Today world’s challenges, which appear in XXI century are significant and different than before. The society is divided between 20% of these, who have benefits from changes and 80% of these, who are in danger. It’s hard to find solution of this situation. Educational paradigm is kind of this. In order to rebuild bases of universal education, we should state values and qualities, which we prefer. The most important, as Jacek Kuroń said, is activity, which help the poorest people. It’s not in order to injure strong ones, but in order to make everyone strong. Educational process should be trying to reach the goal of creating one world. Even if divided, still one. We should aim to make every little element (like local community) influencing the rest. That, what happens in this little element, seems to be up to us.

Opis:
The principal function of science is striving for knowledge; cognitive aims and values identified by methodology should serve this function. Critical rationalist K. Popper pointed to ever better explanations of phenomena as the aim of science. Apart from the causal explanation by means of natural laws, functional (e.g. in biology) and intentional explanations (e.g. in psychology) are possible, as well. According to some authors (Elster, Grobler), the functionalism in the social sciences is based on an analogy with the biological evolution. Attempts to give intentional explanations disclose the great complexity of cultural and social interpersonal interactions. Besides, the explanation of phenomena takes different forms depending upon the type represented by a particular domain of science. In the 20th-century philosophy of science, one can distinguish four main currents: logical, methodological, historical and sociological; the function and the aims of science were presented within these currents in different ways. I illustrate this diversity by an example of possible interpretations of the discovery of DNA structure. Subsequently, I refer to the position of N. Koertge – an American supporter of Popperian approach – who rightly resists claims that non-cognitive values should be included in science into the context of justification. At the end, I remind K. Ajdukiewicz’s views on the topic of the aims of science.

Autor przedstawia technologię udostępniania map przez internet za pomocą serwera AIMS. Praktycznym zastosowaniem systemu jest Internetowy Atlas Polski IGiPZ PAN.
Since spring 2006, Internet Atlas of Poland is available under http://maps.igipz.pan.pl/atlas address. The Atlas is public, free cartographic resource with over 100 socio-economic and environmental maps as well as Topographic Map of Poland with variable scale up to 1:100.000 and the Gazetteer with 44.000 settlement names. A softwere engine for whole project, developed in Department of Cartography at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization, Polish Academy of Sciences is AIMS (Aviso Internet Map Server). AIMS is IIS extension module featuring GIS vector map processing and raster map output. The solution is HTML compatible and independent of ASP, script languages and ActiveX.

The present paper is a contribution to inquiries concerning cognitive values and goals of science. It comprises four parts which are entitled as follows: philosophy of science and philosophy of wisdom; traditional ideal of scientific knowledge; hierarchical versus reticulated model of scientific rationality; realistic axiology of science. In all of these parts continuing controversies on the relevant theme between, in principle, scientific or critical realism and nonrealistic standpoints (e.g. instrumentalism, conventionalism, pragmatism) are exposed. The author claims that there are reasons to believe that the (approximative) truth is the dominant cognitive value to be achieved in science.

Wisdom might be, and quite often is, one of the most important purposes of education. At the same time, there is no clarity about the its meaning and relations to education. The goal of the article is to analyse the issue of wisdom as an educational goal, based on the classical meaning of the term ‘wisdom’ (Socrates, Plato, Aristotle), which still constitutes a paradigm in philosophical and educational considerations. The article is divided into three parts. Firstly, the theoretical and semantic aspects of wisdom are indicated. Secondly, practical possibilities of application of the idea of wisdom as an aim of education are discussed. At the end, the author points out the philosophical and semantic problems which make this idea hard to apply.

This subdiscipline of bioelectronics deals with electronic properties of biological microstructures (molecules, aggregates of them, and cellular substructures as well as their possible role in living systems. To realize this goal, two basically different approaches are feasible. The first one is to apply purely physical concepts and methods to reveal these properties and electronic phenomena, and the other one is to look for such units in biological systems that may function as elementary units of electronic devices (e.g. paths of electronic conduction, switchable elements, resonators, etc.).

Celem artykułu jest próba zakreślenia sfery badań filozoficznych zmierzających do zdefiniowania warunków adekwatnej definicji prawa. Autor jest zdania, że definicję tę uzyska się identyfikując określone cele i środki charakterystyczne dla prawa, poprzez które społeczny fenomen prawa się realizuje. Definicja ta ma być odpowiedzią na normatywizm w teorii prawa, to jest na próbę wyjaśnienia tego pojęcia za pomocą szczególnych środków używanych przez prawo (norm prawnych). Autor stara się wykazać, że to podejście nie tylko pełniej charakteryzuje prawo, ale także przyczynia się do lepszego zrozumienia powiązań pomiędzy prawem a etyką, moralnością, polityką i pozostałymi społecznym faktami konwencjonalnymi.
This article is an attempt at delimiting the area of philosophical research in order to define the conditions for an adequate definition of the law. This writer believes that this definition is achieved by identifying the particular aims and means which are set for the law and through which the social phenomenon of the law is realized. Assumedly, the definition is to be a response to the so-called normativism in the theory of law, that is, an attempt to explain the notion through the particular means (norms) used by the law. The writer tries to justify not only that his approach characterizes the law more fully, but also that it contributes to better understanding of the links between law and ethics, morality, politics or the remaining conventional social facts.

Przedstawiono istotę sieci innowacji i uwarunkowania ich działania, a także podstawy funkcjonowania sieci innowacji w rolnictwie i ich zakres. Celem artykułu jest wskazanie, że sieci innowacji są narzędziem kształtowania rozwoju i przemian strukturalnych zgodnie z kierunkami polityki innowacyjnej. Rozważania przeprowadzono na podstawie analizy literatury przedmiotu i dokumentów UE i Polski. Potwierdzono taką zależność, zwłaszcza w warstwie projektowania zmian.
The content of the paper consists of the following issues: essence of innovation networks and conditions of their functioning, basics activities of the innovation network in agriculture and their scope. The aim of the article was to show that innovation networks are a tool to shape the development and structural changes in accordance with the directions of innovation policy. The observations – based on the analysis of relevant literature, selected documents of the EU (including Poland) and the author’s own reflections – confirm this relationship, especially with regard to the preparation of changes, which sets out the following priority areas of innovation networks in agribusiness: increased agricultural productivity, output, and resource efficiency, innovation in support of the bio-based economy, biodiversity, ecosystem services, and soil functionality, innovative products and services for the integrated supply chain and also quality and safety of food.

The author who over 30 years has been leading the international team of the scholars investigating verse forms in various Slavic literatures, presents the results of the work, published till now in the eight volumes of the series Comparative Slavic Metrics. Each of these volumes contains the studies in the national languages of their authors as well as the chapter “Comparisons and conclusions”, written in two versions: Polish and English. First two volumes: I. Rhythmical Vocabulary and the Ways of Using it; and II. Syntactic Organization bring the results of work on the problems which have the fundamental meaning for versology, i.e. the relations between the verse system and the linguistic system. In the article the most important of the results are discussed (such practice is used in case of every subsequent volume). Beginning with volume III Semantics of the Verse Forms both the methods and aims of investigation changed to some extent. They concern analysis and interpretation of the sign functions fulfilled by the verse systems, in particular metres, types of rhyme, in the work of a given poet or in the framework of the whole period of the literary history. In volume IV. Verse of Translation one of the main problems is the search for the functional equivalent of the original form of verse. Volume V. Sonnet contains the characteristic of the prosodic and syntactic structure, the stylistic distribution and cultural connotations of the sonnet - the bort of stanza distinctly relating Slavic literatures with those of Western Europe. Volume VI. European Metres in Slavic Literatures can be regarded as the most recent development in the research o the main metres of given Slavic Literatures. The analyses of the metrical structures are accompanied there by the study of their origins and the role they play in the evolution of national poetry. In volume VII. Free Verse Its Origins and its Evolution up to the Year 1939 common and diverse features of this new verse form in various Slavic literatures are characterized, as well as the place of a free verse in most part of contemporary poetical programs and manifestos. Volume VIII. Short Native Metres contains the results of the work on the prosodic structure of these metres (including the analyses of their rhythmical variants) and on the aspects of their usage in poetry, both literary and popular. At present volume IX is in the process of preparation for publishing. Its topic is hexametre and other patterns of classical poetry in Slavic literatures. It comprises not only the results of the analyses of transformation of the classical verse forms into Slavic languages (together with their sign functions in literature and culture), but also the experiments with the imitation of the prosodic structures of ancient poetry in these languages.

The Council dealt with various conceptions of fines matrimonii. Some texts discuss this matter and some draw the right sense of expressions from descriptive formulations. The over-all vision of the ends of marriage was presented and considered within the frameworks of the Theological Commission, the Commission for the matters of Sacraments, and particularly within frameworks of the Mixed Commission along with its various subcommission. Initially the problems of marriage were dealt with in a perfunctory manner by preparatory commission. A special issue dovoted to the ends of marriage appeared as late as in the scheme prepared by the Theological Commission entitled „De castitate, virginitate, matrimonio, familia” (February1962). They were depicted there in accordance with the earlier teaching of the Church. It is in this scheme „The Dogmatic Constitution of the Church” that the personalistic end marriage was added. The aim being the sanctification of the spouses. The majority of discussions concerning fines matrimonii were carried out within the frameworks of the Mixed Commission and at the general assemblies during the third and fourth session of the Council. The matter under discussion was then the schemes of „The Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Contemporary World”. The Council did not change but supplemented the hitherto Church's teaching on the ends of marriage. It was expressed in a different, more personalistic language. The Council avoided as much as possible the technical terms, yet it included some new unchanging contents in new formulations. They are understandable for the average reader, and specialists who seek an answer to their precise and detailed questions must elicit appropriate contents from the descriptive formulations. The ends of marriage results from its nature, hence they cannot change all the time. The Church better and better recognizes these ends and defines them.

Opis:
Aluminium foams are a new group of materials used for impact energy absorbing elements. They are light (typically 10-25% of the density of the metal they are made of) and stiff, and are frequently proposed as a light weight structural material. That is why they often are applied in automotive and transport industry solutions, for example as parts of bumpers. The methods of numerical modelling for open and closed cell aluminium foams are presented in the paper as well as closed and open cellfoam microstructure model. The numerical models of foam ideal microstructures created with shell finite elements are shown. The models were developed on the basis of Kefain tetrakaidecahedrons - structures consisting of six squares and eight hexagons. In the case of closed cell foams, the polyhedron with full walls was adopted. In the case of open cell foams the circle wholes were removed from polyhedron surfaces. Then the numerical analysis of a created models compressive test was carried out with the usage of LS Dyna computer code. The nonlinear procedures were applied. The results were analyzed in the scope of energy absorbing properties of aluminium foams.

This short document describes general aims and development strategy of new social initiative called Club "Paragraf 34". Club "paragraph 34" concentrates on technical safety problems in polish industry under New Approach EU Directives conditions. Now, Club isn't association, but only group of people who need exchange information about safety of the machines. In future possibly Club will stay institution for build knowledge base about risk assessment and technical security. That time Club has more than 500 members.

Opis:
In 359, Šāpur II (r. 309-379) led his army against Rome. This campaign became a milestone for the balance of power in Romano-Iranian borderlands. After seventy three Šāpur succeeded in breaking through the defenses and in sacking the city of Amida. According to Ammianus Marcellinus long lasting, heroic defense of Amida saved the Roman cities of Cappadocia from sacking. The author of the article believes that Amida was initial and primary target of Šāpur’s campaign of 359 and the siege was not a result of coincidence of various events, factors and intentions not, as it is suggested by Ammianus Marcellinus.
