Opis:
The synchrotron radiation in the energy range between 40 and 80 eV was applied to investigate the electronic structure of Hg$\text{}_{0.7}$Mn$\text{}_{0.3}$Se, Hg$\text{}_{0.88}$Fe$\text{}_{0.12}$Se and Hg$\text{}_{0.93}$Co$\text{}_{0.07}$Se crystals by means of the resonant photoemission spectroscopy. The set of energy distribution curves was measured in the region near the M (M = Mn 3d$\text{}^{5}$, Fe 3d$\text{}^{6}$, Co 3d$\text{}^{7}$) 3p-3d transitions. In order to determine thoroughly the Fano type resonance energy the constant initial states curves were measured.

Resonant photoemission spectroscopy was applied to determine the Mn 3d derived contribution to the valence band density of states of Mn$\text{}_{0.44}$ Mg$\text{}_{0.56}$Te grown by molecular beam epitaxy on a GaAs(001) substrate. The modifications of the valence band density-of-states distribution are discussed as a consequence of the substitution of Mg ions for Mn ions.

The resonant photoemission spectroscopy was applied to investigate the valence band electronic structure of semimagnetic semiconductor Pb$\text{}_{0.92}$Mn$\text{}_{0.08}$Se crystal and to determine the contribution of Mn 3d electrons to the valence band. The set of energy distribution curves and constant initial states spectra were taken for by energies in the region (40-60 eV) close to the Mn 3p-3d transition. The electrons Mn 3d hybridize and contribute to the valence band electrons of the crystal and main density of states contribution appears in the energy 3.5 ± 0.2 eV below the valence band edge.

We report the results of a resonant photoemission study of Zn$\text{}_{1-x}$Co$\text{}_{x}$S. A Co 3d derived contribution to the valence band spectra was revealed as a 5 eV wide structure with two maxima: at the edge of the valence band and about 4 eV below the edge. The results were compared with the total DOS distribution resulting from tight binding-coherent potential approximation calculations.

Opis:
The past few decades have witnessed a tremendous increase in the consumption of antibiotics worldwide. This rampant and unregulated use of antibiotics and their improper disposal has led to the accumulation of these drugs in the environment. This in turn has led to the emergence of antibiotic resistance in microbes and has become one of the most pressing global concerns in medicine, with highly resistant pathogens of many species proving difficult to treat. The aim of the study was to synthesise silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) using white rot fungus, Pleurotus ostreatus and assess its potential to carry out photocatalytic degradation of ampicillin. UV–Vis spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and transmission electron microscope have been used to characterize biosynthesized Ag-NPs. The photocatalytic degradation of ampicillin in aqueous solution by Ag-NPs was evaluated under natural sunlight. The effect of the operating conditions (contact time, Ag-NP concentration and initial ampicillin concentration) on the photocatalytic degradation was also investigated. The highest ampicillin degradation of 96.5% was observed after exposure of the solution (antibiotic + nanoparticles) for 4 h in sunlight. The maximum degradation was observed at an Ag-NP concentration of 5 ppm at pH 6. To the best of our knowledge, photocatalytic degradation of ampicillin using Ag-NPs synthesised by P. ostreatus has not been reported earlier.

Opis:
Using Brillouin light scattering, the properties of magnetic anisotropies in ultrathin epitaxial Co films grown on single-crystal Cu substrates are investigated. All relevant magnetic anisotropy contributions are determined, in situ in an ultrahigh vacuum system for the (001)-oriented films, as well as ex situ for other film orientations, which are covered with a Cu cap layer. For (001)-oriented films we find a large in-plane anisotropy contribution of fourfold symmetry. For this contribution the volume and the surface part cancel to zero at the same thickness as found for the onset of ferromagnetic order. This finding is indicative for a stabilization of ferromagnetic order in Co/Cu(001) by in-plane anisotropy contributions. In (1 1 13)-oriented films, which are composed of (001)-terraces aligned along the [11̅0]-direction and spaced by 6.5 atomic distances, an additional uniaxial in-plane anisotropy contribution is found which is identified as being of magneto-elastic origin. For (110)-oriented films three ranges of thickness dependence of the in-plane and out-of-plane anisotropy contributions are found which correlate in the thin-film regime with the growth properties. (111)-oriented films show a linear dependence of the perpendicular anisotropy on the reciprocal film thickness over the full investigated thickness range of 2 to 20 Å.

Photoemission measurements using synchrotron radiation were performed on PbYbTe (bulk crystal) and CdYbTe (MBE thin film). The resonant enhancement of the photoemission was applied for investigation of the contribution of Yb 4f electrons to the valence band. The set of the energy distribution curves was collected for energies in the region close to the 4d-4f Fano transition. The Yb 4f$\text{}^{14}$ were observed at the binding energies close to the edge of the valence band while the 4f$\text{}^{13}$ states were revealed deep in the valence band.

The synchrotron radiation was applied to measure resonant photoemission spectra (Fano-type Gd 4d-4f resonance), constant initial states and constant final states to study the valence band electronic structure of Sn$\text{}_{0.96}$Gd$\text{}_{0.04}$Te crystal.
