The article aims to raise the issue of acquiring a specific vocabulary in a foreign language, which is a vital part of specific language education. Insufficient knowledge of a specific vocabulary has an influence on its future use in professional life, and can lead to the production of inadequate statements, as well as misunderstandings. In research based on a questionnaire with open and closed questions, 80 students of Economics and European Studies at the Koszalin University of Technology shared their opinions about the most common problems they face while learning specific vocabulary. Analysis of the research and the resulting conclusions can be applied to the language teaching process in order to increase its efficiency. The study has indicated that the majority of students questioned had problems with specific vocabulary, and that learning English for Specific Purposes is much more difficult than learning General English. The most frequently repeated causes of this situation were problems with finding an accurate equivalent of a word and problems using the new vocabulary in its context.

The paper presents a study performed in two universities in Poland and Romania. It aimed to identify learners’ needs and difficulties when learning ESP, and also what common needs students in the two universities have, in spite of the fact that they study different branches of ESP–English for Economics and Medical English, respectively. For this purpose, we designed a questionnaire containing 14 open and closed questions. The participants in the study were 100 students at the Koszalin University of Technology in Poland and 100 students from the “Iuliu Hatieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The results of the study showed that, in spite of their different fields of training, there were many similarities between the responses of the students, but also certain differences that derived mostly from the different background and specific language needs of learners. Therefore, we may conclude that university students who study sciences, in particular Business and Medicine, might have certain similar needs when learning Professional English. Opis:
Interaction between the learner and teacher in the context of Foreign Language for Specific Purposes (FLSP) is characteristic in that often the learner has greater specialist knowledge than the teacher for reasons of experience, or because they work professionally in the field. The purpose of this article is to define the factors impacting on this relationship and analyze possible difficulties for the teacher. The empirical part describes a pilot study with the aim of analyzing responses from eight FLSP teachers.

Opis:
The development of communication skills in foreign languages is increasingly considered to be a top priority in professional environments. Misunderstandings based on miscommunications in multilanguage corporations contribute to decreasing efficacy and, consequently, lowered productivity and diminished profits. Employers formulate their expectations of employees as early as during the recruitment process. They also do so in later stages of employees’ careers within the company through different forms of workshops and courses encouraging the improvement of employees’ language skills. The aim of the following paper is to analyse employers’ expectations of employees’ knowledge of foreign languages (expressed in job advertisements) and the consequences that follow for planning an LSP course for the IT sector. Finally, the conclusions and possibilities of application in the field of LSP teaching will be discussed.
