Opis:
Mariusz Grygianiec has criticized the so called "proofs of nonexistence of general objects" as based on a wrong definition. In this paper one of his arguments is shown to depend on an unsatisfiable condition (contradictory to some basic ontological intuitions) without which, however, it is inconclusive as a reductio ad absurdum. Furthermore, it is suggested that even if the argument was sound, it could by no means be counted - contrary to the Author's intention - as a counterargument to Stanisław Leśniewski and Tadeusz Kotarbiński.

Different Jewish thinkers were interested in Jesus since antiquity. But until the modern times they had spoken about him very little and rather negatively. In the sixteenth century a new stage of this interest appeared because several Jews began to look at Jesus with widely opened eyes. They were ready to know critically Jesus on the basis of Christian sources. This paper presents view of Solomon ibn Verga, Abraham Farissol, Jehuda Karmi, Leo Modena, Baruch Spinoza and Jacob Emden. In this way they showed that a profound communication should precede any formal dialogue between Judaism and Christianity.

Corporate social responsibility is becoming more and more popular all over the world. It is promoted by governments and transnational organizations. Nevertheless, since its establishment, it has gained a large group of enemies and still meets with a wave of criticism from different sides, beggining from economists, standing on the position that the purpose of business is only to generate income, through philosophers, who see in CSR a new tool for social enslavement, ending at sociologists, who see an element of corporate management and modern control technology in it. The article presents the most important arguments against corporate social responsibility. It also engages in a polemic against opponents of this concept. However, the starting point is the theory of stakeholders, considered by many as the framework of CSR.

The article offers a reconstruction of the text-based fight between Adolf Nowaczyński and Antoni Słonimski. It was not, as it is argued here, only a contest of styles and temperaments – though this exchange proved one of the most impressive, powerful, and dramatic polemics of that time in terms of articulation. However, it stemmed from a long history of tumultuous contacts which offered an amplified view of the problems of identity (Jewishness), politics, and community. A comprehensive view of the combat between Nowaczyński and Słonimski requires both an analysis of the rhetorics of the texts and an investigation into the context and dynamics of publication.

The article shows the names of the sacrament of confi rmation used in Piotr Skarga’s sermons. The analyzed material has been taken from Kazania o śiedmi Sákrámentách, published in 1600 in Kraków by Andrzej Piotrkowczyk publishinh house, whereas the comparative material has originated from Słownik polszczyzny XVI wieku and other publications about religious language, which are enumerated in the bibliography. The analysis of the materials shows that Skarga has not created new names for the sacrament of confirmation. They have the same forms as in the Bible or in the papers of Church Fathers, namely confi rmation, sacrament of confi rmation.

This article analyses the reasons why Descartes refused to enter into a polemic with Gassendi after the publication of his new objections to Meditations. It argues that Descartes’ irritation was justified because the sensualist limitations of Gassendi’s position made him unable to understand the issues which constituted an important novelty in Descartes’ philosophy. For his part, Descartes is likely to have suspected that Gassendi was not even trying to understand the essence of his philosophy.

Tadeusz Kudliński remained in the memory of Cracovians, above all, as a theatre critic and the author of books dedicated to this topic, which have been republished many times. Serving the function of an educational mission, they combined a harmonious perspective of a historian, researcher, critic, polemicist and apologist, who was also a great story-teller. The role of a ‘theatre man’, which he assumed, also included contacts with amateur theatre, discussions with audience and cooperation with the Theatre Lovers Club. Views on art which had clashed in the preceding century, were clearly reflected in the monographs and collections of reviews written by the author, for whom the history of the theatre was, in fact, the history of drama. For years, Kudliński consistently carried out his ‘theatre lesson’. It revolved around numerous issues – from the description of various theatrical aesthetics, through the search for ‘a Polish style’ of performance, to the characterisation of experimental groups (e.g. Grotowski’s or student theatre). The critic placed experiment on the side of cultural life, on no account in the popular theatre, therefore, he criticised all Polish directors from the second half of the 20th century who staged ‘experimentally’, especially classics. Being a traditionalist and a supporter of theatrical illusion, he attacked Brecht’s model of epic performance, glorifying ”the process of actor transformation”, although he emphasised that it doesn’t have to ”concern only reality.” He provoked, irritated – and taught, which can be confirmed by the fact that his books about theatre are still widely read nowadays.

In the presented polemical article I discuss the paper by Izabela Wagner (Selektywna analiza problemu publikacji humanistów i przedstawicieli nauk społecznych w języku angielskim [Analysis of the problem regarding publishing the scientific articles written in English in humanities and social sciences by scholars originated and educated in non-English speaking countries], „Przegląd Socjologii Jakościowej”, 2012, t. 8, nr 1, s. 166–187). One of the main issues of her polemic was the process of articles’ review in the scientific international journals. On the basis of her single experience with an American journal, Wagner presents a very negative view on this process. However, neither the author of the presented polemic, nor other known to him Polish scientist who have published articles in the international journals in the area of social sciences have encountered problems described by Wagner. In my opinion, such information is very important for the readers of PSJ, since subjective and pejorative presentation of the reviewing process might cause prejudices towards publishing articles in the international journals among the Polish scientists. Additionally, I described in detail the process of assignment of points to the international journals by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education (the knowledge of which might help to avoid important misunderstandings). Moreover, I presented the possible ways of dealing with unethical editor’s behavior described by Wagner and analyzed her advices on publishing strategies and international career.

Theodore Abu–Qurrah was a disciple of John of Damascus. Despite his rich written legacy he is still not very well known to Polish historians. He wrote in Byzantine Greek and Arabic. It is presented to Polish historians to show how much research must still be done on this subject. An article Journalism – an occupation or profession shows the polemic about the problem whether to qualify journalism as profession. Author points the reasons for and against treating journalism as the profession. The author is especially focuses on the role and social mission associated with journal- ists. The first parts of the article concern the range of definitions of journal- ism as well as the areas and phases of its development. The following parts define the terms of occupation and profession and are the attempt to qualify journalism to one of those categories. Basing on the analysis of the literature, author claims that journalism do not fulfill the criteria to be qualified as profession. Author analyses the matter in order to show the society and the journalists environment, what actions should be undertaken to make the rank of journalism higher and make it more professional.

L’objectif de cette contribution est d’analyser le fonctionnement argumentatif de la formule (au sens de Krieg-Planque 2003, 2009) dobra zmiana (‘bon changement’) dans l’espace public polonais. Après avoir dégagé le potentiel argumentatif du slogan de campagne qu’elle était à l’origine et à l’aide duquel le parti Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (Droit et Justice) est arrivé au pouvoir en Pologne en 2015, nous analysons les stratégies argumentatives dans le discours des opposants au parti au pouvoir (politiques et journalistes anti-gouvernementaux). La formule dobra zmiana est mobilisée dans ce discours afin de disqualifier le parti gouvernant soit de manière déclarée soit de manière voilée, ce qui se fait grâce à trois démarches : reprise sans altérations formelles, reprise avec défigement et évitement.
The aim of this article is to analyse the argumentative functioning of the formula (in the sense of Krieg-Planque 2003, 2009) dobra zmiana (‘good change’) in the Polish public space. After identifying the argumentative potential of the campaign slogan, that it was in the origin and with which the political party Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (Law and Justice) came to power in Poland in 2015, we analyse the argumentative strategies in the discourse of the opponents of the ruling party (politicians and anti-government journalists). The formula dobra zmiana is used in this discourse in order to disqualify the ruling party in a declared way or in a veiled way, which is done in three ways: adoption without formal alterations, adoption with défigement and avoidance.

This article tries to find the answers to the following questions: Can one find, in the Rabbinic writings (the Tosefta, Jerusalem Talmud and Babylonian Talmud), some texts that refer to Jesus and His followers? What is their nature? Do they include anti-Christian undertones and constitute a specific Rabbinic anti-gospel: the rabbis’ well-thought and thorough reaction to the content included in the Gospels? The author in his answers used the detailed research presented in his latest monograph entitled Jesus and His Followers in the Talmud. A Textological, Historical and Sociological Analysis, Lublin 2013. His investigation leads him to the conclusion that in Talmudic narratives Rabbis created a specific anti-gospel which was initially transmitted verbally and then written down in various contexts of their works. The aim of this anti-gospel is to challenge the authority of Jesus of Nazareth as the Son of God and the Messiah from the house of David. Rabbinic narratives wish to show in a clear way that Jesus must not usurp any messianic and divine prerogatives. In the earlier times rabbis warned Jewish community against magic power and the attractiveness of the doctrine advocated by heretics. Subsequent rabbis showed the weakness and stupidity of heretical teaching, whose contradictions and lack of logic were easy to disprove by making use of proper argumentation. Jewish sages wished to prove the superiority of the Rabbinic doctrine and the biblical presentation they offered, over the Christian faith.

The aim of this paper is to show how a 16th-century Catholic clergyman would polemicize in the matter of religion with a Lutheran, whom he tried to convince to abandon erroneous (in his opinion) teachings. The author attempts to demonstrate the means and devices which Hozjusz employed for that purpose, and show the image of a heretic and a defender of faith conveyed in the letter to Marcin Kromer dated 15 of April 1551.

The Qur’ān was never translated into Church Slavic in its entirety; still, in the writings of some mediaeval Christian authors (Byzantine and Latin) quite extensive quotations and borrowings from it can be found. Many of these texts were transmitted in the Slavia Orthodoxa area. The aim of this article is to present the Church Slavic literary sources which contain quotations from the Qur’ān. The analysis covers Slavic translations of Byzantine and Latin authors as well as original texts of Slavic provenance. The main conclusion of the research is that only ca. 2% of the text of the Qur’ān has been preserved in the Church Slavic material.
