This study determines the genetic diversity of 20landraces and released cultivars of tomato collected from Market places and research institutes in Nigeria. Ion homeostasis and cytotoxic sequestration significantly (P>0.05) affected by concentration of salt in a concentration dependent manner. Accumulation of Na+, Cl-, K+ and Ca2+ ions increased in salt treated groups (30 and 60 mg/L of NaCl) as compared to controls. Potassium ion uptake was salt concentration dependent in all cultivars; the magnitude of Na+/K+ levels is lower in released cultivars than in landraces cultivars. It can be concluded from these findings that Na+ was compartmentalized both in tomato by membrane transporters and that low level was a good indicator of salt tolerant in tomato genotype studied.

Opis:
Rapid urban growth and expansion pose daunting challenges in urban areas of the developing world. These challenges include the provision and equitable distribution of sustainable public water supply facilities. This study therefore aimed at assessing the extent of spatial inequality in the distribution of water facilities provision among major segments in Lapai urban centre, Nigeria to aid policy formulation and framework in achieving sustainable water supply. This study utilizes the Gini coefficient composite statistical tool to examine the distribution inequality of three main sources of public water facilities in the study area, which includes; hand pump boreholes, motorised boreholes, and wells. The study area is divided into four quadrants (quadrants A, B, C, and D). It was found out that 17.31%, 21.15%, and 37.50% Gini coefficients were recorded for hand pump boreholes, motorised boreholes, and well facilities. This indicates that there is inequality in the distribution of public water supply facilities among the four quadrants in the study area. It was therefore recommended that both the public and private sectors should provide public water facilities equitably to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Szybki rozwój i ekspansja miast stanowią trudne wyzwania w obszarach miejskich rozwijającego się świata. Wyzwania te obejmują zapewnienie i sprawiedliwą dystrybucję publicznych urządzeń wodociągowych. W związku z tym badania miały na celu ocenę zakresu przestrzennych nierównomierności dystrybucji wody w głównych obszarach centrum miejskiego Lapai w Nigerii w celu wsparcia formułowania polityki i ram w osiąganiu zrównoważonego zaopatrzenia w wodę. W niniejszym opracowaniu wykorzystano złożone narzędzie statystyczne ze współczynnikiem Giniego w celu zbadania nierównomierności dystrybucji trzech głównych publicznych obiektów wodociągowych na badanym obszarze, w tym: odwierty z pompą ręczną, odwierty z napędem silnikowym i studnie. Badany obszar podzielony jest na cztery ćwiartki (ćwiartki A, B, C i D). Stwierdzono, że współczynniki Giniego 17,31%, 21,15% i 37,50% odnotowano dla odwiertów z pompą ręczną, odwiertów silnikowych i obiektów studniowych. Wskazuje to na nierównomierność w rozmieszczeniu publicznych urządzeń wodociągowych w czterech ćwiartkach badanego obszaru. W związku z tym zalecono, aby sektor publiczny i prywatny zapewnił sprawiedliwe dostęp do publicznych obiektów wodociągowych tak, aby osiągnąć cel zrównoważonego rozwoju (SDG).

The present study is aimed at investigating the properties of Cassava starch for the production of adhesives as a career opportunity in chemistry education. Method of starch extraction, characterization and adhesive production for quality assessment was performed. The results showed that adhesives produced with sodium hydroxide as a gelatinization enhancer has a maximum drying time of 8.60 minutes and had a stronger bond. The work concludes that the adhesive produced is of good quality and can lead to re-inventing chemistry education as a career opportunity. However, the Cassava adhesive met the basic requirement for adhesive use and application. At the end recommendations were made, among others increase employment opportunities, also diversify the economic base of farmers and there is need for reorientation and attitudinal change towards entrepreneurial job.

For several decades, Nigerian cities have been experiencing a decline in their biodiversity resulting from rapid land use land cover (LULC) changes. Anticipating short/long-term consequences, this study hypothesised the effects of LULC variables in Akure, a developing tropical rainforest city in south-west Nigeria. A differentiated trend of urban LULC was determined over a period covering 1999–2019. The study showed the net change for bare land, built-up area, cultivated land, forest cover and grassland over the two decades to be -292.68 km2, +325.79 km2, +88.65 km2, +8.62 km2 and -131.38 km2, respectively. With a projected population increase of about 46.85%, the study identified that the built-up land cover increased from 1.98% to 48.61%. The change detection analysis revealed an upsurge in built area class. The expansion indicated a significant inverse correlation with the bare land class (50.97% to 8.66%) and grassland class (36.33% to 17.94%) over the study period. The study observed that the land consumption rate (in hectares) steadily increased by 0.00505, 0.00362 and 0.0687, in the year 1999, 2009 and 2019, respectively. This rate of increase is higher than studies conducted in more populated cities. The Cellular Automata (CA) Markovian analysis predicted a 37.92% growth of the study area will be the built-up area in the next two decades (2039). The 20-year prediction for Akure built-up area is within range when compared to CA Markov prediction for other cities across the globe. The findings of this study will guide future planning for rational LULC

As a step towards remediation of sulphur contaminants, this study used a Crowcon Gasman (gas detection instrument) to collect and analyze Sulphuric gas samples from densely populated areas of urban Zaria. The results showed varying concentrations of Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) and Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S). The high concentrations of these pollutants detected can be attributed to increased population growth, increased production of gaseous wastes and increased number of vehicular movement. The results indicate also that the concentrations of pollutant sulphur component SO2 measured at all sampling points, with exception of the control site were hazardous while that of H2S were within safe limit set by FEPA and ACGIH respectively. Statistical tests were performed which established significant variation/relationship between detected pollutants and traffic volume. Findings from this study imply that vehicular emission within urban Zaria is not within the safe limit which further reveals that transport-related pollution in Zaria urban area can be potentially hazardous to health.

The national total expenditure of a country is precipitated on several factors of which revenue generated could be one and very significant. This paper therefore examines the contribution of some selected sources of Nigerian government revenue to total national expenditure. Statistical and econometric techniques used for the data analysis are unit root test, cointegration test, combined estimators’ analysis, the error correction model (ECM) and the feasible generalized linear (FGLS) estimators. Results showed that the variables are non stationary but are stationary at first difference. The long-run relationship of total expenditure on oil revenue, non-oil revenue, federation account and federal retained revenue revealed that the variables are cointegrated and required the use of combined estimators. The effect of nonoil revenue and federal retained revenue is very significant. Investigations on the short-run modeling necessitated the use of FGLS estimators. The effect of ECM and federal retained revenue is very significant. Consequently, other sources of revenue apart from federal retained revenue need to be enhanced and tailored towards improving economic growth and development through national expenditure.
