In the Archaeology Institute of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń there is a room fitted with a interesting way. The cabinet of relics is a unique scientific idea of presenting objects that were acquired during excavations. In the cabinet there are numerous gathered relics that were found in the Polish land. The oldest are dated to 100 000years. The objects were made of different materials, including wood, metal, or antlers, bones and clay.

W artykule przedstawiono historię badań polarnych prowadzonych w latach 1968-2015 przez pracowników Katedry Meteorologii i Klimatologii Uniwersytetu Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu. Omówiono i scharakteryzowano problematykę badawczą dominującą w opublikowanych w Polsce i za granicą artykułach i monografiach. Wskazano na główne obszary badawcze położone w Arktyce i Antarktyce dla których powstało najwięcej opracowań z zakresu meteorologii i klimatologii. Szczegółowo przedstawiono historię badań terenowych oraz ich rezultaty.
The article presents the history of polar research conducted from 1968 to 2015 by researchers at the Department of Meteorology and Climatology at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. It discusses and characterises the predominant research issues appearing in articles and monographs published in Poland and abroad. The article also indicates the main study areas located in the Arctic and Antarctic which have been the subject of the largest number of papers in the field of meteorology and climatology. In addition, there is a detailed outline of the history of field research and its results. The researchers at the Department of Meteorology and Climatology at NCU participated in a total of 34 polar expeditions during this period, including to Iceland (1), Spitsbergen (27) and Antarctica (6) (Tab. 1, Fig. 1). They have published 371 scholarly papers in the field of meteorology, climatology, hydrology and cryology (Tab. 2, Figs. 2-4), including three post-doctoral theses (habilitations) and five doctoral theses (Tab. 4) as well as being the supervisors of 49 Master’s (magister) theses. In the last 20 years they have taken part in 16 research projects, including two international ones (Tab. 3).

W artykule przedstawiono historię badań klimatu miejskiego w Toruniu zainicjowanych i prowadzonych przez Katedrę Meteorologii i Klimatologii UMK. Analizując ją wyróżniono dwa okresy intensywnych badań z ww. tematyki: 1981–1993 i od 2011 r. do chwili obecnej. W pierwszym okresie pomiary prowadzono w znacząco mniejszej liczbie punktów, a także w mniejszym zakresie niż w okresie drugim. Istotnie różny był także sprzęt pomiarowy, który w pierwszym okresie stanowiły termometry rtęciowe i samopisy, a w drugim automatyczne stacje meteorologiczne. Wyniki uzyskane z obydwu okresów, a do-kładnie z lat 1982 i 2012, potwierdziły istnienie miejskiej wyspy ciepła (MWC) oraz istotnych zmian w rozkładzie przestrzennym wilgotności powietrza. Różnice średnich rocznych wartości temperatury i wilgotności powietrza w obydwu badanych okresach między centrum miasta a stacją referencyjną wyniosły odpowiednio ok. 1°C i 7%. Brak zmian intensywności MWC i rozkładu przestrzennego wilgotności powietrza między badanymi latami wytłumaczyć można brakiem istotnych zmian w zabudowie starówki toruńskiej.
The article presents the history of research into the urban climate of Toruń initiated and conducted by the Department of Meteorology and Climatology of Nicolaus Copernicus University. Two periods of intensive research on the subject were identified: 1981–1993 and 2011–present. In the first period, measurements were taken at a significantly smaller number of points and covered a narrower scope than in the second period. The measuring equipment was also significantly different, with mercury thermometers and drum recorders (thermohygrographs) being used in the first period, and automatic meteorological stations in the second. Results from both periods, specifically from 1982 and 2012, confirmed the existence of an urban heat island (UHI) and significant differences in the spatial distribution of air humidity. In both analysed periods, differences in mean annual temperature and air humidity between the city centre and the reference station were about 1°C and 7%, respectively. The lack of changes in UHI intensity and spatial distribution of air humidity between the analysed years can be explained by the lack of significant changes in the development of Toruń’s Old Town.

The statutory mission of a university, in addition to the creation of scientific knowledge and education, lies in the cooperation with the economic sector through the transfer of knowledge and technology. The effectiveness of this process directly affects the affluence of any given State’s economy. Owing to the new amendments to the Act on Higher Education, many barriers that hinder commercialisation of knowledge in Poland have been brought down. Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń sets an excellent example in this respect having established a special purpose entity, which has already managed to set up thirteen spin-off companies in just 18 months.
Ustawowa misja uczelni, oprócz tworzenia wiedzy naukowej i kształcenia, obejmuje również współpracę z sektorem gospodarczym poprzez transfer wiedzy i technologii. Efektywność tego procesu bezpośrednio wpływa na zasobność danej gospodarki narodowej. Dzięki ostatnim nowelizacjom ustawy Prawo o szkolnictwie wyższym udało się znieść wiele barier utrudniających komercjalizację wiedzy. Dobrym przykładem zmian w tym zakresie jest Uniwersytet Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu, który po półtorej roku działalności swojej spółki celowej, posiada już trzynaście spółek typu spin-off.

Najnowsza książka Mariana Grabowskiego może zostać zakwalifikowana do tzw. filozofii biblijnej, czyli nurtu filozoficznego odczytywania tekstu biblijnego i interpretowania jego znaczenia przy użyciu kategorii filozoficznych. Jednocześnie publikacja ta podejmuje także problematykę z zakresu filozofii przyrody z racji wyraźnie obecnych w niej prób filozoficznego uchwycenia i przedstawienia istoty rzeczywistości materialnej. Autor pracy w ten właśnie sposób zmierzył się z początkowym fragmentem biblijnej Księgi Rodzaju (Rdz 1,1–10), chcąc ustalić i ukazać głębię znaczenia tego tekstu, jego filozoficzne konotacje, a także dokonać jego reinterpretacji w świetle kategorii filozoficznych wyodrębnionych na gruncie matematyczno-fizykalnego obrazu świata.
The latest book by Marian Grabowski may be classified as biblical philosophy, i.e. the philosophical current of reading the biblical text and interpreting its meaning using philosophical categories. At the same time, this publication also deals with the issues of the philosophy of nature due to the clearly present attempts at philosophical grasping and presentation of the essence of material reality. This is how the author of the work dealt with the initial fragment of the biblical Book of Genesis (Genesis 1: 1-10), wanting to establish and show the depth of the meaning of this text, its philosophical connotations, and to reinterpret it in the light of philosophical categories distinguished on the basis of mathematics and physical image of the world.

Opis:
The pluralisation and democratisation of the university (level) education system in Poland is the reason whereby university education for a lot of youth coming from families of lower social status and lower cultural capital has become freely available. At the same time, it means that universities are now becoming different, not only in case of the quality of teaching or a division of departments and faculties, but also in case of social and environmental origin of students. As it occurs, this fact determines the way of studying, social activity or economic behaviour, which nowadays are particularly underestimated dimensions of social inequalities having noticeable consequences after the graduation. Results of the research conducted in the university presented in the article prove that students coming from different environments (a village versus a city) are different from each other not only in the matter of social status or a financial situation but, first of all, in the matter of activity at studies' duration and importance given to academic education. The effects of such differences can be following: a different location in a social structure and a job market and in a consequence - reproduction or deepening of these currently existing inequalities.
Pluralizacja i demokratyzacja szkolnictwa wyższego w Polsce sprawiła, że znacznie zwiększyła się dostępność edukacji dla młodzieży wywodzącej się z rodzin o niższym statusie społecznym i niższym poziomie kapitału kulturowego. Tym samym wyższe uczelnie coraz bardziej różnicuje nie tylko jakość kształcenia czy podział na wydziały i kierunki studiów, ale również pochodzenie społeczne i środowiskowe ich studentów. Jak się okazuje, to ono w znacznym stopniu determinuje styl studiowania, społeczną aktywność czy zachowania ekonomiczne, które współcześnie stanowią szczególnie niedoceniane wymiary nierówności społecznych mające swoje wyraźne konsekwencje po ukończeniu studiów. Prezentowane w artykule wyniki badań przeprowadzonych na uniwersytecie pokazują, że studenci pochodzących z różnych środowisk (wieś, miasto) różnią się nie tylko statusem społecznym i sytuacją materialną, ale przede wszystkim aktywnością w trakcie studiów i znaczeniem nadawanym akademickiej edukacji. Efektem tego zróżnicowania mogą zaś być: odmienne usytuowanie w społecznej strukturze i na rynku pracy, a w konsekwencji reprodukcja lub pogłębienie obecnych już nierówności.

He was a very promising researcher1 at the Institute of Geography of Nicolaus Copernicus University (NCU) in Toruń, with diverse research interests focussing particularly on remote sensing and its practical applications. He passed away aged 45, at the threshold of his research and organisational career, in the most creative period in life, and with advanced work on his postdoctoral dissertation. This happened during a scientifi c expedition to Iceland, whose main research theme was the monitoring of changes of Iceland’s natural surface using ERS–1 and ERS–2 satellite images and other remote sensing systems.

Power is a fundamental category in the field of political and security sciences. It occupies a key position in practically every theory of international relations. Some of the categories that describe power can be defined using similar terms, although there are also those that define similar categories in a completely different manner. This is what happens when you find similar definitions for terms such as ‘power, ‘strength’, ‘authority’, or ‘influence’. Identifying the factors that make up a state’s power is no less problematic. Even if some elements of power seem to be unchanged (military or economic factors) and important for all currents of the theory of international relations, the differences in their rank may be significant and crucial for understanding the differences between particular theoretical approaches. The aim of the article is to show both the fixed elements of individual theories (primarily realistic and liberal, but also radicalism and postmodernism) as well as the differences in defining the power of their individual representatives.

This paper studies the concept of “hybrid regimes”, not so much in defining and authenticating their functionality but, above all, to exhibit them as so-called “partial” constitutional concepts. Articulating the tensions, divergences, and antagonisms characteristic of these regimes, as well as highlighting the blurring boundaries between democratic systems and authoritarianism “with adjectives”, emphasizes the importance of the examined issues. The author introduces an alternative conceptualization and typology of hybrid regimes and a configurational approach. Instead of placing political regimes on a linear continuum – from authoritarianism to democracy – multidimensional solutions facilitating an alternative typology of the analyzed concepts have been exposed. The configuration approach, however, provides an analytically valuable way to evaluate and integrate hybrid regimes with other classification schemes. Such innovations, therefore, help alleviate conceptual confusion in the literature. Moreover, deepening the understanding of the concept of hybrid regimes, along with emphasizing its conceptual ambiguities and complexity – especially concerning the “politically correct” discourse on the current problems of fragile and politically unstable states – is necessary to better understand the complex and confusing nature of modern regimes of power frequently operating in the most politically unstable regions of the contemporary world.

The year 2012 marked the 400th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Netherlands and Türkiye. The history of Dutch-Turkish relations presented in the work is a synthetic description of the mutual relations between the two countries. In the political relations between the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands and Türkiye, in addition to the commercial reasons characteristic to the Republic, it was the existence of a common enemy that united the countries, although over the course of four centuries, it was the commercial relations that dominated over the political ones. In the historical outline presented, it can be seen that the activities of the two countries proceeded quite smoothly, however, the recent history may bring a greater number of conflicts related to migration.

The American model of democracy is identified with liberal democracy, which in the West is usually considered a democracy of the highest quality standards. The illiberal authorities in Poland criticize this model of democracy, introducing a number of legal changes which, in their opinion, are to lead to an improvement in the quality of democracy. American researchers quite unequivocally criticize the changes, especially those taking place in the area of independence of the judiciary, freedom of the media and women’s rights. They also criticize the attitude of the Polish authorities towards minorities, including LGBTQ+ communities. Criticism also appeared from the American authorities, although in this case we were dealing with a large variation in the approach of individual administrations. The aim of the article is to analyze and evaluate the American perspective on the quality of democracy in Poland. During the research, scientists and experts from research institutions in Washington, D.C. and New York were interviewed.

Thus far, four – structurally very different – etymologies have been suggested for the Turkic word for ‘garlic’. This author adduces derivatives found in Altai, one of the Siberian Turkic languages, that provide crucial support for one of them.
Jak dotąd zaproponowano cztery – strukturalnie bardzo odmienne – etymologie tureckiego słowa oznaczającego ‘czosnek’. Autor przytacza derywaty występujące w języku ałtajskim, jednym z języków turkijskich Syberii, które stanowią istotny argument na rzecz jednej z hipotez.

The author addresses the properties of the special category of expressions established by Danielewiczowa (2012) and labeled by her “attestation adverbials”. A possible example of the category: He is definitely crazy. The question which the author tries to answer reads: how do expressions of that category fare in bipolar questions?His answer is as follows. On the one hand, primarily, such questions are deviant, on a par with questions embracing hypotheticals like probably, cf. * Has A probably murdered B? / * Is he definitely crazy?.On the other hand, secondarily, such questions are acceptable as metonymical utterances where a demand to receive an objective assertion is combined with a presupposition that someone had claimed not only that ‘such is the case [he is crazy]’, but also (by using the adverbial definitely), that her evaluation was unquestionable, cf. Is he, as Smith said, definitely crazy?.
Autor se zabývá zvláštní třídou výrazů, která byla zjíštěná Danielevičovou (2012) jakožto „attestation adverbials”. Možný příklad této třídy: On je určitě blbec. Autor siklade otázku: jak se chovají takové výrazy v bipolárných otázkách? Výrok je sledující. Za a, primárně, takové otázky jsou nenormativní, stejně jako věty s hypotetickými výrazy typu zřejmě, sr. * Zdali A zřejmě zavrażdil B? / * Zdali on je určitě blbec?. Za b, sekundárně, takové otázky jsou oprávněny jako metonymické útvary spojující objektivní určení s narážkou, że se někdo vyjádřil k příslušné alternativě nejen objevují, že ‘je tomu takto [on je blbec]’, nýbrž taky (pomoci adverbiála určitě), že její zhodnocení je nesporné, sr. Zdali on je, jako řekl Honda, určitě blbec?.

Artykuł jest komentarzem do wykładu Andrzej Bogusławskiego wygłoszonego 9 października 2021 r., a poświęconego kłamstwu i wypowiedziom kłamliwym. W pracy przypomniane zostały także podstawowe kontrowersje dotyczące pojęcia ‘kłamstwa’ dyskutowane w filozoficznej i lingwistycznej literaturze przedmiotu. Autorka twierdzi, że obserwacja możliwych w danym języku układów słownych pozwala rozstrzygnąć wątpliwe kwestie. Według niej podstawowym wykładnikiem kłamstwa jest jednostka [ktośi] okłamał [kogośj]. W treści tego predykatu zawarte są dwa pojęcia ‘mówienia’ scharakteryzowane i opisane wcześniej przez A. Bogusławskiego (2021). Predykat ten przesądza także o wiedzy metanadawcy i kłamcy co do faktycznej wartości logicznej treści propozycjonalnej, o którą chodzi. Ponadto wyraża negatywną ocenę działania kłamcy oraz chęć wprowadzenia go w błąd. W artykule pokazane są różnice między dwoma konkurującymi wykładnikami ‘kłamstwa’ - [ktośi] okłamał [kogośj]  oraz [ktośi] skłamał [komuśj].
The article is a commentary on Andrzej Bogusławski's lecture given on 9th October 2021. It was devoted to lies and false statements. The paper recalls also the basic philosophical and linguistic  controversies regarding the concept of 'lying'. The author claims that the observation of possible word arrangements in a natural language allows to resolve issues stated by philosophers and linguists. According to her, the basic exponent of a lie is the polish predicate [ktośi] okłamał [kogośj]. The content of this predicate includes two notions of 'speaking' characterized and described earlier by A. Bogusławski (2021). This predicate determines the knowledge of the actual speaker and the liar as to the logical value of the proposition in question. In addition, it expresses a negative assessment of the liar's actions and his desire to mislead his hearer. In its last part the article shows the differences between two competing exponents of 'lie' in Polish - [ktośi] okłamał [kogośj] i [ktośi] skłamał [komuśj].

Artykuł sytuuje się w jednym z nurtów semantyki strukturalistycznej, a dotyczy trzech polskich pojęć ukrywających się za formami względnie, stosunkowo i relatywnie. Kształty względnie i relatywnie reprezentują różne jednostki leksykalne, należące do różnych poziomów języka, formie stosunkowo odpowiada jedno znaczenie. Choć leksemy stanowiące przedmiot analizy mają zakończenie -e / -o, tzn. takie, jak typowe przysłówki, nie należą one do języka przedmiotowego, pełnią funkcje metapredykatywne, charakterystyczne dla pewnych klas tzw. wyrazów funkcyjnych. Ma to bezpośredni związek m.in. z własnościami przymiotników względny, stosunkowy i relatywny, z którymi pozostają w wyraźnych zależnościach formalnych i semantycznych. Mimo podobieństw znaczeniowych metapredykaty względnie, stosunkowo i relatywnie nie są, wbrew niektórym opisom leksykograficznym, synonimami. W artykule podjęta została próba wykazania różnic między nimi i, co za tym idzie, przybliżenia ich znaczeń.
This article situates itself within a trend of structuralist semantics and discusses the Polish notions associated with the forms względnie, stosunkowo, and relatywnie. The expressions względnie and relatywnie represent various lexical units; however the form stosunkowo corresponds to only one concept. Although these units have endings typical of adverbs (-e /-o), they do not belong to the object level of the language, but instead they perform meta predicative or metatextual functions, characteristic of some so-called function words. This is directly related to the properties of the adjectives względny, stosunkowy, and relatywny, with which they remain in clear formal and semantic relations. Despite some similarities in meaning, the meta-predicates względnie, stosunkowo, and relatywnie are not synonyms, contrary to their lexicographic descriptions. This article aims to show the differences between them, and thus, elucidate their meanings.

Wolfgang Schweickard, a well-known expert in historical Romance linguistics, launched a series Orientalia in 2023. Three fascicles were published between March and August 2023. This author has tried to examine incorrect izafet constructions (such as At Meydan ‘a historical square in Constantinople’, lit. ‘horse square, hippodrome’ instead of the original At Meydanı) excerpted from Italian sources and published in the Orientalia in order to find out how old the phenomenon is and how it came into being. Answers to the two questions are given in the final section.

Artykuł zatytułowany Profetyczny charakter filozofii nietzscheańskiej jest efektem studiowania przez autorkę tematu zjawisk społecznych, które nasiliły się na przestrzeni ostatnich dziesięcioleci. Celem rozważań zawartych w tekście jest ukazanie aktualności myśli Friedricha Nietzschego w okresie postmodernizmu oraz okresu, który po nim następuje. Opisana perspektywa odnosi się przede wszystkim do upadku woli jednostek w obliczu bezprecedensowych przemian społecznych. Tekst będzie czerpać z dorobku intelektualnego m.in. Jacques’a Derridy, Michela Foucaulta czy Jeana-François Lyotarda. Teza jest weryfikowana analogiami obecnymi we współczesnej myśli politycznej. Analiza elementów aksjologicznych zawartych w dziełach. Nietzschego oraz ich wpływu na współczesne społeczeństwo została przeprowadzona przy użyciu metody monograficznej oraz obserwacyjnej. Uzyskane konkluzje mają na celu refleksję na temat współczesności oraz negatywnych zjawisk zaistniałych w społeczeństwie w XX oraz XXI wieku.
The article is the result of the author’s studies on social phenomena that have intensified over the past decades. The purpose of the considerations contained in the text is to show the actuality of the thought of F. Nietzsche in the period of postmodernism and the period that follows it. The described perspective refers primarily to the collapse of the will of individuals in the face of unprecedented social transformations. The text will draw on the intellectual output of J. Derrida, M. Foucault, or J.F. Lyotard, among others. The thesis is verified by analogies present in modern political thought. The analysis of the axiological elements contained in the works of F. Nietzsche and their impact on modern society was carried out using a monographic and observational method. The conclusions obtained are intended to reflect on modernity and the negative phenomena that have occurred in society of the 20th and 21st centuries.

The article consists of two parts. In the first part, the citation theory outlined by J. Wajszczuk (2005) is recalled. The second part contains an analysis of three Polish verbs referring to abusive quoting: przekręcić [coś] ‘misrepresent [something]’, przeinaczyć [coś] ‘twist [something]’ i wypaczyć [coś] ‘distort [something]’. The first of the lexemes has the broadest reference. It refers to both citation and assertory speaking. The verb wypaczyć ‘to distort [something]’ refers to a situation of significant interference in someone else’s text in conjunction with a current speaker’s’ negative evaluation. The verb przeinaczyć [coś] ‘to twist [something]’ allows for the lessening of the speaker’s guilt, who infidelly updates someone else’s statement. The verbs of the tainted message describe the logical completion of faithful quotation. They emphasize the fact that a violation of the unwritten imperative to treat someone else’s speech may be more or less harmful.
Artykuł składa się z dwóch części. W pierwszej części przypomniana została teoria cytowania zarysowana przez J. Wajszczuk (2005). Druga część pracy zawiera analizę trzech polskich czasowników mówiących o nadużyciach w cytowaniu. Będą to: przekręcić [coś], przeinaczyć [coś] i wypaczyć [coś]. Najszersze odniesienie ma pierwszy z leksemów. Można go orzec zarówno o mówieniu cytacyjnym, jak i asertorycznym. Czasownik wypaczyć [coś] dotyczy sytuacji znacznej ingerencji w czyjś tekst w połączeniu z negatywną oceną metanadwcy. Przeinaczyć [coś] dopuszcza umniejszenie winy mówiącego. Analizowane czasowniki uwypuklają fakt, że naruszenie niepisanych zasad traktowania cudzych wypowiedzi może być większe lub mniejsze, a także bardziej lub mniej szkodliwe z punktu widzenia metanadawcy.

Thirty years after the onset of democratisation in Central and Eastern Europe, the first generations of post-communist societies have been raised, educated and become professionally active. Objectively, they are a specific group of people whose primary and secondary socialisation occurred during a period that differed profoundly from that of their parents and older acquaintances. The article presents the results of a qualitative study conducted among Polish and Ukrainian students to diagnose their subjective generational self-identifications. The aim of the study was to determine whether and how young people in both countries perceive themselves and their social environment, and whether they identify themselves in terms of a unique generation.

The historical fate of one of the most critical regions, Southwestern Georgia, is indeed remarkable. This powerful centre of Georgian civilisation, with its historical plight, was forcibly torn off a mother’s bosom and became a part of another state. However, its inhabitants managed to preserve the love and respect for their native language. As a result of the war between Russia and Turkey (1877–1878), the region was reunited with its native land. Still, this time the Caucasian administration of the Russian Empire began to impede its development and tried to set this side against the rest of Georgia. According to Russian officials, it was to become an essential military outpost of Russian expansion in the Middle East and a springboard for the far-reaching plans of the empire. Foreigners were also interested in this region of Georgia. They repeatedly visited this area and left us remarkable materials about the political, social, economic, cultural and educational life of South-West Georgia of that time (i.e., 19th centuries).

The article presents the results of academic research focusing on the origins and development of anti-aircraft artillery in the United States which was to guarantee the safety of American soldiers fighting in the First and Second World Wars. The findings of this study confirm that, in the early days, knowledge of the phenomena occurring in the air dimension of armed struggle was primarily empirical. As early as 1916, Alexander Graham Bell warned of the possibility of air raids on the United States. Over the next 25 years, experts conducted research into air defence, which became crucial in its subsequent development. The basis for the development of air defence was the emergence of a new weapon at the end of the First World War, i.e., anti-aircraft artillery. Basing on the experience of the United States from the First World War in the interwar period, air defence began to be seen in terms of a system whose main task was to detect and destroy enemy aviation, attacking troops, civilians and facilities at the rear of the front. Considering the outlined problem scenario and the subject of the research, it was assumed that the aim of the article will be to discuss the stages of the development of air defence in the United States in the years 1917–1945 and the experience of US anti-aircraft artillery gained on the fronts of the First and Second World Wars.

Polskie ale pojawia się w dwóch różnych typach kontekstów z dwoma różnymi funkcjami: 1. jako predykat z dwoma argumentami, +/- odpowiednik angielskiego but oraz 2. jako predykat z jednym argumentem, +/- odpowiednik angielskiego wtrącenia ‘what a ...!’. Fakt, że mutatis mutandis te same dwie funkcje pełni macedońskie ама, wskazuje na to, że mamy tu do czynienia w rozwojem właściwym dla języków słowiańskich.
Polish ale appears in two different contexts with two different functions: 1. as predicate with two arguments, +/- the equivalent of the English but and 2. as predicate with one argument, +/- the equivalent of the English interjection ‘what a...!’. The fact that mutatis mutandis the same two functions has Macedonian ама suggests that we are dealing here with a specific Slavic development.

Coraz bardziej rozległa i zarazem „zagęszczona” jest sfera zjawisk związana z naruszaniem prawa w działaniach politycznych, ignorowaniem ograniczeń i zakazów prawnych, nadużywaniem prawa w walce politycznej i ideologicznej oraz w procesach rządzenia. Tym drastycznym zaprzeczeniom praworządności zwykle towarzyszy ostentacyjne bezprawie, „łamanie prawa polityką”, mniej lub bardziej zręczna, finezyjna lub żenująco niewyrafinowana dezinterpretacja lub (kiedy to wygodne) nadinterpretacja norm prawnych. W artykule przedstawiono zarys modelu pewnej nowej jakości, która zasługuje na miano specjalne – makiawelizmu prawnego. Jest to zaledwie szkic wstępny schematu pojęciowo-interpretacyjnego, zasługujący jednak – jak sądzi autor – na krytyczną weryfikację i ewentualne uściślenia.
More and more extensive, and at the same time more “dense” is becoming the sphere of phenomena related to the infringement of the law in political activities, to ignoring legal limitations and prohibitions, abusing the law in political and ideological competition and in governing processes. Such drastic negations of the rule of law are usually accompanied by demonstrative lawlessness, “breaking the law with politics”, more or less cunning, sophisticated, or pathetically non-sophisticated misinterpretation or (when it is convenient) overinterpretation of legal norms. The article presents an outline of a model of some new quality, which deserves a special label – the legal Machiavellianism. It is just a draft of a conceptual-interpretative scheme, however deserving – as the author claims – a critical verification and possible clarifications.

The present analysis concerns military requisitions used during the second Polish national uprising in chronological order. The institution of military requisitions was usually caused by shortages in supplying the army with items essential, from its point of view, for carrying out military operations (foodstuffs, means of transport, equipment for soldiers). These shortages were compensated by legal or illegal seizures of private property. The civil and military authorities, if necessary, decided on the compulsory supply of the indicated products and items for the population by means of generally binding regulations. The author bases his discussion on materials from the legislative process and selected archival sources concerning the implementation of the requisitioning provisions of the insurgent parliament.

Autorka komentuje istniejące w polskim językoznawstwie opisy klasy partykuł spajających. Za podstawowe trzy kryteria wyróżniania tej klasy uznaje ich dozdaniowość, zależność od przedtekstu oraz zmienność pozycyjną. Zauważa, że partykuły spajające preferują pozycję w pobliżu (przed, po, a nawet wewnątrz) części tematycznej i często towarzyszy im silny przycisk prozodyczny na wyrażeniu tematycznym. Preferują one również dłuższe, zdaniowe konteksty. Zaproponowana w tym tekście interpretacja partykuł spajających sprowadza się do uznania ich za komentarze dotematyczne, wiążące to, co jest mówione o nowym obiekcie z tym, co zostało wcześniej powiedziane o czymś innym. Ponieważ tego typu wiązanie tematyczne jest interpretacyjnie bardziej wymagające niż wiązanie rematyczne (odbywające się wszak w ramach jednego nadrzędnego tematu), partykuły spajające wymagają, aby odpowiedni przedtekst był bezpośrednio przylegający do struktury T-R, którą one komentują.
In this paper, the author tries to collect and comment on the statements that have been made in Polish linguistics on conjuncting particles. Among three main features of conjuncting particles that are discussed are: their adsentential nature, contextual dependency,and positional mobility. Conjuncting particles prefer placement near (before, after, and even within) a thematic part, are often accompanied by prosodic stress on a thematic expression, and prefer longer, sentential contexts. This paper proposes their interpretation as adthematic operators that link what is being said about a new topic to what has been said before on another topic. Because topic linking is more challenging for a conversational partner than conjucting rhemes (where a supreme theme ensures a bond between them), conjuncting particles require the relevant preceding context to be adjacent to the theme-rheme structure introduced by them.

According to the estimates from 2013, 8 per cent of the global capital was located in the so-called ‘offshore zones’, or jurisdictions used for tax optimization, which was $7.6 trillion at the time. Locating funds in tax havens resulted in a reduction of revenue in the relevant jurisdictions of between $500 billion and $600 billion per year. International community has recognized the need to adopt international regulations to counteract the erosion of the tax base. For this purpose, the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) was adopted in 2014. The main idea behind implemented changes was to have an effective exchange of financial information between national tax authorities. This article provides information on the reasons for the adoption of the standard in 2014 and the practice of financial information exchange after 2017. Additionally, data on the effectiveness of exchange of information and critical analysis of some aspects of the functioning of the CRS were presented. The assumptions of the article are presented in terms of internationalization, given the fact that counteracting dishonest taxpayers has shifted from the national to the international level in recent years.

Przedmiotem analizy jest ewolucja zmian, jakie zaszły przez 170 lat w Zakładzie Karnym w Rawiczu. Dwa najważniejsze cele pracy to: identyfikacja najważniejszych zmian, jakie dokonały się w funkcjonowaniu Zakładu Karnego w Rawiczu, oraz ocena funkcjonalności tych zmian względem postępów w zakresie realizacji wybranych zadań. Z racji określonej specyfiki oraz skupienia się na konkretnym odcinku czasowym niniejszy artykuł oscyluje w granicach czasowych od powstania Zakładu Karnego w Rawiczu w roku 1819 do 1989 roku, kończącego w Polsce okres rządów komunistycznych. Zmiany, jakie nastąpiły w ZK w Rawiczu, miały związek z dostosowywaniem owej jednostki do bieżących potrzeb elit rządzących. W dużej mierze skupiały się one na przemianach infrastrukturalnych względem danej grupy docelowej (np. więźniów politycznych) oraz były naturalnie powiązane z prawem stanowionym przez organy rządowe, co przyczyniało się do rozwoju jednostki w określonym kierunku. Wskazane zmiany oraz aktualne na tamte czasy prawodawstwo danego zaborcy przyczyniły się niewątpliwie do rozwoju placówki oraz sprawniejszego (w kontekście aktualnych dla tamtych czasów realiów) jej funkcjonowania.
The subject of the analysis is the evolution of changes that have occurred over 170 years in the Penitentiary in Rawicz. There are two aims of the work: the identification of the most important changes that took place in the Rawicz Penitentiary, together with the explanation of how they influenced the evolution of the institution. Due to the topic specificity and focus on a specific time period, the analysis oscillates within the time limits from the establishment of the Penitentiary in Rawicz, i.e., 1819, up until 1989, i.e., the year ending the period of communist rule in Poland. The changes that took place in the Penitentiary in Rawicz were related to the adaptation of this unit to the current needs of the ruling elites. To a large extent, they focused on infrastructural changes in relation to a given target group (e.g., political prisoners) and were naturally linked to the law enacted by government bodies, which contributed to the development of the unit in a specific direction. The indicated changes and the current legislation of the partitioning powers at that time undoubtedly contributed to the development of the facility and its more efficient functioning (in the context of the realities of those times).

This article examines the position of the Ukrainian language in educational institutions of the USSR during the 60s and 70s of the twentieth century. It is shown that the Soviet government actively implemented the policy of Russification, the aim of which was the complete destruction of the national-educational space of Ukrainians. Numerous decisions and resolutions of the country’s top party leadership have laid a solid foundation for the introduction of Russian as the language of interethnic communication. In the field of education, the ideologues of communism tried to shift the emphasis from the national characteristics of Ukrainians to the “common” for all – the Soviet ones. Oppression of the native language has caused alarm among the Ukrainian public. Realizing that the Ukrainian language is the basis for the preservation and development of the Ukrainian nation, the Ukrainian intelligentsia led the movement to protect it. Disagreeing with Russification, Ukrainians used all possible forms of protest against it at the time. It came to the formation of open opposition to Khrushchev’s educational reform. Many letters were received by various levels of government, newspapers, and magazines from various publishers, whose authors were concerned about the unequal position of the Russian and Ukrainian languages and expressed their indignation at the functioning of a large number of Russian-language educational institutions. Ukrainians were encouraged to spread the Ukrainian language and take care of its further development, thus seeking to preserve their own national identity. And the Ukrainian language continued to live and develop in the thick of the masses.

Artykuł skupia się na parze antonimicznych przymiotników o postaci maksymalny, minimalny oraz wskazaniu ich miejsca w systemie współczesnej polszczyzny, poprzez analizę ich łączliwości składniowo-semantycznej. Wykorzystuje do tego fragmenty klasyfikacji Krystyny Kallas i Jadwigi Wajszczuk i sprawdza, jakie cechy przysługują badanym jednostkom i do jakich klas mogą należeć. Przymiotniki te można traktować jako leksykalne wykładniki superlatywu, a ich znaczenie skupione jest wokół pojęcia możliwości – maksymalny ‘największy z możliwych do osiągnięcia’, minimalny – ‘najmniejszy z możliwych do osiągnięcia’.
The article focuses on the pair of antonymous adjectives maksymalny (maximal) and minimalny (minimal) and examines their position within the contemporary Polish language system through an analysis of their syntactic-semantic compositionality. It utilizes excerpts from the classifications by Krystyna Kallas and Jadwiga Wajszczuk to determine the characteristics attributed to these adjectives and the classes they may belong to. These adjectives can be regarded as lexical expressions of superlatives, with their meaning revolving around the concept of possibility – maksymalny denoting the ‘greatest among the achievable possibilities’ and minimalny denoting the ‘smallest among the achievable possibilities’.

Artykuł przedstawia charakterystykę właściwości gramatycznych i semantyczno-leksykalnych operatora metapredykatywnego tuż. Głównym celem artykułu jest ustalenie ograniczeń składniowych i leksykalno-semantycznych dotyczących prawostronnej pozycji syntaktycznej otwieranej przez operator tuż. W artykule uzasadnia się hipotezę, że tuż implikuje frazę przyimkową mającą znaczenie przestrzenne lub temporalne.
In the paper grammatical and semantic features of the metapredicative operator in the shape of tuż ‘just’ are discussed in the detail. The word under consideration opens one syntactic position on its right side. The aim of the paper is to present syntactic and lexical-semantic restrictions concerning this position. The author justifies the hypothesis that metapredicative operator tuż implies a prepositional phrase which has spatial or temporal meaning.

Doktryny autorytaryzmu i totalitaryzmu stanowią konglomerat różnych wpływów ideologicznych i kulturowych, są zlepkiem wielu koncepcji. Elementem stanowiącym wspólny mianownik jest podejście do kwestii gospodarowania. Mimo różnic w odniesieniu do innych wartości – w obszarze ekonomii odnajdujemy wiele podobieństw. Przede wszystkim po stronie zbieżności występuje podporządkowanie ekonomii polityce. Ekonomia pełni funkcję służebną wobec klasy, narodu czy Volku. Teoretycy wspomnianych nurtów odrzucają działanie praw ekonomicznych, wolny rynek, negują zysk jako motyw podejmowania aktywności gospodarczej. Nacjonaliści, marksiści czy faszyści wyrażają niechęć do wolności gospodarowania, kładąc nacisk na omnipotencję państwa. We wszystkich tych systemach mamy do czynienia z kolektywizmem i odrzuceniem indywidualizmu. Najbardziej naukowo rozbudowany jest system marksistowski, natomiast najmniej – narodowo-socjalistyczny. Obydwa systemy wykazują jednak wiele podobieństw, gdyż poszukują wroga w obszarze gospodarowania. Wrogiem mogą być Żydzi, imperialiści, liberałowie czy inne siły, które zagrażają integralności wspólnoty. Zatem wartości ekonomiczne nie są kategorią analityczną, która pozwoliłaby na identyfikację danego nurtu. Jeśli uznamy, że dany nurt doktrynalny identyfikujemy poprzez politykę, ekonomię i szeroko pojętą kulturę, to ekonomia w przypadku faszyzmu, narodowego socjalizmu, nacjonalizmu i marksizmu nie jest narzędziem pozwalającym na wyodrębnienie doktryny.
The doctrines of authoritarianism and totalitarianism are a conglomerate of various ideological and cultural influences, they are a patchwork of many concepts. The common denominator is the approach to economy. Despite the differences in relation to other values, we find many similarities in this area. First of all, there is the subordination of economy to politics. Economics fulfils a service function towards the class, nation, or Volk. All theorists of these trends reject the operation of economic laws and the free market, they deny profit as a motive for undertaking economic activity. Nationalists, Marxists and fascists express reluctance to economic freedom, emphasizing the omnipotence of the state. In all of these systems we deal with collectivism and a rejection of individualism. The most scientifically developed is the Marxist system, while the least complex is the National Socialist one. Regardless, however, both systems have many similarities, as they are looking for an enemy in the area of economics. They may be Jews, imperialists, liberals, or some other forces that threaten the integrity of the community. Thus, economic values are not an analytical category that would allow the identification of a given trend. If we recognize that we identify a given doctrinal trend through politics, economy and broadly understood culture, then in the case of fascism, National Socialism, nationalism and Marxism, economy is not a tool that allows for identifying a given doctrine.

The purpose of the article is to analyse the process of change in Russian historical policy from a foreign policy perspective. The article hypothesizes that the historical policy can be considered as an indicator of changes in Russia’s foreign policy, allowing to infer the direction of its future development, playing both an ‘integrative’ and ‘disintegrative’ role. Using the example of the EU, the impact of Russia’s historical policy on the EU’s historical narrative is examined. While in the analysed context the new Russian historical narrative signalled a growing distrust and a more confrontational stance towards the EU (a disintegrative role), its unintended side effect was the construction of a common European historical narrative (an integrative role) pushed by the Central and Eastern European states in response to Russia’s aggressive rhetoric on historical issues, the interpretation of which few years earlier had divided the ‘old’ and ‘new’ member states.

The economic crisis of 1957–1958 brought to an end the first and started the second post-war business cycle in the West Germany’s economy. The long-term growth trend of the 1958–1970 period was interlaced with two downturns in the economic development, in the 1962–1963 and 1965–1967 periods, respectively. As in the entire period following the World War II, the downturn in economic activity did not lead to an absolute decline in industrial production and gross domestic product (GDP) on the year to year basis, but only to a reduction in the economic growth rate, or in other words – negative deviation of the growth rate from the long-term development trend.

Artykuł poświęcony jest polskim przysłówkom wprowadzającym ilościową charakterystykę uczestników danego zdarzenia, to znaczy z jednej strony jednostkom takim jak: pojedynczo, jednoosobowo, indywidualnie, solo, solowo z drugiej zaś – licznie, tłumnie, masowo, gromadnie, stadnie, grupowo, gremialnie, kolektywnie, kolegialnie, zespołowo, zbiorowo, chóralnie. Autorka wyróżnia i krótko omawiapodstawowe opozycje, które organizują ten podsystem znaczeń. Opozycje te są następujące: a) jeden – więcej niż jeden; b) osoba – inny organizm – coś; c) wielość ujmowana jako całość – wielość niebędąca całością; d) objęcie charakterystyką wszystkich partycypantów – brak informacji o tego rodzaju kompletności; e) komponent ilościowy jako własność stopniowalna – jako własność niestopniowalna; f) działanie – brak działania.
The article is devoted to Polish adverbs introducing the quantitative characterization of the participants of an event, that is, on the one hand, lexical units such as: pojedynczo, ‘one by one’, jednoosobowo ‘singly’, indywidualnie ‘individually’, samotnie ‘solitarily, alone’, solo, solowo ‘solo’ and on the other – licznie ‘in large numbers’, tłumnie ‘in crowds’, masowo ‘on a large scale’, gromadnie ‘in droves’, stadnie ‘in herds’, grupowo ‘in a grup, as a grup’, gremialnie, kolektywnie, zbiorowo ‘collectively’, kolegialnie ‘collegially’, zespołowo ‘as a team’, chóralnie ‘chorally’. The author distinguishes and briefly discusses the main oppositions that constitute and organize this subsystem of meanings. These oppositions are as follows: a) one individual – more than one; b) person – another organism – something; c) multiplicity conceptualized as a whole – multiplicity not being a whole; d) characterization of all the indicated participants – no information on completeness; e) quantitative component as a gradable – not-gradable trait; f) doing something – lack of action.

Celem artykułu jest przeanalizowanie roli zjednoczenia deputowanych ludowych „Ludowa Rada Ukrainy” w Euromajdanie. W artykule została przedstawiona periodyzacja Euromajdanu według kryterium ustosunkowania uczestników protestów do władz oraz kontekst utworzenia zjednoczenia „Ludowa Rada Ukrainy”. Zostały również omówione działania podjęte przez „Ludową Radę Ukrainy” podczas Euromajdanu. W celu realizacji zamierzenia badawczego zastosowano metody: historyczną, systemową i case study.
The aim of the article is to analyze the role of the union of people’s deputies “People’s Council of Ukraine” in Euromaidan. The article presents the periodization of Euromaidan according to the criterion of protest participants’ attitude towards the authorities. The context for the establishment of the “People’s Council of Ukraine” was defined. Actions taken by the “People’s Council of Ukraine” during Euromaidan were also discussed. In order to implement the research objective, the following methods were used: historical, systemic, and case study.

The topic of the research was the political thought of Piotr Naimski in the field of reducing Poland’s dependence on natural gas supplies from the Russian Federation. The aim of the article was therefore to analyse Naimski’s views on the diversification of the sources and directions of natural gas supplies to Poland and to define the political concepts formulated by this politician. The article indicates Naimski’s views on increasing Poland’s energy security by realizing energy projects such as LNG terminal, Baltic Pipe gas pipeline, as well as activities aimed at counteracting the Russian Federation energy policy in Central Europe. Naimski was one of the staunchest opponents of the construction of Russian-German gas pipelines (Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2).

Na początku lat 20. XX wieku koła rządowe II Rzeczypospolitej w trosce o bezpieczeństwo państwa i przysposobienie obywateli do jego obrony postanowiły zorganizować w szkołach średnich tzw. hufce szkolne. Zrzeszały one chłopców klas starszych, którzy pod doświadczonym kierownictwem mieli przechodzić szkolenie rekruckie lub podoficerskie. Podsumowaniem szkolenia był egzamin, którego wynik miał wpływ na dalszą służbę wojskową absolwenta. W planach przysposobienia wojskowego w szkołach średnich uwzględniono również dziewczęta. Celem żeńskich hufców szkolnych było przygotowanie dziewcząt do pełnienia w razie wojny pomocniczej służby wojskowej w dziedzinie sanitarnej, oświatowej, gospodarczej, kancelaryjnej i łączności. Na równi z wyszkoleniem wojskowym postawiono wychowanie fizyczne. Uczestnictwo w żeńskich hufcach, podobnie jak w męskich, na terenie szkoły było dobrowolne. Warunkiem przyjęcia do hufca było ukończenie 16 lat i dobry stan zdrowia zaświadczony przez lekarza.
At the beginning of the twenties of the 20th century, government circles of the Second Polish Republic, out of concern for the security of the state and preparing citizens to defend it, decided to organize the so-called school troops. They brought together boys of the senior classes, who, under experienced guidance, were to undergo recruitment or non-commissioned officer training. The summary of the training was an exam, the result of which had an impact on the further military service of the graduate. Girls were also included in the plans for military training in the secondary school education. The aim of women’s school troops was to prepare girls for auxiliary military service in the field of sanitary, educational, economic, chancellery and communications in the event of war. On a par with military training, physical education was put into practice. Participation in women’s troops, as well as men’s, on the school grounds was voluntary. The condition for admission to the troop was the age of 16 and good health certified by a doctor.

Według wykazu studiów z zakresu muzealnictwa i ochrony zbiorów, sporządzonego przez NIMOZ, edukację muzealną na poziomie podyplomowym prowadzą cztery ośrodki: Uniwersytet Jagielloński w Krakowie (Instytut Etnologii i Antropologii Kulturowej); Uniwersytet M.Curie-Skłodowskiej w Lublinie (Instytut Kulturoznawstwa); Uniwersytet Warszawski (Instytut Historii Sztuki) i Wydział Sztuk Pięknych UMK w Toruniu (Instytut Zabytkoznawstwa i Konserwatorstwa). Studia podyplomowe w zakresie ochrony i zarządzania kolekcją muzealną, prowadzone obecnie na Wydziale Sztuk Pięknych UMK w Toruniu, są kontynuacją tej formy kształcenia, zapoczątkowanej już w latach 70. XX wieku. Kształcenie w kierunku muzealniczym jest głęboko osadzone w tradycji Wydziału Sztuk Pięknych UMK w Toruniu, bowiem już w roku 1946 utworzono w nim Katedrę Zabytkoznawstwa i Konserwatorstwa, którą w 1969 roku przemianowano na Zakład Konserwatorstwa i Muzealnictwa. W 1972 roku Kazimierz Malinowski wraz z Wojciechem Gluzińskim podjęli starania o utworzenie Podyplomowego Studium Muzeologicznego – funkcjonowało ono do 1980 roku, a później UMK prowadził kilka różnych kierunków kształcenia muzealniczego, by w roku akademickim 1999/2000 utworzyć Podyplomowe Studium Muzealnicze.
According to the registers of University studies in the field of museology and preservation of collections, made by NIMOZ, the museological education at the level of post-graduate studies are run by four academic centres: the Jagiellonian University (Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology), the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin (Institute of Cultural Studies), the Warsaw University (Institute of History of Arts), and the Faculty of History of Arts in Toruń (Institute for the Study and Co nservation of Cultural (Institute of Cultural Studies), the Warsaw University (Institute of History of Arts), and the Faculty of History of Arts in Toruń (Institute for the Study and Co nservation of Cultural Monuments). The post-graduate studies in the sphere of preservation and management of museum collections have been run by the Faculty of Fine Arts of the NCU in Toruń since the 1970s. Museological education has a long tradition at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the NCU in Toruń, because as early as 1946 within its organisational structure the Unit/ Department for the Study and Conservation of Cultural Monuments was created, which in 1969 was transformed into the Unit/Department for Conservation and Museology. In 1972 Kazimierz Malinowski together with Wojciech Gluziński initiated a Post-Graduate Museological Studies it functioned till 1980. Afterwards the NCU in Toruń ran several museological studies, and in the academic year 1999/2000 it set up the Post-Graduate Museological Studies again.

The subject of the paper is a description of the connectivity of metatextual comments, the aim is to show deviant combinations of expressions at this metatext level, which are a consequence of general rules for the utterance, i.e., currently used sentences. I describe the general properties of metatextual commentaries from which the requirements and limitations of their connectivity arise (§ 2). Based on the analysis of connectivity of metatextual commentaries, I present an index of textual relations realized with them (§ 3). Then I present deviant combinations of metatextual comments with expressions filling the items opened by them. As a result of this procedure, I distinguish three types of linguistic deviations arising at this level of the metatext, i.e., pragmatic, illocutionary and utterance contradiction, and their subtypes (§ 4).
Przedmiotem artykułu jest opis łączliwości komentarzy metatekstowych, celem jest wskazanie dewiacyjnych połączeń wyrażeń na tym poziomie metatekstu, będących konsekwencją ogólnych reguł realizacji wypowiedzenia, tj. aktualnie użytych zdań. Opisuję ogólne właściwości komentarzy metatekstowych, z których wynikają wymagania i ograniczenia ich łączliwości (§ 2), na podstawie analizy łączliwości komentarzy metatekstowych wskazuję katalog realizowanych za ich pomocą relacji tekstowych (§ 3) oraz prezentuję dewiacyjne kombinacje komentarzy metatekstowych z wyrażeniami wypełniającymi otwierane przez nie pozycje. W efekcie zastosowanej procedury wyróżniam trzy typy dewiacji językowych powstających na tym poziomie metatekstu, tj. sprzeczność pragmatyczną, illokucyjną i wypowiedzeniową oraz ich podtypy (§ 4).

Większa część tekstu została przygotowana na czysto przez samego Kowalskiego, jak gdyby z zamiarem publikacji, jednak praca pozostała niedokończona i, o ile mi wiadomo, niewydana. Reportaż zawiera wielką ilość szczegółów etnograficznych i językoznawczych, jednak ogólnie ma charakter bardziej literacki niż naukowy.
The present paper is an edition of Tadeusz Kowalski’s report from his trip to northeastern Bulgaria in 1929. Most of the text was prepared by Kowalski himself, as if with the intent of publication, but the work remained unfinished and, to the best of my knowledge, unpublished. The report contains a multitude of ethnographic and linguistic detail, though its overall character is more literary than scientific.

Dans cet article, l’auteur examine le préverbe dis- dans une perspective contrastive franco-polonaise. La première partie présente les enjeux théoriques concernant la théorie universelle de la préfixation sémantique, ainsi que les principes et les étapes de l’analyse sémantico-traductionnelle des préfixes. Ladite analyse est basée sur l’hypothèse que différentes significations (c’est-à-dire des valeurs sémantiques) d’un préverbe donné en langue source devraient se manifester dans la traduction des verbes préfixés en langue cible. La deuxième partie contient les résultats de l’application de la méthode proposée dans l’étude du préverbe dis-. En examinant les traductions polonaises de 42 verbes préfixés en dis-, trouvées dans deux dictionnaires, à savoir le Grand dictionnaire français-polonais et Lexique 5, l’auteur conclut que le préverbe analysé est porteur de 4 valeurs sémantiques : la valeur de mouvement/éloignement (physique ou mental) dans diverses directions, la valeur d’annulation ou inversion de l’action antérieure, la valeur de négation et la valeur de cessation/privation. Grâce à la méthode de recherche utilisée, il devient également possible de constater des différences dans la répartition de ces valeurs aux niveaux profonds du français et du polonais.  
In this article, the author examines the preverb dis- in the French-Polish contrastive perspective. The first part presents theoretical issues concerning the universal theory of semantic prefixation as well as the principles and stages of semantic-traductological analysis of prefixes. The said analysis is based on the assumption that different meanings (i.e. semantic values) of the preverb in the source language should manifest themselves in the prefixed verbs translation into the target language. The second part contains the results of the application of the proposed method in the study of the preverb dis-. By examining the Polish translations of 42 verbs prefixed by dis-, found in two dictionaries, namely Great French-Polish Dictionary and Lexicon 5, the author concludes that the analysed French preverb carries 4 semantic values: the value of moving/moving away (physically or mentally) in different directions, the value of cancellation or reversal of the previous action, the value of negation and the value of interruption/deprivation. Thanks to the applied research method, it becomes also possible to notice differences in the distribution of these values in the deep structures of the French and Polish languages.

Badania nad relacjami między polityką i prawem mają bogatą tradycję, cieszą się sporym zainteresowaniem i mają przed sobą znaczące perspektywy. Nie oznacza to jednak, że udało się przezwyciężyć wszystkie problemy o charakterze metodologicznym – a jest to warunek niezbędny do prowadzenia takich wspólnych badań politologiczno-prawniczych, które będą rzetelne i efektywne poznawczo. W artykule podjęto się rozważenia głównych wyzwań metodologicznych, które powinny zostać przezwyciężone, jeśli badania politologów i prawników mają stworzyć nową jakość badań społecznych. Autor wyraża przy tym sceptyczne stanowisko wobec możliwości integracji wiedzy w obliczu różnic przedmiotowych między prawem i polityką.
Research on the relations between politics and law has rich tradition, enjoys considerable scientific interest, and has significant perspectives for the future. It does not, however, mean that all of the methodological problems have been solved – and this is a necessary condition for conducting such a common political-legal research that would be reliable and cognitively effective. In the article, an attempt has been made to consider the main methodological challenges that should be overcome if common research of political scientists and legal scholars is to create new quality of social research. The author expresses a sceptic attitude towards the possibility of integration of knowledge in the face of differences in subject matters of law and politics.

Contemporary discourse on gender equality in the mass media focuses primarily on analysing news programmes, TV series and advertisements. However, films also constitute powerful cultural stimuli, capable of modifying the attitudes and behaviour of both audiences and the society as a whole. The strength and longevity of their impact lie in their deep roots in the culture in which they operate. For cinematic representations of women and men, this process implies the need to constantly refer to a certain stock of conventions, cultural stereotypes and ways of thinking about gender present in the mentality and social structures of a given community. The same applies to images of women in power in film, which on the one hand are determined by cultural patterns attributed to each gender, while on the other they themselves contribute to their perpetuation in the social consciousness, at the same time creating social images of relations between gender and power in political and economic life. The article discusses this phenomenon in relation to selected Polish films after 1989. The paper will analyse how the roles and behavioural patterns attributed to women were (re)defined in the (changing) public sphere and what the position of characters representing these characteristics was in the narrative of the films.

Artykuł wpisuje się w cykl publikacji poświęconych językowym strategiom stosowanym do opisu muzycznych wrażeń słuchowych. Przedmiotem analizy przedstawionej w artykule jest jeden z typów figuratywnych wyrażeń językowych używanych w języku polskim do opisu brzmień muzycznych – wyrażeń, które typowo odnoszą się do człowieka, zwierzęcia czy też, bardziej ogólnie, do istoty żywej. Celem badania jest opis pojęciowych struktur motywujących te wyrażenia. Analiza wskazuje, iż u podstaw tych wyrażeń leżą schematyczne relacje kategoryzujące, które na wysokim poziomie abstrakcji są reprezentowane przez dwa wzorce: metaforyczny oraz metaforyczno-metonimiczny. Ich konkretyzacjami są relacje kategoryzujące, które reprezentują odpowiedniości między elementami wiedzy pochodzącymi z domeny muzyki oraz istot żywych.
The article constitutes an element of a series of publications devoted to linguistic strategies that are used to describe musical auditory sensations. The object of the present analysis is one of the types of figurative expressions that are used in Polish in reference to musical sounds – expressions that typically designate the human being, animal or, more generally, a living being. The paper aims to give an account of the conceptual structures motivating these expressions. As the analysis shows, there are two schematic categorising relationships underlying them. At a highly schematic level, these relationships are represented by two patterns – one metaphorical and one metaphorical and metonymic. Their instantiations are categorising relationships that represent correspondences between elements of knowledge from the domain of music and the domain of living beings.

Autor rozważa Wittgensteinowską krytykę „prawa tożsamości” oraz Jadwigi Wajszczuk koncepcję koniunkcji, zakładającej wymaganie uzupełnienia treści tego, co aktualnie zostało powiedziane. Autor omówił także dewiacyjny charakter (dewiacyjny z punktu widzenia kodu naturalno-językowego) znanego przykładu Boys are boys. i wskazuje na jego czysto perlokucyjny – jako jedyny możliwy – efekt. Wszystko to przemawia przeciw zakładanemu katalogowi skodyfikowanych „znaczeń”, w ujęciu np. Wierzbickiej. Omówiono także szereg zjawisk pokrewnych.
The author submits a reflection on Wittgenstein’s critique of the “law of identity” and on Wajszczuk’s idea of conjunction entailing the necessity of broadening the contents of what has momentarily been said. The author insists on the deviant nature (deviant from the point of view of the natural-linguistic code) of the famous example Boys are boys. and on its purely perlocutionary effect as its only possible effect. All of this is opposed to the would-be catalogue of codified “meanings”, as those imagined, e.g., by Wierzbicka. A number of related phenomena are also discussed.

Na przestrzeni kilku ostatnich lat teoretycy zajmujący się demokracją liberalną i republikańską wolnością zgłaszali różnorakie zastrzeżenia wobec takiego ujęcia pluralizmu politycznego i prawnego, które autor zaprezentował w swojej monografii: The Structure of Pluralism i które rozwinął później w licznych artykułach na temat pluralizmu i sprawiedliwości oraz relacji państwo–kościoły. Istotnie, tzw. pluralizm jurysdykcyjny może powodować większe napięcie z demokratycznym (czy republikańskim) modelem władzy, niż przyznają to jego zwolennicy. Wydaje się zatem pożyteczne, by wskazać pewne niewypowiedziane założenia koncepcji pluralizmu jurysdykcyjnego (przynajmniej w wydaniu autora), które mogą takie napięcie wywoływać. Artykuł stanowi wstępną próbę przeformułowania pluralizmu w taki sposób, który tłumaczyłby owo napięcie. Jak to bywa w przypadku przyczynków, próba ta może nie być w pełni zadowalająca i kompletna, ale przynajmniej posłuży jako objaśnienie pewnych różnic między fundamentalnymi założeniami pluralistycznymi i demokratycznymi (republikańskimi).
Over the past several years, theorists concerned with liberal democracy and republican freedom have raised various objections to accounts of political and legal pluralism similar to the one the author presented in his monograph The Structure of Pluralism and later developed in several essays on pluralism and justice and on relations between church and state. Indeed, the so-called jurisdictional pluralism may stand in greater tension with democratic (or republican) authority than some of its proponents acknowledge. It is useful, then, to identify some unstated presuppositions in the account of jurisdictional pluralism (or at least in the author’s version of it) which might be the source of this tension. The article is a tentative effort to reformulate pluralism in a way that makes those tensions clear. As all first attempts, it will surely be unsatisfactory and incomplete, but at least it should serve to clarify some differences in fundamental assumptions.
