The subject of the paper is the status and relationships of geography, especially human geography, with the social sciences on the background of the evolution of science from multidisciplinary to transdisciplinary. Progressive hybridization of disciplines and specialties upset the identity of geography in modern science, but geography (human geography), as she was, so it is hardly accepted as a social science among scientists. An important role is played by the traditional assignment of the entire geography to natural sciences and greater isolation of human geography in flows of knowledge within the social sciences. The article presents the specificities of the social sciences in the classification of the sciences, the impact of social sciences on past development of geography and contemporary impact of geography on spatial turn in the social sciences.

In this paper we try to answer the question in what sense social sciences are subjective and in what sense they are objective. We examine only some aspects of this problem. First, we address the question of intersubjectivity, mainly with the ideas of philosopher K. R. Popper. We proceed by proposing the following working definition of objectivity: we understand objective facts as true propositions, the truth of which are independent from a particular observer. We ask whether facts of social sciences are objective in this sense. Then we examine some possible objections to proposed claims and also some aspects of subjectivity of social sciences. We are concerned with the following issues: distribution, imperfection and inconsistency of concrete human knowledge, importance of human purposes, beliefs and opinions and of relations between people or relations of people to things in social sciences. Regarding these problems we are dealing mainly with the work of F. A. Hayek. We also try to show that claims we made about objectivity and subjectivity of social sciences are not contrary to each other.

The article analyses “immersing” empirical research conducted in the field of social sciences (psychology, sociology, education etc.) in four contexts: psychological, ethical, cultural and the context of methodological awareness. It focuses in particular on the following issues, crucial for the condition of social sciences:– research competences of those who undertake to design and conduct empirical research (the state of social and individual methodological awareness);– specificity of psychological research carried out with the participation of human subjects – the perception of empirical research as an interaction “researcher – participant of the study”;– cultural specificity of the environment in which research takes place;– attitude of researchers towards research participants (the state of ethical awareness);– accepted patterns of disseminating research results (the policy of editors of scientific journals to approve only of such papers which contain statistically significant results i.e. with significance at the level of p < 0,05;;– assessment practices applied in institutions employing researchers: bibliometric assessment of academic units and the evaluation of individual scholars’ research performance;– succumbing to the pressure exerted by supervisors on researchers to publish “at all costs.”

First Causes according to the Big Bang Theory

The inspiration of this text is the belief of the Pythagoreans that the roots and source of complete knowledge is the quadruple expressed in the “arch-four”, also called as tetractys. Hence the hypothesis considered in this paper is: the basis of the philosophy of social sciences is entangled in these four valours, manifested in what is “general and necessary” (scientific) in social life, the first and universal as to the “principles and causes” of this life (theoretically philosophical) and “which can be different in it” (practically philosophical) and “intuitive”. The quadruple appears with different clarity in the history of human thought, which seeks clarification and understanding of the things being cognised, including such a thing as society. It is exposed in the oath of the Pythagoreans, the writings of Plato and Aristotle, who applied these four valours, among other things, in distinguishing the four types of knowledge and learning about the first four causes and principles. This fourfold division seems to be experiencing a renaissance in contemporary theological-cognitive holism and can be treated as an expressive, a “hard core”, and the basis of research not only of social but mainly of global society as a social system. This entanglement of the foundations of the philosophy of the social sciences leads to the suggestion of defining this philosophy as the knowledge of social being composed of “what is general and necessary” (scientific), genetically first, universal (theoretically philosophical) and “being able to be different” (philosophically practical) and intuitive.

The social sciences have inherited a not so clear relationship with the social politics throughout the history. At the first moment the concept of social sciences came into use in the 19th century the first organizations that were promoting them were not located in the universities. They were located in the Public Sector. They brought into the scenery not only professional of the area, but also politicians, clerics and businessmen. The main objective was the promoting of the reforms that consider the social politics able to improve the so defined social problems. These associations thought that by collecting different kind of data regarding these problems they would reach a clear insight on the directions the state should follow in the framework of different politics and reforms. As a result, the national research capacity is of the highest importance to the ability of a state to invent and implement successfully its politics based on evidences that concern and come as a reaction to the concerns and issues of the social problems as a whole. In this article I will be presenting first of all an overview of the scientific research in Albania in the area of the social sciences by pointing out the main areas that deserve to be the prior ones in the contest of developing activities that aim the implementation of the research in Social Sciences. Also, a great number of Institutions has been contacted with the aim of receiving official information and data on the functioning and on the potential problems that can be faced during the research processes. These institutions have been selected based on their involvement at the area of the scientific research of the social sciences. At first this will involve the policy makers at the central level, like the Ministry of Education and Sciences and the main research actors in the public and in the private sector. The criteria of the geographical and the subjects coverage has been also used in order to be able to present a public institutions of the higher education and research but even the enterprises that act in the research area are mainly focusing to the integration of these two systems which have been working separately for a long period of time and that must become efficient in order to adapt to the conditions of a country that has limited financial resources. This article is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the scientific research in Albania, focusing in defining the priority areas for the research in social sciences. The information about the higher education and the potential problems that it faces, is based on a big number of research institutions, selected based on their involvement in scientific research in social sciences. This article brings into evidence the fact that in order to establish a stable and effective infrastructure in scientific research in Albania, is important to work in different directions. A successful way to increase the efficasity through the elements of the “innovative system” is by working with organizations that work in specific sectors of the economy, aiming for a possible cooperation in scientific search, for an important social contribution.

Contemporary practitioners and scientists more and more frequently highlight the extraordinarily rapid process of implementation of new technologies – including those based on artificial intelligence – and unpredictable consequences of such actions. Therefore, it is important to be an active participant in the debate on the relation between human and modern technologies, a debate based on interdisciplinary scientific knowledge. The article refers to selected ideas related to knowledge management, organisational learning, knowledge area, or innovation environment. The challenge which social science researchers face, next to examining the theoretical aspects, is the application of various calculation methods and new technologies to make quicker and easier decisions in social contexts – with regard to various groups of people, e.g. employees, customers, or voters. Apart from the new methods, another serious challenge is to raise social awareness regarding the digital responsibility in certain groups such as managers or, more generally, employers and employees. The responsibility of the elite and scientific authorities should consist in instilling awareness in one another and approaching the new phenomenon with care. Potential threats may completely change our civilisation. The presented discussion is based on literature study which included selected theories and reports of research centres and scientific bodies. A particularly interesting case study discussed in this article includes TOP CDR initiative and a report prepared by SW RESEARCH agency in cooperation with Procontent public relations and digital marketing agency. The conclusions of this report indicate that corporate digital responsibility (CDR) may be a pioneering area for in-depth empirical studies. The nature of the topic, despite being clearly related to sociology, requires interdisciplinary approach and cooperation of numerous circles, not only scientific ones.

The ethic of education is a set of professional rules and regulations agreed upon by the scientific community that obliges actors to comply with codes of conduct in the science education process. This article is asking about levels and types of academic dishonesty and recognizing factors affecting it in Iran’s social sciences education. The data were collected using semi-structured interviews with Ph.D. students of public Universities in Tehran were analyzed with qualitative content analysis. Research findings show that academic dishonesty and factors affecting it are evident in the education of social science at two levels of micro and macro. At the micro or actor’s level, individual characteristics and personality traits of students and professors impact on the occurrence of academic dishonesty. Moreover, at the macro or structural level, the way of distribution of resources and rules in the education paves the way for and facilitates the occurrence of academic dishonesty. Consequently, dishonesty in the education of Iran’s social sciences and factors affecting it can be explained in the light of a structuration approach.

Część pierwsza artykułu poświęcona jest zagadnieniu osobliwości poznania naukowego w aspekcie perspektywy antropologicznej, czyli z uwzględnieniem tego, że świat międzyludzki wypełniony jest wielością rozmaitych (częściej niżby życzyli sobie humaniści-uniwersaliści), wzajem alternatywnych ładów aksjologicznych. W części drugiej mowa jest o „skłonnościach” uczonych (rzeczników i szermierzy „odczarowywania świata”) do ukształtowania (w skali globalnej) myślenia i działania ludzi w sposób odpowiadający regułom naukowego oglądu i obrazowania rzeczywistości.
The first part of this article deals with the characteristics of scientific discovery from an anthropological point of view, in other words taking into account the fact that the world is full of a variety of alternative axiological orders (more than some humanitarians universalists would like). The second part discusses the “tendencies” of scholars (spokesmen and champions of “world demistification”) to shape (on a global scale) human thinking and action that conforms to the rules of scientific outlook and the picture of reality. One can say that the article is devoted to the permanent “tendency” of scholars to view the world as a state of affairs which cannot be coherent because an Instauratio Magna is indispensable. That means that scholars willingly appear in the role of world explorers and designers of a utopia for the entire world.

The comparison of the picture of social sciences at the beginning of the 20th century and their state at the start of the 21st leads to the discovery of unexpected changes, contradictions and paradoxes typical of post-modernism. A question is addressed: do all these changes, which bring about the discussion of the post-modern era, cover also sciences, and social sciences in particular. Paradoxically, the post-modern era of informationalism and a society of knowledge is not conducive to the autonomy of science and consequently disturbs the frail and delicate autonomy of social sciences. The post-modern phenomenon of departing from the modernist division of sciences and scientific disciplines manifests itself in theoretically and methodologically dubious cultural, social, political, and other studies. One can look at that phenomenon as a reaction to excessive fragmentation and autonomization in social sciences and an attempt of integrating reconstruction aiming also at eliminating the autonomy of theory in relation to practice.

An academic degree gained in the field of social sciences also means more extensive knowledge of the surrounding world understood as the natural environment crucial in defining the position and development of humankind. Interpersonal communication, apart from the colloquialisms related to climate phenomena (weather), shows an evolving state of knowledge of the topic, changing attitudes, and possible stances formulating the need for change. Opinion polls conducted among 150 social science students comprise the source material for the lexicological analysis in the areas of the knowledge, time, and responsibility (related to environmentalism and climate) indicating that attitudes towards the natural environment are present in communicative behaviours.

The author formulates a thesis that a new institutionalism (NI) offers a viable platform for integration of various disciplines of social sciences. The thesis is supported by a number of arguments. First, new institutionalism creates a convenient theoretical framework, which facilitates addressing the essential dilemmas in economics, sociology and other disciplines of social sciences. Second, sociologists continuously recall and reinterpret classic social scientists. In that respect NI appears as an useful approach. Third, NI owes its existence to the key debates in social sciences, thus it is also an area suitable for exploring linkages among various related disciplines. Fourth, NI is a broad heuristic framework. Finally, NI contains normative aspects.
