The article concerns the peculiarity of black humour in the newest Czech fi lms. Indicating the function and nature of Czech humour, the author subsequently describes Czech cinematography, focusing on fi lms made aft er 1989. In the commercial comedies and black comedies that she analyses, she points at diff erent aspects of black humour and refers to the features of Czech society.

Opis:
The article concerns the issue of mystification and hoax in Czech culture. It demon-strates historical aspects of this phenomenon and, basing on the example of various cul-tural texts, shows that the mystification as a means of artistic expression is deeply rooted in Czech culture. Surrealistic and illogical themes that are characteristic for Czech humour are used by artists, especially filmmakers, in creating successive mystifications. The article examines films such as Oil Gobblers (1988), Year of Devil (2002), Czech Dream (2004), Jara Cim-rman Lying, Sleeping (1983), in order to analyse the role of this phenomenon in both films that speak of mystification and the ones that are mystifications themselves.

Oskar Halecki’s reception in French historiography is one of the interesting examples of diffi-culties in understanding Polish historical thought in France. As one of the leading authors of the concept of East‑Central Europe in world historiography, a descendant of the Viennese aristoc-racy and an ambassador of Polish humanities in the League of Nations Committee on Intellec-tual Cooperation, he promoted the history of the countries of the region, considering their independent of Russia cultural specificity, deeply connected with the values of the Christian Europe. Opis:
Reflecting on the question of the contemporary condition of historical thinking, focusing on the case study of Poland, I consider the causes of the crisis of authority of the professional historian in the modern information society, in particular the lack of interaction between academic historiography and society. Against this backdrop, I propose a reflection on a possible modification of the understanding of the historian's profession for the sake of dialogue with the "ordinary" recipient of history.

Przedmiotem rozważań jest obecność i recepcja prac Daniela Beauvois na łamach wydawnictw Instytutu Literackiego w Paryżu („Kultura”, „Zeszyty Historyczne”, Biblioteka „Kultury”), a także sformułowana na ich marginesie postkolonialna diagnoza napięć, jakie w polskiej tożsamości narodowej wywołała obecność na Kresach Wschodnich.
This article presents the person of Daniel Beavois – a distinguished student of the Polish-Russian-Ukrainian relations in the post-partitioned era – and his contacts with the editors of the Paris ‘Kultura’. The author’s concern is also with the question of how Beavois’ work on the Polish nobility in Ukraine in the years 1831–63 was received among Polish post-war exiles, and with Beavois’ postcolonial diagnosis that emerged on the margins of his research and concerned the tensions to which Polish national identity was subject in Poland’s old eastern borderland (the so-called Kresy).

Teza: Celem artykułu jest analiza utworu Vítězslava Nezvala pt. Valerie a týden divů [Waleria i tydzień cudów] pod kątem zawartych w nim wątków, powiązanych z psychoanalityczną teorią Zygmunta Freuda. Książka o nastolatce poszukującej własnej tożsamości została napisana w latach trzydziestych XX w. w Czechach, wydana zaś po drugiej wojnie światowej. Utwór należy do gatunku prozy inicjacyjnej, ale charakteryzuje się zastosowaniem elementów surrealistycznej poetyki. Omówione koncepcje: Po opisie atmosfery awangardy i kontekstu historycznego, a także związków nadrealizmu i psychoanalizy, autorka artykułu przechodzi do analizy utworu Valerie a týden divů. Na podstawie wybranych elementów fabuły i poszczególnych bohaterów odwołuje się do koncepcji podświadomości, archetypów, kompleksu Edypa i romansu rodzinnego. Oprócz rozważań Z. Freuda autorka opiera się na pozycji Bruna Bettelheima Cudowne i pożyteczne: znaczenie i doniosłość baśni, aby na podstawie przykładów ukazać drogę inicjacji Valerie w dorosłość oraz poszukiwanie własnej seksualności. Wyniki i wnioski: Analiza bohaterów i wybranych elementów fabuły pozwoliła potwierdzić tezę o istnieniu związków pomiędzy treścią książki a psychoanalizą Zygmunta Freuda. Odnalezione wątki dotyczą szczególnie teorii podświadomości, archetypów, kompleksu Edypa i romansu rodzinnego. Ponadto autorka zwraca uwagę na elementy surrealistyczne czy jungowskie, takie jak inicjacja oraz funkcjonowanie sfery sacrum oraz profanum w utworze. Główna bohaterka Valerie jest rozdarta pomiędzy rzeczywistością a snem oraz między dorosłością a dzieciństwem, i pomimo przebytej podróży w poszukiwaniu własnej tożsamości, dochodzi do konkluzji, że nie zna samej siebie do końca, co jest jasnym nawiązaniem do teorii podświadomości człowieka. Oryginalność/wartość poznawcza podejścia: Analiza pozwoliła dojść do wniosku, że związki z podświadomością są w utworze widocznie zarysowane. Związki V. Nezvala z psychoanalizą są powszechnie znane, brakuje jednak (w szczególności w polskiej bohemistyce) opracowań konkretnych utworów literackich.
Thesis: The aim of the research is to find the connection between Freud’s theory of psychoanalysis and Vitezslav Nezval’s novel Valerie a týden divů [Valerie and Her Week of Wonders]. Story about the teenage girl in the search of her own identity was written in the 30’s of 20th, century in Czechoslovakia and is a part of the identity novels genre, but also contains some surrealistic elements. Concepts: After the description of the czech avant-garde atmosphere, historical context and connections between surrealism and psychoanalysis, the author starts with the analysis of the work Valerie a tyden divu. Basing on the chosen parts of the plot and specific characters she refers to the concepts of subconsciousness, archetypes, Oedipus complex and family romance. The author of the article used as base the Bruno Bettelheim’s book The Uses of Enchantment: The Meaning and Importance of Fairy Tales to show, with selected examples, the Valerie’s entrance into adulthood and search for self-sexuality. Results: Analysis of the characters and selected parts of the novel shows the connections with Freud’s psychoanalysis, especially theory of subconsciousness, archetypes, Oedipus complex and family romance. Author also focuses on the surrealistic aspects or Jung’s theory of initiation and categorisation of the scenes to sacrum and profanum components. The characters and selected elements of the novel shows the connections with psychoanalysis, and leads to the conclusion, that the text refers especially to human subconsciousness, mainly in the erotic scenes and in the archetypal features of the characters. The main character, Valerie is teared apart between reality and dream and between adulthood and childhood. Even though the journey she took in the find of her own identity, she finds out, that she does not know herself at all, which is a clear refferation to the theory of subconsciousness. Originality/value: The analysis lead to conclusion that relations with the human subconscious are clearly mark in the text. V. Nezval's relations with psychoanalysis are widely known, but there is a lack of studies (especially in czech literature studies on polish field) of specific literary texts.

Strukturalizm jako kierunek badań literaturoznawczych i lingwistycznych był w latach dwudziestych i trzydziestych XX w. wiodący na uniwersytetach I Republiki Czechosłowackiej. Artykuł skupia się na jednym z najważniejszych członków Praskiego Koła Lingwistycznego, strukturaliście Janie Mukařovskim i jego studiach na temat estetyki w duchu strukturalizmu. Przedefi niował on pojęcia estetycznej wartości, normy i funkcji, a także stworzył wiele innych elementów spójnej teorii naukowej. Przepracował zagadnienia struktury, semantycznego gestu i indywidualności w sztuce. Elementy jego teorii zostały użyte przez neostrukturalistów i dzisiejszych narratologów do analizy dzieł literackich.
Structuralism as an area in literary science researches was a main topic at the universities of the First Czechoslovak Republic in the Þ rst half of twentieth century. The article focuses on one of the most important members of the Prague linguistics circle, structuralist Jan Mukařovský and his studies about esthetics in spirit of structuralism. He has redeÞ ned the concept of esthetic value, norm and function and also made many others elements of coherent science theory. He has worked on the concepts of structure, semantic gesture and individuality in art. Elements of his theory were used by neo- structuralists and nowadays narratologists in the analyses of literary works.

Aim: The interwar period in Czechoslovakia was a time of societal anxiety. The aim of this paper is to find the central themes of societal fear, as reflected in the surrealist works of Vítězslav Nezval, a czech poet. The analysis will be based primarily on the lyric poetry from the collections: Žena v množném čísle [Woman in Plural] (1936) and Absolutní hrobař [Absolute Gravedigger] (1937). Methods: The analysis is based on the Josef Vojdovík’s anthropo-phenomenological method of exploring the surrealist perceptions of the body, which is based on vertical and horizontal anthropological dimensions and phenomenological conceptions of fears. Results: Surrealist poetry and other literary works contain images of the body that are changed by fear: deformations, metamorphoses, fragmentarisations, hybridisations, expressing the body as a collage, a mosaic, an amalgam, a phantom, a grotesque, an inlay, and as lifelessness. It undergoes multiple metamorphoses, not only within its own form, but also with regard to the categories of life and lifelessness. Conclusions: The analysis leads to the conclusion, that V. Nezval’s works show a clear tendency to portray the body as an object which undergoes a metamorphosis. The body is balanced on the edge between living and dead, organic and inorganic, it is determined by time and space. It is often shown along the narrowing-widening relation, in stupor, petrification, reduced to a flat surface or miniaturised.

Opis:
The UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage from 2003 was ratified by Poland in 2011. Since then numerous activities have been undertaken to popularise the knowledge of the Convention, its objectives and opportunities of promoting knowledge referring to cultural heritage. In Poland, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the National Heritage Institute are engaged in implementing its postulates. Members of non-governmental organizations, including members of the Polish Ethnological Society, actively participate in these activities. The article discusses circumstances accompanying the introduction of the Convention in Poland and characterizes main activities for its popularisation.
 Konwencja UNESCO z 2003 roku w sprawie ochrony niematerialnego dziedzictwa kulturowego została ratyfikowana przez Polskę w 2011 roku. Od tego czasu podejmowane są liczne działania na rzecz upowszechnienia wiedzy o Konwencji, jej celach i możliwościach promowania wiedzy dotyczącej dziedzictwa kulturowego. W Polsce wdrażaniem jej postulatów zajmuje się Ministerstwo Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego oraz Narodowy Instytut Dziedzictwa. W działania aktywnie włączają się przedstawiciele organizacji pozarządowych, w tym członkinie i członkowie Polskiego Towarzystwa Ludoznawczego. Artykuł omawia okoliczności wprowadzenia Konwencji w Polsce oraz charakteryzuje główne działania na rzecz jej upowszechniania.

Every discipline has its own special terms regarded to be the “difficult” ones. Very often these are part of the achievements of many generations of scholars, in the same time being components of colloquial language. Such an example for ethnology would be „folk culture”. The term is popularly understood as idealized pictures of Polish camp’s social life. For specialists, though, the term is very wide-ranging, multidimensional and set in a specific historical context. Still there is a ground for agrement and creation between academic research and popular understanding that involves activities taken by employees of cultural institutions. In their struggle to respond to a public demand, they face a dilemma of how folk culture should be widespread. On one hand, they see the presented topics to be appealing, they also recognize the possibilities lying in its educational values (craft’s demonstrations and workshops). On the other hand, they are aware of its artificialness and of their setting up meanings yet outdated. These dilemmas may as well be associated to the way ethnologists are educated in the field of regional cultures, where they are trained for potential ‘specialists’ of folk culture.

Thesis. Jan Švankmajer’s Kunstkammer is a project with a complex constellation of meaning that defies clear-cut categorization in the context of Pomian’s theory of semiophores.  Discussed concepts. The paper describes the kunstkammer art project created by Jan Švankmajer, a Czech surrealist, in the context of Pomian’s theory of semiophores and compares it to traditional and historical equivalents, using the concepts of micro- and macrocosm, the world as a stage (Theatrum Mundi), hermeticism, and alchemy.  Results and conclusion. Jana Švankmajer’s Kunstkammer should be analyzed primarily in the individual and subjective context, rather than in the social one.   Originality/cognitive value of the approach. Pomian has described many examples of traditional kunstkammers, but there are also several modern collections that have not yet been described in the literature.

Celem artykułu jest opisanie interakcji między zmieniającym się krajobrazem miejskim Poznania, zwłaszcza jego cmentarzy i terenów pocmentarnych, a (nie)pamięcią współczesnych poznaniaków dotyczącą dawnych jego mieszkańców. Badania ilościowe i jakościowe przeprowadzono w dwóch etapach. W pierwszym, opierającym się na metodzie wypracowanej na gruncie językoznawstwa, poddano analizie artykuły prasowe z „Głosu Wielkopolskiego” i lokalnego dodatku do „Gazety Wyborczej”, obejmujące lata 1990–2014. Na ich podstawie wyłoniono zagadnienia szczegółowe do wywiadów grupowych wśród czterech pokoleń poznaniaków. Tym sposobem możliwe było zbadanie pamięci o poznańskich Niemcach i Żydach funkcjonującej zarówno w dyskursie publicznym, jak i w nieoficjalnych rozmowach zwykłych mieszkańców miasta.
The aim of the article is to describe the interaction between the changing urban landscape of the city of Poznań and the (non)memory of the city inhabitants about its multi-ethnic heritage. The focus is on the cemeteries past and present, some of which were transformed into spaces with new functionalities. The quantitative and qualitative research was conducted in two stages. First, drawing on corpus linguistic methods, articles from two dailies: „Głos Wielkopolski” and „Gazeta Wyborcza” – the local supplement, covering 1990–2014 were analysed. This analysis led to the formulation of topics for the focus group interviews conducted among the four generations of Poznań inhabitants. In this way the collective memory about Poznan Jews and Germans could be investigated in its two dimensions: the public discourse of mass media as well as the semi-private discourses of communicated memory.

This study focused on relations between identity and sense of self-sufficiency. These relations were analysed in the context of educational and vocational activity. 204 persons without disabilities and 230 persons with different kinds of disability participated in the study. Participants were divided into three groups: (1) 18-24-year-olds – students, (2) 25-30–yearolds – unemployed and (3) 25-30–year-olds – employed. The results revealed that unemployed people have significant problems with identity formation. This group obtained the highest scores on ruminative exploration and the lowest scores on the scales of commitment making and identification with commitment. Self-sufficiency proved to be a moderator of the relations between educational/vocational activity on the one hand and exploration in breadth and exploration in depth on the other hand. In students, level of exploration was high in individuals with a high sense of self-sufficiency whereas in the unemployed strong exploration was observed in the group with low sense of self-sufficiency. The need to conduct studies where participants are recruited from populations which seldom attract researchers’ interest, such as the unemployed and people of low social status, is also noted.

The paper presents the Dual-Cycle Model of Identity Formation, a theory formulated in recent years by researchers from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, as well as a questionnaire created to verify the assumptions of this theory – the Dimensions of Identity Development Scale (DIDS). The authors make an overview of results of studies carried out using DIDS and describe the development process of the questionnaire itself. Since DIDS is currently being adapted for application in Poland, reports of the progress of the adaptation process and ratings of the psychometric value of this questionnaire are presented as well.

This paper presents a new research tool: the KRSS (Questionnaire on Coping with Ability Loss). The questionnaire is used to determine the stage of the process of coping with ability loss that the interviewee with acquired disability is at. The theoretical premise derives from the classic work by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross (2007) on coping with death, where several subsequent stages were identified: shock and denial; bargaining; depression; acceptance. Work on the questionnaire progressed in several steps: first, characteristic symptoms of each stage were described; then a set of statements linked to each stage was prepared; these were assessed by competent judges; next, the quality and number of statements were verified; a preliminary version of the questionnaire containing 39 sets was used to test 274 persons with acquired disabilities; the accuracy and reliability of each of the five scales and each of their positions was verified on the basis of the results; last, the final version of the questionnaire was produced, containing 27 statements. From this lengthy process was born a tool for diagnosing the current stage of coping with ability loss that is both short and simple to use. An accurate diagnosis of the coping stage may be a good basis for tailoring the professional activisation services to best fit the unique functioning of the individual in question.

W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki badania dotyczącego zmian tożsamości w okresie późnej adolescencji. W badaniu wzięli udział uczniowie trzech rodzajów szkół ponadgimnazjalnych: zasadniczych szkół zawodowych, techników i liceów. Pomiar przeprowadzono 5-krotnie – w trzech kolejnych latach 2012/2013, 2013/2014 i 2014/2015. Pierwszy pomiar został dokonany w pierwszym semestrze nauki w klasie pierwszej (średni wiek uczniów 16 lat), a pomiar piąty – w pierwszym semestrze klasy trzeciej (średni wiek uczniów 18 lat). We wszystkich pięciu pomiarach udział wzięło 118 uczniów (38% próby wyjściowej; n = 310). Narzędziem badawczym była Skala Wymiarów Rozwoju Tożsamości DIDS/PL. W grupie uczniów liceów zaobserwowano w ciągu 2,5 roku nauki wzrost eksploracji adaptacyjnej (wszerz i w głąb) i wzrost siły zobowiązań. Natomiast wśród uczniów szkół o profilu zawodowym, zwłaszcza zasadniczych szkół zawodowych, wystąpiły zmiany regresywne, takie jak spadek eksploracji adaptacyjnej, spadek zobowiązań, wzrost trudności z uformowaniem tożsamości (wzrost eksploracji ruminacyjnej). Wyniki potwierdziły, że odmienne ścieżki edukacji mogą wiązać się z różnicami pod względem zmian tożsamości uczniów w okresie adolescencji.
