.

This paper is a cross-sectional study on the use of Internet and Online Social Networks in the Spanish hotel sector compared to Spanish companies in other sectors. The conclusions from this extensive survey are that the use of online social networks is more important and is more developed in the hotel sector than in Spanish companies in general. However, although it gives considerable importance to online social networks, the hotel sector needs to revise its rules of usage. The use of new tools such as e-commerce to sell the hotel stays must increase, and marketing efforts should be geared more towards online social networks because the hotel sector is currently losing ground in a market that generates more and more potential clients and sales by the day.

In this paper, explain the preparation of CaTiO3 ceramics synthesized by the solid-state reaction method. Calcium carbonate and titanium dioxide were high energy mixed in stoichiometric amounts, and the obtained mixture was calcined at different temperatures (800, 900, 1000 and 1300ºC) for 2h. The obtained samples were characterized by measurement of particle size, Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX) Analysis; differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction and SEM images. XRD patterns indicated that CaTiO3 ceramics with the structure of perovskite is obtained from calcined powders at 1,300°C for 2h. SEM images show the formation of a very fine and homogeneous morphology. The measured values of electrical resistivity were within the typical range of insulating materials and approach values corresponding to insulating ceramics.

Due to their nutritional and sensorial characteristics, tropical fruits like guava, mamey sapote, and passion fruit are regularly incorporated into daily diets. Their by-products, especially peels, are approximately 10 to 35% of their weight and possess an important content of bioactive compounds, such as dietary fiber and phenolics. The nutritional, technological, physio-functional properties and phenolic compound compositions of guava, mamey sapote, and passion fruit peels were studied. Peels had promising techno- and physio-functional characteristics, good dietary fiber contents (45.18-61.42 g/100 g), and phenolic profiles with ferulic acid, gallic acid, p-coumaric, and catechin as the main compounds. Peel powders also showed excellent DPPH radical scavenging activity (125.3–252.4 µmol TE/100 g) and Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity, TEAC (369.2–656.8 µmol TE/100 g). The α-amylase and lipase inhibitory activity varied from 28.15 to 51.4% and 30.89 to 57.15%, respectively. Higher values of α-glucosidase inhibition capacity were found, ranging from 51.64 to 70.32%. The chemical composition and properties reported in the present work suggest that peel powders of these guava, mamey sapote, and passion fruit could be used as constituents in different foods, such as bakery and meat goods, with beneficial health effects like control of hyperglycemia, improved intestinal function, and control of overweight; however, more studies are necessary for animal models and humans to confirm these bioactivities conclusively.

The effect of ultrasound treatment (UT) on a beverage from mango pulp and carrot juice with added turmeric powder on total soluble phenolic content (TSP), total carotenoid content (TC) and antioxidant capacity (AOC) was evaluated. Response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to obtain the optimal formulation of the beverage. The AOC was assigned as a response variable in addition to TSP and TC. Mathematical modeling showed that the formulation with 35% (v/v) of mango pulp, 10% (v/v) of carrot juice, and 0.7% (w/v) of turmeric powder, yielded the highest values of TSP, TC, and AOC. The beverages were subjected to different ultrasound conditions with varying exposure times (ET), sonication amplitudes (SA), and pulse cycles (PC) to obtain the highest values for response variables. Statistical modeling showed that a UT at 21 min ET, 100% SA, and 0.7 s PC, increased TSP, Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC), and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) by 15.5%, 45.1%, and 15.9%, respectively. Seven phenolic acids, three curcuminoids, five flavonoids, and a xanthonoid were identified in the beverages. The quantities of 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, gallic acid, chlorogenic acids, (+)-catechin, quercetin, kaempferol, (–)-gallocatechin gallate, and mangiferin were higher in the UT beverage compared to the control, suggesting their release from cell-wall structures as a result of UT.

In maize plant breeding aimed at producing a hybrid, it is necessary to characterize the parents and hybrids by their agronomic aspects and grain quality so that the processing industry may offer consumers a quality product and also improve its efficiency. This study evaluated the viscoelastic parameters of masa and the chemical and texture properties of tortillas obtained from parent lines (M-54, M55, and CML-242), two single crosses (M54xM55 and M55xM54), and one hybrid (H-70). The morpho- logy of the maize grains and tortillas was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy. The firmness of masa obtained from CML-242 and H-70 maize was higher than that from the other maize genotypes. M-54 tortillas showed the lowest crude fiber content. Otherwise, tortillas obtained from the M55xM54 hard grain had the lowest fat content and extensibility, while H-70 tortillas showed an intermediate breaking point and extensibility. M-54 and M54xM55 tortillas were softer due to their more swollen starch granules. In contrast, rigid tortillas were obtained from CML-242 and H-70. Grain hardness causes different morphology in starch and tortilla of maize genotypes. However, grain hardness did not influence the characteristics of texture in tortillas.
