Opis:
During the 18th century, an increasingly strong individualistic attitude in the way of understanding the relationship between man and the tangible world spread throughout Europe. The legal institution which, more than any other, suffered from the effects of this reductionism was the Property as victim of incredible compression in comparison to medieval world. The exclusive model that the new Enlightenment and the bourgeois mentality wanted to adopt was the individual Property, to the detriment of all those forms of possession documented in the Middle Ages. The present study intends to investigate, in the geographical context of the Papal States, the great juridical dispute between the individualistic model – endorsed by the Sacred Legislator – and that of a collectivistic nature defended by the Community.

Opis:
The myth of Paris, formed in the Russian literature of the 18th – early 19th centuries, is an expression of the mythological consciousness in which the ‘space – time’ dichotomy is cyclical: it is a myth of eternal return. This Parisian myth was based on a set of oppositions between the cultural and intellectual orientations in the two countries. The Russian consciousness was characterized by a sense of lack of liberty and by inclination for reflection and hesitation, whereas the enlightened France prided itself on the clarity and concreteness of its thinking and was highly aware of its pioneering role in the political and cultural world of its time. Therefore, the Russian Parisian myth was accompanied by the motifs of travel, escape, release – an ‘eternal return’ to a dream. Several generations of Russian writers, from Trediakovsky to Pushkin, impressed it on the mythological consciousness of their readers by establishing an image of Paris as a feast of life, as a city of exceptional power of expression.

Opis:
In the beginning the author shows the historical process through which the concept of collegium took shape as a university residence for students and professors, a boarding house for students (not only in Poland but also in such countries as France, Italy, England, Spain, and Germany), a secondary school and a semi-high school (occupational or other) before going to university. The further parts of the paper is devoted to collegia as secondary schools. Starting from the 16th century on, collegia (secondary schools) were established in Poland. They were run by religious orders which can be defined as teaching orders. They were as follows: Jesuits, Piarists, Theatins, and Basilians. In the period of the Enlightenment, ie in the second half of the 18th century, other orders joined them. In order to satisfy the social need, they organized and ran secondary schools, e.g. Benedictines, Cistercians, Friars of the Tomb of the Lord, Regular Lateran Canons, Bartolomites, (also called communists for they strictly abode by the life in a religious community). The religious collegia comprised the teaching staff with its rector at the head, a number of didactic rooms, a church, and the religious home (with different names), the boarding house called a convict, a library, and a theatrical hall. In bigger centres there wad a printing house, a pharmacy with a hospital, research-didactic studies, an astronomical observatory, (botanic and fruit) gardens, workshops for production and service, and other buildings. The author gives the number of those collegia, discusses their structure and curricula in particular periods from the 16th to the 18th century. Similarly, he has characterized noble convicts, being part of the collegium and occupied with elite education for the future politicians and state officials. Their students came from nobel and magnate families. Now diocesan seminars were important didactic-educational institutions (in the 17th-18th centuries they provided a two-year and in the 19th century a four-year tuition. They were run by the Congregation of Missionaries of St Vincent a Paulo (Congregatio Sacerdotum Saecularium Missionis S.V. a Paulo). Finally, the author quotes a number of printing houses at the above collegia and seminar in Poland in the years 1700-1864 and points to the main types of their publishing production, such as: various kinds of handbooks, ABC books, catechisms, didactic manuals, calendars, posters and theatrical plays, sermons, prayer books, liturgical, historical, theological, and fiction works. He postulates further reach on the collegia and religious printing houses.

Opis:
Najwięcej urodzeń nieślubnych odnotowano w porze jesienno-zimowej – 54,5%, szczególnie w styczniu i lutym (poczęcia w kwietniu i maju). Najmniej dzieci nieślubnych przyszło na świat w czerwcu, sierpniu i listopadzie (poczęcia jesienne i zimowe). Większość dzieci z nielegalnych związków została ochrzczona w pierwszym dniu po urodzeniu (42%). W dniu urodzenia ochrzczono 17,8%.
The article presents extramarital births in the Roman-Catholic Parish in Łąka, in the Land of Pless, in Upper Silesia. The research has been based on the existing parish registers of baptism for the years 1664–1914. In that period 839 extramarital children were born in the parish, which is 7.6% of all the births. Of those 839 children 15 were stillborn babies, which means that there were 824 baptised extramarital children. The parish registers do not contain any information on the fathers and the data concerning the social, professional and territorial background of the mothers are rather poor. The most extramarital births used to occur in Autumn and Winter (54.5%), especially in January and February (conceived in April and May). The least extramarital births used to occur in June, August and November (conceived in Autumn and Winter). Most of the extramarital children were baptised on the first day after their birth (42%). On the very day of their birth 17.8% kids were baptised. 89.9% of the extramarital children – as in the case of the rest of the kids – were presented for baptism by a woman and a man. Only 10% infants were presented to baptism by one person, usually a woman. The above presented questions have been drawn up thanks to the aggregative method. The number of extramarital births in a rural parish is surprisingly high in comparison to others within the Regierungsbezirk Oppeln. The seasonal character of extramarital births did not differ from the seasonal character of the births of other children. And neither did the procedures of baptism in the two groups.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to describe the image of Grodno Castle in Zagórze Śląskie in the iconography from the $18^{th}$ and $19^{th}$ centuries. The subject of the research covered graphics which were made by draftsmen and engravers at the end of the 18th and the $1^{st}$ half of the $19^{th}$ centuries, i.e., at the moment of the greatest changes in the substance of the monument. The article analyzes the state of preservation of the walls of Grodno Castle in individual representations. First of all, the analysis covered residential wings of the upper castle as well as the buildings of the lower courtyard with particular emphasis on the elements destroyed, dismantled, or rebuilt during transformations of the castle in the $19^{th}$ century. Historic, analytical, and comparative methods were applied in our research. During the analysis, it was possible to describe and indicate the non-existent fragments of the upper castle buildings. According to the author, the gable above the southern wing and the attics are particularly important. The information collected in this way may be helpful in the future when trying to reconstruct the historic roof and restore its cubature. From the 1820s to the end of the century, major changes also took place in the lower courtyard. The farm buildings were demolished, i.e. stables, a shed and a bakery building with a bathhouse. The remnants of early modern roundel bastions have been adapted to tourist needs. The described non-existent structures of the lower castle may also be helpful in the future when trying to reconstruct these buildings.
Podczas badań stosowano metody historyczno-analityczne i porównawcze.

Opis:
The parish in Abramowice was mentioned for the first time in 1398, when the heir of the village, Sieciech, gave about 50 ha of unsettled land to the newly built church dedicated to The Holy Trinity, the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. James. In the Middle Ages, the parish also included neighbouring villages: Dominów, Skrzynice, Śmiłów (present Ćmiłów) and Wilczopole. In addition, the town of Głusk, after its foundation in 1687, became a part of the parish of Abramowice. In the 19th century, the following villages, from the Lublin parish, were incorporated into the Abramowice parish: Dziesiąta, Żabia Wola as well as settlements created about half of the 19th century: Kalinówka, Kliny and Kaleń. In the 20th century new parishes were established in some of these places. At present the Abramovice parish, apart from the districts of Lublin-Abramowice and Głusk, includes: Dominów and Wólka Abramowicka, located in the district of Głusk. Analysing the canonical visitations of the 18th century, it was possible to determine that the parish church in Abramowice dedicated to St. James the Greater Apostle had been built in 1674, and consecrated by the Bishop of Krakow Mikołaj Oborski the following year. It is also mentioned that originally the church was dedicated only to St. James the Great, but later other dedications were added: the Transfiguration, the Assumption and St. Adalbert. The church which have survived until today was built between 1786 and 1790 on the initiative of Rev. Wincenty Jezierski. It was consecrated in 1796 by the bishop of Chełm and Lublin Wojciech Skarszewski. The church was expanded in 1906 in accordance with the design of the famous Warsaw architect Stefan Szyller. Among other buildings which have survived are the neo-gothic bell tower and morgue, dating back to the end of the 19th century, and the presbytery of the years 1727-1728, expanded at the end of the 18th century, with a monumental six-column portico.

Opis:
The origins of the parish in Zemborzyce, which was probably created soon after the foundation of the village, dates back to the beginning of the 15th century. In 1748, the parish of Zemborzyce consisted of six villages: Zemborzyce, Krężnica (a branch), Trzeszkowice, Osmolice, Prawiedniki and Żabia Wola. It was inhabited by approximately 2,000 faithful. In the parish there was a hospital, which was located in an old building. The parish endowment included arable land, a garden, the right to fish on the River Bystrzyca, a brewery and a taberna with propination laws. In 1779, a new presbytery was built. The outbuildings included: a farm house, a granary, a stable, a cowshed, a barn, a shed for oxen, small stables and pigsties. At the church square there was also a building for an organist. In 1784, a new hospital was built. In 1849, the buildings at the church, apart from the presbytery, included: a servants' house, a curate’s house, a hospital, an inn and the following outbuildings: a stable, a coach house, a granary, a cowshed and a spacious barn. None of these buildings has survived until the present day. The wooden church of Zemborzyce was built in 1717, in place of the previous one. It was renovated several times. It was located to the east of the present church, at the former main road through the village, running over the River Bystrzyca. After constructing the brick church, which exists today, the old church was moved to Motycze near Lublin in 1918. The  neo-Gothic brick church, which survived to the present day, was built in 1906-1907. It was designed by the architect of Radom, Augusta Załuski.

Opis:
This paper describes some aspects of the lives and artistic activities of Anna Binetti, Maria De Caro, and Giovanna Campilli, “prima ballerinas” who lived between the second half of the 18 th century and the beginning of the 19 th century. This research aims to highlight how these personalities practised as choreographers at a time when this profession was principally a male prerogative. Through the analysis of ballet programmes and contemporary sources, this paper investigates an area that has been little explored in the studies of the history of dance that is, the female presence as an “artistic subject” in the theatre of Italian dance. Thus, this phenomenon is contextualised in the broader cultural landscape of the time and focuses on three case studies of women choreographers who, whilst isolated in their extraordinariness, often converged significantly in their performance venues, in particular in Venice and Naples, and in personalities such as Jean-Georges Noverre and Maria Carolina of Austria. What is most interesting is that this approach highlights possible relationship networks and, thus, may open new avenues of research.

In this article, the author’s focus is on his personal library – one of the most substantial book collections in Eastern Europe in the second half of the 18th and early 19th centuries, which has never been analyzed before. The article not only analyzes the composition of Varlaam Shyshatsky’s library, but also compares this collection with the personal libraries of other figures belonging to the same social group. The analysis is grounded in the broad context of the history of reading and book culture in Europe. Based on a number of criteria, it is concluded that significant changes in the culture of reading took place in the Ukrainian lands of the Russian Empire in the second half of the 18th century – first and foremost the emergence of ‘extensive’ reading and development of a number of new cultural practices among the ‘enlightened elite’. The composition of the library of Varlaam Shyshatsky also attests to the cultural uniqueness of the region and argues in favor of the thesis about the existence of a ‘Ukrainian Enlightenment’ as a phenomenon with national and regional specifics of its own.
