It is expected to reflect several current tasks connected with, for example, the migration of people in Europe as well as with the preparation for language competence.

Opis:
Developing and providing a register of rights and regularities underpinning the work of prospective teachers is a complex process. The current transmissive model of training in Poland does not meet the expectations with respect to preparation of new teaching staff. Thus designing new models of teacher training, including early childhood education teachers, should function in parallel with practical activities. In this article, I present a competence model of teacher training, which is my original proposal. It is the outcome of analysing theoretical and empirical achievements, and our own experience. The basic area of activities undertaken as part of teacher training is the development of relevant substantive competencies resulting from the student's selection of a specific subject area, psychological and pedagogical competencies, communication skills as well as methodological competencies, resulting from the specificity of the chosen subject area. The theoretical perspective of the proposed model is determined by the ideas of constructivism and the general taxonomy of learning outcomes by Ziemowit Włodarski. I divided the competence model of training into four stages: 1) simple student with learner-pupil contacts; 2) student as a teacher assistant; 3) student as an accompanying teacher; 4) student as an independent teacher.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie pilotażowej fazy projektu skierowanego do przyszłych nauczycieli języka angielskiego, jako obcego, w której dokonują oni ewaluacji swojej wiedzy, podejścia i świadomości międzykulturowej oraz znajomości różnic i podobieństw pomiędzy współpracującymi ze sobą, a odległymi społecznie, kulturowo i językowo instytucjami kształcącymi przyszłych nauczycieli w Izraelu i Polsce. Zebrane dane stanowią podstawę do stworzenia innowacyjnego międzynarodowego projektu, wykraczającego poza ramy dotychczasowych kursów szkoleniowych dla przyszłych nauczycieli języka angielskiego w obu krajach. Projekt pilotażowy stanowi więc początkową, niezwykle istotną fazę, oceniającą stopień, w jakim przyszli nauczycieli są gotowi przekraczać bariery społeczno-kulturowe, językowe i psychologiczne, niezbędne do współpracy w tandemie. Grupa czternastu przyszłych nauczycieli języka angielskiego z Uniwersytetu Opolskiego wzięła udział w projekcie pilotażowym, mierzącym gotowość do przekraczania ww. granic. Narzędziem pomiarowym był kwestionariusz, składający się z pytań zamkniętych i otwartych, dotyczących, między innymi, świadomości różnic w podejściu do nauczania języka angielskiego jako obcego w kraju partnerskim. Analiza pozyskanych danych ilościowych i jakościowych posłużyła do nakreślenia obszaru tematycznego w przyszłym projekcie Kształcenia Nauczycieli Języka Obcego na Odległość w Tandemie (Tandem Learning Teacher Training project – TLTT).
The aim of the paper is to present the results of a pilot project for foreign language (FL) teacher education, in which trainee teachers’ knowledge and awareness of intercultural and cross-educational similarities and differences between two cooperating institutions from socio-culturally and linguistically distant countries – Israel and Poland – are elicited. The data collected serves as a springboard for designing an international project for FL trainee teachers to be implemented as a part of a teacher training course. In the project the trainee teachers coming from geographically, culturally and linguistically detached backgrounds, Israeli and Polish, are to participate in tandem learning understood as paired sessions of knowledge and experience exchange between FL trainee teachers via online communicators. The pilot phase, therefore, is an initial but indispensable stage evaluating the extent to which trainee teachers are ready to confront and share their educational background, cultural and linguistic knowledge with their peers from a geographically and socio-culturally distant country. A group of fourteen trainee teachers of Opole University participated in the pilot project measuring the participants’ readiness to engage in crossing the aforementioned borders with the help of a closed and open-item questionnaire focusing on the degrees of awareness of a number of aspects, for instance, culture and L1-based differences in approaching FL teaching. The application of the instrument generated quantitative and qualitative data, whose analysis supported the design of the final Tandem Learning Teacher Training (TLTT) program.

Teaching EFL in primary school is no longer a novelty but firmly established in the education landscape throughout Europe and many countries worldwide. Primary English language teaching (PELT) is a unique branch of ELT insofar as it entails both the teaching of children and beginners. While PELT teachers and PELT teacher educators largely agree that this concurrence of ‘young plus beginning’ requires a focus on vocabulary, speaking and listening, introduced and practiced through songs, games, stories, roleplaying and embodiment techniques such as Total Physical Response, pragmatic aspects often take a backseat in PELT teacher training and by extension in the PELT classroom, even though it has been established that pragmatics instruction is necessary and feasible on all proficiency levels, right from the beginning. This article discusses possible reasons for this omission and illustrates with authentic examples why pragmatics should play a bigger role in the training of primary English teachers

The paper introduces the concept of a critical incident (CI) in the context of foreign language teaching and discusses its importance for teachers` professional development as a factor leading to a teacher´s awareness of his/her classroom. The ability to diagnose critical incidents is seen as an inseparable part of a teacher´s ability to control the teaching context and thus create critical events (CE). This paper also introduces the concept of an appraisal system (Smith and Lazarus 1993 ), understood as one´s evaluation of the relationship between one´s success and failure in respect of past experience and the ability to adapt to an immediate context. In my analysis I will follow Scherer´s (1984) taxonomy of components of appraisal systems such as novelty, the pleasantness of a task and coping potential, among others. This appraisal system is seen as emotionally-driven but it also emphasizes the cognitive dimension and the interaction between affective and cognitive processing. In the empirical part of the paper, the study on CI in teaching EFL is reported on. The main objective of the study was to make in-service teachers of EFL reflect upon their most memorable critical incident (CI) and evaluate it from the affective point of view. The study was also to make the subjects more aware of themselves and their classroom presence. The research instrument used in the project was the Geneva Appraisal Questionnaire -GAQ (Scherer 2001), based on Scherer´s taxonomy.

In his article, the author outlines the values preferred by teachers and those aspiring to the profession. The presented data point to a very broad convergence between what teachers and students indicated with regard to their attitude towards values. Although one can observe certain, rather subtle, differences (related to, among others, the socio-demographic characteristics of those surveyed), they are of secondary importance and do not cause the axiological bases for the functioning of both groups to differ. What is significant is also the placement of such values as safety, responsibility and children. These values have a static character, connected with necessity and, at the same time, with the need to maintain one’s property. They proved to be slightly more appreciated by teachers than by students. The research shows one essential yet weak correlation: two values, wisdom and honesty, find a slightly wider acknowledgement among teachers than among their future colleagues. The same can be said of the case when the same values are chosen as primary. In this context, referring everything that takes place in the social space to distant, better times seems to be justified. No matter how it was in the real historical dimension, it appears justified to assert that it is undoubtedly better to live in an environment where the majority of those representing a given professional group (especially one as important for the social structure as teachers) recognise the importance of wisdom and honesty.

Discourse, however, might be also useful in the context of Teaching Practice. On the one hand, the analysis of classroom discourse could be used in deeper formative evaluation of the trainee. Analysis of this evaluational dialogue could support not only the growth of teaching strategies but could also significantly contribute to the formation of a reflective attitude of the future teacher. In this paper I present an analysis of a feedback session which refers to a lesson conducted by a teacher trainee form Bydgoszcz Teacher Training College of Foreign Languages and answer the question how useful this element can be in the creation of the reflective practitioner’s attitude.

From research on policy implementation and reform in education, it is well known that change is either very slow or tends to fail. Implementation is a complex procedure, not a direct transfer from government policy to practice (Younie, 2006). There is also research-based knowledge about planning and implementing of ICT strategies in Finland and difficulties in this implementation (Lavonen, Lattu, Juuti, & Meisalo, 2006). Consequently, it is challenging to help student teachers or practicing teachers to adopt use of ICT in education. We will focus here mainly on initial teacher education (TE) according to the OECD ICT in Initial Teacher Training (IITT) project aims. In general, there is a broad agreement on reasons and methods why and how ICT should be integrated to TE. The importance of this area can be seen in that there are specific associations for promoting research in this area like the Association for Information Technology in Teacher Education and many more whose activities expend to this field like the Finnish Association for Mathematics and Science Education Research in Finland.

Elektroniczna obecność w nauczaniu języka angielskiego jako międzynarodowego – wspomaganie procesu kształcenia nauczycieli zadaniami tele-współpracy Wobec wielu badań empirycznych i publikacji praktycznych poświęconych definiowaniu i rozwijaniu kompetencji interkulturowej i interkulturowej kompetencji komunikacyjnej uczniów, dużo mniej badań dotyczyło kompetencji, umiejętności i postaw nauczyciela niezbędnych dla prowadzenia procesu glottodydaktycznego z uwzględnieniem różnic kulturowych uczniów w klasach wielojęzycznych i wielokulturowych (por. Farrell i Martin 2009; Krajka 2010; Wysocka 2013). Uwzględnienie globalnego wymiaru nauczania języka obcego stało się koniecznością we współczesnej edukacji językowej, a umiejętne wykorzystanie elementu współpracy zapośredniczonej przez Internet (telecollaboration) pozwala na nadanie bardziej autentycznego wymiaru kształceniu językowemu. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie możliwości zastosowania wybranego formatu zadań realizowanych we współpracy zapośredniczonej przez Internet, ‘elektronicznej obecności’ (electronic appearances) w procesie rozwijania umiejętności nauczania języka angielskiego jako języka międzynarodowego (Teaching English as an International Language – TEIL) na neofilologicznych studiach magisterskich.
While a great amount of research has been devoted to defining and developing intercultural competence and intercultural communicative competence of learners, fewer studies have focused upon the competences needed to choose materials and methods, plan, organise and implement language teaching in a culturally-sensitive way (e.g., Farrell and Martin 2009; Krajka 2010; Wysocka 2013). Focusing on global dimensions of language teaching has become a must in contemporary Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) education, and skilful integration of telecollaborative projects can authenticate culture-sensitive teacher education. The paper shows the use of a selected telecollaborative format, ‘electronic appearances’, to supplement Teaching English as an International Language (TEIL) class at a post-graduate TEFL programme.

W artykule zaprezentowano cele projektu badawczego, skoncentrowanego na uchwyceniu stosunku studentów edukacji przed- i wczesnoszkolnej do zróżnicowania kulturowego i językowego w edukacji.
Through their pro-inclusive attitudes towards learners from minorities and learners with special educational needs, teachers contribute to their acceptance by the majority and intact population. Not only abroad but also in the Slovak Republic, due to migration the cultural composition of the population has been changing. Teachers in their classes educate learners from different cultures, whose mother tongue differs from the language they are being educated in. On the basis of the literature, it appears that a large number of pre-service and in-service teachers still find themselves insufficiently prepared for work with the culturally and linguistically diverse pupils (Flores, Smith 2008 cited by Vázquez-Montilla, Just and Triscari, 2014). On the basis of the analysis of PISA 2009 findings (OECD, 2010c), it appears that the achievements of learners with immigrant background, hence from a culturally and linguistically different environment, within international testing are also influenced by their success in testing. The article comprises a presentation of the aims of a research project focused on capturing attitudes of pre-primary and primary education students towards the cultural and linguistic diversity within education.

Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the article is to present model Teacher Training Schools in Poland on the example of the implemented project ”Teacher Training School in the commune of Rawicz" and to present recommendations in the field of supporting teachers’ competences participating in the project. Design/methodology/approach: The article presents the Teacher Training School model as an innovative system of supporting teachers' competences. Selected aspects of the Teacher Training School functioning established as part of the project co-financed from EU funds are presented. The conclusions from the diagnostic tests (carried out for 7 supported schools, teachers and principals) were indicated in the light of their expectations for forms of support aimed at the development of professional competences. Two diagnostic methods and tools were used in the research process: CAWI survey – online survey research addressed to 66 teachers, based on respondents completing an electronic questionnaire using the Microsoft Forms tool, and CATI survey – computer-assisted telephone interview, conducted by the interviewer with 14 principals and deputy principals of schools, according to a predefined script. Findings: The results of the diagnosis of the schools’ needs, of teaching staff in particular, made it possible to specify teachers’ expectations within four subject areas (mathematics, ICT, natural sciences and language) towards the willingness to learn methods and techniques, as well as tools and technical means supporting the learning processes. At the same time, conditions for maintaining the durability of the introduced changes and strengthening the obtained effects were identified from the point of view of school principals and deputy principals. Research limitations/implications: The assessment of the effectiveness of the impact of the Teacher Training School in the commune of Rawicz presented in the article will be possible only after the completion of the project as part of the ongoing project evaluation. Practical implications: The results of diagnostic tests, including the expectations of teachers and managers, allow for detailed planning of workshops and cooperation networks in the project ”Teacher Training School in the commune of Rawicz”. Social implications: The implementation of model Teacher Training Schools in Poland will have a social dimension that will directly affect the development of teachers and indirectly increase the key competences of students. Originality/value: The presented model of the Teacher Training School as well as the conclusions of the conducted research constitute a recommendation for the needs of practical training of teachers from primary schools in Poland.

Aim. The aim of the research is to describe the model for lesson planning on peace education in teacher training. The used resources are aimed at filling the shortcomings in peace education and improve the value of the materials available to teachers. In preparing the lesson, a teacher, will either use the models available to him/her or develop his/her own models in time. Concept and Methods. This study was conducted by qualitative research. The document research technique was used in the study (Yıldırım & Şimşek, 2008, pp. 187-193). For the last three years, I have been working on the model related specifically to peace education as part of the project of the Turkish research institute called TÜBİTAK. Result and Conclusion. This model was presented during the academic year 2017/2018 at several conferences in Turkish, German and English. In this article, the topic of "Tolerance Towards Different Cultures" was chosen to define the practical part of the lesson preparation because this topic is of particular interest to many countries, due to migration. The refugees experience certain problems in the areas of language, culture, employment, social acceptance and prejudice. In order to minimize these problems, various measures are taken in the field of education. Originality. The participants showed great interest in the designing of the daily lesson planning and the implementation of this design in the teaching of peace in the training of the teachers. The studies in this field should be supported in order to increase peace education.   Keywords: Migration, cultural diversity, tolerance, peace education, lesson planning

Opis:
Edukacja dla bezpieczeństwa to przygotowanie społeczeństwa do przeciwdziałania wszelkim zagrożeniom bezpieczeństwa. Pełni ona ważną rolę w przygotowaniu do powszechnej obrony.
Education for safety is a preparation of the society to prevent any security threats. It plays an important role in preparing for general defence. It is therefore expected that the curricula are relevant to contemporary challenges and threats to security and that teachers of education for safety are adequately prepared for the realisation of the curriculum’s content. Currently in Poland security education teachers are trained in three-semester postgraduate programmes. Participants in these classes are teachers of different subjects, often completely unrelated to security issues. The paper presents a programme of training students of the Physical Education Academy of the department of physical education in the uniformed services as an alternative form of training teachers in physical education and education for safety.

Opis:
Modern language policy in Europe has put forward the concept of multilingualism, and with this plurilingual competence. The definitions of both phenomena can be found in numerous documents of the Council of Europe, especially in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The authors of this document describe multilingual communication in some detail, where the native speaker user is beyond the scale. A lot of attention is currently being given to issues of multilingualism in education, with numerous articles, suggestions for teaching activities and tools to develop related skills. This article raises the question of the preparation of future teachers of languages which will be taught as the second foreign language (L3) and how plurilingual competence can be developed in the classroom. The study, conducted among students of Romance languages answers the following questions. Are students, who are future L3 language teachers, adequately prepared to develop plurilingual competence in their students? Do they have the appropriate knowledge and practical skills to do this? What are their beliefs regarding the role of different languages when teaching the L3 target language?
