Opis:
The geodetic measurements of surface geometry can be performed with new laser scanning technologies. This paper presents the results of such measurements of external surface of cooling tower using Leica TCRP 1201+ tacheometer and Image Station 03 video tacheometer. The overlapping data sets of consecutive scans were investigated in order to propose a method to compound partial surface scans. The data analysis included estimation of systematic errors in common sections of scans. The results of obtained surfaces were compared with precise point measurements using Leica TCRP 1201+.

Opis:
Purpose: The aim of this work is to characterize the surface geometry of the orthodontic archiwire and their influence of the pitting corrosion resistance and bacterial adhesion. Design/methodology/approach: In the paper, the results of the SEM/EDS analysis and microscopic observation of the samples surface and analysis of geometrical structure with the use Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) and Confocal Microscopy were presented as well as the pitting corrosion test and surface roughness and microhardness measurements were performed. Additionally the microbiological study after bacterial breeding with the use Scanning Electron Microscope was carried out. Findings: In the basis of the investigation, it can be concluded that the surface geometry of archwire has a significant impact on their pitting corrosion resistance in artificial saliva solution and on the bacterial adhesion. The obtained results show satisfactory properties and surface geometry of the tested orthodontic wires for use in the human oral environment. Research limitations/implications: In the future, it is planned to extend the research with physicochemical properties and the influence of oral hygiene products on the corrosive behaviour of the material. Limitations in the conducted tests refer to archwire design – a small diameter making measurements difficult. Practical implications: The oral environment is an extremely aggressive corrosive environment. The orthodontic elements should have very good corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. The focus should be on continuously improving orthodontic wires in terms of material quality and topography of its surface topography. Originality/value: The research is conducted in the field of biomedical engineering, which is part of material engineering and is used for the field of dentistry and microbiology.

Opis:
The paper describes the possibilities of bevel gears kinematics design on the basis of the motion graph and improving modifica-tions to cut the pinion teeth flanks. The result is the ability to increase the accuracy of the kinematic transmission. The issue of changing the geometry of the pinion gear is considered in respect of a gear intended for the use in aviation, which requires the cooperation of high quality meshing. The basic geometric features that have been modified include the profile angle, the angle of tooth line, crowning trans-verse and longitudinal and lateral surface twist angle of the tooth. The modification of each of the selected geometrical parameters has had a different effect on the chart of transmission. It has been shown that the effect of the intended changes in the geometry of the pinion may reduce the deviation of motion delays gear and an improve the gear transmission chart.

The factors influencing the atmosphere-ocean transfer of mass and momentum, as well as incipient wave breaking and the amount of energy dissipated due to breaking, are discussed in detail. In particular, the influence of directional spreading on the statistics of surface wave slopes and the area of the wind- roughened ocean surface is demonstrated. Theoretical analysis and comparison with the available experimental data show that unimodal directional spreading is not able to reproduce the observed ratio of the cross-wind/up-wind mean square slopes. Better agreement is achieved when bimodal directional spreading, consisting of two wrapped-Gaussian distributions, is applied. The bimodal form suggested by Ewans (1998) is used in the paper. Moreover, the formulae developed here show that the increase in the area due to surface waves is rather small for both regular and irregular waves.

Opis:
This article presents results of experimental tests of internal cylindrical traverse grinding in which the total machining allowance is removed in a single pass. Grinding wheels with zone-diversified structure made on basis of abrasive grains from Al2O3 were used in the process. Such tools are characterized by different construction of rough and finish grinding zones. Moreover, conic chamfer is shaped on their active surface that allows for even distribution of machining allowance on the grinding wheel surface. What is described in the hereby work is a device for precise shaping of conic chamfer on the grinding wheel active surface (GWAS). The work also presents results of tests whose aim was to determine the influence of grinding wheel macrogeometry on the process of internal cylindrical traverse grinding of internal cylindrical surfaces made from steel 100Cr6. Changes of selected parameters of the machined surface geometric structure (Ra, Rz, RSm, Rdq and RTp) and values of the grinding power P were analyzed. It was proved that the greater the conic chamfer width, the better the results.

Opis:
The results of investigations of sliding pairs in material matching (e.g. steel-steel) are presented in the article. The examinations were realized with the utilization of a T-11 tester with the modified sliding pair of the type ball-disc in uniform contact. To facilitate pit formations, the disc surface was subjected to burnishing. The friction coefficient values were compared in reference to co-operating elements with pits of differential geometry and without depressions. It was demonstrated that presence and the geometry of depressions in the surface influenced the tribological characteristics of the operating sliding assemblies.

One of the most important procedures in modern surface metrology is digital filtering. It is realized by many filters which are complicated mathematical tools for analysis of a wide variety of surface characteristics. In practice, filters are used among others for denoising, correcting the data obtained from measuring tools and displaying important characteristics of surfaces. The ISO committee is continuing works to develop the standards of the ISO 16610 group, concerning the digital filters. This group contains description of various filters, namely: linear profile filters (basic concepts – ISO/DIS 16610-20, spline filters - ISO/DIS 16610-22, spline wavelets – ISO/DIS 16610-29), morphological profile filters (basic concepts – ISO/DIS 16610-40, disk and horizontal line-segment – ISO/DIS 16610-41, scale space techniques – ISO/DIS 16610-49), robust areal filters (Gaussian regression filters – ISO/DIS 16610-71) and areal morphological filters (segmentation – ISO/DIS 16610-85). The paper presents examples of technical surface topography analysis using the specialized computer software TalyMap and SPIP. There is also proposed a methodology of assessing the surface topography in 3D

Opis:
The paper presents the results of research and analysis of the effect of joining by the RFSSW method of alclad sheets made of Al2024 with an anodic oxide coating, with the using the tool with modified geometry of the front surface of inner sleeve. The different effects of the modifications made on the phenomenon of plasticization and stirring of materials in the process of creating a weld, microstructure of welds and mechanical strength of lap joints were shown. The tests were carried out on 1.27 mm thick sheets, with the use of an unmodified tool and modified tools with three variants of the geometry. The welds and the joints samples were subjected to metallographic and strength tests. It has been shown that the use of a properly selected modified geometry has a beneficial effect on the transport of materials to be joined in the joint zone (flow pattern of plasticized layers and the stirring effect) during the welding, which translates into the strength of the joints and the nature of the weld failure.

Opis:
A reconstruction of the last glacial maximum (LGM) ice surface geometry in the Polish High Tatra Mts. (drainage basins of Roztoka and Rybi Potok) is based on detailed field mapping of glacial trimlines. Obtained field data provide evidence of the ice surface elevation within the ice accumulation areas and in some cases they indicate direction of ice flow. The LGM ice-surface geometry is presented as a digital elevation model (DEM) which was created using geographic information system (GIS). Calculations of ice thickness and ice volume are based on DEM of present land topography. Reconstruction of the ice extent within ablation area is created using archival data. During LGM, the Roztoka glacier and the Rybi Potok glacier were a typical valley glaciers included into a huge glacial system being a dendritic glacier. According to acumulation area ratio (AAR) method, equilibrium line of these glaciers was situated at an elevation of about 1400 m a.s.l. It shows that nearly the whole area of the drainage basins of Roztoka and Rybi Potok have been an ice accumulation area supplying the Biała Woda glacier during LGM. Equilibrium line altitude (ELA) depression in relation to modern ELA (2300 m a.s.l.) was about 900 m. Assuming temeperature lapse rate of 0,6oC/100 m, a mean summer temperature in the Tatra Mts. was lowered of about 5,5oC. Ice area and its volume calculated for accumulation areas indicate that their relations to one another are nearly identical. It can be evidence for similar precipitation in both the Roztoka and the Rybi Potok drainage basins and an indicator of atmospheric circulation pattern which have determined climate in the Tatra Mts. during LGM.
