This paper is a critical edition of Jehoszafat Kapłanowski’s (a Trakai-born Karaimspeaking Odessan) two letters written in Hebrew script that were sent in 1868 to Lutsk. The study is augmented by a glossary and facsimile, as well as brief historical comments on some of the persons mentioned in the text.

The authors approach the topic of editing and publishing primary legal-historical sources from the perspective of Croatian legal history as an academic discipline. Based on the earlier texts by Jakov Stipišić and Ivan Filipović, the first part of the text discusses several possible approaches towards the editing and publishing of documents, showing that critical intellectual activity is required already when the initial scope and mode of selecting and preparing the sources is decided upon. As a consequence, editing and publishing priorities are more or less directly connected to the particular interests and general methodological presumptions shared by the archivists, librarians and (legal) historians of a given society. The second part of the text – based on the works of Stjepan Antoljak, Zrinka Nikolić-Jakus, Mladen Ančić and personal insight – is thus dedicated to the most significant or illustrative (either in a positive or a negative way) source-editing and publishing projects on what is today the territory of the Republic of Croatia, in as much as some of them were influenced not only by strictly scientific, but also by political or ideological reasons. Pre-modern as well as modern and recent legal acts and other historical sources, including those typical of popular oral culture, are taken into account here. Finally, the authors reflect on the possible future of great editing projects, fearing that digitalization is only an incomplete answer to the precarious status of humanities and (historic) social sciences.

W artykule porównano działanie dwóch platform „open source” wspomagających e-handel: Wordpressa z najpopularniejszą wtyczką – Woocommerce oraz Magento z serii Community Edition. Przedstawiono wady i zalety obu systemów. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań pomiaru szybkości ładowania stron przy użyciu narzędzi online jak np. Google PageSpeed Insights oraz analizie popularności systemów w serwisach społecznościowych i forach internetowych, wyciągnięte zostały wnioski, stwierdzające, która z platform jest lepszym wyborem.
This article compares two open source platforms supports e-commerce, such as: Wordpress with Woocommerce plugin and Magento Community Edition. The paper shows pros and cons of both systems. The main functionalities of them were tested and showed. Based on research - conducted measuring the speed of web page load by using online tools such as Google PageSpeed Insights and system popularity analysis based on social media and Internet forums, conclusion were made.

This paper discusses the history of the first critical edition of the Hildebrandslied. The sole extant version of the famous Old High German epic, preserved only in fragments, was copied on the first and the last page of a codex dated to the 8th/9th c. and written in Fulda. The first scholarly edition of the Hildebrandslied was published in 1812 by the Grimm brothers who were also the first to recognize the poem’s alliterative verse form.

The paper explains the methodology applied in the edition of historical legal sources of major importance for the 19th and 20th centuries Slovakia – the edition of the Provisional Judicial Rules (“PJR”) of the Judex-Curial Conference of 1861. At the Conference, legal scholars and politicians adopted a decision to abandon the previous twelve years of neoabsolutism and centralism introduced by the Austrian law, and opted for a renewal of the traditional Hungarian legal system with some changes introduced by the laws of March 1848 (the March Constitution of 1848). At the same time they retained some rules of Austrian origin and created some rules that were entirely new, particularly in the field of civil procedural law and inheritance law. While evaluating the legal nature of the PJR, the literature used to claim that they never became law because Parliament of 1861 was not created legally (representatives were not elected under the electoral law enacted as part of the March Constitution of 1848) and because the monarch, Francis Joseph I, had not yet been crowned (his coronation took place in 1867). Therefore the legislative process could not be successfully completed. The only solution that was reported to was the recognition of the exceptional situation which dominated in Hungary between 1861–1867 – it was the period between neoabsolutism and another provisorium, a period of “limited constitutionalism”. Under such conditions it was not possible to meet the formalities of official legislation process. Thus PJR could become binding only de facto – through the power of persuasion. However, after a corpus of case law began to consolidate during several years, it could be argued that the PJR was transformed from the actual source of judicial decision-making into customary law.

This paper examines the history and contemporary practice of the edition of privileges in the context of the term “source of law”. In all legal systems, the term “source of law” has a quality of normative power or of authority for the decision-making processes. In this sense, the research question decides about their property as sources of law. This raises the question of the content and function of privileges in the history of law. While the individual and special privilegia form a contrast to common law or general legislation as leges privatae, on the other hand, they are also part of the greater category of law and legislation in general. This accounts for their enormous instrumentality in the creation of legal systems. Privileges may extend to all matters of private and public law (economy, trade, invention, jurisdiction, constitution, rights of estates etc.). They have appeared as a mass phenomenon since the Middle Ages. The different characteristics of the sources in turn connote both problems and possibilities for their edition, both in the past and the present. Different forms and functions of their publication and edition can be distinguished for the Ancien Régime. Publications of privileges of estates often served political interests, the publication of private-law privileges, thus, served to protect individual legal positions and their probability in court. Today, the edition of privileges is determined by the research objectives in European legal history and, in the face of the mass phenomenon of this type of source, is hampered by the problem of criteria for their selection. Editions on the jurisdiction and economic development in the Old Reich have been published in Germany and Austria in recent years (1980, 1981). They attest to the traditional power of privileges and show the important meaning for the ordering and shaping of law up until the 19th century.

The article is a review of the first volume of the critical edition of Norwid’s prose developed by Rościsław Skręt. The review focuses on the choice of works for editing and print, on establishing the status of source texts, determining the form of the texts for print, performing language modernization and associating the textual material with iconography. Examining the actions undertaken by the editor in all these dimensions, one can put forward a claim that his work tries to follow two contradictory editorial directions. The editor developed an innovative canon of Norwid’s prose and managed to avoid mistakes made by his predecessors. At the same time, one can observe that the editor restrained himself from departing too far from the solutions adopted by the previous editors. This latter tendency is particularly evident on the linguistic plane. Hence, one can describe the reviewed edition of the text as a half-way revolution.

The plan of Kalisz by Andrzej Politalski is the oldest geometrically accurate depiction of the town. Compiled in 1785, it has survived to this day in a redrawing by Ottomar Wolle in 1878 at the scale of 1:3,000. The author discusses the process of developing the edition of Politalski's plan for the “Kalisz” volume of the Historic Towns Atlas (HTA) and compares it with editions in other volumes. The most recent (2021) volumes developed in three diferent centres were chosen as comparative material: Biecz volume (Kraków); Fordon, 2nd edition (Toruń); and Racibórz (Wrocław). Each volume adopts diferent editorial rules, although, in general, they conform to the overarching principles of redrawing a map at the scale of 1:2,500. The diefrences touch on virtually all aspects (source material, scope of content, non-cartographic elements), but they are united by the aforementioned common scale and purpose. Developing the edition of Politalski's plan was preceded by genetic analysis and the identification of filiation of its remaining copies. The original (1785) has not survived, nor has the first redrawing (1800). We only have a redrawing by Wolle (1878), which was the basis for the development of the plan for the HTA. In addition to this, we also have several other less significant versions. Politalski's plan was georeferenced, its content was vectorised, and cartographical representation was created. The result has been put together with selected editions elaborated to date. A distinctive feature of the work on the “Kalisz” volume is the use of a redrawing of the original as a source plan, as it is - in fact - its historical edition. The author also draws attention to the issues of standardisation of data models and, consequently, of legends between particular volumes.

The article concerns Zofia Lipska from Potocki family – a daughter of Polish poet Wacław Potocki. It is the first edition of funeral speech given at the funeral of Zofia Lipska by Aleksander Minor. The manuscript of the speech is a part of Minor’s Silva rerum and it has not been published yet although it constitutes an important supplementation to the biography of Potocki family. The speech is prefaced by an analysis of the text, as well as by the biography of Zofia Lipska and presentation of her image depicted in the poems of her father.

Opis:
The article is concerned with the edition of Cyprian Norwid's Promethidion prepared by Stefan Sawicki. The recognized theoretician, historian and interpreter of literature appears here both as the author of a comprehensive monograph of Promethidion and as an experienced editor embracing the central categories of the poet's viewpoint and artistry, and, on the other hand, with a linguistic precision analyzing particular expressions and tropes. His discerning analysis, careful textological edition of the text and comprehensive interpretation of the poem serve each other. The edition, albeit designed for a broad group of readers, meets the requirements of a critical edition, gives a lot of precisely justified amendments, the necessary explanations, and a list of variants of the text. In the sphere of meanings and structures the poem glitters with variety and shows many aspects of the problems. “Concepts-keys” that are central to the poem are the concept of art (“with no limits”) whose definition is in many ways completed by the concepts of beauty, love, work, good and truth, “constantly approached as if from the side of the conscience”. They are made manifest in utterances by many subjects that have differentiated styles and genres, which is done by means of peculiar techniques (amplifications, approximations, speaking by negation assuming the form of a dialogue, the “counterpoint” technique, evoking the value “by negating anti-values”). However, the whole forms a cohesive “Norwidian collage”, and the image of a “superior speaking subject” appearing as an “image of a prophet of the contemporary Church” has a clear author's stamp. Hence, the message of the poem is perceived “as the voice of a poet: a real one, convinced that what he wants to convey to the society is just”

Artykuł dotyczy teoretycznych i praktycznych propozycji krytyki genetycznej oraz jej skomplikowanej relacji z edytorstwem naukowym. Autor omawia korzyści wynikające z zastosowań tej metody czytania rękopisów, związane z nią trudności oraz możliwości wykorzystania jej efektów w edytorstwie cyfrowym. Przedstawia także przykłady istniejących cyfrowych edycji genetycznych, dodając praktyczne uwagi dotyczące aspektów technicznych – w tym języka do kodowania rękopisów i cyfrowej rekonstrukcji procesu tekstotwórczego – związanych z taką prezentacją tekstu w środowisku elektronicznym.
The paper is about the theoretical and practical proposals of genetic criticism and its complicated relations with academic editing. The author discusses the benefits from applying that method of reading manuscripts, the related difficulties and possibilities of using its effects in digital editing. Examples of existing digital genetic editions are presented, with practical tips regarding the technical aspects – including the language used for encoding manuscripts and digital reconstruction of the text-producing process – related to such a presentation of a text in a digital environment.

During the period of twenty years between the wars in Poland there was a need for books in Latin, especially school books such as student books, obligatory readings and so called cribs. These books were published by many companies operating in different parts of Poland and they were usually grouped in publishing series : one of these series was “KsiąŜnica Tłumaczeń Łacińskich” published in Łódź by a family company of the Mittlers between 1928 and 1932. 44 volumes published as a part of this series contained translations and preparatory materials for Latin texts which belonged to the list of obligatory reading and were adjusted to grammar-translation method which was widely used at that time.
