    School health education is supposed to be aimed at taking actions based on the concept of positive health and good well-being but its scope is extending due to socio – cultural changes. Nowadays virtual world is becoming a part of the social reality and is perceived as an important socialization factor. For this reason Internet use should be treated as one of the health education areas as it influences psychosocial health and wellbeing of individuals. The article presents the Polish educational system and the place of health education in core curriculum. This issues constitute a theoretical framework for reporting the findings of research, which were aimed at determining the behaviours of Polish pupils undertaken in virtual space. The main goal of the research was to establish the influence of these behaviours on physical and psychosocial health as well as wellbeing of respondents. A similar studies were conducted by Sonia Livingstone, Michał Klichowski and Maciej Tanaś. The research proved the strong engagement of pupils surveyed in all types of Internet activities, which had an impact on occurring disorders of many areas of functioning (e.g. back pains, visual problems, tiredness, anxiety, insomnia, learning difficulties, social problems). The findings justified the urgent need to include the issues regarding safe and healthy behaviours undertaken in cyber space in health education curriculum. In conclusion some guidelines for educational practice have been formulated.

    The domination of new technologies in the lives of children and the youth leads to its consideration in the context of threats and a potential negative influence on adolescents’ functioning. Considering various threats occurring in the virtual space, first of all it is indicated that the Internet, due to apparent anonymity, is often the space of mutual aggression, mocking and attempts to discredit other net users. The presented study refers to the analysis of behaviours being a demonstration of cyberbullying. The research was conducted in conformity with the quantity-quality paradigm. It involved a method of diagnostic survey using the technique of a questionnaire and documents analysis. As the conducted study showed, cyberbullying is a phenomenon which often occurs among contemporary teenagers. The examined persons were most often victims or witnesses of verbal aggression in the net.

    The technological progress and unlimited access to media create new possibilities of self-presentation in the public domain nowadays, especially for the young generation. The article presents a part of a broader research project which was aimed at defining the characteristics of behaviors shown in cyberspace by Polish students of upper-secondary schools and also at determining potential social and health consequences of such behaviors. The chosen fragment of the study mainly focuses on those actions that were considered as a sign of social exhibitionism on the Internet, such as uploading photos and videos, sharing private information about oneself and informing about current activity. The research was conducted in accordance with a quantity paradigm. It was of diagnostic and verification nature and a method of diagnostic survey with the use of questionnaires was applied.

    Health inequalities are being increasingly considered in describing population health and creating health policies. Particular emphasis is put on the so-called social inequalities, however, it is emphasized that they may also be conditioned by biological or environmental factors. The latter type of inequalities is the subject of interest in the present study. The presented research results are a part of wider diagnostic activities that were undertaken within the Onkogranty II project. They include a comparison of data on the epidemiology of cancer caused by low physical activity and poor diet in the province of Silesia and throughout the country.

    Niezwykle ważnym problemem zdrowia publicznego jest coraz większe rozpowszechnienie chorób przewlekłych, w tym nowotworowych. Ważnymi czynnikami ryzyka w ich etiologii jest styl życia, zwłaszcza nieprawidłowa dieta i niski poziom aktywności fizycznej. Wiedza i świadomość zdrowotna we wspomnianym zakresie są niezbędnymi elementami profilaktyki i edukacji onkologicznej mającej na celu zmianę zachowań ludzi w kierunku prozdrowotnym. Prezentowane wyniki badań stanowią fragment szerszych działań diagnostycznych podjętych w ramach projektu Onkogranty II. Obejmują one analizę wewnętrznych i zewnętrznych programów profilaktycznych realizowanych w bytomskich szkołach w kontekście treści dotyczących chorób nowotworowych powiązanych z takimi czynnikami ryzyka, jak niska aktywność fizyczna i wadliwy sposób odżywiania się. Z analizy wynika, że w badanych szkołach podejmuje się wiele działań dotyczących promocji zdrowego sposobu odżywiania i aktywności fizycznej, w większości jednak brak jest nawiązań do profilaktyki chorób nowotworowych. Wiele inicjatyw ma charakter akcyjny, niepoparty diagnozą potrzeb zdrowotnych społeczności szkolnej. Uzyskane wyniki pokazują, że dobór programu profilaktycznego należy poprzedzać diagnozą potrzeb zarówno uczniów, rodziców, jak i całej społeczności szkolnej/lokalnej, a ponadto po jego realizacji należałoby przeprowadzić ewaluację podjętych działań w celu oceny skuteczności programu i wprowadzenia potrzebnych modyfikacji. Warto także zadbać o systematyczność i spiralność przekazywanych treści w celu utrwalenia i usystematyzowania wiedzy i umiejętności uczniów. Przede wszystkim jednak, biorąc pod uwagę dane epidemiologiczne dotyczące rozpowszechnienia chorób nowotworowych, należy uwzględnić treści związane z profilaktyką onkologiczną w programach profilaktyczno-wychowawczych szkoły, jak również w edukacji zdrowotnej.

    The increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, including cancers, is becoming a very serious public health problem. The main risk factor in its etiology is life style including unhealthy diet and low level of physical activity. Knowledge and health awareness regarding this issue is an essential element of oncological prevention and education aimed at changing people’s behaviour toward health-oriented. Presented results are a part of broader diagnostic activities undertaken within the Onkogranty II project. They include an analysis of internal and external preventive programs implemented in schools in Bytom in the context cancer risk factors such as low physical activity and unhealthy diet. The analysis shows that in the surveyed schools many activities are undertaken to promote a healthy diet and physical activity, but in most cases there is no reference to the cancer prevention. Many initiatives are action-based, not supported by the diagnosis of the school community’s health needs. The results obtained show that the selection of a preventive program should be preceded by a diagnosis of the needs of both students, parents and the entire school/local community. After its implementation, it would be necessary to evaluate the actions taken to assess the effectiveness of the program and introduce the necessary modifications. It is also worth taking care of regularity and helicity of the transmitted content in order to consolidate and systematize the knowledge and skills of students. Above all, taking into account epidemiological data on the prevalence of cancer, content related to oncological prevention should be included in school’s preventive and educational programs as well as in health education.

    Celem artykułu jest podkreślenie znaczenia aktywności fizycznej dla zdrowia i rozwoju dzieci w wieku przedszkolnym i młodszym szkolnym oraz adolescentów, jak również przedstawienie danych ogólnoświatowych w tym zakresie w czasie pandemii koronawirusa. Dane ogólnoświatowe już wcześniej wskazywały na spadek aktywności ruchowej wśród dorastających (głównie dziewcząt), a pandemia COVID-19 i długotrwały lockdown jeszcze pogłębiły ten kryzys. W artykule przytoczone zostały najnowsze wyniki badań przeprowadzonych w różnych częściach świata wskazujące na drastyczny spadek poziomu aktywności fizycznej w czasie pandemii, który może utrwalić się w przyszłości i stać nowym, niebezpiecznym dla zdrowia nawykiem. W związku z tym, na różnych szczeblach władzy podejmowane są działania mające przeciwdziałać zachowaniom sedentarnym i ich dalekosiężnym konsekwencjom. Ogromną rolę w tym kontekście odgrywają szkoła i rodzina, które nieustannie powinny podejmować starania i motywować dzieci i młodzież do podejmowania systematycznej aktywności fizycznej.
    The article aims to emphasize the importance of physical activity for the health and development of preschool and junior school children and adolescents as well as to present global data in this regard during the coronavirus pandemic. Worldwide data previously indicated a decline in physical activity among adolescents (mainly girls), and the COVID-19 pandemic and prolonged lockdown have further aggravated this crisis. The article cites the latest results of research conducted in various parts of the world, which indicate a drastic decline in the level of physical activity during a pandemic, which may become permanent in the future and become a new habit that is dangerous to health. Therefore, at various levels of government, measures are taken to counteract sedentary behaviour and its far-reaching consequences. The school and the family play a huge role in this context, as they should constantly make efforts and motivate children and adolescents to undertake systematic physical activity.

    This study aimed to evaluate Polish school principals’ coronavirus-related health literacy (HL) level and explore the respondents’ feelings in the context of the pandemic media information overload. The survey was conducted in 8 out of 16 provinces in Poland between June 2021 and December 2021 using an online questionnaire. Research revealed that the most challenging for Polish school principals was judging the reliability of the media-based information about COVID-19. Moreover, respondents’ coronavirus-related HL was positively associated with feeling well-informed about the pandemic and less confused concerning media information about coronavirus. Enhancing school principals’ HL is recommended, as it can positively affect the entire school community through health-oriented leadership behaviour and prevent an infodemic, facilitating school management and making the right decisions.

    Regardless of how the contemporary young generation is described, there is no doubt that their permanent connection to the Internet and an incredible expertise in using information and communication technologies are one of the features that define those who grow up at the present time. Such strong involvement in digital media entails a number of health and development consequences for children and teenagers. In order to minimize the potential risks and negative effects of new media, it is essential to take action aimed at increasing awareness in terms of positive and negative aspects of using digital devices as well as at gaining abilities to use them in a way that is the most optimal and favourable for health. Currently, this issue constitutes a great challenge for teachers, parents, and carers for whom implementing health-seeking attitudes and behaviours of the young generation may be, taking into consideration the attractiveness of electronic media and virtual world, an enormously difficult task.

    Governments all over the world have taken unparalleled measures to combat the spread of the co[1]ronavirus. Severe restrictions have been imposed, reducing face-to-face contact where possible. This situation seems to be particularly acute for children and youth, who may not understand the orders and bans. Many studies analyzed in this paper have provided evidence that children’s and adole[1]scents’ health has been negatively affected within the last months due to school closures and the need for social and physical distancing because of the coronavirus. Adults should be aware of children’s and adolescents’ difficulties and support them during this unique time. In the face of serious threats currently emerging due to COVID-19, health promotion is essential, as people regain control of their health, protect themselves and manage the potential consequences of the disease. The schools are faced with a huge task of promoting health, preparing students to cope with difficult and uncertain situations, including strengthening their health literacy. Health literacy, which is a set of skills, varies from individual to individual, which means that interventions in this area should focus on improving people’s skills and capacities through educational activities, discussed in this article.

    The global spread of cancer makes every preventive action aiming at stopping the increase in number of cases and deaths related to cancer extremely important. Preventive actions may be especially effective in diseases etiologically related to lifestyles, including above all eating habits and level of physical activity. It is worth implementing them in compliance with the participatory approach, which constitutes a key component of health promotion and health education. The aim of this article is to present the reasons for and the need to implement prevention based on the idea of participation. This is justified by the results of the research conducted as part of a grant sponsored by Polska Liga Walki z Rakiem [Polish Cancer League] (“Onkogranty II” contest), entitled Promotion of healthy eating habits and physical activity in primary schools throughout the city of Bytom – a diagnosis of educational needs in the context of planning effective actions in primary cancer prevention. It seems that involving students in the process of identifying needs, determining priorities, planning and evaluating these actions is currently one of the most effective ways of developing awareness of cancer prevention.

    Dane epidemiologiczne wyraźnie wskazują, że liczba dzieci z zaburzeniami ze spektrum autyzmu systematycznie się zwiększa. Rodziny, na których spoczywa obowiązek opieki i wychowania dzieci z niepełnosprawnościami borykają się z wieloma problemami życia codziennego. Trud wychowania dziecka z autyzmem, radzenie sobie z emocjami dziecka i własnymi, problemy dnia codziennego niejednokrotnie wywołują kryzys w rodzinie. Nie ulega zatem wątpliwości, że zarówno dzieci ze spektrum autyzmu, jak i ich rodzice/rodziny wymagają pomocy i wsparcia, zarówno instytucjonalnego, jak pozainstytucjonalnego. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie, na przykładzie indywidualnego przypadku rodziny z dzieckiem z zaburzeniami ze spektrum autyzmu, rodzajów wsparcia, jakie do tej pory rodzina ta uzyskała wraz z próbą jego oceny. Uzyskane informacje wskazują, że oferowane przez państwo pomoc i wsparcie dzieci ze spektrum autyzmu i ich rodzin jest niewystarczające, w związku z czym wiele rodzin musi radzić sobie we własnym zakresie. Jednak efektywne radzenie sobie rodziny w dużym stopniu zależy od posiadanych przez nią zasobów – indywidualnych, systemowych, materialnych oraz zewnętrznych systemów wsparcia rodziny – które pozwalają jak najlepiej realizować funkcje opiekuńcze i wychowawcze względem dziecka.
    Epidemiological data clearly indicate that the number of children with autism spectrum disorder is systematically growing. Families which bear responsibility for raising and caring for children with disabilities wrestle with many problems of everyday life. Many times, the hardships of raising children with autism, dealing with their emotions and one's own as well as everyday problems lead to a family crisis. Therefore, there is no doubt that both children with autism spectrum disorder and their parents/families need both institutional and non-institutional help and support. The aim of this article is to present – on the example of an individual case of a family with a child with autism spectrum disorder – the types of support the family has received and evaluation of this support. The information obtained indicates that help and support for children with autism spectrum disorder and their families offered by the state is insufficient and, therefore, many families have to cope on their own. However, the effective handling of the situation is highly dependent on individual, systemic, and material resources a family has as well as on external systems of family support which allow the best possible fulfilment of protective and educational functions regarding the child.
