The paper discusses Shakespeare’s preoccupation with the Christian notions of divine love, forgiveness and justice in The Tragedy of King Lear. In my reading I employ Jean-Luc Marion’s phenomenological reflection on the givenness of love and Hans-Urs von Balthasar’s theology of Paschal mystery. I take issue with the Marxist and existentialist interpretations of Shakespeare’s tragedy which prevailed in the second half of the $20^{th}$ century. My aim is not a simple recuperation of the “redemptionism” of the play, but an in-depth consideration of Christian allusions in the play which may tie love and forgiveness to justice and throw light on the ending of King Lear.

Opis:
The article takes up the theme of Agamben’s violence without a form of justice and reads Shakespeare’s tragedy as spanned between Cordelia’s “nothing” at the start of the play and Lear’s “never” at its end. It also approaches a question of the relationship between, in Rousseau’s word, “l’homme naturel” and “citoyen.” Lear’s push towards a position of being “unaccommodated” suggests a move away from the organization of life previously holding its rule over men towards a marginal, peripheral zone with uncertain rules where man has to risk his own decisions rather than merely follow the custom.

Opis:
King Lear exemplifies two cultures of feeling, the medieval and the early modern one. Even though the humoral theory lay at the heart of the medieval and the early modern understanding of emotions, there was a sudden change in the understanding of specific medieval emotions in Renaissance England, such as honour as an emotional disposition. Emotional expression also changed, since the late Middle Ages favoured vehement emotional expression, while in early modern England curtailment of any affective responses was advocated. Early modern England cut itself off from its medieval past in this manner and saw itself as “civilized” due to this restraint. Also some medieval courtly rituals were rejected. Expression of anger was no longer seen as natural and socially necessary. Shame started to be perceived as a private emotion and was not related to public shaming. The meaning of pride was discussed and love was separated from the medieval concept of charity. In contrast, in King Lear the question of embodiment of emotions is seen from a perspective similar to the medieval one. The article analyzes medievalism in terms of affections and studies the shift from the medieval ideas about them to the early modern ones.
King Lear unaocznia dwie kultury uczuć, kulturę średniowieczną i renesansową.

Based on the analysis of sources it can be stated that Polish presence near the king was constant and significant. The most significant officials temporarily supported the king, but did not accompany the ruler on his military campaigns. The king held Polish–Hungarian joint councils from as early as 1440. It is most probable that a significant part of the Poles took the Hungarian efforts of Władysław seriously, and many noble families saw great potential in a Hungarian service. In this paper we endeavored to call attention to the fact that a vast amount of Polish‑related genealogical data (seals, itinerary supplements) can be found from this era in the Hungarian and Austrian archives. We hope that this collection will provide assistance to many in their research.

Then, the precise survey of proceeding and provisions of the council is made with analysis of the content of the chapters and their textual correlation. In the conclusion is stressed that the council’s chapters standing close to the Eastern discipline are derived from universal canonical collections, and that the above-mentioned council should be regarded as first step in the longer process of reception of the Gregory VII’s canonical reform.

The paper presents the strategy of redevelopment of the post-industrial King’s Cross area in London – one of the biggest European investments in the last years (the surface of approx. 67 acres), which could be considered the perfect case study for similar works. The author described in details the investment process, as well as the principles and effects of functional and spatial changes that have led to creation of the new system of open space, adaptation of selected post-industrial buildings for new functions (also the buildings proclaimed as a monument) and also fostering a new urban dimension to the wastelands. Detailed architectural issues are presented on the example of 3 squares: Granary Square, Pancras Square and King’s Cross Square. Field research was realized from 2011 to 2016.

Opis:
This article analyzes the scene of the Sasanian king combating a lion in two rock reliefs. Most Sasanian Bas-reliefs belong to the first 150 years of the dynasty and most are located in modern Fars province. The reliefs typically depict the king’s investiture by a deity (who is usually Ahurā Mazdā, but, in some reliefs, Mithra or Anāhitā), the king with courtiers, the king with his family, the king at war, the king’s triumph over his enemies, and the king fighting and hunting wild animals. Two of the bas-reliefs of the king killing animals show him killing lions. One is located at Sar Mašhad and the other, less-known, is kept in the Haft-Tanān Museum, Shiraz, and was discovered at the foothills of Pahnu (Pahnā) Mount in Dārāb. In the ancient Near East, the lion symbolized power, courage, and ferociousness: whoever could confront it successfully was regarded as powerful and brave; consequently, many kings have been portrayed fighting lions (and other wild animals) during this period.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to delineate the representation of kingship in Tudor and Stuart England and its articulation in Shakespeare’s political drama, through the examples of Richard II (1599) and King Lear (1606), two illustrative plays of the respective eras. Conceived of as two-bodied, the sovereign is, from early medieval times, positioned in an uneasy liminal state whereby his natural body is also the incarnation of the mystical concept of the everlasting Body politic. Anxieties over this seemingly unbreakable continuity of mystical kingship become nonetheless palpable as Queen Elizabeth I lies dying, leaving no heir to the throne of England. The first Stuart monarch hence reinforces the doctrine of The Divine Right of Kings by confidently advancing the unique precedence of godhead over manhood in the monarch. Set in this context, Shakespeare’s two political figures question the validity of the king’s impregnable nature as they grapple with their human condition exposed to all mortal ills. When Richard II’s “tears wash away (his) balm” and his meta-physiological body withal, Shakespeare exposes the frailties underneath the fiction of the monarch’s two-bodied nature parodied in King Lear as “every inch a king”.

Manasseh of Judah: an idolatrous ruler and murderer to be condemned, as depicted in 2 Kgs 21:1-18, or a converted sinner and restorer of his kingdom, a pattern to follow, as presented in 2 Chr 33:1-20? These two biblical portrayals of the king cannot be reconciled without raising questions about the assumptions of the biblical historiographers who built up two alternative traditions about this biblical figure. The case of King Manasseh is therefore an intriguing example of the Chronicler’s reinterpretation of historical material found in the Books of Kings. It is argued that particular narrative strategy and theological issues lie behind this vision of the king and its significance for the addressees of both writings. Consequently, the biblical figure of Manasseh is somehow biased, and its historical reconstruction has its limitations.

Opis:
Martin Luther King Jr. cannot be said to have addressed the problem of terrorism in general because he proposed his philosophy of non-violence resistance within the context of the oppression, injustice, segregation, violence and discrimination suffered by the African Americans. Nevertheless, his philosophy captured ways by which we can fittingly address the problem of terrorism. Many of the methods of non-violence given by Martin Luther King Jr. are of paramount importance in the face of terrorism. His philosophy is basically important today in Nigeria owing to the fact that our unity as a country is threatened by the recurring activities of terrorism and as such we are at a cross road in the history of our country, where drastic decisions have to be taken to address this perilous trend. The philosophy of non-violent resistance as proposed by Martin Luther King Jr. is a veritable step towards a working solution, as it is not only an outcry against terrorism of any sort, but also an ideology that frowns against any form of action that results in the taking of human life or the carnage that comes with violence. His non-violent resistance theory which he developed after a deep study of Mahatma Gandhi’s theory of non-violence, is a radical approach towards the fight against violence of any sort inflicted on the African Americans of his time, an action borne of a passionate fight against racism. So, to aptly address the problem of terrorism in Nigeria, it is necessary we consult and apply some principles of the philosophy of non-violence resistance as postulated by Martin Luther King Jr.

Opis:
Isotopic and palaeomagnetic studies were carried out in the central part of King George Island. Selected mafic to intermediate igneous rocks were sampled for this purpose. Single-grain U-Pb dating of zircons from basalts to dacites was controlled by a whole rock 40Ar-39Ar data and the magnetostratigraphy. Five magmatic activity phases were distinguished in the SE coast of King George Island. The oldest, late Cretaceous (Campanian) phase represented by basalts of the Uchatka Point Formation are followed by the early to middle Eocene (~53–43 Ma) phase documented by the lava flows whose ages decrease from SW to NE. Next younger magmatic activity phases were recorded by the lava flows or vertical intrusions emplaced in the late Eocene (~37–35 Ma), late Oligocene (~~28-25 Ma) and late Pliocene to Holocene. The early to middle Eocene magmatic activity phase was the most extensive, producing the largest volume of magma in the study area. The new age determinations allow a more precise and credible stratigraphic correlation of the interbeds of sedimentary rocks observed in some places within the magmatic succession. The glacial provenance of the Herv' Cove diamictite is not obvious. It might represent a mountain river environment. Intense volcanic activity could be additional factor modelling the climate conditions of Antarctica in Paleogene

assassination of King Alexander I in 1934
Opis:
The article discusses the circumstances of the assassination of King Alexander I of Yugoslavia in October 1934 in Marseille, France. The results of research served as a basis for the analysis of the course of events related to the assassination of King Alexander I, including the political context of the murder, its direct background and the earliest consequences for both Yugoslavia and the international scene.Within the broad spectrum of research issues involved in the assassination, there are some worthy of special attention, such as the organisation of King Alexander I’s visit to France, the characteristics of the assassin, the internal situation in Yugoslavia after the monarch’s death, the reactions of other governments to the event, and the investigation launched into the attack, followed by the steps taken in order to internationalise it.The basic research material for the analysis consisted of Serbian and Polish press articles from the interwar period, which constitute not just a reliable source, but often the only source available-yet a truly fascinating one. Moreover, the findings demonstrated in the present article have been verified in relation to the (often insufficient) Polish and international literature in this subject, as well as the archival materials available at the Yugoslavian Archives in Belgrade. The variety of approaches applied made it possible to discuss the circumstances of King Alexander’s assassination in great detail, otherwise unavailable in just one single publication. It also reveals the incompetence of the French police of that time and explains, at least in part, the background of the plot to kill the Yugoslav king.

In the sense of the Baire Category Theorem we show that the generic transformation T has roots of all orders (RAO theorem). The argument appears novel in that it proceeds by establishing that the set of such T is not meager - and then appeals to a Zero-One Law (Lemma 2). On the group Ω of (invertible measure-preserving) transformations, §D shows that the squaring map p: S → S^{2} is topologically complex in that both the locally-dense and locally-lacunary points of p are dense (Theorem 23). The last section, §E, discusses the relation between RAO and a recent example of Blair Madore. Answering a question of the author's, Madore constructs a transformation with a square-root chain of each finite length, yet possessing no infinite square-root chain.

Opis:
Dahsha [Bewilderment] is an Egyptian TV series written by scriptwriter Abdelrahim Kamal and adapted from Shakespeare’s King Lear. The TV drama locates Al Basel Hamad Al Basha, Lear’s counterpart, in Upper Egypt and follows a localized version of the king’s tragedy starting from the division of his lands between his two wicked daughters and the disinheritance of his sincere daughter till his downfall. This study examines the relationship between Dahsha and King Lear and investigates the position of the Bard when contextualized in other cultures, revisited in other locales, and retold in other languages. It raises many questions about Shakespeare’s proximity to the transcultural/transnational adaptations of his plays. Does Shakespeare’s discourse limit the interpretation of the adapted works or does it promote intercultural conversations between the varying worldviews? Where is the Bard positioned when contextualized in other cultures, revisited in other locales, and retold in other languages? Does he stand in the center or at the margin? The study attempts to answer these questions and to read the Egyptian localization of King Lear as an independent work that transposes Shakespeare from a central dominant element into a periphery that remains visible in the background of the Upper Egyptian drama.

Opis:
Volcanic rocks from the Lions Rump area, which are the basement for a sequence of glaciomarine sediments of the Polonez Cove Formation, and lava flows from the Turret Point–Three Sisters Point area were sampled for thermogeochronological and palaeomagnetic investigations. Generally, andesitic lavas from King George Bay area consist mainly of clinopyroxene (Ti-augite) orthopyroxene (hyperstene) and plagioclase phenocrysts. The groundmass comprises mostly plagioclase laths, clinopyroxene, titanomagnetite and rare orthopyroxene crystals. However, the modal content, size, shape and distribution of phenocrysts are variable and specific for each sample. The Ar-Ar plateaus ages calculated for lavas from the Lions Rump area are very homogenous and point to middle Eocene age (Lutetian, ~44.5 Ma). The similar and consistent ages for volcanic basement for that area excluded the thesis about separate tectonic evolution of the Warszawa and Kraków blocks at least since the middle Eocene. The lavas from Turret Point and Three Sister Point are younger and were emplaced during the late Eocene (Bartonian/Priabonian: 37.3 š0.4 Ma and Priabonian: 35.35 š0.15 Ma, respectively). The results of isotopic investigations are consistent with magnetic polarities of the rocks indicating that the samples from the Lions Rump area are coeval with the lower part of the C20 polarity chron whereas the sample from Turret Point can be correlated with the upper part of the C17 polarity chron

Opis:
This paper takes a relevance-theoretical approach to the English translation of “Дзікае паляванне караля Стаха” (1964), the Belarusian novel written by Uladzìmìr Karatkevìč – “King Stakh’s Wild Hunt” (translated by Mary Mintz, 1989). In doing so, it proposes a different perspective on the alleged ‘untranslatability’ of minority literature. The analysis takes into account various procedures applied to the different elements of the novel and reveals that Mintz makes strategic choices aimed at choosing the best solution for each problem individually.
