The authors approach the topic of editing and publishing primary legal-historical sources from the perspective of Croatian legal history as an academic discipline. Based on the earlier texts by Jakov Stipišić and Ivan Filipović, the first part of the text discusses several possible approaches towards the editing and publishing of documents, showing that critical intellectual activity is required already when the initial scope and mode of selecting and preparing the sources is decided upon. As a consequence, editing and publishing priorities are more or less directly connected to the particular interests and general methodological presumptions shared by the archivists, librarians and (legal) historians of a given society. The second part of the text – based on the works of Stjepan Antoljak, Zrinka Nikolić-Jakus, Mladen Ančić and personal insight – is thus dedicated to the most significant or illustrative (either in a positive or a negative way) source-editing and publishing projects on what is today the territory of the Republic of Croatia, in as much as some of them were influenced not only by strictly scientific, but also by political or ideological reasons. Pre-modern as well as modern and recent legal acts and other historical sources, including those typical of popular oral culture, are taken into account here. Finally, the authors reflect on the possible future of great editing projects, fearing that digitalization is only an incomplete answer to the precarious status of humanities and (historic) social sciences.

Google PageSpeed Insights oraz analizie popularności systemów w serwisach społecznościowych i forach internetowych, wyciągnięte zostały wnioski, stwierdzające, która z platform jest lepszym wyborem.
This article compares two open source platforms supports e-commerce, such as: Wordpress with Woocommerce plugin and Magento Community Edition. The paper shows pros and cons of both systems. The main functionalities of them were tested and showed. Based on research - conducted measuring the speed of web page load by using online tools such as Google PageSpeed Insights and system popularity analysis based on social media and Internet forums, conclusion were made.

This paper discusses the history of the first critical edition of the Hildebrandslied. The sole extant version of the famous Old High German epic, preserved only in fragments, was copied on the first and the last page of a codex dated to the 8th/9th c. and written in Fulda. The first scholarly edition of the Hildebrandslied was published in 1812 by the Grimm brothers who were also the first to recognize the poem’s alliterative verse form.

The paper explains the methodology applied in the edition of historical legal sources of major importance for the 19th and 20th centuries Slovakia – the edition of the Provisional Judicial Rules (“PJR”) of the Judex-Curial Conference of 1861. At the Conference, legal scholars and politicians adopted a decision to abandon the previous twelve years of neoabsolutism and centralism introduced by the Austrian law, and opted for a renewal of the traditional Hungarian legal system with some changes introduced by the laws of March 1848 (the March Constitution of 1848). At the same time they retained some rules of Austrian origin and created some rules that were entirely new, particularly in the field of civil procedural law and inheritance law. While evaluating the legal nature of the PJR, the literature used to claim that they never became law because Parliament of 1861 was not created legally (representatives were not elected under the electoral law enacted as part of the March Constitution of 1848) and because the monarch, Francis Joseph I, had not yet been crowned (his coronation took place in 1867). Therefore the legislative process could not be successfully completed. The only solution that was reported to was the recognition of the exceptional situation which dominated in Hungary between 1861–1867 – it was the period between neoabsolutism and another provisorium, a period of “limited constitutionalism”. Under such conditions it was not possible to meet the formalities of official legislation process. Thus PJR could become binding only de facto – through the power of persuasion. However, after a corpus of case law began to consolidate during several years, it could be argued that the PJR was transformed from the actual source of judicial decision-making into customary law.

This paper examines the history and contemporary practice of the edition of privileges in the context of the term “source of law”. In all legal systems, the term “source of law” has a quality of normative power or of authority for the decision-making processes. In this sense, the research question decides about their property as sources of law. This raises the question of the content and function of privileges in the history of law. While the individual and special privilegia form a contrast to common law or general legislation as leges privatae, on the other hand, they are also part of the greater category of law and legislation in general. This accounts for their enormous instrumentality in the creation of legal systems. Privileges may extend to all matters of private and public law (economy, trade, invention, jurisdiction, constitution, rights of estates etc.). They have appeared as a mass phenomenon since the Middle Ages. The different characteristics of the sources in turn connote both problems and possibilities for their edition, both in the past and the present. Different forms and functions of their publication and edition can be distinguished for the Ancien Régime. Publications of privileges of estates often served political interests, the publication of private-law privileges, thus, served to protect individual legal positions and their probability in court. Today, the edition of privileges is determined by the research objectives in European legal history and, in the face of the mass phenomenon of this type of source, is hampered by the problem of criteria for their selection. Editions on the jurisdiction and economic development in the Old Reich have been published in Germany and Austria in recent years (1980, 1981). They attest to the traditional power of privileges and show the important meaning for the ordering and shaping of law up until the 19th century.

Opis:

The plan of Kalisz by Andrzej Politalski is the oldest geometrically accurate depiction of the town. Compiled in 1785, it has survived to this day in a redrawing by Ottomar Wolle in 1878 at the scale of 1:3,000. The author discusses the process of developing the edition of Politalski's plan for the “Kalisz” volume of the Historic Towns Atlas (HTA) and compares it with editions in other volumes. The most recent (2021) volumes developed in three diferent centres were chosen as comparative material: Biecz volume (Kraków); Fordon, 2nd edition (Toruń); and Racibórz (Wrocław). Each volume adopts diferent editorial rules, although, in general, they conform to the overarching principles of redrawing a map at the scale of 1:2,500. The diefrences touch on virtually all aspects (source material, scope of content, non-cartographic elements), but they are united by the aforementioned common scale and purpose. Developing the edition of Politalski's plan was preceded by genetic analysis and the identification of filiation of its remaining copies. The original (1785) has not survived, nor has the first redrawing (1800). We only have a redrawing by Wolle (1878), which was the basis for the development of the plan for the HTA. In addition to this, we also have several other less significant versions. Politalski's plan was georeferenced, its content was vectorised, and cartographical representation was created. The result has been put together with selected editions elaborated to date. A distinctive feature of the work on the “Kalisz” volume is the use of a redrawing of the original as a source plan, as it is - in fact - its historical edition. The author also draws attention to the issues of standardisation of data models and, consequently, of legends between particular volumes.

The article is a review of the first volume of the critical edition of Norwid’s prose developed by Rościsław Skręt. The review focuses on the choice of works for editing and print, on establishing the status of source texts, determining the form of the texts for print, performing language modernization and associating the textual material with iconography. Examining the actions undertaken by the editor in all these dimensions, one can put forward a claim that his work tries to follow two contradictory editorial directions. The editor developed an innovative canon of Norwid’s prose and managed to avoid mistakes made by his predecessors. At the same time, one can observe that the editor restrained himself from departing too far from the solutions adopted by the previous editors. This latter tendency is particularly evident on the linguistic plane. Hence, one can describe the reviewed edition of the text as a half-way revolution.

The article concerns Zofia Lipska from Potocki family – a daughter of Polish poet Wacław Potocki. It is the first edition of funeral speech given at the funeral of Zofia Lipska by Aleksander Minor. The manuscript of the speech is a part of Minor’s Silva rerum and it has not been published yet although it constitutes an important supplementation to the biography of Potocki family. The speech is prefaced by an analysis of the text, as well as by the biography of Zofia Lipska and presentation of her image depicted in the poems of her father.

The paper is about the theoretical and practical proposals of genetic criticism and its complicated relations with academic editing. The author discusses the benefits from applying that method of reading manuscripts, the related difficulties and possibilities of using its effects in digital editing. Examples of existing digital genetic editions are presented, with practical tips regarding the technical aspects – including the language used for encoding manuscripts and digital reconstruction of the text-producing process – related to such a presentation of a text in a digital environment.

À partir d’un corpus d’une dizaine d’ouvrages (des éditeurs Belfond, Bordas, Buchet, Corti, Girodias, Laffont, Nadeau, Nyssen, Pauvert, Verny et Zylberstein), cet article esquisse une petite poétique des mémoires d’éditeurs, genre qui oscille entre autobiographie, histoire et portraits, et qui conjugue mémoire individuelle et mémoire collective. L’étude porte sur les différentes composantes et les topoï de ce type de récit : le récit de formation, les motifs de la passion pour la lecture et le livre comme objet, le récit de fondation, la description des tâches de l’éditeur (choix des manuscrits, accompagnement des auteurs, course aux prix littéraires…). Présentant une vision pragmatique de la production du livre, les mémoires d’éditeurs apportent un éclairage alternatif et précieux sur la littérature : contexte historique de sa production, conditions matérielles et financières de la création, stratégies auctoriales et éditoriales, rapports entre auteurs et éditeurs, et ils offrent une galerie de portraits dans laquelle les écrivains apparaissent sous un jour nouveau.
Based on a corpus of ten works (of the following publishers: Belfond, Bordas, Buchet, Corti, Girodias, Laffont, Nadeau, Nyssen, Pauvert, Verny and Zylberstein), this paper tries to define a small poetics of publishers’ memoirs, a genre which oscillates between an autobiography, a story and a portrait, and which mixes individual and collective memory. The study focuses on different components and topoï of this kind of narratives: a Bildungsroman, themes of passion for books and a book as an object, a foundation story, a description of a publisher’s tasks (choice of manuscripts, supporting authors, running for literary awards, etc.). Presenting a pragmatic view on the production of books, publishers’ memoirs offer a gallery of renewed portraits of different writers, as well as afford an alternative and interesting glance at literature, and in particular at: historical context of its production, material and pecuniary conditions of its creation, author’ and publishers’ strategies, relationships between authors and publishers.

Zaproponowano architekturę wirtualnego oscyloskopu wykorzystującego telefon z maszyną wirtualną J2ME; przedstawiono metody służące do realizacji systemu oraz jego ograniczenia.
The article proposes an architecture of a distributed measuring system that uses Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) mobile phone as one of its elements. Significant advantages over SMS and WAP-based systems are presented. Capabilities and limitations of J2ME-based systems are shown and their best fitness for the purpose is manifested for foreseeable future.

Kontakty Romana Palestra z Polskim Wydawnictwem Muzycznym możliwe są do odtworzenia dzięki korespondencji zachowanej w spuściźnie kompozytora, zdeponowanej w Archiwum Kompozytorów Polskich Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej w Warszawie. Są to przede wszystkim listy od przedstawicieli wydawnictwa do kompozytora, a w niektórych przypadkach także zachowane przez twórcę kopie lub brudnopisy listów własnych. Korespondencja ta dzieli się na trzy części, obrazujące losy kontaktów twórcy z jego polskim wydawcą w kontekście zmieniających się warunków politycznych: 1) do ogłoszenia informacji o emigracji kompozytora, 2) w okresie tzw. odwilży popaździernikowej; oraz 3) w ostatnich latach życia twórcy – po zniesieniu zapisu cenzury na jego nazwisko. Artykuł przybliża zarówno obraz zachowanej korespondencji, jak i najważniejsze wątki relacji między Romanem Palestrem a Polskim Wydawnictwem Muzycznym w okresie od 1947 do śmierci kompozytora, z uwzględnieniem sytuacji politycznej w kraju.
Roman Palester’s contacts with PWM Edition can be reconstructed based on correspondence which has survived as part of the composer’s legacy deposited at the Archives of Polish Composers, kept at the University of Warsaw Library. These are mostly letters from representatives of the publisher to the composer, and in some cases also copies or rough drafts of the composer’s own letters, which he preserved. This correspondence can be divided into three stages, which reflect the artist’s contacts with the Polish publisher in the context of changing political circumstances: 1) before his emigration was announced; 2) during the so-called political thaw following the Polish October (of 1956), and 3) in the last years of his life, when censorship of his name and works had been lifted. My paper discusses both the surviving correspondence and the main aspects of relations between Roman Palester and PWM Edition between 1947 and the composer’s death, in the context of the political situation in Poland.

The article is concerned with the edition of Cyprian Norwid's Promethidion prepared by Stefan Sawicki. The recognized theoretician, historian and interpreter of literature appears here both as the author of a comprehensive monograph of Promethidion and as an experienced editor embracing the central categories of the poet's viewpoint and artistry, and, on the other hand, with a linguistic precision analyzing particular expressions and tropes. His discerning analysis, careful textological edition of the text and comprehensive interpretation of the poem serve each other. The edition, albeit designed for a broad group of readers, meets the requirements of a critical edition, gives a lot of precisely justified amendments, the necessary explanations, and a list of variants of the text. In the sphere of meanings and structures the poem glitters with variety and shows many aspects of the problems. “Concepts-keys” that are central to the poem are the concept of art (“with no limits”) whose definition is in many ways completed by the concepts of beauty, love, work, good and truth, “constantly approached as if from the side of the conscience”. They are made manifest in utterances by many subjects that have differentiated styles and genres, which is done by means of peculiar techniques (amplifications, approximations, speaking by negation assuming the form of a dialogue, the “counterpoint” technique, evoking the value “by negating anti-values”). However, the whole forms a cohesive “Norwidian collage”, and the image of a “superior speaking subject” appearing as an “image of a prophet of the contemporary Church” has a clear author's stamp. Hence, the message of the poem is perceived “as the voice of a poet: a real one, convinced that what he wants to convey to the society is just”

During the period of twenty years between the wars in Poland there was a need for books in Latin, especially school books such as student books, obligatory readings and so called cribs. These books were published by many companies operating in different parts of Poland and they were usually grouped in publishing series : one of these series was “KsiąŜnica Tłumaczeń Łacińskich” published in Łódź by a family company of the Mittlers between 1928 and 1932. 44 volumes published as a part of this series contained translations and preparatory materials for Latin texts which belonged to the list of obligatory reading and were adjusted to grammar-translation method which was widely used at that time.

This paper presents the second critical edition of the poem “Rozbój duchowny” (“Spiritual warfare”) written by Polish poet from 17th century Wacław Potocki. The first edition, published in 1980, prepared by Jan Malicki, has some editorial mistakes, hence the poem was edited again. The commentaries explain biblical and mythological references, the meaning of Old-Polish words as well as the proverbs. The author also points out to the relationship between the text of the poem and work “Spirituale Christiani militis certamen” by Antwerp engraver Hieronymus Wierix and describes the theme of the knight of Christ as a leitmotiv in Potocki’s poems.

The article attempts to present in a synthetic way (also in the axiological aspect) the editorial work of Juliusz Wiktor Gomulicki. The editions of Norwid’s ouvre prepared by Gomulicki, especially the first complete edition of the poet’s writings, were published mainly in the years 1944–1989. Undoubtedly, Gomulicki’s greatest editorial success was the full coverage of Norwid’s writings. However, there were also some flaws, such as the excessive “biographisation” of his editorial commentaries, erroneous readings and peculiar, in the literary sense, interpretations. Furthermore, Gomulicki marginalised Norwid’s activity in the area of plastic arts (cf. his lithograph Solo). Also his genological classifications and categorisations, which had a great influence on the layout and form of the corpus of Norwid’s writings, raise some serious doubts. Finally, it is also impossible to recognize the critical and scientific character of this publishing endeavour, which Gomulicki willingly and constantly stressed.

Opis:

The article is an analysis of the oldest Polish guidebook to Rome written by Rev. Andrzej Wargocki – O Rzymie pogańskim i chrześcijańskim ksiąg dwoje (Two Books on the Pagan and Christian Rome) dating back to the 17th century. The object of interest here is the contemporary edition of the book in the series “Humanizm. Idee, nurty i paradygmaty humanistyczne w kulturze polskiej – Inedita” (“Humanism. Humanist ideas, currents and paradigms in Polish culture – Inedita”). The author briefly presents the contents of Wargocki's work, and then he focuses on a discussion of the critical apparatus accompanying the main text. He especially stresses the discussion of the contents and the arrangement of the introduction written by Jacek Sokolski and the description of the commentaries and explanations added to the main text. Using this opportunity the author wonders if the commentaries should be extended, because of the contemporary cultural changes resulting in an ever greater lack of understanding of the issues, realities and the literary language of past epochs. He also offers detailed remarks about the principles of transcription, in which the editors did not avoid making small mistakes.

The fathers of the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council decreed that ‘liturgical books are to be revised as soon as possible’ (SC 25) with respect for all the theological, historical and pastoral criteria (cfr. SC 23). In SC 92c it is clearly laid down that ‘the accounts of martyrdom or the lives of the saints are to accord with the facts of history’. For that purpose, in 1964, Pope Paul VI set up a special Counsil (Concilium) to carry out all the decisions and directives contained in the above-mentioned Constitiution on the Sacred Liturgy. One of the first and most basic decisions was to create thirty-nine study groups, which were to prepare new editions of reformed liturgical books. Each group consisted of five to seven consultors of whom one was leader (relator), another secretary. The 24th study group was responsible for the new edition of the Roman Martyrology (De martyrologio). The catalogue if Saints and Blesseds was checked, and the lives of the Saints (eulogia) and data of their litugical cult were critically analysed and coordinated. This material formed the basic catalogue. Important stages on the way to the final edition of the Martyrology were studies of two proto-type versions. These were not complete drafts of the Martyrologium; their purpose was to provide consultors and experts with sample discussion material in the form of specimens. On 21 June 2001, Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Cardinal G. M. Medina Estevez, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, signed the decree for the publication of the typical edition of the Martyrologium Romanum, revised as a result of and in the spirit of renewal of Vatican II.

Opis:

Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie problematyki związanej z edycją Epitafium opata Ditharda, dokonaną przez Wojciecha Kętrzyńskiego w 1893 r. w szóstym tomie Monumenta Poloniae Historica. Wbrew powszechnie przyjętej za sprawą tego uczonego informacji Epitafium opata Ditharda nie wchodziło w skład rękopiśmiennej kolekcji tzw. źródeł oliwskich (Fontes Olivenses). Ten wierszowany utwór pochwalny na cześć pierwszego opata klasztoru oliwskiego powstał najprawdopodobniej w XIII w., a znany jest dziś głównie z drewnianej tablicy z XVII w., znajdującej się w archikatedrze oliwskiej w Gdańsku, której Wojciech Kętrzyński nie znał z autopsji. Wydał on Epitafium opata Ditharda, biorąc za podstawę kopię tekstu zachowaną w rękopisie kórnickim sygn. BK 65, zdjętą z tego tabulatum w 1749 r. Z uwagi na fakt, że istnieje starsza kopia tekstu tego dzieła, zapisana w rękopisie gdańskim (APG, sygn. 940/422), zdjęta nie z tabulatum, a z piętnastowiecznej polichromii, edycję Kętrzyńskiego należy dziś uznać za niewystarczającą.
This paper seeks to acquaint the readers with problems related to Wojciech Kętrzyński’s 1893 edition of Epitaphium Dithardi abbatis [Epitaph of abbot Dithard] in volume six of Monumenta Poloniae Historica. In contrast to the information the scholar disseminated which was subsequently commonly adopted, Epitaphium Dithardi abbatis was not a part of the hand-written collection of the so-called Oliva sources (Fontes Olivenses). This laudatory work in a verse form, in honour of the first abbot of the Oliva monastery, was probably created in the 13th century, and today is known mainly from the 17th-century epitaph tablet surviving in the Oliva Cathedral in Gdańsk, which Wojciech Kętrzyński did not see personally. He issued Epitaphium Dithardi abbatis taking as the basis a copy of the text surviving in the Kórnik manuscript call no. BK 65, copied from this tablet in 1749. Today, in view of the existence of an older copy of the text, included in the Gdańsk manuscript (APG, call no. 940/422) copied not from the tablet but from the 15th-century polychrome, Kętrzyński’s edition should be considered insufficient.

Opis:

In this article efficiency analysis method of Java EE applications was presented. Efficiency's measures of such kind of applications were described. Furthermore, discrete-event simulation modelling method Event Graph and implementation of proposed model in Java and SimKit package was presented. In the paper, a project of simulation application was also described. The article encompasses description of simulation experiment used in efficiency analysis of Java EE application and example of results from such experiment.

Opis:

A new, critical edition of the 8th-century treatise De haeresibus et synodis (CPG 8020) by Patriarch Germanus I of Constantinople is in progress; it will provide new insights, especially into the large extent of sources that were copied or paraphrased. The article takes a close look at three chapters that could be considered as sources for different Christian heresies (Manichaeism, Montanism and Christological dissenters) in 8th-century Byzantium and some of the first new text- and sourcecritical findings. The accounts on Manichaeism and Montanism are based on older, lost sources and can therefore not be consulted as historical sources on these heresies in the Early Byzantine age. The account of the Ecumenical Councils involved in the Christological controversies attributes faith formulas to Councils that did not actually issue them and thus must be dismissed as a historical source on the course of these controversies as well. Nevertheless all three chapters, like the rest of the treatise, testify to the views of an Early Byzantine theologian on heresies and Church Councils and to how he reached his views. This scope for further study is deduced from the character of the text itself and thus especially appropriate.

The article is a review of the first volume of the critical edition of Norwid’s prose developed by Rościsław Skręt. The review focuses on the choice of works for editing and print, on establishing the status of source texts, determining the form of the texts for print, performing language modernization and associating the textual material with iconography. Examining the actions undertaken by the editor in all these dimensions, one can put forward a claim that his work tries to follow two contradictory editorial directions. The editor developed an innovative canon of Norwid’s prose and managed to avoid mistakes made by his predecessors. At the same time, one can observe that the editor restrained himself from departing too far from the solutions adopted by the previous editors. This latter tendency is particularly evident on the linguistic plane. Hence, one can describe the reviewed edition of the text as a half-way revolution.

Opis:

Celem pracy jest przedstawienie koncepcji edycji zachowanych w Polsce wykazów święceń duchowieństwa, która byłaby oparta na relacyjnej bazie danych. W pierwszej części artykułu przeanalizowano formularz rejestrów święceń i wypunktowano jego najważniejsze elementy składowe, głównie na podstawie rejestrów przedtrydenckich. W części drugiej omówiono dotychczasowy dorobek polskiej historiografii, jeżeli chodzi o opracowanie rejestrów i praktyki ich udostępniania, co dotyczy przeważnie źródeł z epoki potrydenckiej. W ostatniej części przedstawione zostały założenia i merytoryczne podstawy struktury bazodanowej edycji list święceń; opisano główne tabele tworzące bazę oraz relacje między nimi.
The aim of the study is to present the concept of edition, based on a relational database, of ordination lists of the clergy preserved in Poland. In the first part of the article the form of ordination lists is analyzed and its main components are described, relying mainly on lists from the pre-Tridentine era. The second part examine the present state of Polish historiography when it comes to the elaboration of registers of ordination and practice of making them available, which applies mostly to post-Tridentine sources. The final section presents the assumptions and substantive basis for the structure of the edition of ordination lists based on database; it describes the main tables making up the database and the relationships between them.

The article is devoted to the influence of the Louvain edition of the Vulgate on the workshop of Jakub Wujek, one of the most famous sixteenth-century translators of the Bible. This relationship is shown based on the example of the pericope concerning the promise of the primacy of St. Peter from Matthew 16:13‒20. Until now, studies of the method of the Jesuit from Wągrowiec have availed themselves at random of various editions of the Vulgate (different from those used by the translator, including even modern translations), leading to erroneous conclusions about his workshop. The article comprises the exact editions on which Wujek based his work. This method enabled the discovery that the marginal notes added to the text by the translator were not compiled by him, but transcribed from the Louvain edition of the Vulgate.

The international research on letters and the epistolary culture is constantly growing, but there are still many unchartered territories. This also applies to the letters of the German author Georg Büchner. For considering to which extend these letters contain conventional or innovative/critical contents, it is important to take into consideration the contents as well as the form of the letter. Two examples will be given: (1) Descriptions of landscapes are highly conventional in (travel-) letters of the 18th/19th century, so here the significance of idyllic landscapes and sublime mountains in literature, arts, and culture is described in order to highlight the hidden political as well as individual message of his letter to his fiancé. (2) Even more conventional is the rhetoric of letter writing in the 19th century. It is therefore necessary to consider the information which is given by the choice of paper and ink and by the topology of the letters, i.e. the distribution of text and ‘empty rooms’ on the paper. We find the letters conventional to a high degree but there are also breaches of the conventions in both fields which shed some new light on the epistolography of a political author.

The paper discusses some aspects of possibilities and dangers that new digital technologies bring in the camp of transmission of texts, especially the literary ones, and their scholar edition. While the new trends and achieve- ments are still under discussion, a glance towards the similar situation of some 500 years ago, when printing press was introduced to replace, step by step, a manuscript communication, could be useful to understand what we experience and to foresee some ways these new technologies will probably undertake.

At the turn of the nineteenth century many European states began to publish multi-volume editions of sources illustrating the political history of these states in previous centuries (for example, the Prussian Politische Correspondenz Friedrich’s des Großen). The Russian Sbornik Imperatorskogo Russkogo Istoricheskogo Obshchestva published by the Imperial Russian Historical Society is still used by researchers. It seems worthwhile to focus on the Sbornik and to assess its value as a scholarly edition using the Prussian diplomatic correspondence, included in that edition as a test-case.

Ewangeliarz archangielski z 1092 roku jest jednym z najważniejszych źródeł w badaniach wschodniosłowiańskiej tradycji rękopiśmiennej. Był publikowany dwukrotnie: w 1912 (faksymile) i 1997 roku. Drugie wydanie (edycja tekstu) nie było wierne oryginałowi. Jej pierwsza trudno dostępna errata została opublikowana w roku 1998 (po japońsku), druga w 2012 (i 2013) roku. Niestety, w tych dwóch publikacjach nie zostały wymienione wszystkie niedokładności między edycją tekstu Ewangeliarza archangielskiego i jego oryginałem. Niniejszy artykuł zawiera tylko nieścisłości opuszczone w drugiej erracie z 2012 (i 2013) roku.
The Archangelsk Gospel from the year 1092 is one of the most important sources for research of the east Slavonic manuscript tradition. It was published twice: in the year 1912 (facsimile) and 1997. The second edition (with edited text) wasn’t faithful to its original. Its first errata, hardly accessible, was published in 1998 (in Japanese) and second in 2012 (and 2013).Unfortunately these two publications didn’t enumerate all discrepancies between the edition of Archangelsk Gospel in 1997 and its original. This article mentions only the inaccuracies that weren’t published at errata form 2012 (and 2013).

Since the first edition of this reference was published 25 years ago much has taken place in the polygraph field, progress which has continued in the decade since the last edition of the Terminology Reference. The transition from analog to digital polygraph is now complete, the polygraph profession has accomplished the shift from authority-based practices to those that are evidence-based, concepts and terms adopted by the polygraph field are substantially more mainstream, new credibility assessment technologies have appeared while others have disappeared, and much to the surprise of critics and detractors, predictions of the demise of the polygraph have proven to be premature. In this fourth edition of the Terminology Reference for the Science of Psychophysiological Detection of Deception we strived to capture these changes. We have updated the references, added new terms, removed others, and included images for some terms to help readers understand them better. We hope readers appreciate these updates. And finally, we sadly report the passing of our friend, colleague and contributor to previous editions of this work, Shirley Sturm in 2020. Shirley was one of the greats in the polygraph field. She was the first woman President of the American Polygraph Association, a teacher, a coveted mentor, and a fiercely independent thinker. We and the rest of the polygraph field will miss Shirley, her sense of humor, her passion for polygraph, her concern for her fellow practitioners, her commitment to the field. There was always only one Shirley Sturm and we were fortunate to have known her. Because of her lasting contribution to our shared field of endeavor we dedicate this edition of the Terminology Reference to Shirley Sturm.

This article is a critical edition of the Karaim Haggadah in the Troki or the North-West Karaim dialect based on an undated, probably 19th-century manuscript and a text published by Feliks/Pinahas Malecki in 1900, which was most likely based on a another, albeit very similar manuscript. The manuscript was selected as the basic text for the edition, because it is older. In addition, Malecki, a renowned Karaim scholar and spiritual leader, made a number of editorial adaptations in his publication. Occasionally, reference is made to Firkovičius’s (1999) modern edition. In some instances, we also noted the Crimean Karaim versions of the Haggadah, although a comparison with Crimean Karaim is not our goal. Since the Karaim Haggadah is mostly composed of biblical verses, all such verses have been identified and noted. At the same time, the non-biblical portions have also been presented. The introduction discusses the state of the art and all important issues relating to East European Karaim Haggadah whilst also referencing the Egyptian Karaite branch. The edition is composed of the transcribed text with footnotes, a Polish translation, a glossary and facsimiles.
Niniejszy artykuł jest krytycznym wydaniem hagady trockokaraimskiej lub północno-zachodnio-karaimskiej na podstawie niedatowanego rękopisu, przypuszczalnie 19-wiecznego, oraz wydania drukiem Feliksa/Pinahasa Maleckiego z 1900 r. Wydanie Maleckiego jest prawdopodobnie oparte na innym, lecz dość podobnym rękopisie. Za tekst główny przyjęto rękopis jako źródło starsze. Na domiar, Malecki jako słynny uczony karaimski i przywódca duchowny poczynił w tekście pewne adaptacje językowe. Artykuł odsyła niekiedy do współczesnego wydania Firkovičiusa (1999) oraz do wersji krymskokaraimskich, jakkolwiek porównanie tekstu hagady trockokaraimskiej z krymskokaraimską nie jest celem artykułu. Ponieważ hagada karaimska składa się głównie z cytatów biblijnych, wszystkie wersy biblijne utożsamiono i oznaczono. Oznaczono też wersy niebiblijne. We wstępie jest mowa o wszystkich podstawowych zagadnieniach dotyczących karaimskiej hagady wschodnioeuropejskiej z odniesieniami do egipskokaraimskiej. Wydanie składa się ze wstępu, transkrypcji, tłumaczenia polskiego, uwag w przypisach, słowniczka oraz faksymilów.

Opis:

Staropolskie metryki kościelne wymagają szerokich badań oraz edycji. Autor artykułu skupił się na Księgach ochrzczonych (Liber baptisatorum). W polskiej historiografii ogłoszono drukiem treść tego typu źródeł z szesnastu parafii. Stan badań jest daleko niewystarczający aby uzyskać szerszy obraz rejestracji metrykalnej w polskim Kościele. Artykuł dokonuje próby rekapitulacji dotychczasowych osiągnięć historiografii w zakresie rozwoju narzędzi badawczych wykorzystywanych w polskich edycjach Ksiąg ochrzczonych. Metody stosowane w tych edycjach są bardzo różnorodne i nie zawsze zgodne z potrzebami naukowymi. Analizy zawarte w artykule prowadzą do postawienia szeregu postulatów zarówno dotyczących zasad wydawania drukiem metryk chrztu, jak i zaspokojenia potrzeb badawczych związanych z badaniami nad stratyfikacją społeczną polskich parafii, dziejami i geografią Kościoła, demografią historyczną, czy nowożytną dyplomatyką.
Old Polish church registers require extensive research and editing. The author of the article focused on the baptismal registers (Liber baptisatorum). In Polish historiography, the content of this type of sources from sixteen parishes has already been published. The state of research is far from sufficient to get a broader picture of record registration in the Polish Church. The article attempts to recapitulate the achievements of historiography to date in the field of development of research tools used in the Polish editions of the baptismal registers. The methods used in these editions are very diverse and not always in line with scientific needs. The analyzes contained in the article lead to a number of postulates both regarding the principles of issuing records of baptism and meeting research needs related to research on the social stratification of Polish parishes, the history and geography of the Church, historical demography, and modern diplomats.

This paper is an edition of an article by Władysław Kotwicz (1872–1944) entitled Les voyelles longues dans les langues altaïques, which the author could not publish himself during wartime and did not live to publish after the War was over. Also, a brief archival description is provided and the history of the last four years of the text has been reconstructed, based mostly on Kotwicz’s correspondence.

Opis:

The aim of the article is to present an eminent Polish historian of medieval philosophy Marian Kurdziałek as the author of the critical edition of David of Dinant’s Quaternulorum fragmenta (1963). Owing to a very high standard of critical principles applied to the constitution of the critical text, this edition still provides a point of reference for the investigation of various aspects of the phenomenon of David of Dinant. The article examines arguments presented by M. Kurdziałek in favour of David’s authorship of the fragments. After he had proved that they all come from the same author, Kurdziałek referred to the presentation of David’s doctrine by Albert the Great that agreed with the famous metaphysical portion of the fragments and thus provided a basis for the iden- tification of the author. He then examined in detail various problems concerning Albert’s testimony and offered a critical discussion of the biographical data concerning David of Dinant. Another important Kurdziałek’s contribution were lexical comparisons of Aristotle’s Latin texts used by David with existing medieval translations. He argued that David’s version of Aristotle was his own free translation combined with intelligent interpretations. In the article I refer to the study of G. Vuillemin-Diem that fully confirms Kurdziałek’s conclusions.
Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie wybitnego polskiego historyka filozofii średniowiecznej jako autora edycji krytycznej Quaternulorum fragmenta Dawida z Dinant.(1963). Z uwagi na wysoki standard zasad krytyki tekstu, edycja ta do dziś stanowi punkt wyjścia dla badań nad różnymi aspektami fenomenu Dawida z Dinant. Artykuł omawia najpierw argumenty podane przez M. Kurdziałka za autorstwem Dawida. Po wykazaniu, że wszystkie fragmenty pochodzą od tego samego autora, Kurdziałek odniósł się do świadectwa Alberta Wielkiego zgodnego za słynnym tekstem metafizycznym zawartym w tych fragmentach i to stało się podstawą identyfikacji autora. Innym ważnym osiągnieciem Kurdziałka były porównawcze analizy leksykalne wykorzystanych przez Dawida tekstów Arystotelesa z funkcjonującymi przekładami średniowiecznymi, w wyniku których postawił tezę o samodzielnym tłumaczeniu przez Dawida tych tekstów, co potwierdziły późniejsze badania G. Vuillemin Diem.

Opis:

The fifteenth-century Latin manuscript presenting the proposal of Polish spelling formulated by Jakub Parkosz is an interesting challenge to the editors primarily because it introduces special characters that were not used later. The text of the treatise was presented and discussed in a book by Marian Kucała (available under open licence) which was used as the basis for an experimental electronic edition of the treatise in the form of an interactive PDF file, also available as a LuaLaTeX source. For transliteration, the electronic edition uses the existing Unicode letters with some additions from the private use area of the Medieval Unicode Font Initiative. This paper presents the rationale for the transliteration and discusses some possible alternative forms of electronic editions.

The article constitutes the first Polish edition of selected letters of Maria Casimire Sobieska to her daughter-in-law Hedwig Elisabeth Amalia von Pfalz-Neuburg, which survived in the Sobieski Archive in Olawa and are currently held in the National Historical Archives of Belarus in Minsk (fond 695, op. 1, no. 261). The princess, wife to Prince James Sobieski, is almost invisible in Polish historiography; a fact which finds its reflection in the Polish-language source materials. The modest selection of letters published herein seeks to redress this fault, if most inadequately. The selected letters - thirteen out of forty - cover the period of over twenty-five years, between the year 1691, in which the prince and princess married, to the year 1715. The situation of the Sobieski family, both in the Commonwealth and abroad, changed diametrically over that time, as did the European political scene; traces of those changes are found in the letters. They also throw an interesting light on Maria Casimire's relationship with her daughter-in-law, belying the theory about the queen's dislike of the princess, or even hostility towards her, put forward by 19th-century historians. They are also an interesting pendant to Maria Casimire's letters to her eldest son written over the same period of time; the first two volumes of those letters have been published by the Museum of King John III's Palace at Wilanów.

Artykuł opowiada losy powojennej edycji wierszy Krzysztofa Kamila Baczyńskiego zatytułowanej Śpiew z pożogi (1947). Książka przygotowana przez Stefanię Baczyńską i Kazimierza Wykę w swoim układzie całkowicie odbiegała od pozostawionej tuż przed wybuchem powstania autoryzowanej wersji Śpiewu z pożogi, który miał być pierwszym oficjalnym debiutem poetyckim Baczyńskiego. W artykule rozważany jest wpływ późniejszej całościowej edycji Utworów zebranych i na recepcję poezji Baczyńskiego, i na ustalenie w świadomości literackiej wizerunku poety.
The story of the post-war edition of Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński’s poems entitled Śpiew z pożogi [Song of Fire] (1947) is discussed. The book edited by Stefania Baczyńska and Kazimierz Wyka completely disregarded and differed from the authorial version of Śpiew z pożogi prepared before the outbreak of the Uprising, which was meant to be Baczyński’s official poetic debut. The impact of the post-war edition of Utwory zebrane [Collected works] on the reception of Baczyński’s poetry and the poet’s image in Polish literary culture is discussed.

In numerous collected source materials from the 1950s, it is necessary to distinguish texts created in the works of authors persecuted by the communist regime e.g. Catholic writers and those related to popular movement, from the authors deliberately abandoning official circu-lation e.g. supporters of the concept of total realism, embarrassing poetry and collage of various literary genres. Activities of the opposition in the second half of the 1950s resulted in the first attempts of culture liberalization. At that time literature has influenced film and theater opening up the way to the Prague Spring in the late 1960s.

W artykule zawarto edycję toruńskich artykułów wojskowych z lat 1607-1699, które mają charakter zarządzenia wewnętrznego i dotyczą działań żołnierzy w obrębie murów miasta. Źródło omówiono w kontekście badań nad dziejami wojskowości toruńskiej w okresie przedrozbiorowym. Zachowany przekaz źródłowy przechowywany w Archiwum Państwowym w Toruniu potwierdza dążenia władz miejskich do uregulowania kwestii związanych ze służbą żołnierzy w garnizonie miejskim oraz ukrócenia ich niezdyscyplinowania.
Der Artikel enthält eine Edition der Militärartikel von Toruń von 1607-1699, die als interne städtische Verordnung zu verstehen sind und Aktivitäten der Soldaten innerhalb der Stadtmauern betreffen. Die Quelle wurde im Rahmen der Forschungen zur Geschichte des Thorner Militärwesens in der Zeit vor den Teilungen besprochen. Die im Staatsarchiv in Toruń aufbewahrte Quelle bestätigt die Bemühungen der Stadtbehörden, die Fragen des Dienstes der Soldaten in der städtischen Garnison zu regeln und deren Undiszipliniertheit ein Ende zu setzen.
The article contains an edition of Toruń's military articles from the period 1607-1699, which are internal regulations and concern the activities of soldiers within the city walls. The source was discussed in the context of research on the history of Toruń's military in the pre-partition period. The preserved source materials kept at the State Archives in Toruń confirm the efforts of the municipal authorities to regulate the issues related to the service of soldiers in the municipal garrison and to curb their lack of discipline.

In 1613, the German linguist Wolfgang Ratke presented to the parliament assumptions, which later became the basis for the development of the system of teaching. Pioneering the views of the organizations concerned by the learning process. He drew attention to the need for education in accordance stages of human development, called for education in the national language. The foundations of teaching principles gradation of difficulty. His views were not initially accepted mino positive reviews J. Jung and K. Helwig, who expressed appreciation for the progressive thinking of Wolfgang Ratke. It took 400 years from the moment the first time the name was used teaching. The analysis of available sources indicates that contemporary educators did not pay the anniversary of interest.

This article presents the problems with establishing a foundation for the edition titled Civil War by S. Twardowski. Before World War II, Part One was a Cracow published text from 1660 parts two-four were in manuscript form. Due to the destruction of the manuscript, Jesuits currently published a censored edition which does not take into account Kalisz’s edition from 1681. The Kalisz edition has a few variants that are primarily found on pages 1-24 of the second part of this work. Their considerable scope proves that these pages were folded twice. There is also a variant in the title represented by a copy in the Library of Warsaw. The activities of the Jesuits show considerable consideration about the quality of the published volume Civil War and wanted to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the poet's death and establish a teaching program in their colleges.

Aleksander Mogilnicki (1875–1956) was a lawyer, academic scholar and social activist. Between 1924 and 1929 he was the president of Poland’s Supreme Court, dismissed after his conflict with the government during Sanation period. Mogilnicki’s memoirs, written after the Second World War, were unexpectedly published in 2008 by Mrs. Barbara Izdebska, granddaughter of the author. In spite of numerous editing errors, the memoirs can be a useful historical source. The memoirs contains the interesting information about Łódź in the end of the 19th century and during the Revolution of 1905–1907 in the Kingdom of Poland. The edition also contains a wide description of law-breaking by the government after the 1926 May Coup d’Etat. Mogilnicki’s opinion about Emil Stanisław Rappaport (1877–1965) is a great example of friendship which has turned into a hostilities.

The price of first editions of Schulz’s two collections of stories published in his lifetime is likely to vary depending on whether the original cover and especially the book jacket, which is a bibliophile’s rarity, are preserved. The book jacket of Cinnamon Shops has never been reproduced. Moreover, nobody has ever published the text that appeared on its flap. Probably not written by Schulz himself, it presents such features of his stories as the deformation of the described reality or the unusual plasticity of words. In their reviews written before the war, critics unanimously stated that Schulz was a product of self-promotion, which was characterized by excessive self-complacency and an element of a too intensive advertising campaign that was supposed to promote an unknown author. It appears, however, that the advertising campaign of Schulz’s debut was not at all vigorous, quite the contrary – the author himself paved the road to fame, overcoming the considerable opposition of critics.

Opis:

The article deals with an interesting discovery made by Władysław Nehring. It concerned eight sheets with a text printed in Polish. They were found in the binding of the box with antique prints from the book collection of the University Library in Wrocław. At first the discoverer thought that the notes must have come from an unknown prayer book from the first half of the 16th century – Hortulus animae. Nehring became famous owing to a brilliant study that, referring to the thesis presented in it, was entitled Pierwsza książka polska. Despite many doubts and remarks implied by the thorough analysis of Pierwsza książka polska the fact is indisputable that the importance of Bernacki's study is unquestionable. An undeniable advantage of the Hortulus monograph also consists in the unusually mature and precisely elaborated research method that is a blend of typographic, archival and philological methods. The method is difficult, it requires broad knowledge, inquisitiveness, the ability to draw conclusions, and also a lot of patience necessary to conduct a number of in-depth, and first of all laborious, studies.

Opis:

On November 2, 2018, an outstanding Polish medievalist Jerzy Lesław Wyrozumski died in Kraków; he was born on March 7, 1930 in Trembowla (now Ukraine). He graduated in 1955 with a degree in history at the Jagiellonian University. He wrote his master's thesis and doctoral dissertation under the supervision of Roman Grodecki. In 1981 he received the title of professor; he was dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and History in the years 1981–1987, and from 1987 to 1990 he was the prorector of the Jagiellonian University. He published over 600 scholarly books, articles and reviews.
