Investigations concerned the effect of raising the dose of new Z-ion zeolite substrate on cocksfoot (Dactylis glomerata L.) growth. During the pot experiment, plants were grown on degraded soil, arable soil and mixtures of degraded soil with increasing Z-ion substrate additions (1%, 2%, 5%, 10% v/v). When the experiment was terminated, the mean values of the vegetative parameters of test species were calculated. The carbon to nitrogen ratio for cocksfoot stem biomass was determined. The enzyme diversity of the degraded soil enriched with substrate additions after cocksfoot growth (Shannon’s diversity index) was also evaluated. The application of Z-ion additions positively influenced the cocksfoot growth – the additions in the range of 1–10% v/v to degraded soil significantly increased wet and dry stem biomass, dry root biomass and total dry biomass of plants. It turned out that the Z-ion substrate addition not exceeding 1% v/v can be considered as one which – after introducing into a specific degraded soil – would give similar biomass yield of cocksfoot to that obtained on the selected arable soil. At 1% substrate dose, the carbon/nitrogen ratio in the plant material (27.17) was within the range of values ensuring the proper methane fermentation course. The preliminary studies have shown that a significant increase in enzyme diversity can be observed when there is a certain degree of root development caused by a sufficiently high addition of Z-ion substrate to the degraded soil – under experimental conditions it was 5% v/v Z-ion dose.

The presented study aimed at determining the influence of the increasing dose of new Z-ion zeolite substrate on the growth of maize (Zea mays L.) as species belonging to energy crops. In order to achieve the study aim, the pot experiment was carried out where the plants were grown on six series of media i.e.: on marginal soil (the control series I), on arable soil (the control series II) and on four mixtures of marginal soil with increasing Z-ion substrate addition (1%, 2%, 5%, 10 % v/v). The pot test was carried out in a phytotron with a 13/11 light/dark regime. After the end of the experiment, the mean values of the vegetative parameters (wet and dry biomass of roots and stems) characterizing the plant growth in particular media series were determined. The C:N ratio for maize stems was calculated as well. The obtained study results showed a favorable influence of Z-ion substrate additions on the vegetative growth of maize. Already a 1% (v/v) substrate addition to marginal soil increased the wet and dry stems biomass by 173–204%. At the same time, it turned out that in the sixth week of plant growth, a 5% substrate addition to the marginal soil enables to achieve the value of vegetation parameters at a level similar to that of the parameters characterizing the plant development on arable land. Thus, at an early stage of plant growth, a 5% substrate dose can be considered as one allowing a similar course of maize growing on marginal soil as in the case of arable soil. It is worth noting that at this substrate dose, the C:N ratio in maize stems reached the value of 13.05, at which the plant biomass is the substrate ensuring the fairly proper course of methane fermentation supplying fuel in the form of biogas.

The aim of the study was to determine the shear strength of the soil-root layer obtained as a result of growth of cocksfoot (Dactylis glomerata L.) on degraded soil enriched with the addition of a new zeolite substrate Z-ion. Measurement of shear strength for soil-root layers formed as a result of growth of a grass species (on degraded soil alone and on degraded soil with added Z-ion) was performed in a direct shear apparatus. The measurement results allowed determining parameters of equations describing the dependence of shear strength of studied soil-root layers on normal stress e.g. cohesion and internal friction coefficient. Under the experimental conditions, application of 1% v/v substrate addition to degraded soil induced development of cocksfoot root system which resulted in the significantly increased cohesion of soil-root layer (by 30%) as compared to that formed on degraded soil alone. The enhanced cohesion of the soil-root layer formed on soil enriched with Z-ion resulted in its significantly increased shear strength as compared to that of soil-root layer obtained on soil alone. Further research using higher doses of the Z-ion substrate (greater than 1% v/v) is needed to obtain the information at what dose ranges of the substrate one can expect even more intensive development of plant root systems and, consequently, further significant improvement in the shear strength of the soil-root layers.

The paper presents the possibility of applying spent synthetic ion exchangers and sorbents based on natural zeolites for the reclamation of degraded soils. The obtained research results confirmed the improvement of the soil sorption capacity (cation exchange capacity) caused by the addition of spent ion exchange sorbents. They also enabled to determine the magnitude of changes of the analyzed parameters depending on the amount of wastes introduced to the soil. The addition of 1% (w/w) spent cation exchanger enables to increase the cation exchange capacity twice, whereas in the case of zeolite, the observed increase reaches about 20%. Simultaneously, introduction of waste ion exchange sorbents increases the content of exchangeable calcium and magnesium while doubling in the content of these macroelements is observed for 5% (w/w) and 2% (w/w) of spent ion exchanger, respectively. In the case of the exchangeable potassium content, a satisfactory increase is observed with 1% (w/w) addition of spent zeolite.

The results presented here are taken from empirical studies relating to the relation between academic achievement and sex, type of school, and self-esteem, as well as self-esteem and sex, school level, and academic achievement. Aside from specific issues, these results show, first, that levels of achievement and self-esteem in middle school show much lower values than in high school and primary school. Secondly, although girls show a higher level of achievement, there is no difference between their self-esteem compared to the self-esteem of boys.

The main objective of this study was to verify the hypothesis about the relationship between a sense of efficacy and educational strategies for teachers, conceptualized as a heteronomy – autonomy dimension. A move towards autonomous strategies should be linked to a strong sense of efficacy in teachers. The study, planned in this manner, was to verify the concept of education strategy discussed in this article, and the ability to predict educational strategies in schools based on the knowledge of the sense of efficacy in the teachers implementing them. The results positively verify these hypotheses, but also show the problematic ruling which of the strategies (heteronymous or autonomous) is more effective in the perception of teachers.

The article is a report of a comparative study of the ethical orientations of women in Poland and Serbia. We have two ethical orientations in the theoretical sense: focused on justice and care. Social context to compare is a situation of women and their rights in Poland and Serbia. We ask about the differences in ethical orientations of women in Poland and Serbia. Our results shows, that women from Poland has higher indication justice ethical orientation, then Serbian women. However this relation isn’t simple.
Artykuł jest raportem z badań porównawczych nad orientacjami etycznymi kobiet w Polsce i Serbii. Wyróżniamy dwie orientacje etyczne: na sprawiedliwość i troskę. Kontekstem społecznym do porównania jest sytuacja kobiet, ich praw w Polsce i w Serbii. Stawiamy pytanie o różnice w orientach etycznych badanych z Polski i Serbii. Wyniki badań pokazują, że kobiety z Polski uzyskają wyższe średnie orientacji na sprawiedliwość niż badane z Serbii. Jednak ta relacja nie prosta.

Idea prezentowanego badania zasadza się na analizie i interpretacji opisów dorosłej kobiety i dorosłego mężczyzny, dokonanych przez studentów i studentki. Wychodzimy z założenia, że zadanie polegające na opisywaniu kobiety i mężczyzny aktywizuje kryteria, jakimi posługują się ludzie w konstruowaniu zarówno własnej tożsamości, jak i tożsamości innych. A ponieważ kryteria te nie mają charakteru esencjalnego, lecz są konstruowane społecznie, otrzymane dane mogą być wskaźnikiem aktualnie działających w środowisku studentów presji kulturowych na określone wzorce kobiecości i męskości. Ich poznanie było celem naszych badań.
The idea of this study is based on the analysis and interpretation of the descriptions of adult men and women, submitted by students. We work on the assumption that the task of describing man and woman activates criteria used by people in the construction of both their identity and identity of others; as these criteria are not essential, but socially constructed, the acquired data may be an indicator of cultural pressures promoting specific patterns of femininity and masculinity among the students. Understanding just such patterns was our goal.

The authors present a grounded theory concerning teachers’ expectations of students and employers’ expectations of graduates. The analysis is based on empirical research while the interpretation of the results is based on critical theory. Employers’ expectations turned out to be wide-ranging and impossible for candidates. Teachers’ expectations, however, reproduced that part of employers’ expectations that can be linked to conformity, devotion, and faithfulness. In light of the authors’ interpretation, education fails to perform an emancipatory function, i.e. it fails to equip students with the critical competence necessary for active involvement in civil society. The labor market, on the other hand, is a dominating force that blocks the development of a discursive, open version of society. Graduates find themselves in a double-sided trap sprung on them, firstly, by education and later by employers.

The article provides an empirical analysis of a relationship between ethical orientations and educational self-efficacy. Ethical orientations are defined in the theoretical system of K. Gilligan, whereas self-efficacy is viewed through the social-cognitive theory. The results of the analysis of variance demonstrate the existence of statistically significant differences in self-efficacy between teachers who prefer the ethics of justice and those who prefer the ethics of care, in favour of the former. However, the Eta coefficient shows that the relationship strength is not very large. In conclusion of the result interpretation we explain what our research explicates and what lies beyond its capacity.

The article is concerned with the change of ethical orientations in the cycles of human adulthood. Theoretically, our analysis centres around two conceptual categories: C. Gilligan`s ethics of care and L. Kohlberg`s ethics of justice. The empirical studies will be aimed at finding differences in the ethical orientations of care and justice between men and women in the three cycles of adulthood. The data will be evaluated by a two factor ANOVA.
Artykuł dotyczy zmian orientacji etycznych w cyklach ludzkiej dorosłości. Teoretycznie, zaprezentowane w nim analizy koncentrują się wokół dwóch kategorii pojęciowych: etyki opieki C. Gilligana i etyki sprawiedliwości L. Kohlberga. Badania empiryczne miały na celu znalezienie różnic w orientacjach etycznych opieki i sprawiedliwości między mężczyznami i kobietami w trzech cyklach dorosłości. Zgromadzone dane zostały poddane weryfikacji poprzez dwuczynnikową analizę wariancji ANOVA.
Der vorliegende Artikel betrifft die Veränderungen der ethischen Orientierungen in verschiedenen Zyklen des Erwachsenenalters. Theoretisch beziehen sich die darin dargestellten Analysen auf zwei Begriffskategorien: „Fürsorgeethik“ von C. Gilligan und „Gerechtigkeitsethik“ von L. Kohlberg. Mit empirischen Forschungen setzte man sich zum Ziel, die Unterschiede in den ethischen Orientierungen der Fürsorge und Gerechtigkeit zwischen Männern und Frauen in drei Zyklen des Erwachsenenalters zu finden. Die gesammelten Daten wurden einer Überprüfung mittels der zweifaktoriellen Varianzanalyse (ANOVA) unterzogen.
