Opis:
Background: The aim of the article is to highlight the importance of mediation in resolving disputes in sports, which is, in the consideration of the Author, underestimated. bMaterials and Methods: The text is based on literature and articles that consider this method of ending conflicts, internet recognition, and the presentation of a hypothetical (based on the Nonviolent communication mediation model) case study. Conclusions: Mediation is not widely used in the process of resolving disputes in sports. There is no example of using a mediation model based on NVC in the Polish internet space. Mediations based on NVC can be treated as a possible and successful means of ending conflicts in sports. This area (mediation and mediation based on NVC) is worth more advanced research.

This paper presents how organisational communication, being an important component of organisational behaviour, can be researched from a linguistic perspective with the help of communication audits. Putting the linguistic viewpoint at the forefront means that apart from using established methods such as interviews and questionnaires, the communication auditor collects and analyses real-life oral and written texts produced by auditees. The paper showcases the results of linguistic research into the communication audit, such as the communication audit model and procedures additional to the linguistic form sheet. Following this the paper presents how these research findings may be utilised in teaching practice in order to familiarise students of linguistics with both organisational communication and organisational behaviour.

Opis:
The purpose of the present paper is to suggest a philosophical basis for reflection on the transmission model of communication. The article is a contribution to the discussion about the genesis of the concept of communication. It also attempts to specify the conditions that have to be met to identify the non-etymological genesis of transmission approach to the phenomenon of communication. The paper consists of four sections. The first one distinguishes between a ‘model of communication’ and an ‘approach to communication’. While the second section examines the etymological and historical genesis of the contemporary term ‘communication’, it particularly discusses two metaphors on which the transmission model of communication builds: the ‘organic’ and the ‘transmission’ metaphors. The third section considers the basic elements of the Shannon–Weaver model of communication which is generally regarded as the very source of all communication models. The fourth section delivers a presentation of a philosophical perspective on the genesis of the transmission approach: Plato’s Phaedros, Scholastic semiotics, Descartes’ cogito and Locke’s empiricism are covered here. The most important conclusion that is drawn here has it that the philosophical perspective on the genesis of the concept of communication makes it possible to show that the category of transmission is inadequate for a serious reflection on the communication process.

Opis:
The paper presents the mathematical basis of a new method for building probabilistic models of communication delays in wireless networks in the case if the sent data are not correct and have to be retransmitted. The method is based on using a delta function sequence to describe delays in retransmissions between a transmitter and a receiver [1, 2] under assumption that the access time of the transmitter is taken as random and described by a probability density function. The retransmissions are caused by passive or active external disturbances influencing the communication channel established in the wireless medium [3, 4, 5]. Theoretical considerations are illustrated by examples using both measured and simulated data.

Opis:
Departing from the cultural studies semiotic approach, this chapter seeks to analytically review shifis in roles of media users given increasingly participation-oriented media tools. Drawing upon the re-interpretation of Stuart Hall’s seminal encoding/decoding model of communication, the author proposes a theoretical concept of internet meme perceived as multiparticipant popular online content combining modalities of traditional (vertical and culture industryoriginated) and new (horizontal and peer-reproduced) modalities of media production and consumption. Thre author problematizes this concept by recontextualizing several aspects of Hall’s theory: 1) theoretical appropriation of four stages of Hall’s “chain of discourse” (messages’ production, circulation, use, reproduction) to a new — highly converged — media environment; 2) ambiguous status of internet meme’s authorship; 3) new contexts for analyzing internet memes, including: online pop-culture modalities, different strategies of “old” and “new” culture industries, Intellectual Property Rights policies.

Opis:
Model of the generic concept and structure of functional onomasticsTheoretical onomastics works with two dimensions of abstraction: a) focus on the research of highly abstracted properties of the individual elements of the proprial sphere of language, b) a more advanced type of abstraction represented by the analysis of the onomastics as a whole, i.e. the view of the discipline “from above”. The properties of the a) dimension are subordinated to the b) perspective. The theoretical research of the “whole” discloses the conceptual and functional characteristics of onomastics, while revealing its structure and system. The concept of “onomastics as a whole” operates with the so-called functional elements. Such elements determine the contents of onomastics as a Whole. Functional elements are always ordered in a determined logical sequence, creating thus the “model”. Besides the functional elements, the model is delimited by the principles of a system, dynamics and process orientation. Every element is rooted in and determined by the preceding element. The first element in the model is represented by the “the need of the society to use proprium in the naming process”, while the “use of the proprium in thecommunication process” constitutes the very last element. – The impact on the definition: the onomastics is an interdisciplinary sub-domain of linguistics about the social need to name individual objects (phenomena), about the materialization of this need with the use of language as well as about functionalities and role of the created proprium within all types of communication scenarios.
The aim of this article is to capture the basic knowledge pertaining to the general theory of onomastics and explain the two dimensions of onomastic abstraction: a) advanced abstraction of individual elements pertaining to proper names as a class, and b) onomastics as a “whole”, as an even more advanced type of abstraction. An aerial view of the subject is presented. Theoretical research of onomastics as a “whole” enhances the knowledge of its nature in terms of its conceptual and functional aspects as well as its structure. The concept of “onomastics as a whole” integrates elements (categories, functional elements) that determine the “contents” of onomastics as a “whole”. In the model of functional onomastics, they represent “functional elements”. Besides functionality, the model can also be characterised as systemic, dynamic, and processual. Each element in the model of functional onomastics results from the previous element, which determines it. The “society’s need for proper naming” represents the initial element in the chain that ends in the “use of the proper name in communication” element; the relationship between them can be described as “onomastics and language communication”. In conclusion, onomastics can be defined as an interdisciplinary sub-discipline of linguistics studying the social need to use individualised naming, its practical manifestations in a language as well as functions and position of individual proper names in all types of communication. This general definition applies to onomastics as a “whole”.

The traditional line-of-sight ultraviolet model cannot serve better for link performance study for the reason that the scattering characteristic is often ignored in the modelling process. Therefore, a line-of-sight ultraviolet bipyramid model in combination with transceiver full beam angles and geometrical relationship of the transceiver field of view intersection is established. The theoretical rationality of the bipyramid model in comparison with a traditional line-of-sight model is demonstrated by the classically analytical model for line-of-sight scenario. Based on a bit error rate requirement of voice communication, the effects of transmitting power versus range for three line-of-sight ultraviolet communication modes are further analyzed.

Even when information is complex and the information processing capacity of economic agents uncertain, noisy messages do not necessarily indicate bad news. I exploit this intuition to examine a simple sender – receiver persuasion game in which effective communication about the state of the world depends not only on the sender’s efforts but also on the complexity of that state and the receiver’s competence. In this environment, the sender-optimal equilibria maximise the amount of noise. The receiver faces a ”competence curse” whereby the smart types might end up with less information and a lower payoff than those who are somewhat less competent.

The localization of the capsule is needed to correlate the picture of detected anomalies with the particular fragment of intestine. For this purpose, the analysis of wireless transmission parameters can be applied. Such methods are affected by the impact of the human body on the electromagnetic wave propagation that is specific to the anatomy of individual person. The article presents the algorithm of localization of endoscopic capsules with wireless transmitter based on the detection of phase difference of received signals. The proposed algorithm uses simplified human body models that can change their dielectric properties in each iteration to improve the location of the capsule endoscope. Such approach allows to reduce localization error by around 12 mm (15%) and can by used for patients of different physique without the need of the numerical models of individual body.

Intercultural research in the area of communication was initiated in the early 20th century. Over the last few decades, researchers have built a solid theoretical basis in this field. Nowadays, intercultural analyses include a rich collection of texts on cross-cultural differences, the specificity of the phenomenon in the area of verbal and non-verbal communication and also the role of the media. There is no doubt that in an era of dynamic transformations of media use by people all over the world, the sub-discipline of intercultural communication is facing another challenge – that of including social media and network communication processes into new empirical theories and research. The article answers the question of the status of communication research in the field of the intercultural contexts of the new media. Additionally, the directions of future development of these studies and conclusions are discussed.

The paper describes a new method of embedding human communication in acoustic sequences mimicking animal communication. This is done to ensure a low probability of detection (LPD) transfer of covert messages. The proposed scheme mimics not only individual sounds, but also the imitated species’ communication structure. This paper presents a step forward in animal communication mimicry - from pure vocal imitation without regard for the plausibility of communication’s structure, through Zipf’s law-preserving scheme, to the mimicry of a known communication structure. Unlike previous methods, the updated scheme does not rely on third parties’ ignorance of the imitated species’ communication structure beyond Zipf’s law - instead, the new method enables one to encode information in a known zeroth-order Markov model. The paper describes a method of encoding an arbitrary message in a syntactically plausible, species-specific sequence of animal sounds through evolutionary means. A comparison with the previous iteration of the method is also presented.

The article aims to point to some issues in research on communication in a FL classroom where a transdisciplinary approach might prove useful or even necessary to address them. An expanded analysis of a classroom discussion carried out within Hymes’ model that includes different modes and forms of communication as well as aspects of on-goingly changing contexts should illustrate the benefits of applying a transdisciplinary approach in research on communication  in a second language classroom.
