Opis:
The aim of the presented research was to investigate the influence of strontium dopant on the structure and composition of $La_{1-x}Sr_{x}CoO_3$ (x=0, 0.1, 0.2) perovskite thin films. Pure and Sr doped LaCoO₃ thin films were grown by pulsed electron deposition technique on crystalline epi-polished Si/MgO substrates. Numerous analytical techniques (scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction) were applied to characterize their phase/chemical composition, structure and surface morphology. X-ray diffraction analysis showed the presence of pure LaCoO₃ perovskite phase in the undoped thin film. For Sr doped thin films $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}CoO_3$ (x=0.2), $La_{0.9}Sr_{0.1}CoO_3$ (x=0.1) small contents of La₂ O₃ and LaSrCoO₄ phases were noticed. The crystallite sizes, calculated from the Williamson-Hall plots, were about 18 nm for all analyzed films. According to scanning electron microscopy/atomic force microscopy observations, obtained thin films were free from defects and cracks. Atomic force microscopy (tapping mode) analysis revealed the differences in the shape and quantity of surface crystallites for all thin films as a result of Sr doping and different deposition parameters. Atomic force microscopy technique also allowed measurement of roughness parameters for analyzed samples. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses of chemical states of elements of thin films showed that their chemical state was stable across the film thickness and even at the interface with the MgO substrate. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis also allowed to evaluate chemical states and atomic concentration of La, Co, and Sr elements within cross-sections of deposited thin films.

The room temperature reflectivity spectra of HgSe$\text{}_{1-x}$Te$\text{}_{x}$ (x = 0, 0.4, 0.5, 1.0) crystals were measured in the visible and ultraviolet range from 1.5 to 12 eV. The maxima characteristic of the binary HgA$\text{}^{IV}$ compounds can be revealed in the mixed crystals spectra, but their position depends on the crystal composition. There is no duplication of the spectral features in spite of the different energy position of the maxima for HgSe and HgTe. This suggests that the virtual crystal approximation could be used to describe basic optical properties of HgSe$\text{}_{1-x}$Te$\text{}_{x}$.

Features associated with short and prolonged growth time in the chemical vapor deposition process of growth of graphene stacks on SiC (0001) substrate are reported. In particular general bimodal (as far as $d_{002}$ interlayer spacing is concerned) distribution of graphene species across the surface of the samples is observed. It consists of thin few layer graphene coverage of most of the sample surface accompanied by thick graphite-like island distribution. It points to the two independent channels of graphene stacks growth with two characteristic growth rates.

Opis:
The atmospheric pressure plasma is much advantageous over low pressure plasmas in various aspects, e.g. vacuum-free operation, relative low cost, flexibility of a continuous process. Among various plasmas generated in atmospheric pressure discharges there are cold plasma jets that represent a technology of great application promise (industry, medicine, biology). To generate low-temperature plasmas at atmospheric pressure the dielectric barrier discharge can be used. It is suitable for the atomization of volatile species and can also be served as a ionization source for ambient mass and ion mobility spectrometry. As the discharge is generated in a restricted electrode structure, a plasma jet (plume) is usually formed outside the electrode region (that provides spatial separation of the plasma generation and surface processing regions). The paper presents a source based on a plasma jet established at the end of a capillary dielectric barrier discharge at atmospheric pressure and its application to mass spectrometry. The structure of the jet generator consists of piezoelectric transformer and two concentric and symmetric electrodes, between which the working gas flows at definite rate. Besides the source description early results of spectroscopic analysis are also given.

We report measurements of the cross sections σ$\text{}_{l-mix}$ for angular momentum mixing of the K(n$\text{}^{2}$F)(n=6, 7, 8) states with the K(n,l > 3) states, induced in thermal collisions with parent ground state K(4$\text{}^{2}$S) atoms. The experiment was performed in a cell heated to ca. 450K. The n$\text{}^{2}$F states were excited in two steps: 4$\text{}^{2}$S → 4$\text{}^{2}$P → n$\text{}^{2F}$ by using a diode laser for the first step (a dipole-transition) and a pulsed dye laser for the second step (a quadrupole-transition). The measured values σ$\text{}_{l-mix}$ (6$\text{}^{2}$F)=3.6+-2.2, σ$\text{}_{l-mix}$ (7$\text{}^{2}$F)=4.2+-2.6 and σ$\text{}_{l-mix}$ (8$\text{}^{2}$F)=8.0+-4.6 (in units of 10$\text{}^{-13}$cm$\text{}^{-1}$) are close to the corresponding values of the geometrical cross sections.

Opis:
Thin-film structures composed of two kinds of ferromagnetic material - metallic Fe and semiconducting (Ga,Mn)As - were investigated by means of SQUID magnetometry and ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy. Dependence of remnant magnetic moment on temperature showed unexpected anisotropic features when recorded along two orthogonal in-plane directions. For one of these orientations, the change in sign of the slope of m(T) curve at the Curie point of (Ga,Mn)As was observed, while for the other, an analogous m(T) curve retained monotonic character. Based on the comparison with ferromagnetic resonance data, the apparent non-monotonicity was attributed to the temperature-induced change of balance between the external magnetic field and uniaxial magnetic anisotropy in the plane of Fe layer.

For single crystals $HgCr_2Se_4$ doped by nonmagnetic $Cu^{+},$ $Au^{2+}$ and $Ga^{3+}$ ions and single crystals of $HgCr_2Se_4$ matrix growing in different synthesis conditions both the dc and ac magnetic susceptibility as well as the magnetization have been measured. As it follows from the analysis of the obtained results, paradoxically, the dopants strengthen the long range magnetic interactions of the ferromagnetically ordered single crystals under study, evidenced by the higher values of the ordering temperature in comparison with those ones for pure matrix. An influence of the technological processes connected with deficiency and/or excess of Hg on the long range magnetic interactions was not observed.

Opis:
The CdTe(100) c(2×2) surface prepared by ion bombardment and annealing was investigated by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation with photon energies between 8.5 eV and 32 eV. The bulk band structure was determined along the ΓΔX-direction normal to the surface measuring energy-distribution curves. The results are compared with a theoretical valence band structure assuming free-electron-like final states in connection with k-conservation. For further comparison we calculated the final states by the pseudopotential method and analyzed the results in form of structure plots. In this way, most of the dispersing maxima in the normal emission spectra can be explained. For this mode of photoelectron spectroscopy the resulting dispersion must be due to the component of the Bloch wave vector normal to the surface, k$\text{}_{⊥}$, keeping surface related structures at a fixed binding energy position E$\text{}_{b}$. The lack of dispersion for five structures along ΓΔX gives experimental evidence for their surface origin.

We report a new approach to investigate metal-semiconductor interface formation. Photoemission spectroscopy was applied in order to investigate the clean surface of a Sn$\text{}_{0.97}$Cr$\text{}_{0.03}$ Te crystal and to observe its changes under sequential deposition of small amounts of Cr atoms. In order to analyse the Cr 3d contribution to the valence band, the Fano-type resonance tuned to the Cr 3p-3d transition was used. The experiment was designed to follow the Sn$\text{}_{0.97}$Cr$\text{}_{0.03}$ Te/Cr interface formation process. At the clean Sn$\text{}_{0.97}$Cr$\text{}_{0.03}$Te surface, the Cr 3d states contribution to the valence band was found to be positioned 0.8 eV below the Fermi level. After the Cr deposition processes the contribution shifted to a higher binding energy and another contribution 5.8 eV below the Fermi level was also observed.
