Opis:
Cypress (Cupressus funebris Endl.) is an important tree species in the subtropical regions of China; it is also a major tree species for afforestation and forest land restoration under low-fertility soil conditions. Cypress is considered a calcicolous tree, and its growth and development can be promoted significantly by exchangeable calcium (Ca2+) in the soil. However, most of the subtropical regions have low-fertility acidic soils, in which Ca2+ gradually becomes a limiting element for Cypress growth. In this study, different concentrations of Ca2+ fertilizer were added under fertile soil (3 g kg−1 NPK fertilizer added) and low-fertility soil (0 g kg−1 NPK fertilizer added) conditions. Cypress clones responded differently to Ca2+ addition in different soil conditions. The seedling height and dry matter quality of Cypress in fertile soil were significantly greater than those in low-fertility soil, but plant height and dry biomass did not differ significantly among Ca2+ treatments. The accumulation efficiencies of nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P) and Ca all differed significantly among the Ca2+ treatments. In low-fertility soil, the addition of 3 g kg-1 Ca2+ significantly promoted development of roots 0.5–2 mm in diameter, and both the C1 and C2 clones achieved their highest N, P and Ca accumulation efficiencies. When the Ca2+ concentration increased to 6 g kg−1, the seedling height, dry matter quality and root development were lower than those of the 3 g kg−1 Ca2+ treatment. In the fertile soil, the addition of Ca2+ significantly inhibited development of roots 0.5–1 mm in diameter. The highest N accumulation efficiency was achieved under the 0 g kg−1 Ca2+ treatment, and the highest Ca accumulation efficiency was achieved under the 6 g kg−1 Ca2+ treatment. Seedling height, root dry weight, roots 0–1.5 mm in diameter and Ca accumulation showed a significant interaction effect between NPK fertilizer and Ca2+. Therefore, Ca accumulation was more efficient in low-fertility soils. Under low-fertility soil conditions, the addition of CaSO4 can promote the root development of seedlings and advance and prolong the fast growth period of seedling height. Cypress clones can be used as an important tree species for afforestation under low-fertility soil conditions, especially under calcareous soil conditions.

Climate change is causing changes in tree species performance and distribution, impacting breeding programme effectiveness. Our aim was to analyse the effects of provenance and climatic factors on the annual ring density of Masson pine (Pinus massoniana Lamb.) at different experimental sites and potential breeding strategies that may be developed in response to future climate change. The study trees represented provenances originating from the western, east-central, northern, and southern regions of P. massoniana distribution in China. The wood density differed significantly among provenances. A multisite variance analysis test showed that the type B correlation coefficients for ring density at the two sites stud- ied were less than 0.8, indicating an interaction effect of genotype by environment (G×E) on tree ring density. Climatic factors directly affected the wood density properties. At Chun’an (CA), the maximum latewood density (MXD) and minimum earlywood density (MND) were positively correlated with absolute maximum temperatures in August and May of the current growing season, respectively. At Taizi Mountain (TZS), MXD was significantly positively correlated with absolute maximum temperature in September of the current year and significantly negatively correlated with precipitation in June. MND was significantly positively correlated with absolute maximum temperature in May of the current year and significantly negatively correlated with precipitation in April. The climatic effects on P. massoniana wood density differed among seed-source origins. This study showed that ring density characteristics differed significantly among provenances, and provenance selection could promote wood density. MXD and MND exhibited significant genotype-by-environment interaction effects, and significant correlations were found between ring density and temperature and precipitation conditions. These findings suggest that climatic factors and site condi- tions in addition to genetics could be strong drivers of wood density variation, and/or that wood density is a highly plastic trait.

Źródła energii znalazły się w centrum zainteresowania pod względem prawnym, etycznym, społecznym i gospodarczym z powodu rosnących problemów środowiska. Powszechnie wiadome, że nieodnawialne źródła energii są w coraz większym stopniu zastępowane innymi, które są odnawialne i mniej zanieczyszczające, z wykorzystaniem technologii mających na celu zrównoważony rozwój. Utylizacja stałych odpadów żywnościowych jest wciąż poważnym problemem dla wielu społeczności. Technologia beztlenowej fermentacji jest możliwa do zastosowania przy przetwarzaniu organicznych odpadów stałych i łączy odzysku materiału oraz produkcję energii. Recykling odpadów spożywczych w procesie beztlenowa fermentacja na biogaz, zawiesinę biogazu oraz nawóz organiczny jest podstawowym zadaniem utylizacji bioodpadów komunalnych. Bazując na sortowaniu odpadów spożywczych, technologia ta może zlikwidować zanieczyszczenia z odpadów spożywczych, w odniesieniu do ich źródeł. Z jednej strony złagodzić presję na środowisko pochodzące z spożywczych odpadów komunalnych oraz uniknąć wtórnego zanieczyszczenia, osiągnąć zasadę „3R” (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) w gospodarce odpadami jeszcze bardziej. Zasada ta wprowadza zasady technik, przewagę technologiczną oraz postęp w dziedzinie badań nad beztlenową fermentacją. Fermentacja beztlenowa dzieli się na mokrą i suchą. W porównaniu z oczywistymi zaletami fermentacji na mokro, jest jeszcze wiele braków w procesie fermentacji suchej. Ostatecznie stwierdzono, że technologia suchej fermentacji do produkcji metanu zmieniła tradycyjne podejście do fermentacji. W pewnym sensie, usuwanie i recykling odpadów spożywczych jest w przybliżeniu podobny do zgazowania komunalnych odpadów spożywczych, co może zamienić odpady w majątek, który ludzkość może wykorzystać do zarządzania w metropoliach. I zdecydowanie rekomenduje się fermentację typu etanolowego jako najbardziej obiecujący typ acydyfikacyjny.

Opis:
Stainless steel (SS) is a well-known material for the internal parts of nuclear power plants. It is known that these alloys exhibit radiation-induced segregation (RIS) at point defect sinks at moderate temperature, while in service. The RIS behavior of SS can be a potential problem by increasing the susceptibility to irradiation-assisted stress corrosion cracking. In this work, the RIS behavior of solute atoms at sinks in SS 316 irradiated with Fe4+ ions were characterized by atom probe tomography (APT). There were torus-shaped defects along with a depletion of Cr and enrichment of Ni and Si. These clusters are believed to be dislocation loops resulting from irradiation. The segregation of solutes was also observed for various defect shapes. These observations are consistent with other APT results from the literature. The composition of the clusters was analyzed quantitatively almost at the atomic scale. Despite the limitations of the experiments, the APT analysis was well suited for discovering the structure of irradiation defects and performing a quantitative analysis of RIS in irradiated specimens.

Opis:
A heavily Si-doped GaN/polymer hybrid structure with p-type poly(3,4-ethylene-dioxythiophene):beta-1,3-glucan (PEDOT nanoparticle) interface layer has been fabricated. The Si-doped GaN thin film with carrier concentration of 1 × $10^{19} cm^{-3}$ was grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition. The PEDOT nanoparticle with various sizes ranging from 60 to 120 nm was synthesized via a miniemulsion polymerization process. The electrical conductivity of the PEDOT nanoparticle is less than 1.2 S/cm. The current-voltage (I-V) characteristic of the hybrid structure shows diode-like behavior. The I-V characteristic was examined in the framework of the thermionic emission model. The ideality factor of the structure without PEDOT nanoparticle interface layer is 12.9. However, the ideality factor of the hybrid structure with PEDOT nanoparticle interface layer is obtained as 1.9. The value of ideality factor is dramatically decreased by inserting the PEDOT nanoparticle interface layer.

Four complexes with the formula of [M5(DATr)12~14(H2O)6](ClO4)10 (M = Mn (1), Co (2), Ni (3), Zn (4)) about their synthesis, structures and some energetic properties (such as sensitivities tests) have been described, where the DATr here denotes 3,4-diamino-1,2,4-triazole. These four compounds are all light metallic complexes with good thermal stability. The structures of 2-4 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and the crystal structures mainly consist of penta-nuclear units. All the structures have a common interesting property in which DATr plays a role of bi-dentate ligand. Besides, it is observed from the crystal structure of 4 that DATr can be also act as a mono-dentate ligand. Thermodynamic studies of their decomposition properties and kinetic parameters show that the four complexes have high thermal stabilities. Furthermore, tests of their impact and friction sensitivities show that complexes (2) and (3) can be potential candidates as primary explosives to replace toxic lead azide.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is an important swine pathogen, causing huge economic losses each year worldwide. Immunization with vaccines containing the glycoprotein 5 (GP5) of PRRSV is the main measure to induce neutralizing antibodies and control the disease. Here, we developed a GP5 protein-based ELISA for detecting antibodies against PRRSV. The overall yield of purified GP5 in E. coli flask culture was more than 45 mg/L cell culture. Western blot and IFA indicated that the GP5 protein was highly immunogenic. After optimization and validation with IDEXX PRRS using 566 clinical sera, the DSN, DSP, and accuracy of GP5-ELISA were 81.39%, 75.96%, and 80.39%, respectively. Besides, GP5-ELISA is highly specific, showing no cross-reactions with sera against other important swine pathogens. Hence, GP5 is a good diagnostic antigen and the GP5 protein-based ELISA has the potential to be used in the field

Five new derivatives of 4,6-di(thiophen-2-yl)pyrimidine (DTP) were designed by structural modification with the aim to tune the electro-optical and charge transfer properties. The effect of oligocene and oligocenothiophene incorporation/substitution was investigated on various properties of interests. The smaller hole reorganization energy revealed that compounds 1-5 might be good hole transfer contenders. The smaller hole reorganization energy of newly designed five DTP derivatives than the pentacene showed that prior compounds might be good/comparable hole transfer materials than/to that of pentacene. The computed electron reorganization energy of DTP derivatives 1-5 are 124, 185, 93, 95 and 189 meV smaller than the meridional-tris (8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (mer-Alq3) illuminating that electron mobility of these derivatives might be better/comparable than/to referenced compound.

Indium-doped ZnO thin films were deposited by sol-gel spin-coating method with various In content. The effects of In content on the structural and optical properties of the indium-doped ZnO thin films were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and UV-visible spectroscopy. The particle-like surface morphology and the crystallinity of the indium-doped ZnO thin films were affected by change in the In content, especially at the In content of 3 at.%. The values of direct band gap were decreased with increase in the In content. The width of localized states in the optical band gap of the indium-doped ZnO thin films were changed with In content and the Urbach energy $(E_{U})$ was changed inversely with optical band gap of the indium-doped ZnO thin films.
