Opis:
The paper presents the mathematical analysis for the design of a new tennis ball launcher in order to assess the possibilities for its technical implementation. First, traditional launchers are described. Next, several new requirements improving training possibilities of such machines are suggested. The motion equation of the flying tennis ball is formulated and numerically solved. This makes it possible to analyze the trajectories of the ball for different initial conditions: elevation and heading angles, as well as the rollers angle. Then, the mathematical analysis of the launcher with two counter rotating rollers is presented. Stiffness (Young's) modulus and friction coefficients for the typical tennis ball have been determined ex-perimentally. Based on these, initial conditions for the throw have been found: rotating speeds of the rollers and powers of the driving motors.

Extracts from strawberry and raspberry leaves, carrot pomace, and spent grains, were tested as bioreducing agents for the synthesis of nanosilver particles (AgNP). Based on UV vis spectra, the leaf extracts produced the most AgNP, carrot pomace was less effective, and spent grains did not produce AgNP. The dynamic light scattering method revealed that AgNP ranged from 1 to 92nm in size, and that over 80% of the particles were about 10nm. Energy dispersive X ray spectroscopy showed that elements that typically stabilize nanoparticles were present. The well diffusion method (nutrient agar medium) indicated that AgNP synthesized with raspberry leaf extract exerted strong bacteriostatic and bactericidal activity against Gram negative bacteria and weaker activity against Gram positive bacteria. Although further analysis is needed to determine the mechanism of their synthesis, the results of this study show that plant extract based synthesis can produce nanoparticles with controlled size and morphology.

This study addressed the advanced micro-morphological characterization of 3D surfaces of thin films based on composites of an organic matrix of poly-methyl-methacrylate and inorganic titanium-dioxide nanocrystals. The films were prepared by spin-coating of a series of solutions with increasing loading concentration of the nanocrystals, from 5 up to 40% by weight. The film surfaces were investigated by atomic force microscopy, and the resulting images were analyzed in detail to obtain a full quantitative description of their surface micro-morphology. The fractal analysis of the surface roughness was used to extract the characteristics of amplitude, spatial distribution, and pattern. A fractal geometry was indeed observed, and the corresponding fractal dimension D was determined for all the samples. In view of the possible use of these thin films as functional coatings, the calculated quantities are discussed with respect to the foreseen durability of these surfaces during operation under wear.

The article is based on a fragment of the diary of Władysław Zahorski, still in the manuscript, entitled “My memories” and rich literature on the subject. It was written down years later, therefore it should be analyzed with great sensitivity and it should be careful to formulate conclusions. The author of the diary was a well-known Vilnius doctor, cultural and social activist and the author of many works on the history and monuments of Vilnius. The article deals with the problems of exiles in Ufa, observed from the position of a child from the intelligentsia family from western Krai. The author came from a family, whose social position and material status were definitely better than those Poles who were subjected to forced exile in post-January realities. In the diary it can be found the unknown and valuable information, that complements the current state of knowledge about the life of exiles of this part of Siberia. In addition, it creates a cognitive perspective concerning the exiles in the consciousness of a generation of insurgents’ children in 1863, to which Władysław Zahorski belonged.

Autorka przybliża wybrany etap twórczości Michała Kuleszy, który naraziwszy się carskiej cenzurze przez przemycenie wizerunku polskiego orła w swoim debiucie choreograficznym (Divertissement wioślarskie, 1891) musiał czekać kilkanaście lat na ponowną możliwość stworzenia własnego dzieła. Gdy pełnił obowiązki zwierzchnika baletu, skorzystał z rozluźnienia cenzury i wprowadził do drugiego aktu Pana Twardowskiego (1905) korowód polonezowy z postaciami z Pana Tadeusza, a w tle umieścił posąg Adama Mickiewicza, przy którym w finale tańca złożono wieniec z czerwono-białymi szarfami. Kolejnym krokiem była premiera Tadeusza i Zosi (1906), którą po ośmiu pokazach zdjęto z afisza, najpewniej ingerencją znów zaostrzonej cenzury. Autorka artykułu omawia założenia baletu i partyturę opracowaną przez Adolfa Sonnenfelda, a także podejmuje próbę rekonstrukcji libretta i przebiegu spektaklu na podstawie relacji prasowych oraz listy solistów i postaci.
The author presents a selected chapter in the artistic activity of Michał Kulesza, who, having offended tsarist censors by smuggling an image of the Polish eagle into his choreographic debut (Divertissement wioślarskie [Rowing Divertissement], 1891), had to wait more than a dozen years for an opportunity to create a new work of his own. Taking advantage of the relaxation of censorship, when he was in charge of a ballet stage, he introduced into the second act of Pan Twardowski [Mr Twardowski] (1905) a polonaise procession of characters from Adam Mickiewicz’s Pan Tadeusz: The Last Foray in Lithuania. In the background, he placed a statue of the Polish Romantic bard, by which a wreath with red-and-white ribbons was laid in the dance finale. Kulesza’s next step was the premiere of Tadeusz i Zosia [Thaddeus and Zosia] (1906); the ballet based on Mickiewicz’s protagonists was performed only eight times, probably due to an intervention by the censorship, now tightened again. The author of the article discusses the ballet’s outline and the score composed by Adolf Sonnenfeld. She also attempts to reconstruct the libretto and the course of the performance, drawing on historical press accounts and a list of soloists and characters.

The SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic has changed how almost every sphere of our lives functions. Its greatest impact can be seen in the functioning of the health care sector, whose task was not only to care for the sick or people suspected of infection, but also to take all measures to prevent the spread of infections. The imposition of a state of epidemic threat in Poland, and then the state of epidemic, provided a basis for imposing a number of restrictions that had a significant impact on the realisation of patients’ fundamental rights. The purpose of the considerations is to present and analyse the limitations of selected patient rights during the SARSCoV-2 pandemic. This article first presents issues related to patient rights in genere, emphasizing their importance for the proper functioning of the health care system in the country. Next, the limitations of selected patient rights, which unquestionably occurred in the era of COVID-19, are presented. It is shown that the rights indicated were not only limited, and sometimes even excluded. The article also presents an analysis of the annual reports of the Patients’ Rights Ombudsman, which in their content confirms the great increase in the number of violations of patient rights in the period of SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Consequently, this resulted in a far-reaching negative impact on the perception of the health care system in our country.

Artykuł poświęcony jest motywowi anioła w tradycyjnych wyobrażeniach ludowych z uzwzględnieniem kolorytu tejże postaci na obszarze Kurpiowszczyzny. Przytoczone zostały wybrane zwyczaje, podania, baśnie i legendy ludowe z obecną tam postacią anioła i omówieniu poddano rolę, jaką zazwyczaj on pełni w systemie wyobrażeń ludowych – od ról typowych i konwencjonalnych aż po funkcje wyłamujące się z kanonu chrześcijańskich wierzeń. Prześledzenie różnorodnych ról, jakie anioł spełnia w tradycji ludowej, każe traktować go jako stały i niezbywalny element ludowej wyobraźni.
The paper’s subject-matter is on the angel‘s motives in traditional folk imaginary that have for centuries been present in the Kurpie region culture. Various examples of regional habits, fairy-tales and legends in which a figure of angel is either central or derivative have been mentioned. The conventional (Christian) and uncoventional role of this figure has been construed. Critical analysis of the role of angels in the Kurpie folk tradition lets us state that the angel‘s motives are both indispensible and vivid characteristics of folk imaginary narration.

The article discusses main problems of implementing the PID control law in the FPGA integrated circuit. Consecutive steps of discretizing and choosing the fixed-point representation of the continuous, floating-point PID algorithm are described. The FPGA controller is going to be used in the active hetero-polar magnetic bearings system consisting of two radial and one axial bearings. The results of the experimental tests of the controller are presented. The dynamic performance of the controller is better when compared with the dSPACE controller, that was used so far. The designed hardware and software, the developed implementation procedure and the experience acquired during this stage of the whole project are going to be used during the implementation of more sophisticated control laws (e.g. robust) in the FPGA for AMB controllers.

Rotating shafts are important and responsible components of many machines, such as power generation plants, aircraft engines, machine tool spindles, etc. A transverse shaft crack can occur due to cyclic loading, creep, stress corrosion, and other mechanisms to which rotating machines are subjected. If not detected early, the developing shaft crack can lead to a serious machine damage resulting in a catastrophic accident. The article presents a new method for shaft crack detection. The method utilizes the coupling mechanism between the bending and torsional vibrations of the cracked, non/rotating shaft. By applying an external lateral force of a constant amplitude, a small shaft deflection is induced. Simultaneously, a harmonic torque is applied to the shaft inducing its torsional vibrations. By changing the angular position of the lateral force application, the position of the deflection also changes opening or closing of the crack. This chang/ es the way the bending and torsional vibrations are being coupled. By studying the coupled lateral vibration response for each angular position of the lateral force one can assess the possible presence of the crack. The approach is demonstrated with a numerical finite element model of a rotor. The results of the numerical analysis demonstrate the potential of the suggested approach for effective shaft crack detection.

The paper presents results of numerical analysis of AFM images of a surface of sandblasted Ti6Al7Nb alloys before and after wet etching procedure usually used for preparing commercially viable dental implants. Obtained results demonstrate that etching procedure efficiently cleans the implants as it leaves almost pure Ti-Al-Nb surface with trace amounts of alkali metals and increased hydrophobicity. Apart of that, it turned out that simple statistical measures of the height variations (root mean square roughness) only slightly change upon the treatment procedure, especially for scan lengths below 20 μm. On the other hand, correlation analysis exhibits bifractal surface patterns composed of regular residues left on otherwise helical ridges of the base material. Etching leaves its fingerprint in fractal dimension, but not in the corner frequency.
