Opis:
In the paper a method of eliminating of higher harmonics in the mains current using an active filter is presented. The current harmonics can be generate by nonlinear loads as a DC motor with a controlled rectifier, an induction motor fed from a PWM inverter and so an. The active filter that is proposed enables obtaining a sinusoidal waveform of a mains current at any changes of the load current. Results of investigations are presented involving waveforms of the nonlinear load current, the active filter current and she power grid current.

Opis:
Engagement and volunteerism are important issues in the area of Human Resource Management. Organized in Krakow in 2016, World Youth Days (WYD) exposed many phenomena related to these areas, creating an interesting research field. This paper identifies and explains the terminology and concepts existing in the literature that concern engagement and characterizes the volunteering issue in the context of Polish social reality. The article also contains selected findings of a survey conducted among World Youth Days volunteers. Based on it, this paper shows the characteristics of selected relationships and the social and demographic conditions of volunteerism in that specific research perspective. Research has shown that, within the volunteers’ groups, it is possible to use professional and modern management methods. Our findings lead to a set of suggestions for team leaders that have the potential of creating a higher level of engagement among participants and may enable better organizational management.

During the CELEBRATION 2000 experiment, the area of SE Poland was investigated by relatively dense system of deep seismic sounding profiles. Apart from five main profiles CEL01–CEL05, eight additional profiles were executed between the edge of the East European Craton and the Carphatians: CEL06, CEL11, CEL12, CEL13, CEL14, CEL21, CEL22 and CEL23. In this paper, we present results of modelling of refracted and reflected waves with use of a 2D ray tracing technique. All 13 profiles were jointly inter reted with verification of models at crossing points, and a quasi 3D model of the crust and upper mantle was developed. The obtained P-wave velocity models of the crust and uppermost mantle are very complex and show a differentiation of the seismic structure for tectonic units in SE Poland. The depth of the Moho discontinuity in the investigated area changes from about 30 to about 52 km. As a summary of all seismic models, the Moho depth map for SE Poland is presented, as well as a map of the extent of the most characteristic crustal elements in the area: a high velocity body in the upper crust, division into two- and three-layer consolidated crust, ranges of very deep layers with low velocities in the upper and middle crust, aproximate ranges of detected velocity anisotropy in the upper/middle crust, ranges of the high-velocity lower crust and high-velocity uppermost mantle. Both maps are com pared with the main struc tural el e ments from tec tonic map. This could form the base for a new geotectonic in ter pre ta tion of this com plex area.

In the paper is presented construction solution of a wind small power plant using synchronous micromachine with permanent magnets. It is assigned for charging batteries of rated voltage of 12 V. Batteries will be used for power supply of electrical radio equipment operating at great distance from power supply network. Due change of wind speed therefore great fluctuations of the output voltage in the system was used the voltage converter. This converter allows for output voltage stabilization at the level of approx. 14 V while generator voltage value changes from 7 to 30 V. The prototype of this equipment has been made and results of its tests have been presented.

Opis:
Numerical simulations of the gate leakage current in metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) structures based on the transfer matrix approach were carried out. They show contribution of different components of this current in MIS structures with best known high-k dielectrics such as Ta2O5 and TiO2. The comparison of the gate leakage current in MIS structures with SiO2 layer as well Ta2O5 and TiO2 layers is presented as well. Additionally, the minimum Si electron affinity to a gate dielectric which allows to preserve given level of the gate leakage current is proposed.

The Palaeoproterozoic collision of Archaean Fennoscandia, Volgo-Uralia and Sarmatia, viewed as a large composite of terranes, each with an independent history during Archaean and Early Proterozoic time, formed the East European Craton. This paper summarizes the results of deep seismic sounding investigations of the lithospheric structure of the southwestern part of the East European Craton. On the basis of the modern EUROBRIDGE’94–97, POLONAISE’97 and CELEBRATION 2000 projects, as well as of data from the Coast Profile and from reinterpreted profiles VIII and XXIV, the main tectonic units of Fennoscandia and Sarmatia are characterized. The crustal thickness in the whole area investigated is relatively uniform, being between 40 and 50 km (maximum about 55 km). For Fennoscandia, the crystalline crust of the craton can be generally divided into three parts, while in Sarmatia the transition between the middle and lower crust is smooth. For both areas, relatively high P-wave velocities ( 7.0 km/s) were observed in the lower crust. Relatively high seismic velocities of the sub-Moho mantle (~8.2–8.3 km/s) were observed along most of the profiles. The uppermost mantle reflectors often occur ca. 10 to 15 km below the Moho. Finally, we show the variability in physical properties for the major geological domains of Fennoscandia and Sarmatia, which were crossed by the network of our profiles.

Incoherent quasielastic neutron scattering spectra were measured for nematic para-azoxyanisole (PAA) and para-azoxyphenetole (PAP) with the energy resolution of ca. 30 μ eV, at Dubna IBR-2 reactor. Data processing contained a careful background subtraction and the multiple scattering correction. The corrected spectra were subjected to a reorientational model fitting procedure. For PAA, a model of two convoluted reorientations - that of benzene rings coupled with the terminals and that of the whole molecule around the long molecular axis - gave a fairly good description of the quasielastic neutron scattering spectrum. For PAP, introducing a third motion - interconformational jumps in the ethoxy terminals - in addition to motions suggested for PAA, gave a good agreement with the measured quasielastic neutron scattering spectrum.

The activities of extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERK1/ERK2) is required for proliferation of several types of cells. The performed analysis showed stimulation of ERK's by fetal calf serum (FCS) or fibronectin in the C3H 10T1/2 cell cultures at logarithmic phase of growth. The ERKs activity was not stimulated in confluent cells. This could not be accounted for a partial down regulation of ERK since its level was stable in both types of cells regardless of their density and kind of stimulation. Searching for ERK upstream elements we studied the integrin receptor gene transcript by RT-PCR and focal adhesion kinase (FAK) by Western blotting and phosphorylation assays. It was found that FCS and fibronectin stimulated phosphorylating activity of FAK in the cells at the logarithmic phase of growth, but were inefficient in the confluent cells. RT-PCR showed the presence of α5 and β1 integrin transcripts, and p125FAK was at the same level regardless of the type of stimulation. These data indicate that the ability of FAK to be activated plays an important role in ERK regulation and, in consequence in proliferation and growth inhibition during confluence.

Introduction: Tobacco smoking is still one of the greatest, avoidable, singular causes of death. Although students of medical faculties are expected to have solid knowledge about smoking hazards, a significant number of them still smoke. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess knowledge on tobacco dependence in a sample of students at the Medical University in Wroclaw. Material and methods: Between 2009-2011, non-compulsory lectures on the diagnosis and treatment of tobacco dependence were provided for 3rd to 6th year students of medicine at the Medical University in Wroclaw (170 students). The questionnaire contained 10 questions about smoking-related diseases and medicines used in tobacco dependence treatment. Results: 21% of students smoked cigarettes and 79% were never smokers. 36% of the study group was exposed to passive smoking at the university. Nearly 80% of survey respondents agreed with the statement that cigarette smoking can lead to psychological addiction as strong as drug addiction, but more than 12% of the respondents perceived smoking just as a strong habit. Only 6 out of 10 surveyed students recognised tobacco dependence as an illness classified in an international classification of diseases and health problems (ICD-10). The correct amount of the chemical substances to be found in tobacco smoke was known by 67.1% of all surveyed students. The vast majority of the surveyed students indicated correctly 2 brands of nicotine replacement therapy, but none of them could name even one chemical and corresponding trade name of the pharmaceutical with central effect. Conclusions: The level of knowledge about the diagnosis and treatment of tobacco dependence among the students of the Medical Faculty in Wroclaw Medical University is low, and requires improvement through educational activities at both facultative and compulsory study level. Special attention should be paid to pharmaceutical treatment of the tobacco dependence syndrome.
