Opis:: The modern suburban Wrocław landscape is shaped and received above all by the picture and character of a Polish village. Village buildings do not account for important diversification - not too high tenement and farm buildings do not discriminate in a meaningful way. The situation only undergoes an alteration in cases when the village is an integral part of a former estate. Then within limits of farm buildings, other overall forms of dimension appear. To date the culture creating and landscape shaping role of palace - farm sets has unfortunately disappeared and the new social-political situation contributed to their gradual degradation. Perhaps it is worth remembering that farm sets constitute an element of our rural culture heritage and that is why they should be preserved from ruin and moreover from destruction. It is enough to find an appropriate function, preferably pliant to the tradition of the place, to allow the selected assumption to function, develop and constitute testimony to its former brilliance, most of all, for future generations.

Opis:: Garden, palace or palace-garden sets which bordered directly with palace grange sets were most of all the place for a walk and rest of the inhabitants of mansions. In inventoried objects we can distinguish two basic spatial compositions. The first characterizes by geometry, regularity of sets and often axis. The second one characterizes by freedom which refers to natural landscapes. Former gardens and parks which have accompanied palace-grange sets since the beginning of their existence, similarly to granges, influenced and shaped the cultural landscape of the place where they were created. In every historical period, various styles in composition existed both in garden and palace ones. They often created the only high greenery point in the neighborhood. And sometimes they were directly connected to the areas of woods lying near by. It is necessary to remember that some landowners apart from gardens and parks were planting trees at road sides. Present old alleys, and sometimes hedges were created in such a way. In the modern rural village set both former palace-garden sets as well as the above mentioned alleys are the only forms or organized greenery. It is a pity that they appear to have remained without care and attention. The only thing we can do is hope that together with the rise of social conscience and rationalization of legal regulations, their situation will decisively improve.

Opis:: In this paper was presented, that the issue of conservation is an important element in the education of the future landscape architects at the University of Life Sciences in Wroclaw. During the study, young people explore the issues in the field of conservation, restoration and revi-talization, not only from the theoretical, but also practical side. The implemented methodics of the conservation conduct during the course activities, is an attempt to raise awareness for young people that the maintenance and revalorization is not only a strict or outdated patterns of behavior, but above all to adapt to modern needs in accordance with the respect of traditions of the place, the conservation principles and investor expectations. On the three cases outlined in the article was illustrated the diversity of architecture - landscape complexes and contents of work performed on those objects in a course, and during which the creative process mainly focuses on the skilful combination of conservation issues with adaptation activities to contemporary needs and the technical design requirements. It should be aware of the fact that the selected complexes are predominantly a cultural heritage which, if it is completely destroyed, is lost forever. For that reason, important issues are the timing and conservation awareness and proper conduct in accordance with the principles of conservation.

Opis:: Praca podejmuje temat ochrony folwarcznych domów pracowniczych zachowanych w krajobrazie wsi wielkopolskiej. Budynki mieszkalne dawnej służby folwarcznej od początku swojego istnienia wpływały znacząco na kreowanie wizerunku wielkopolskiej wsi. Wynikało to zarówno z ich charakterystycznego opracowania kostiumu architektonicznego, jak i specyficznego umiejscowienia w układach ruralistycznych. Swoista architektura jest wynikiem modułowego rozplanowania wnętrz (niezależnie od liczby mieszkań znajdujących się w jednym obiekcie), a lokalizacja – pełnionej funkcji użytkowej w strukturach folwarcznych. Niestety, specyficzne, a jednocześnie malownicze „uliczki” obudowane jedno- lub dwustronnie domami dawnej służby folwarcznej z każdym dniem coraz bardziej zatracają swój pierwotny wygląd. Stan taki jest spowodowany powszechnie przeprowadzanymi pracami modernizacyjnymi poszczególnych lokali mieszkalnych, a w ostatnich latach wzmożonymi termoizolacjami budynków. W efekcie tego typu działań większość detali architektonicznych zostaje zasłoniętych albo całkowicie usuniętych. W celu uniknięcia dalszego niszczenia historycznej substancji architektonicznej należy jak najszybciej opracować zasady postępowania obowiązujące w trakcie remontów na omawianej grupie obiektów i podjąć działania uświadamiające ich mieszkańców. Zasadniczym celem pracy jest zwrócenie uwagi na współczesne niebezpieczeństwa zagrażające omawianej grupie budynków, często wynikające z nieświadomości jej obecnych użytkowników, ale przede wszystkim na zachowanie domów o wartościach historycznych w jak najlepszym stanie, aby przez kolejne dziesięciolecia stanowiły świadectwo wiejskiego dziedzictwa kulturowego in situ we wsiach Wielkopolski.

Opis:: The magnates' manors, which were palaces or mansions with farming facilities, go back in tradition to the middle ages. Similarly to those of other regions, the fate of the Silesian estates was brutally changed by the World War II. After 1945 the majority of land estates became the State property. Since that time, most of them have been gradually and systematically deteriorating, and finally getting destroyed, both in their architectural and space substances. In this paper an effort has been made to draw attention to the cultural values of both the whole space distribution and setting, as well as to the individual architectural items belonging to the group of palace and farm buildings in Mańczyce and especially to its role in shaping the cultural landscape of Lower Silesian villages. Here, sriving along the road you can notice already from a distance the towers emerging from the park which surrounds the residence of Mańczyce. Approaching the village, you can see the other elements: oblong blocks of stables, high roofs of barns, tall walls of granary, as well as the chimney of distillery - a significant distinguishing element in the scenery. The Mańczyce palace draws two axes: the main one and the lateral one. There is a park in the north part of the main axis and a representative court in its southern side. From the east, the lateral axis is encircled by a yard shaped in an elongated rectangle around which the farm building are clustered; and from the west - by a small rectangular yard surrounded by residential buildings. Part of it is the remains of the former workers and servants' quarters of the begining of the 20th century. Both, the palace and most of the farm buildings, among others the distillery, have not been managed nor taken care of for the last 20 years. As long as they were in use in a proper or less proper way, their technical conditions were satisfactory. Since they became empty and not used, they have fallen relatively quickly into ruin. At the moment one can only cherish a hope that Mańczyce's estate as well as many others which remain in a similar situation will regain their former splendour. Maybe this will happen thanks to a rather quick and conscious action in protection of antique group of palace and farm buildings and mansions.

Opis:: The Wrocław Lowland has been selected for the research work. In general, grange farms have been occupied in corn-growing until the end of 18th century. Late 18th and especially early 19th century was the time when Lower Silesia passed through a real agrarian revolution. It manifested itself in mastering the tilling methods and in substantial growth of livestock population. Over the area covered by research, grange farms were dominated by corn-growing, mainly rye and wheat. Such type of production was greatly influenced by fertile soils prevailing within the region. However, in 19th century farms gradually transformed to breeding. This mainly included cattle, swine, goats and also ship. In conclusion, a statement could be made that grange farms over the area under consideration were engaged in a broad line of production, starting from tilling corn, via breeding and terminating in agricultural/food industry.

Opis:: Żyrardów is a model example of an industrial complex together with its administrative-social-tenement backup; carried out on the basis of perfectly measured conception both in respect of spatial setting and introduced architectural and functional solutions. The main factor which contributed to the inception of the town and its development was the foundation of the linen products factory. With time the whole settlement and modern infrastructure was built for its maintenance. In objects belonging to the factory there appears their clear variability in regard to the size of blocks and minuteness of architectural details. Żyrardów, intensively developed in the 19th century was one of very few worker's settlements in Poland, carried out according to the project of perfect cities. Currently the cultural sphere of works is undergoing degradation. To prevent progressive destruction it is advisable to formulate a revitalisation program - a plan of spatial development of the whole complex of former works. At the same time we have to remember the appropriate exploitation of the cultural sphere to preserve the antique character of the ideal composition and unique values of industrial architecture.

Opis:: Man, from the very beginning of his existence, was and still is dependent on water. Over the centuries this relationship underwent and still undergoes constant changes. At the early stage of being on Earth, Homo sapiens were completely dependent on the natural watercourses and other water tanks. Moreover, they relied on their extraordinary force. Nowadays, thanks to technical development,water can be easily delivered to the most inaccessible contact with its natural element we, as people, remain helpless. Still, we admire it. Water is not only the essential part of life but also an important and highly attractive component which shapes the closest surroundings of people. Depending on different times, water was given different titles. It was more or less exposed. As always, the skilfully winding ribbons of water flowing lazily through the lowland areas,as well as impetuous mountain creeks,have made a huge impact on our senses. Nonetheless in the past, with all the certainty, there was a different approach towards water in households and rural and urban areas, as well as in gardens or parks. Nowadays the value of such facilities has reached historical and monumental meaning. The fact that man feels soothed in the proximity water due to its visual and auditory sensation is of a great importance.
