    In contemporary computer systems security issues are very important for both safety and reliability reasons thus application of appropriate cryptographic methods is a necessity in system design and maintenance. This paper deals with one such method – BLAKE hash function – and investigates its implementation in hardware. The algorithm was a candidate proposed for the SHA-3 contest and, although it was not selected in the final round as the winner, it was very well received for its cryptographic strength and performance, being still used as a hash method of choice in contemporary IT systems. In this paper we discuss a specific modification in hardware realizations of the function which eliminates need for involved data paths distributing message bits among the round units by using auxiliary memory modules for repetitive storage of the message inside each round instance. The idea was implemented in realizations of both BLAKE and BLAKE2 versions of the algorithm in four different organizations: the standard iterative one and three high-speed loop-unrolled architectures with 2, 4 and 5 rounds instantiated in hardware. Together with standard (without RAM) implementations this produced a total of 16 test cases: after implementation in a popular Spartan-3 device from Xilinx their parameters allowed for exhaustive evaluation of the proposed modification. The results reveal that the modification outstandingly enhances size of all the tested architectures: on average, occupation of the FPGA array is reduced at least by half while the improvements in speed, although not so spectacular, are also visible. Additional analyses indicate that the method can also increase overall efficiency of routing, helps in implementation of the loop-unrolled architectures and strengthens optimizations introduced by the BLAKE2 version of the algorithm.

    The paper discusses the connection between Olga Tokarczuk’s novel Drive Your Plow over the Bones of the Dead and the poetry of William Blake. Blake’s ideology was to show how mankind had come to the end because of its misdeeds, using the animal imagery, which links him to the topic presented by Tokarczuk, criticizing the cruelty of the authorities towards animals. She quoted Blake at the beginning of every chapter and created a character skilled in translating Blake. Since not much of Blake’s oeuvre has been translated in Macedonian, the translator of this novel had to deal with translating Blake too. Consequently, this text also focuses on the translation problems which she had to solve.

    William Blake’s annotations to the first volume of “The Works of Sir Joshua Reynolds” prove an excellent and at the same time fascinating source of knowledge about his views on art. They depict Blake as a rebel against the established rules in English artistic life of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The poet identifies their origin in the beliefs and artistic policies of the first President of the Royal Academy, Sir Joshua Reynolds. This article, a commentary to the translated version (in the same volume) of “Annotations”, at its core primarily attempts to highlight theoretical and artistic issues, but does not shy away from biographical, social and political topics necessary to an understanding of Blake’s artistic and personal views. Relations between the two adversaries, strained ever since Blake’s studies at the Royal Academy in the first half of the 1780s, took on a mythical character of enmity after Reynolds’ death. Blake was the first to criticize the highly regarded Seven Discourses on Art by Reynolds, where - not always fairly – he saw proof of theoretical contradictions and the decline of art. The clash between Reynolds’ aesthetic rationalism and empiricism and Blake’s mysticism precluded the possibility of agreement. All this does not mean, however, that the dispute between Blake and Reynolds was free of paradoxes and ambiguities and that his mind was completely detached from the academicism and classicism of official English art. On the contrary. This article tries to show that, like any radical rebel, Blake largely belonged to the world from which he tried to break away, that his art grew out of 18th-century categories and can best be understood as such.

    Butter and Rotten Wood / a Teardrop: Blake and the Philosophy of Friendship Abstract in English The essay sets out to explore the framework of the philosophy of friendship as a basic human relationship whose richness has not been exhaustively scrutinised yet. Taking as its starting point the memorable statement from “The Marriage of Heaven and Hell that” “opposition is true friendship,” the author seeks to demonstrate the fundamental and profound character of the relationship called friendship; the character which prevents it - despite its common understanding - from being defined as agreement, support or alliance. Friendship, by transcending those relationships, becomes a force which may disrupt and undermine their structures and thereby it comes to speak on behalf of desires and passions. This is why it may be called a “counter-relationship”: the notion itself alludes to a fundamental term of Blake's philosophy, i.e., “a contrary” as opposed to negation. A friend is thus a restless being; a being without a permanent address; a being who is nomadic and denies to be unequivocally defined. It is Blake, as well as Nietzsche and Emerson (who are also referred to in the essay), who makes us appreciate this extraordinary philosophical and ethical phenomenon.

    BLAKE is a cryptographic hash function proposed as a candidate in SHA-3 contest where he successfully qualified to the final round with other 4 candidates. Although it eventually lost to KECCAK it is still considered as a suitable solution with good cryptographic strength and great performance especially in software realizations. For these advantages BLAKE is commonly selected to be a hash function of choice in many contemporary IT systems in applications like digital signatures or message authentication. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate how the algorithm is suitable to be implemented in hardware using low-cost Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) devices, particularly to test how efficiently its complex internal transformations can be realized with FPGA resources when overall size of the implementation grows substantially with multiple rounds of the cipher running in parallel in hardware and capacity of the configurable array is used up to its limits. The study was made using the set of 7 different architectures with different loop unrolling factors and with optional application of pipelining, with each architecture being implemented in two popular families of FPGA devices from Xilinx. Investigation of the internal characteristic of the implementations generated by the tools helped in analysis how the fundamental mechanism of loop unrolling with or without pipelining works in case of this particular cipher.

Próbuję w pełni zinterpretować „Zatrute drzewo” napisane przez Williama Blake’a. Analiza opiera się na założeniach Teorii Metafory Pojęciowej. Odwołuję się także do poznawczej koncepcji emocji (Lakoff, Kövecses, Johnson). Wspomniano także o modelu kategoryzacji Rosha. Za Langackerem zakładałam, że znaczenia językowe mają charakter indywidualny i zależą od doświadczeń autora.
    The aim of the article is to demonstrate that cognitive linguistic methodologies can provide a basis for analyses of literary and poetical works. I attempt to fully interpret A Poison Tree written by William Blake. The analysis is based on the beliefs of the Theory of Conceptual Metaphor. I also refer to cognitive conception of emotions (Lakoff, Kӧvecses, Johnson). Rosh’s model of categorization has also been mentioned. I assumed, among others, after Langacker that linguistic meanings are individual in character and dependent on the author’s experiences.

    The essay proposes a reinterpretation and revaluation of Henry Blake Fuller’s 1919 novel Bertram Cope’s Year and argues that it deserves permanent currency within the canon of gay fiction. My reinterpretation and revaluation of it is based on the premise that readings of it over the past 50 years (since Edmund Wilson’s 1970 essay on Henry Blake Fuller’s fiction in the New Yorker) have failed to understand its representation of homosexuality. Criticism of the novel has been based on post-Stonewall assumptions of what a 'gay novel’ should be and what cultural work is should perform. The post-Stonewall paradigm of the gay novel is that it is a coming-of-age story, a Bildungsroman, focused on a protagonist who, through a process of self-discovery, arrives at an acceptance and affirmation of his sexual identity. The prototype is Edmund White’s A Boy’s Own Story, with E. M. Forster’s Maurice a precursor. To appreciate Bertram Cope’s Year, we must, I argue, abandon post-Stonewall presuppositions of what we should expect from a gay novel. Bertram Cope’s Year is not a coming-of-age novel. Rather it is a comic novel formed from Fuller’s successful fusion and subversion of the romantic comedy, the comedy of manners, and the campus novel. Bertram Cope is a comic hero who ultimately triumphs over the efforts of a college town, presided over the matchmaking socialite Medora Phillips, to marry him to one of the three young ladies in her circle. He is rescued from this unwanted marriage by his boyfriend, who arrives to save him from the unwanted marriage. Fuller successfully exploits the conventions of the comic novel to tell a story that anticipates one of the aspirations of the gay liberation movement half a century later. As such, it deserves permanent currency.

    Problem określania energii należy do jednych z głównych i nierozwiązanym w pełni problemem mechaniki kruszenia. Jest to konsekwencją wielkiej złożoności procesów rozdrabniania (kruszenia i mielenia). W tej sytuacji wiarygodną metodą wyznaczania tej wielkości pozostają badania doświadczalne procesów elementarnych i maszynowych. Przedmiotem pracy jest wyznaczanie energii globalnej i jej składowych - energii nieodwracalnej i sprężystej - w procesach kruszenia dwóch skał krajowych w kruszarce dźwigniowej Blake'a. Podstawę obliczeń stanowiły zależności: siła w przedniej płycie rozporowej i jej przemieszczenie, tzw. pętle pola pracy. Otrzymano nieznane dotąd wyniki o istotnym znaczeniu poznawczym i praktycznym.
    Determination of energy consumption is the main and unsolved problem of the crushing mechanics. The fact comes as the consequence of great complications of comminution processes (crushing, milling). For this reason the experimental studies of the elementary and machine processes appear as the approved methods for definition of the crushing energy. The present work is addressed to estimation of the global energy as well as its components - dissipation and elastic energy - necessary for crushing two domestic rocks in Blake lever crusher. The following values were assumed as the calculation base: force acting upon the front toggle plate and its displacement, represented by energy loops. New data for scientific and engineering applications were obtained.

    Unlike other famous Romantics, William Blake does not glorify Satan as an embodiment of such concepts as liberty, independence and freethinking. In the following article an attempt will be made to see how in Blake’s poetry and painting the figure of Satan becomes associated with rationalism and the notion of misguided creativity. In this aspect Satan is consistently identified with Urizen, Blake’s personification of the fallen human reason and the creator of the material universe. This identification functions as a critique of empiricism and rationalism characteristic for the Age of Reason.

    Despite an increase of academic activity directed at sport coaching it continues to lack conceptual frameworks that address the complex realities of the coaching environment. Present practice largely rejects the proliferation of research regarding inadequacies of traditional methods for enhancing athlete learning. Dominant coaching practices forego recognition of the complex responsibilities that a coach has within the cognitive, social, cultural and moral, dynamics of the coaching environment. This article argues that first and foremost a coach is an educator. Given this role, sport coaching needs to develop and align itself with more contemporary developments in education. In this alignment, conceptual frameworks need to be developed. In this development, two questions immediately need to be addressed. First, if the coach is an educator what content can they draw from to educate the athlete in a holistic sense? Second, ‘what pedagogy/pedagogies will enhance this content delivery in order to maximise holistic athlete development?’ Drawing on the supportive arguments of scholars it is suggested that Olympism provides a useful content related coaching framework. In addressing the second question it is suggested that a pedagogical constructivist framework utilizing psychological, social and critical components of constructivism provides the ‘best of constructivist worlds’ The conceptualisation of the two frameworks; An Olympism based content framework and a synthesised constructivist pedagogical framework gives due focus to an overall coaching framework that is educative, engaging and moving coaching in a more professional direction. It consolidates the coach as educator in an environment which is progressive, educationally sustainable and with a strong focus on meaning-making, reflection and reciprocity.

    This paper examines self-fashioning in Aleksandar Hemon’s “Everything,” a story about a Sarajevo teenager’s journey through ex-Yugoslavia to the Slovenian town of Murska Sobota. His aim? “[T]o buy a freezer chest for my family” (39). While in transit, the first-person narrator imagines himself a rogue of sorts; the fictional journey he takes, meanwhile, is clearly within the quest tradition. The paper argues that “Everything” is an unruly text because by the end of the story the reader must jettison the conventional reading traditions the quest narrative evokes. What begins as a comic tale about a minor journey opens out, in the story’s final lines, into a story about larger historical concerns, namely, the Yugoslav wars of the 1990s. By introducing contemporary history, Hemon points beyond the closed world of his short story, while rejecting the quest pattern he has established.

    Główną tezą, którą przedstawiam w swoim artykule, jest twierdzenie o wyjątkowej roli idei imaginacji w rozwoju romantycznej duchowości, której kontynuację stanowi duchowość kontrkultury oraz New Age (o istnieniu związków między romantyzmem i New Age pisali między innymi Hans Sebald, Paul Heelas czy Wouter Hanegraaff). Na znaczenie idei imaginacji dla romantyzmu zwracał szczególną uwagę Renę Wellek. Traktuję romantyzm jako okres, w którym dokonała się daleko idąca reinterpretacja zachodniej tradycji ezoterycznej, w tym także idei imaginacji, którą Antoine Faivre zalicza do centralnych idei zachodniej tradycji ezoterycznej. W artykule poddaję krótkiej charakterystyce romantyczne rozumienie imaginacji, głównie odwołując się do twórczości Williama Blake'a. Szczególną uwagę zwracam na znaczenie Blake'a dla kontrkultury oraz New Age. Na jego twórczość powoływali się „prorocy" kontrkultury: Aldous Huxley czy Theodore Roszak, a nazwa tak ważnego dla kontrkultury zespołu muzycznego „The Doors" zaczerpnięta została z utworu Huxleya Drzwi percepcji. Śledząc losy idei imaginacji w kontrkulturze oraz New Age, zwracam zarazem uwagę na proces banalizacji, któremu została poddana ta idea, wprowadzona w obszar popkultury.

    Heteromorphic achenes are formed within each capitulum of Galinsoga ciliata (Rafin) S.F. Blake. We examined (1) the effects of the duration of dry storage on germination and (2) the effect of burial in soil on viability and germination of heteromorphic diaspores. Fresh harvested peripheral achenes remained dormant, while central achenes germinated at 60%. Both achene types became non-dormant after one month of dry storage. In successive months of dry storage, peripheral achenes demonstrated a higher germination percentage than central achenes. The peripheral and central achenes showed similar temperature requirements during dry storage. A similar germination pattern was observed in both achene types, with a germination peak in March (96% of peripheral achenes at 12, 26 and 34oC; 90% of central achenes at 26 and 34oC). The germination capacity deteriorated over time. After 19 months of dry storage, both achene morphs failed to germinate at 12oC. At a 26o and 34oC, the same group of achenes continued to germinate at a relatively high level. After six and seven months of soil storage, 90-95% of both achene types remained alive. Dimorphic achenes were characterized by similar germination percentage (89-99%) at all temperature intervals, whereas peripheral achenes exhumed in May were the fastest to germinate. After 18 months of storage in soil (successive growing season), most of the harvested achenes were dead. The studied achenes did not form a permanent seed bank.

    The shaggy soldier [Galinsoga ciliata (Rafin) S. F. Blake], family Asteraceae] is an invasive species that poses a growing threat to crop production. This annual plant produces heteromorphic achenes in a capitulum type inflorescence. The objective of this study was to compare selected morphological and phenological parameters and the success of generative reproduction in plants developed from peripheral and central achenes of the capitulum. The somatic variability of G. ciliata diaspores contributed to differences in the growth rates, development and fertility of the resulting populations. The progeny of central diaspores developed at a slower rate than the individuals derived from peripheral achenes, but at the end of their life cycle, the offspring of dimorphic achenes formed homogenous groups as regards height values. On average, the initial phenophases of G. ciliata plants derived from central achenes began one day later, and they entered the flowering stage eight days later than the individuals developed from peripheral seeds. At the initial growth stage (experimental day 65 to 83), the progeny of central achenes produced fewer capitula. On day 133, the individual fertility of the plants derived from central diaspores was 10% higher on average in comparison with the offspring of peripheral achenes.

    The purpose of the paper is to use the concept of postsecularism to interpret some selected themes of the British and German Romanticism. Postsecularism is here understood in the sense given to this term by Jürgen Habermas, as a thought which: 1) takes Western secularization to be largely an accomplished fact, but at the same time: 2) claims that religion is an important source of meanings suitable for the secularized public sphere of (post)modern societies. The main contention of the paper is that one can find the roots of the postsecular thought thus understood in the period of Romanticism, in the works of such authors as William Wordswort, William Blake or Novalis. The Romantics assume that the main Christian intuitions, symbols or themes may be “saved”, but only within a highly idiosyncratic and heterodox conceptual framework.

    The purpose of this thesis is to present, discuss and interpret the thanatological motifs and themes in William Blake’s poem “Vala, or the Four Zoas”, regarded as crucial in understanding his extraordinary vision of the world, the concept of "The Fall" and salvation. The analysis comprises the following ideas and characters of Blake’s my-thology: “Eternal Death”, symbolizing dying and the watery kingdom of Tharmas, “ressurection in death”, dissolution of Four Zoas and separation from their female Emanations. The article was enriched with illustrations by William Blake depicting various images of death with the reference to his literary works such as: “For the Sex-es: The Gates of Paradise” or “Jerusalem. The Emanation of the Giant Albion”.

    At present, a debate in the paleontologic literature focuses on whether or not the immediate ancestry of the Crinoidea lies in an unidentified member of the Blastozoa, which includes eocrinoids and an assemblage known variously as the “cystoids”. Those proposing to derive crinoids from within the blastozoans have recently argued for homologies in the construction of the oral region of certain derived taxa from both groups. An opposing viewpoint, outlined here, finds evidence that aside from plesiomorphies, proposed similarities are superficial and homoplastic. We suggest these superficialities represent convergent adaptive strategies. Earliest crinoids express ambulacral traits unlike any blastozoan but that are expressed in the only other pentaradial echinoderms with a known record early enough to be considered in the context of crinoid origins, edrioasteroids and edrioasteroid-like stem echinoderms.

    Hardware implementations of cryptographic algorithms are ubiquitous in contemporary computer systems where they are used to ensure appropriate level of security e.g. in high-speed data transmission, authentication and access control, distributed cloud storage, etc.. In this paper we evaluate size and speed efficiency of FPGA implementations of selected popular cryptographic algorithms in the newest cost-sensitive Spartan-7 devices form Xilinx, Inc.. The investigated set of algorithms included four examples: the AES-128 standard symmetric block cipher, the BLAKE-256 hash function and two size variants of the KECCAK-f[b] compression function, b = 400 and 1600, with the larger variant being used as the core of the new SHA-3 standard. The main aim of this research was to provide a uniform and comparable implementation approach for all the ciphers so that the new potentials of the Spartan-7 internal architecture would be put to the test in realization of their specific cryptographic transformations and data distribution. Each of the four algorithms was implemented in five architectures: the basic iterative one (with one instance of the cipher round instantiated in hardware) plus two loop unrolled ones (with two and four or five rounds in hardware) and their two pipelined variants (with registers at the outputs of each round enabling parallel processing of multiple streams of data). Uniform implementation methodology applied to 20 cases of cipher & architecture combinations created a consistent testbed, producing comparable results which allowed to evaluate efficiency of the new hardware platform in implementation of the different algorithms in various unrolled and pipelined organizations.

    В 1990 г. Станислав Баранчак предложил переводить текст и рассматривать перевод с учетом его „семантической доминанты”. Проанализировав несколько стихотворных переводов с английского на польский язык он дал свои польские варианты этих текстов, среди которых был и перевод стохотворения Вильяма Блейка The Tyger. В статье Tyger, Tygrys и Тигр - дикий зверь и его создатели-созидатели предлагается анализ перевода этого же стихотворения на русский язык (перевод Самуила Маршака), в контексте сохранения „семантической доминанты”, которую для данного текста С. Баранчак определил как „симметрию ужаса”. В заключение Автор дает свой перевод произведения английского поэта на польский язык.

    In the present article I intend to explore chosen images of nature in selected poetical works by William Blake, William Wordsworth, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Alfred Tennyson and Matthew Arnold, in order to trace significant shifts in their use of natural imagery. While in Romantic poetry, in general, images from nature are used to portray spiritual experience of finding comfort and sustenance in communing with nature, or, alternatively, a sense of being overwhelmed in the face of an omnipotent power, Victorian poems register deep uneasiness and a fear of nature, which has nothing to do with the experience of the sublime. This shift can be attributed, at least in part, to ground-breaking scientific discoveries and overwhelming technological progress in Victorian England, which resulted in confusion and disquiet as far as basic existential issues (the existence of God, the relation between God and man, the origin of the universe) were concerned.

    A new genus and species of Asteroidea (Echinodermata), Estoniaster maennili, is described from the Upper Ordovician (Caradocian) of Estonia; it is similar to the western European genus Platanaster and the North American Lanthanaster and an as yet unpublished new genus. Specimens of Urasterella? sp. and Cnemidactissp. are recognized from the Middle Ordovician of northwest Russia; although similar to known species, incomplete preservation precludes more precise taxonomic assessment. Asteroids are important in many existing marine communities, and in spite of a meager fossil record, diversity suggests they were important in the early Paleozoic as well. Some debate has centered on arm flexibility in early asteroids, which bears on their roles in their communities. Parallels in ambulacral series arrangement between Ordovician and extant species and presence of an ambulacral furrow indicate similar broad ranges of motion and therefore potentially parallel ecologic roles. Many factors might have contributed to the differences between ancient and extant ambulacral articulation, including changes in positioning of a part of the water vascular system, changes in predation and bioturbation pressures, and taphonomic events that obscure skeletal details.

    The dense plasma focus (DPF) is one of the most efficient sources of fusion reactions for a given energy input. For smaller DPFs, fusion output scales as I4 or faster, where I is peak current. However, energy output in high-current machines saturates at 1012 reactions with deuterium as fill gas. To attempt to overcome this saturation, experiments at the focus fusion-1 (FF-1) facility have tested the use of smaller-radius electrodes (2.8 cm radius anode) and higher fill-gas densities more than 30 T.

    Eemian (Murava, Merkinė deposits at five exposed sections (Zaslavl, Zhukevichi, Ponemun, Snaigupėlė, and Netiesos) located in Lithuania and Belarus are described. Preliminary palaeomagnetic results show a record of the Brunhes epoch normal magnetic field and a short-term reversal – the Blake Event – is recognized in three of the five sections. The Blake Event recorded in the Netiesos section is characterized by a pattern consisting of three short reversed polarity intervals separated by two short normal polarity intervals. The directional changes of declination, inclination, and MS (magnetic susceptibility) are clear. ESR dating (112.5 ±10.8 and 112.1 ±25.9) and 230Th/U dates obtained from this section (108.8 ±12.0/9.9 ka for the L/L technique and 100.2 ±10.3/8.6 ka for the TSD technique) suggest that (Blake and post-Blake) palaeomagnetic excursions are present in this section. Palaeobotanical analysis and isotope dating of the Netiesos section suggest that the Blake Event occurred during the climatic optimum.

    Jacek Izydor Fisiak was born on May 10, 1936 in Konstantynów Łódzki and passed away on June 3, 2019 in Poznań, Poland. Eighty-three years of life is usually treated as a fairly long period of time, but if we take into account not only the passage of time itself but also the intensity of filling the events of this period with content, only then can we – but all the time only with some approximation – reflect on the real phenomenon of Professor Jacek Fisiak’s life and work. This phenomenon is perfectly reflected in the travesty, light in form but deep in content, of one of the most famous poems in the English-speaking world by one of the pre-Raphaelite artists, William Blake, entitled The Tiger. Blake's poem was adapted to reflect the spirit of Professor Fisiak – a man of unquenchable thirst for action – by Professor Tomasz P. Krzeszowski, a friend and the first doctor of humanities promoted by Professor Jacek Fisiak.     Opis:
    The Classical and other long-term experiments at Rothamsted Experimental Station illustrate the causes and effects of soil acidification. One hundred and fifty years of precipitation measurements show how atmospheric deposition has increased, causing acidification of grassland and woodland soils. Where applied, ammonium fertilisers cause very rapid acidification unless their effects are offset by the application of lime. Acidification causes the mobilisation and removal by leaching of base cations to be replaced by aluminium, manganese or iron, the reduction of base saturation and, in the long-term, the reduction of cation exchange capacity by the weathering of clay minerals. Mobilised toxic metals are taken up by vegetation growing on the acidified soils. Some plots of the Park Grass Experiment have acidified to sufficiently to cause the release of aluminium to be taken up in hay in amounts toxic to cattle - a Chemical Time Bomb.

    The available description of mechanics of crushing process in double toggle Blake crushers, presented in literature and applied in practice, in general, is an approximated description which usually needs verification. Wide experimental studies were carried out at a modern test stand including model crusher of Blake type, measuring and control-register system. The results enabled to formulate new approach to mechanics of crushing processes, mainly focused on: load distribution in working space, friction conditions in working space, crushing energy and verification of energy hypotheses, deformation of toggle mechanism components. The results obtained in the studies formulate the base for theoretical analysis of the mechanics of the process.

    Marek Chlanda’s sketch Cosmos – Tango of Death was created as a picture of the artist’s yearning for sense. This sketch and the triptych are based on the photo from 1942 taken at the extermination camp in Janowska Street in Lvov. The photo shows a circle of musicians-prisoners, who play the Tango of Death on the SS-men’s order. The sketch quite accurately repeats the ‘composition’ of the photo. Here an artist puts the viewers in the face of the literal and metaphorical understanding of the marginal: the group of musicians is situated in the center of the drawing, but the margins of this work are filled with the artist’s notes. My reflections do not concern marginalization in general, but the marginalization of the artist and art on the brink of life, indirectly and probably briefly involved in the machinery of extermination. I want to reflect on the incredibility of the existence of art during the Holocaust. I analyze how contemporary artist tries to penetrate into that special event, through the thought and premonition of future, provoked by William Blake’s poems and drawings. The black and white photograph, which presents a group of musicians playing the Tango of Death is literally a representation of a segment of the circle of the camp orchestra, whose remaining fragment, invisible in the photograph, is located off the frame. On the other hand – it is symbolic because it documents the existence of this odd orchestra in the death camp and factually depicts its membership.
    Szkic Marka Chlandy Kosmos. W 2005 roku, na podstawie zdjęcia wykonanego przez anoni-mowego fotografa w obozie zagłady we Lwowie (1942) oraz szkicu (Kosmos), Chlanda nama-lował tryptyk Studium bezdźwięczności. Dziesięć rysunków to ‘wizualny list’, linia metafory-zująca biografię twórcy. Spośród dziesięciu szkiców skupiam się na jednym. To ósmy rysunek Kosmos – Tango śmierci – w powiązaniu z Williamem Blakiem. Na przykładzie fotografii, jed-nego szkicu i jednego obrazu przestawiam, w jaki sposób na marginesie życia i śmierci istniała sztuka i jej twórcy. Fotografia przedstawia grupę muzyków grających Tango śmierci, jest ona dosłownym wyobrażeniem – z jednej strony – wycinka kręgu obozowej orkiestry, której pozo-stała, niewidoczna na fotografii, część ‘znalazła’ się poza kadrem, na marginesie tej sceny; z drugiej – symbolicznym ukazaniem ich egzystencji poza marginesem życia, a jednocześnie na marginesie śmierci. Odbiorca staje wobec dosłownego i metaforycznego rozumienia margi-nesu: grupa muzyków mieści się w centrum rysunku, ale marginesy tej pracy zapełnione są licznymi notatkami artysty. Te zapiski ‘organizują’ kompozycję. Tekst ten dotyczy artysty i sztuki, które znalazły się na marginesie, na krawędzi istnienia, pośrednio wprzężone w ma-chinę Zagłady. Zasadniczą treścią tekstu jest namysł nad nieprawdopodobieństwem istnienia sztuki i funkcjonującej na marginesie życia oraz wskazanie tego, jak współczesny artysta stara się wniknąć w tamto szczególne doświadczenie, poprzez myśl Williama Blake’a.

    Amerykański trapista i pisarz religijny Tomasz Merton jest autorem Siedmiopiętrowej góry, Posiewu kontemplacji, Wspinaczki ku prawdzie, Nowego człowieka oraz wielu innych pozycji z dziedziny duchowości. Jest on również dociekliwym myślicielem, który porównuje filozofię scholastyczną ze współczesnym egzystencjalizmem. W Domniemaniach współwinnego świadka podejmuje polemikę z Heideggerowską koncepcją śmierci. Merton rozpatruje to zagadnienie z punktu widzenia chrześcijańskiej aksjologii. Czymś nielogicznym jest dla niego dogmat egzystencjalizmu: idea „śmierci Boga”. Całą jego twórczość spina polemika z anglikańskim teologiem, zainspirowanym filozofią Fryderyka Nietzschego, Thomasem Altizerem. Merton pokazuje tu, w jaki sposób teologia bazująca na Objawieniu oraz teologia naturalna są nośnikami poznania egzystencjalnego, w sensie scholastycznym jako rozpoznanie Istnienia. Z niego wynika świadomość dobra moralnego jako uczestnictwa w istnieniu Boga, Dawcy dobra. W świetle tego poznania koncepcja „śmierci Boga” jest czymś nieprawdopodobnym.
    Thomas Merton, the American Trappist monk and religious writer, is the author of The Seven Storey Mountain, Seeds of Contemplation, The Ascent to Truth, the New Man and many other works in the field of spirituality. He is also an analytical thinker comparing scholastic philosophy with modern existentialism. In Conjectures of a guilty bystander he takes up a polemic with the Heideggerian concept of death. Merton examines this issue from the point of view of Christian axiology. The dogma of existentialism is something illogical to him: the idea of “the death of God”. His entire work is linked to a polemic with Thomas Altizer, an Anglican theologian inspired by the philosophy of Fryderyk Nietzsche. Merton shows how theology of Revelation and natural theology are carriers of existential cognition, in the scholastic sense as the recognition of Existence. From it comes the awareness of moral goodness as participation in the existence of God, the giver of good. In the light of this recognition, the concept of “God’s death” is something unlikely.
