Purpose: The general purpose of this paper is to present living labs as a new form of innovation activity based on the concept of user-driven innovation. More specifi c goals are to show the development of living labs around the world and to identify the possibilities for the development of this new form of innovation in Poland. Methodology: Because of the lack of offi cial statistics regarding the effects of living labs, this paper presents the quality aspects of the problem. Findings: In Poland, living labs are in their fi rst stage of life. The possibilities of using new forms of innovation activities are determined by partnerships between fi rms, research institutions, authorities and local communities. The main obstacle for the development of living labs is the lack of an institutional and legal framework with respect to the concept of user-driven innovation. Research limitations: Because of their short period of life, it is not possible to estimate the effects resulting from the activity of living labs. Therefore, this paper presents only the theoretical aspects of this new concept and reviews the opportunities of using it in practice. Originality: The paper describes a new phenomenon in the area of innovation activities. The added value of the paper lies in the identifi cation of various factors infl uencing the development of living labs.

In the case of mass segment they are mostly forums of ideas and task models based on communication on the Internet. In the segment of personal and private banking they apply prosumption. Secondary study in the form of critical analysis of literature and with the use of documentary research method is performed in the paper. The method of qualitative research – case study research that illustrates best practices is also applied.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is twofold. Firstly, an attempt is made to analyze the concept of open innovation and its determinants with particular regard to food industry. Secondly, an investigation of open innovation drivers is conducted, using a small-scale sample of Polish food firms. The sample consists of 15 food producers localized in the Lublin province. The Probit model has been used in the analyses. The results reveal that the level of technology and export orientation are the drivers of co-operation in innovation activities. In turn, expenditures on R&D and employees’ training reduce the propensity of enterprises to adopt the open innovation approach.

Opis:
The way innovation is know has started to change, shifting from a closed to an open approach. Open innovation has been creating new ways of working in innovation ecosystems, giving the actors more opportunities to obtain new tools, knowledge and more benefits by collaborating with other actors involved in the same network. These innovation ecosystems have their support on innovation platforms, which have different rules and protocols that describe the way interaction should take place. Based on this, this work is motivated in knowing why actors would participate in open innovation platforms. The approach for this paper is to define the motivators and interests of the actors – Government, Businesses and Universities – in their participation in open innovation platforms, as well as to represent how this can benefit them. A case is presented in which the motivators and actors are related in an ecosystem, indicating how they take advantage of the knowledge and resources in it.

The current increasing topic around empirical study is environmental issues. Several previous studies examined how open innovation strategies could affect eco-innovation amid research debates about environmental conservation in corporate innovation. This study aims to prove the effect of open innovation strategies on creating ecoinnovation to affect SMEs’ sustainable competitive advantage and performance empirically. This study developed and empirically tested the mediating role of eco-innovation on sustainable competitive advantage and performance. A quantitative approach in testing the empirical research model was implemented. A total of 223 SMEs in the batik sector in Yogyakarta were examined. We used purposive sampling approach to select the research sample. The criteria used in the sampling is SMEs batik which has been operating for three years or more. The results revealed that open innovation strategies significantly positively affected eco-innovation while eco-innovation significantly positively affected competitive advantage and SMEs performance. Environmental uncertainty strengthened the eco-innovation relationship on competitive advantage, but not on the SMEs’ performance.

This study throws light on the outline of innovation taking place in Indian Food Processing SMEs with a special focus on open Innovation taking place in these SMEs and the exchange of information or knowledge taking place between inside-out and outside-in parties for the purpose of innovation. In addition, puts special focus on describing how SMEs’ product innovation output related with the effect of outside-in and inside-out exchange of knowledge and information. Further, it analyzes how expenditure on innovation and collaborating with outside parties can help in the predicting product innovation output of Indian Food Processing SMEs. The analysis was done with the help of Jamovi to find out regression between the dependent variable- “Product innovation output” & independent variables- “Extent of openness”, “Inhouse R& D expenditure”, “Purchase of R&D from outside sources”, “Acquiring knowledge from outside sources” and control variable- “Indian Food Processing SMEs”. And towards the end, it contains the summary of the survey done, which suggested that Indian Food Processing SMEs are proactively involved themselves in inside R&D in comparison to the outside R&D and buying or taking license from outside sources. Other than these activities, one more pointer came as a takeaway from the study, product innovation is performed more in comparison to process innovation by the Indian Food Processing SMEs.

Opis:
The paper aims to analyse the relationship between different types of corporate strategy and open innovation in the contexts of the age, size and the operational range of enterprises. The research targeted companies in Poland that were surveyed from January to April, using traditional and electronic forms of a questionnaire. The questionnaire was developed based on a 5-point Likert scale. The level of “openness” of innovation processes in an enterprise was determined according to a 3-point scale, namely, a closed innovator, a hybrid or semi-open innovator, and an open innovator. The strategy implemented by an enterprise was classed into main three types used to achieve a competitive advantage, i.e. cost leadership, differentiation or diversification. There is a strong correlation between open innovations, the cost leadership strategy and the differentiation strategy (negative correlation). The relationship between the age, size and the range of a company and the opening of innovative processes was also observed. The research aims to fill the knowledge gap existing in the literature regarding the links between a particular type of strategy and the opening of innovation processes.
