During designing the ship its designer tends to achieve as-high-as possible efficiency of ship’s propulsion system. The greatest impact on the efficiency is introduced by ship’s screw propeller whose efficiency depends not only on its geometry but also distribution of wake current velocity. To change wake current distribution and improve propeller efficiency an asymmetric form is usually applied to stern part of ship hull. This paper presents results of numerical analysis of wake current velocity distribution, performed by using a CFD method for a B 573 ship of symmetric stern and the same ship of an asymmetric stern. Next, the mean values of screw propeller efficiency in non-homogenous water velocity field were calculated for both the hull versions of B 573 ship.

After signing ship building contract shipyard’s design office orders performance of ship resistance and propulsion model tests aimed at, apart from resistance measurements, also determination of ship speed, propeller rotational speed and propulsion engine power for the designed ship, as well as improvement of its hull form, if necessary. Range of ship hull modifications is practically very limited due to cost and time reasons. Hence numerical methods, mainly CFD ones are more and more often used for such tests. In this paper consisted of three parts, are presented results of numerical calculations of hull resistance, wake and efficiency of propeller operating in non-homogenous velocity field, performed for research on 18 hull versions of B573 ship designed and built by Szczecin Nowa Shipyard.

Chemical denudation plays a crucial role in affecting the water chemistry and the development of the relief, therefore the dissolution of carbonate rocks is the subject of numerous research. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of soil material derived from the organic (O) as well as humus (A) horizons of forest soils (common beech and Norway spruce stands) on the dissolution of rock. During one−year laboratory experiment standardized samples of dolomitic limestone placed in the soil material were washed with deionized water. The greatest loss of the sample rocks mass occurred in O material from Norway spruce stand (43.9‰ on average), while in other cases, the loss of rock samples mass was much lower and statistically non−significant. The total masses of calcium (Ca2+) leached from O material under beech and spruce stands were similar, however in the case of spruce most of Ca2+ derives from rock dissolution. Similarly, higher proportion of magnesium (Mg2+) leached from O material under Norway spruce derives from rock dissolution, although the total mass of Mg2+ leached is higher from O material under beech. The total mass of Ca2+ and Mg2+ leached from A material was similar or higher than from O material, however most of those ions derived from the soil material. The results indicate that the replacement of beech by Norway spruce can increase chemical denudation as well as Ca2+ and Mg2+ leaching, wherein Ca2+ leaching would be significantly greater than Mg2+.

The major goal of this article was to evaluate the efficiency of Linux operating system using statistical self-similarity and multifractal analysis. In order to collect the necessary data, thetools available in Linux such as vmstat, top and iostat were used. The measurement data collected witht hose tools had to be converted into a format acceptable by applications which analyze statistical selfsimilarity and multifractal spectra. Measurements collected while using the MySQL database systemin a host operating system were therefore analyzed with the use of statistical self-similarity and allowedto determine the occurrence of long-range dependencies. Those dependencies were analyzed with theuse of adequately graduated diagrams. Multifractal analysis was conducted with the help of FracLab application. Two methods were applied to determine the multifractal spectra. The obtained spectra were analyzed in order to establish the multifractal dependencies.

Celem badań było poznanie zróżnicowania cech teksturalnych oraz cech chemicznych osadów odprowadzonych ze zlewni tatrzańskich objętych wiatrowałem w 2013 roku. Zróżnicowanie to powiązane zostało z energią rzeźby zlewni oraz skutkami wiatrowału. W zlewniach dominowały osady złożone podczas małej dynamiki transportu, jednak dwie zlewnie charakteryzowały się pewnym udziałem (do 10%) osadów deponowanych w środowisku o większej energii. Jednak zróżnicowanie to związane jest z energią rzeźby badanych zlewni, natomiast wpływ wiatrowałów nie zaznaczył się jeszcze wyraźnie w cechach teksturalnych osadów.
The aim of the research was to recognize the diversity of the textural and chemical characteristics of the sediments removed from the catchments of the Tatra Mts., which were affected by the windthrow event in 2013. The diversity was related to the morphometry of the catchments and the effects of the windthrow event. In catchments sediments deposited during low transport dynamics dominated, two of the catchments were characterized by some percentage (up to 10%) of the sediments deposited in the high-energy environment. However, this diversity is connected to the morphometry of the studied catchments and up to this time impact of the windthrows is not clearly reflected in the textural characteristics of the sediments.

During ship design, service speed is one of the crucial parameters in determining the operational economy of the vessel. As sufficiently exact calculation methods applicable to preliminary design stage are lacking, the so-called contract speed, the speed which a ship reaches in calm water, is usually cited. Żelazny (2015) developed a parametric method for calculating total ship resistance under actual weather conditions (wind, waves, sea current). This paper presents a parametric model of a ship’s propulsion system (screw propeller – propulsion engine) as well as a method, based on both the resistance and propulsion system models, of calculating the mean statistical value of a ship’s service speed under the seasonal weather conditions occurring on shipping lines. The method makes use only of basic design parameters, and may be applied in preliminary design phase of container ships.

During ship design, its service speed is one of the crucial parameters that determine its future operational profitability. As sufficiently exact calculation methods applicable to preliminary design stage are lacking, the so-called contract speed, the speed a ship reaches in calm water, is usually specified during the draft stage. The service speed obtainable by a ship under real weather conditions (mainly wind and waves) is one of the most important parameters influencing a ship’s profitability on a given shipping route. This paper presents a parametric model of calculating total ship resistance on a given shipping route under actual weather conditions (wind, waves, sea current), that could be useful in the initial design of container ships.

Opis:
During operation of the ship, fuel consumption and associated emissions are very important for economic and ecological reasons. The fuel consumption is greatly influenced by the choice of shipping route, weather conditions on these routes and engine control criteria. The article presents its own algorithm for forecasting ship operation parameters, including fuel consumption on selected shipping routes for average, statistical (seasonal) weather parameters occurring on these routes. It shows what factors have the main impact on fuel consumption and how you can affect fuel consumption during the cruise in changing weather conditions.

From 2013 onwards Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) for new ships has been in force. The EEDI value for a given ship is calculated according to a standard formula and compared against a ship specific standard by means of a so called reference line which will be gradually changing (decreasing) in subse-quent years. The article presents possible ways of increasing ship propulsion efficiency in order to decrease ship propulsion power, EEDI value and CO2 levels.
Od roku 2013 obowiązuje projektowy wskaźnik efektywności energetycznej (EEDI) dla nowych statków. Wartość tego wskaźnika dla określonego statku obliczana jest według ustalonego wzoru i porównywana z normą dla tego statku (tzw. linią referencyjną), która będzie zmieniana (obniżana) w następnych latach. W artykule przedstawiono możliwości zwiększenia sprawności napędowej statku, a tym samym obniżenia mocy napędu wskaźnika EEDI i emisji CO2.

Opis:
One of the methods of collecting polymetallic nodules from the sea floor is a hydraulic system using a single or double vertical pipeline. While mining, collecting pipelines suspended from a mining support vessel (MSV) move together. As a result of both the MSV’s motion with a suspended pipe system and water action (including deep-water currents) a vertical deflection and deformation occur along the pipeline. Simultaneously, stretching and bending tensions emerge along the pipeline. The article presents computer simulation results of vertical deflection and tensions within single and double vertical pipelines with fixed force from the ship’s movement (linear movement at constant speed) and regular force from the waves.
