In the paper a summary of our previously realized and published work connected with constructing collective intelligent evolutionary multi-agent systems for time series prediction, based on multi-layered perceptrons is shown. Besides recalling our past papers, we describe the whole concept, present an implementation in a contemporary, componentoriented software framework AgE 3.0 and we conduct a number of experiments, finding different optimal parametrization for the considered instances of the problems (popular Mackey-Glass chaotic time series). The paper may be useful for a practitioner willing to use our meatheuristic algorithm (EMAS) along with the idea of collective agent-based system in order to realize prediction tasks.

This paper proposes the development of a formation control algorithm of multiple acoustic underwater vehicles by employing the behaviour of autonomous mobile agents under a proposed pursuit. A robust pursuit is developed using the distributed consensus coordinated algorithm ensuring the transfer of information among the AUVs. The development of robust pursuit based on characteristics of multi-agent system is for solving the incomplete information capabilities in each agent such as asynchronous computation, decentralized data and no system global control. In unreliable and narrow banded underwater acoustic medium, the formation of AUVs based distributed coordinated consensus tracking can be accomplished under the constant or varying virtual leader’s velocity. Further, the study to achieve tracking based on virtual leader AUV’s velocity is extended to fixed and switching network topologies. Again for mild connectivity, an adjacency matrix is defined in such a way that an adaptive connectivity is ensured between the AUVs. The constant virtual leader vehicle velocity method based on consensus tracking is more robust to reduce inaccuracy because no accurate position and velocity measurements are required. Results were obtained using MATLAB and acquired outcomes are analysed for efficient formation control in presence of the underwater communication constraints.

In this paper, an energy coordination control method based on intelligent multi-agent systems (MAS) is proposed for energy management and voltage control of a DC microgrid. The structure of the DC microgrid is designed to realize the mathematical modeling of photovoltaic cells, fuel cells and batteries. A two-layer intelligent MAS is designed for energy coordination control: grid-connection and islanding of a DC microgrid is combined with energy management of PV cells, fuel cells, loads and batteries. In the hidden layer and the output layer of the pro-posed neural network there are 17 and 8 neurons, respectively, and the “logsig” activation function is used for the neurons in the network. Eight kinds of feature quantities and 13 different actions are taken as the input and output parameters of the neural network from the micro-source and the load, and the as the control center agent’s decision-makers. The feasibility of the proposed intelligent multi-agent energy coordination control strategy is verified by MATLAB/Simulink simulation, and three types of examples are analyzed after increasing the load. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme exhibits better performance than the traditional approaches.

Inspired by the multi-agent systems, we propose a model-based distributed control architecture for robotic manipulators. Here, each of the joints of the manipulator is controlled using a joint level controller and these controllers account for the dynamic coupling between the links by interacting among themselves. Apart from the reduced computational time due to distributed computation of the control law at the joint levels, the knowledge of dynamics is fully utilized in the proposed control scheme, unlike the decentralized control schemes proposed in the literature. While the proposed distributed control architecture is useful for a general serial-link manipulator, in this paper, we focus on planar manipulators with revolute joints. We provide a simple model-based distributed control scheme as an illustration of the proposed distributed model-based control architecture. Based on this scheme, distributed model-based controller has been designed for a planar 3R manipulator and simulations results are presented to demonstrate that the manipulator successfully tracks the desired trajectory.

This paper addresses the problem of resource division for robotic agents in the framework of Multi-Agent System. Knowledge of the environment represented in the system is uncertain, incomplete and distributed among the individual agents that have both limited sensing and communication abilities. The pick-up-and-collection problem is considered in order to illustrate the idea presented. In this paper a framework for cooperative task assignment to individual agents is discussed. The process of negotiating access to common resources by intercommunicating agents is modeled and solved as a game against Nature. The working of the proposed system was verified by multiple simulations. Selected, exemplary simulations are presented in the paper to illustrate the approach discussed.

The purpose of this study is to create, analyze and reuse an ontology-based approach during implementation of a multi-agent system (MAS) capable of integrating different elements of a distributed control system (DCS). Ontology is considered as knowledge about a particular domain. It includes static description of the domain’s structure and properties, by means of which it is possible to define the domain’s dynamic states, transitions between those states and conditions of those transitions. Because of that, it is possible to analyze such ontology in terms of modal logic in predicate logic settings.

The use of Multi Agents Systems (MAS), Cloud Computing (CC) and Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) in e-commerce has increased in recent years. The purpose of these systems is to enable users of electronic markets to make transactions in the best conditions and to help them in their decisions. The design and implementation is often characterized by the constant manipulation of information, many of which are imperfect. The use of the multi-agent paradigm for the realization of these systems implies the need to integrate mechanisms that take into account the processing of fuzzy information. This makes it necessary to design multi-agent systems (MAS) with fuzzy characteristics. For the modeling and realization of this system, we chose to use the FMAS model. This paper deals with the presentation of the use of the Fuzzy MAS model for the development of a management and decision support application in a virtual market with high availability. After the presentation of the system to be realized in the first section, we describe in the second section the application of the model FMAS for the design and the realization of this system. We then specify the JADE implementation platform and how the fuzzy agents of our model (Expert, Choice and Query) can be implemented using this platform.

In recent years increasing interest in autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) has been observed. AUVs can be applied to a wide range of tasks, for example, to inspect various underwater objects. Many applications require cooperation between AUVs. In order for AUVs to cooperate, the system coordinating movements of individual AUVs has to be designed. To obtain such system different solutions can be used. One of them is proposed in the paper.
W ciągu ostatnich lat obserwuje się wzrost zainteresowania autonomicznymi pojazdami podwodnymi (AUV). Mogą być one stosowane w różnego rodzaju zadaniach, w tym do inspekcji obiektów podwodnych. Wiele aplikacji wymaga współpracy pomiędzy pojazdami AUV. W związku z tym pojawia się problem sterowania grupą robotów, które realizują wspólne zadanie. Jednym z rozwiązań może być zastosowanie wieloagentowego systemu kontroli, w którym poszczególne pojazdy AUV wyposażone są w "inteligentne oprogramowanie" realizujące przydzielone zadania. W artykule przedstawiono koncepcję wieloagentowego systemu kontroli pojazdów podwodnych.

The publication presents the structure of the agent system, tasked with control of the formation of unmanned port tugboats capable of performing pilot and towing services. The use of autonomous tugboats with installed software was presented with respect to the existing regulations related to Resolution MSC.467 developed by the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) belonging to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which creates guidelines for the definition and harmonization of the structure and format of maritime services in the context of e-navigation. The use of a multi-agent system structure enables synergistic cooperation of tugboats carrying out joint port operations, such as: assistance in maneuvers of ships, precision movement of ships and other objects in port areas, monitoring and patrolling of port areas, carrying out ice operations, carrying out inspections of quays, the possibility of assistance in liquidation of petroleum and similar pollutant spills. The paper presents the structure of the agent system and the description of possible scenarios of port operations. The control algorithms and the applied methods of artificial intelligence, such as evolutionary algorithms with elements of fuzzy logic, were discussed. The recorded traffic parameters from the actions carried out in the simulator of the marine navigation environment were presented.

W artykule przedstawiono system wieloagentowy wspomagający projektowanie wybranych układów sterowania sterami strumieniowymi. Zaimplementowany system składa się z czterech niezależnych programów komputerowych (agentów), które poprzez realizację unikalnych algorytmów oraz wzajemną komunikację dobierają odpowiednią strukturę i elementy układu sterowania oraz po przeprowadzeniu badań symulacyjnych dokonują oceny jakości otrzymanego rozwiązania projektowego.
In this paper the distributed multi-agent system for aided design of chosen control systems is presented. Implemented system consists of four independent software agents: Interface Agent (gathers and initially validates the data from user designer), Master Agent (supervises the design process by delegating tasks to particular agents and enables deployment of machine learning algorithms), Matlab Agent (loads the necessary items from the database, creates a control system model and conducts dynamic calculations for the designed structure), Expert Agent (evaluates the simulation results regarding the suitability of generated solution and provides a report for system user). The outcome of the system activity is a ready-made solution concerning an appropriate structure and elements of the thruster control system.

The key standards for negotiation in multi agent systems are considered. Multiagent systems represent one of the most promising technological paradigms for the development of autonomous, distributed, open and intelligent software systems. Particularly because the agents are autonomous and cannot be assumed to be benevolent negotiation is critical to resolve conflicts. Examples of conflicts include conflicts over the usage of joint resources or task assignments and conflicts between a buyer and a seller in electronic commerce. The process of negotiations may be of many different forms, such as auctions, protocols in the style of the contract net, and argumentation. The paper focuses on the analysis of specification standards provided by FIPA (Foundation of Intelligent Physical Agents). The first part of the study will present basic information about the negotiations in multi-agent systems. For this purpose, will be shown the importance of negotiations in modeling interactions software agents, types of messages used in multi-agent systems using standard FIPA ACL and options for online auctions, which can be aided by software agents. The second part will present the commonly used protocols consistent with FIPA specifications. To this end, we will discuss eleven diagrams depicting the model sequences of interaction agents. Their use can be found in the construction of multi-agent systems.

Research background: Managerial scientists use a lot of modelling techniques for business processes. In this paper we are focused on agent-based modelling and simulations, which emerged in the last two decades as a new approach. Autonomous and interacting intelligent agents are able to model and simulate complex systems in the business sphere. With the use of agent-based modelling and simulations we are able to understand how macro level outcomes are affected by micro level processes and vice versa. Purpose of the article: The purpose of the paper is to introduce recent development in the area of agent-based modelling and simulations focused on the business domain. Managers often have to make difficult decisions under the uncertainty and high risks. Agent-based modelling can provide powerful tools for lowering those risks through a possibility of running experiments, which is normally impossible in economics. In the second part we want to support the usefulness of agent-based simulations with our own simulations. Methods: The method used in this article is an agent-based simulation in a multi-agent system. We use a framework called MAREA. It is a simulation environment with integrated ERP system based on REA ontology. Our simulation model is based on a retail company that sells electronics. For simplicity, in our setup we trade with computer cables. Findings & Value added: In our simulations we experimented with the quality of sales service provided by company’s sales representatives. We investigated the impact of quality of sales service on company KPIs under the changing environment circumstances represented by disturbance agent. The quality of sales service is a part of quality of service and thus it affects the perception of brand and loyalty of customers towards the company. In our simulation setup we work with two types of customers, long-term customers and new ones. The result is that quality of sales service has mostly positive effects on company KPIs.

The paper presents an application of an auction algorithm in a multi-agent computer system for managing the unbalanced energy in a microgrid. The main goal of the system is to control and minimize the deviations of the current energy dem and from the actual energy production, using an auction algorithm. Distributed generation is assumed in the microgrid, with renewable power sources. The energy storages and the controllable power sources improve the system operation. The differences between the actual demand and produced energy are caused by unpredictable level of electric power generation by uncontrolled sources, like wind turbines or solar panels, and/or randomness of power utilization. The system will tend to balance out these differences on-line in short time intervals (less than one minute) to follow-up varying levels of local power generation and loads.

Previous studies in multi-agent systems have observed that varying the type of information that agents communicate, such as goals and beliefs, has a significant impact on the performance of the system with respect to different, usually conflicting, performance metrics, such as speed of solution, communication efficiency, and travel distance/cost. Therefore, when designing a communication strategy for a multi-agent system, it is unlikely that one strategy can perform well with respect to all of performance metrics. Yet, it is not clear in advance, which strategy will be the best with respect to each metric. With multi-agent systems being a common paradigm for building distributed systems in different domains, performance goals can vary from one application to the other according to the domain’s specifications and requirements. To address this issue, this work proposes a genetic algorithm-based approach for learning a goal- oriented communication strategy. The approach enables learning an effective communication strategy with respect to flexible, user-defined measurable performance goals. The learned strategy will determine what, when, and to whom information should be communicated during the course of task execution in order to improve the performance of the system with respect to the stated goal. Our preliminary evaluation shows that the proposed approach has promising results and the learned strategies have significant usefulness in improving the performance of the system with respect to the goals.

We present a system to generate poems based on the information extracted from input text such as blog posts. Our design uses the blackboard architecture, in which independent specialized modules cooperate during the generation process by sharing a common workspace known as the blackboard. Each module is responsible for a particular task while generating poetry. Our implementation incorporates modules that retrieve information from the input text, generate new ideas, or select the best partial solutions. These distinct modules (experts) are implemented as diverse computational units that make use of lexical resources, grammar models, sentiment-analyzing tools, and languageprocessing algorithms. A control module is responsible for scheduling actions on the blackboard. We argue that the blackboard architecture is a promising way of simulating creative processes because of its flexibility and compliance with the Global Workspace Theory of mind. The main contribution of this work is the design and prototype implementation of an extensible platform for a poetry-generating system that may be further extended by incorporating new experts as well as some existing poetrygenerating systems as parts of the blackboard architecture. We claim that this design provides a powerful tool for combining many of the existing efforts in the domain of automatic poetry generation.

Negotiation is an interaction that happens in multi-agent systems when agents have conflicting objectives and must look for an acceptable agreement. A typical negotiating situation involves two agents that cannot reach their goals by themselves because they do not have some resources they need or they do not know how to use them to reach their goals. Therefore, they must start a negotiation dialogue, taking also into account that they might have incomplete or wrong beliefs about the other agent’s goals and resources. This article presents a negotiating agent model based on argumentation, which is used by the agents to reason on how to exchange resources and knowledge in order to achieve their goals. Agents that negotiate have incomplete beliefs about the others, so that the exchange of arguments gives them information that makes it possible to update their beliefs. In order to formalize their proposals in a negotiation setting, the agents must be able to generate, select and evaluate arguments associated with such offers, updating their mental state accordingly. In our approach, we will focus on an argumentation-based negotiation model between two cooperative agents. The arguments generation and interpretation process is based on belief change operations (expansions, contractions and revisions), and the selection process is a based on a strategy. This approach is presented through a high-level algorithm implemented in logic programming. We show various theoretical properties associated with this approach, which have been formalized and proved using Coq, a formal proof management system. We also illustrate, through a case study, the applicability of our approach in order to solve a slightly modified version of the well-known home improvement agents problem. Moreover, we present various simulations that allow assessing the impact of belief revision on the negotiation process.

W artykule przedstawiono mechanizm szeregowania procesów (symulacji) w systemie wieloagentowym wspomagającym projektowanie układów sterowania. Zaimplementowany algorytm ma za zadanie przydzielanie poszczególnych procesów do jednostek obliczeniowych, tak aby minimalizować czas przetwarzania zapytań przez system. Szeregowanie procesów pozwoliło na zwiększenie wydajności systemu wieloagentowego na poziomie 245%.
In this paper the new mechanism of processes scheduling in multi-agent systems is presented. This mechanism is based on the assumption that incoming requests shall be scheduled and processed by the least loaded unit. Implementation of the algorithm improved the multi-agent system performance at the level of 245% by reducing the time of request processing.

Niniejszy artykuł opisuje wykorzystanie podejścia wieloagentowego do wspierania twórczości organizacyjnej. Dlatego aby pokazać możliwości systemu agen- towego scharakteryzowano termin inteligentny agent i systemy wieloagentowe. Na tej podstawie opisano warunki stosowalności inteligentnych agentów w twórczości organi-zacyjnej. Wynikiem końcowym przedstawionych dociekań jest propozycja warunków, które powinny być spełnione przy wspomaganiu twórczości organizacyjnej przez syste-my agentowe.
This paper describes the use of multi-agent approach to support the organiza¬tional creativity. In order to show capabilities of the agent systems the terms intelligent agent and multi-agent systems were characterized. On this basis the conditions of appli¬cability of intelligent agents in organizational creativity were described. The final result of the submitted paper is the specification of conditions that should be satisfied by supporting the organization creativity with agent systems. The findings and outcomes should be useful for further research in this area.

The growing costs of energy and environmental care stimulate the development of technologies reducing the energy usage. In this paper we discuss the case of an intelligent city lighting system which acts towards fitting the actual enyironment needs related to lighting. It is accomplished by performing some actions when an enyironment state ehanges but also by predieting the state ehanges on the basis of data proyided by sensors. The problem complexity requires using formal model of a system enabling a problem decomposition and processing parallelization.
Rosnące koszty energii, a także troska o środowisko naturalne stymulują rozwój technologii zmniejszających zużycie energii. W artykule dyskutowany jest inteligentny system oświetlenia miejskiego, którego celem jest dostosowywanie pracy oświetlenia do aktualnych potrzeb. Osiąga się to przez podejmowanie odpowiednich akcji w warunkach zmiany stanu środowiska, ale także przez predykcję jego stanu, na podstawie otrzymywanych danych sensorycznych. Złożoność obliczeniowa tak postawionego zadania sterowania wymaga użycia formalnego modelu systemu, pozwalającego na dekompozycję problemu i zrównoleglenie obliczeń.

In recent years, an increasing trend in application of autonomous mobile robots in multi-agent systems worldwide has highlighted the importance of robot path planning. In this context, one of the main problems includes optimal route determination and collision avoidance development for multi-robot systems. In many situations, using multi-robot systems in the same environment is a good strategy in managing tasks, and an example of which can be the logistic environment. This paper presents robot control algorithms used for transport managing in virtual warehouses. The problem of multi-robot path planning in this paper refers to establishing an optimized path and avoiding obstacles. The algorithm proposed by the authors assumes control over the work of a single robot, in cooperation with other robots, in the same environment. The robot performs the task, which is the transport of resources from distribution points to points of storage, while the routing algorithm is used to evaluate the effectiveness of the algorithms. Simulation results show that the proposed method can effectively improve the performance of the planned path.
W ostatnich latach tendencja wzrostowa stosowania autonomicznych robotów mobilnych w systemach wieloagentowych spowodowała wzrost znaczenia planowania ścieżek robotów. W tym kontekście jednym z głównych problemów stało się wyznaczenie optymalnej trasy ruchu robota oraz unikania kolizji. W wielu sytuacjach zastosowanie systemów wieloagentowych jest dobrą strategią do zarządzania przepływem zadań w określonym środowisku, przykładem może tutaj posłużyć środowisko logistyczne. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia algorytm sterowania ruchem robotów w zarządzaniu transportem w wirtualnych magazynach. Problem planowania ruchem robotów w ramach niniejszego artykułu odnosi się do znalezienia optymalnej ścieżki poruszania się między miejscem początkowym a docelowym w taki sposób, aby uniknąć przeszkód. Proponowane przez autorów algorytmy zakładają kontrolę pracy jednego robota, we współpracy z innymi robotami, w tym samym środowisku. Każdy robot wykonuje zadanie poprzez transport zasobu z punktów dystrybucji do punktów składowania. Proponowane algorytmy wyznaczania tras są ocenianie pod względem czasu realizacji zadań oraz wydajności energetycznej. Wyniki symulacji wskazują, że proponowana przez autorów metoda może skutecznie zwiększyć wydajność planowania ścieżek ruchu robotów.

The smart grid concept is predicated upon the pervasive use of advanced digital communication, information techniques, and artificial intelligence for the current power system, to be more characteristics of the real-time monitoring and controlling of the supply/demand. Microgrids are modern types of power systems used for distributed energy resource (DER) integration. However, the microgrid energy management, the control, and protection of microgrid components (energy sources, loads, and local storage units) is an important challenge. In this paper, the distributed energy management algorithm and control strategy of a smart microgrid is proposed using an intelligent multi-agent system (MAS) approach to achieve multiple objectives in real-time. The MAS proposed is developed with co-simulation tools, which the microgrid model, simulated using MATLAB/Simulink, and the MAS algorithm implemented in JADE through a middleware MACSimJX. The main study is to develop a new approach, able to communicate a multi-task environment such as MAS inside the S-function block of Simulink, to achieve the optimal energy management objectives.
