Recommendations made by policy makers, increasing competitive pressure and growing popularity of digital media among participants of teaching processes contribute to their increasingly extensive use at Polish universities. The fact that the teaching processes has entered the new, digital dimension reveals the need for information concerning the relevance of use of electronic media, especially from the perspective of achieving learning outcomes. Given the above, the purpose of this paper is to present results of research on opinions of both students and academics on the need and significanceof the application of digital media in the learning processes. For the purposes of the article, a quantitative research was conducted among 86 students and 66 teachers from University of Economics in Katowice. The data was collected in April 2015 using an online surveying technique and analyzed using statistical description. In the light of our results, the application of electronic media seems to not only be imposed by macro- and micro-environmental conditions, but also to be expected by the main participants of educational processes taking place at university level. The results show that both groups of respondents consider the use of digital media at least as advisable for the achievement of learning outcomes (71.8% of responses covered labels: advisable, recommended or required). However, the level of necessity is slightly higher when digital tools are used by students (80.7%) than by teachers (70.3%). In general, multimedia presentations have been identifiedas the most required form of digital media application in teaching at the university.

Opis:
Background: Dynamic change has compelled Malaysian Polytechnics to embrace service quality to achieve competitive advantage and sustainability for nation economic development. Current literature in higher education service quality shows that appropriate implementation of HEdPERF in the organization operation will improve the service quality and job satisfaction that subsequently will enhance the organizational performance. Although many studies have explored the relationship between service quality and satisfaction in higher education, the role of service quality as antecedents for employee satisfaction has been poorly discussed in higher education quality management literature. The aim of this study is to measure the service quality and satisfaction relationship among lecturers at premier Malaysian polytechnics. Methods: This study employed self-report questionnaires gathered from 187 lecturers at premiere Malaysian polytechnics using HEdPERF (Higher Education Performance) model. Data were analysed using the Statistical Packages for Social Science (SPSS) version 23. Results: The results revealed that non-academic aspects, academic aspects, programme issue, and access are significant predictors for job satisfaction at Malaysian polytechnics. Conversely, reputation does not play a significant role with satisfaction. Conclusions: The findings confirm the ability of service provider to correctly execute non-academic, academic, programme issue and access aspects as being important to improve the employee's satisfaction. Only reputation which is insignificant to employee satisfaction is found in the studied organization. Employee and staff should be treated as customers of the organization in view of their criticality for service delivery excellence to achieve organizational vision and mission.
Metody: Dane do analizy zebrano poprzez przeprowadzenie ankiety wśród 187 wykładowców w najważniejszej Politechnice Malezyjskiej, przy zastosowaniu modelu HEdPERF (Higher Education Performance). Następnie dane poddano obróbce statystycznej przy pomocy Statistical Packages for Social Science (SPSS) version 23.

Opis:
Background. One of the main purposes of general education and physical education is to improve the student’s physical performance. This is done by increasing the number of motor skills and improving them, which determine the organism’s state of readiness for effective performance of various types of motor tasks. Physical fitness viewed as a combination of health-related components (testing strength, speed, aerobic capacity and muscle strength) and motor performance (testing coordination and power) provides students with a better motivation to care for their own body and health. The level of physical fitness of freshmen entering university sums up, in a way, the effectiveness of school physical education. Adolescents are developing motor skills reaching the level which determines a better or worse performance of a given physical task (e.g. Cooper test). Health and full fitness are not only essential factors of human happiness, but also a fundamental social value. These values are not given to people once and for all and their distribution is not fair, so one needs to take care of them and shape them so that they could maintain in good shape as long as possible. Material and methods. The aim of this study was to present the level of physical fitness of female and male students (total number 2098) who entered the West Pomeranian University of Szczecin in the years 2005–2011. The Cooper test was used. Results. Each year the average of the most numerous group was always below the average for the given year. Conclusions. A gradual decrease in the freshmen’ physical fitness was observed, which results from inadequate work done in secondary schools.

Opis:
This article explores language-in-education (LIE) policies within post-colonial contexts, with a specific focus on Tanzania. It provides a systematic exploration of the multifaceted factors that shape these policies and their profound impact on academic performance and educational outcomes in the country. Specifically, the article examines the relationship between policies prioritizing students’ mother tongue or familiar language and academic performance. Additionally, it assesses the influence of policies favouring the language of the past colonizer on academic outcomes in primary and secondary education. The theoretical foundation of this study is Critical Theory, a framework which illuminates the power dynamics and social inequalities inherent in policy development and implementation. It provides insights into how dominant linguistic groups exert influence in decision-making processes and how language policies perpetuate existing social hierarchies. The study holds significant research value, as it addresses the pivotal role of LIE policies in shaping educational outcomes and socio-economic opportunities within multilingual societies. It acknowledges the contentious nature of language and education debates within the African context, especially in primary education. A key contribution of this research is its holistic approach. Unlike studies that solely focus on academic performance metrics or isolated variables, it considers a wide range of societal, historical, and political factors that intersect with language policies. This comprehensive view allows for a deeper understanding of the challenges posed by English as a third language in Tanzania’s educational system. Furthermore, the study underscores the importance of engaging multiple stakeholders, ensuring teacher readiness, and incorporating the perspectives of students to effectively implement LIE policies. It emphasizes the need for increased government commitment and public awareness to develop inclusive and equitable policies that promote quality education and social justice. In conclusion, this article offers valuable insights into the complex landscape of LIE policies in Tanzania. It calls for a nuanced approach that considers the unique context of each post-colonial nation to develop pragmatic and equitable language policies conducive to desired educational outcomes.

The study was triggered as a result of declining performance of learners in Botswana and it was aimed at finding solutions that would enhance sound academic performance in junior secondary schools. A phenomenological design was selected for the study while a qualitative approach was adopted using focus group interviews as the source of data collection from participants. The findings of this study revealed that the inability of the government of Botswana to implement job satisfaction measures in educators inhibited adequate transfer of knowledge to learners, which resulted in a decline in performance. Learners’ gross misconduct and their parents’ inability to counsel them contributed to their decline in performance. Also, learners and educators admitted that the current system of education should be replaced with another productive system. Another finding of this study confirmed that learners are tired of corporal punishment and they want it to be replaced with detention. The study recommendation is that the Ministry of Education of Botswana should apply motivational and job satisfaction factors to encourage educators to adequately transfer knowledge to learners.

It discusses the ways of theatricalization of learning space, shows how to combine knowledge with the ability to self-reflection and performative interpretation texts written by students. The article highlights the role of motivational factors that allow students to be able to create a few-minute performance. In the end, the author shows that performative interpretation can also be applied for other courses, making it an effective way of producing places of "cultural reciprocity", which the M. P. Opis:
It is obvious that broad world view provided by education can douse tension, discrimination, reduce hate speech and minimize aggression. Education is a weapon of mass instruction and has been powerful enough to push ignorance to the background. More so, it has become a prime function of education to illuminate the world with ideas and in its nature to unite the world through inventions and technological developments. Arguably, education has also introduced strange norms and vices especially among youth circles. But, because habits are hard to modify, the onus falls on the theatre that thrives on burlesques, parody, polar attitudes and modification of character to use the stage effectively for correction and preservation. Methodically, this paper x-rays selected theatre performances that have tried to reduce ethnic conflicts in Nigeria using the Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation (FIRO) as theoretical backings. Through role playing on stage and in the classroom, the paper redirects the attention of the youth and government towards reorientation and sustainable values. The findings reveal that theatre has the capacity to influence minds and can engineer behavioral change which by extension ensures peaceful co-existence and sustainable developments. Thus, the paper recommends that History, Culture and Youth Education be incorporated in the secondary school curriculum. Also, if theatre performances with topical themes are sponsored for the benefit of the youths, it will increase tolerance. The research concludes that performing youth education in the classroom, at grass root level and public spaces will subtly promote nation building and integration.

Purpose: The article addressed the problem of relationships between university funding and effciency on the one hand and the quality of teaching and research on the other. Methodology: The measurement of teaching and research quality in Polish universities was derived from two sources: 1) evaluation scores of teaching quality given to universities by the Polish Accreditation Committee, and 2) the research category grades given to university departments or units by the Polish Committee for Evaluation of Scientifc Units. Subsequently, the quality measurements were correlated with fnancial indicators and effciency scores obtained from data envelopment analysis. Findings: The correlation and regression results indicated that public universities that have received higher scores of teaching quality simultaneously have higher average scientifc categories. There was also a substantial relationship between the revenue per student and the revenue per teacher and variables describing quality but the regression analysis exhibited opposite directions regarding the type of quality indicator. Practical implications: The authorities of a university can simultaneously track the improvement of quality or fnancial effciency without losing their interdependence when reforms of HEI operations are conducted. Research limitations/implications: The quality of teaching and research at universities was assessed despite the limited availability of internal information gathered from higher education institutions (HEIs). Originality: The study proposed new measurements of quality derived from external evaluation bodies and investigated the relations of these measures with selected fnancial and effciency indicators

Cultural-Ecological Theory of School Performance.
Opis:
This paper aims to discuss the connection between compulsory schooling and minority status, and how they are related to differential performance of minorities in national education systems. After describing the theoretical framework based on the works of John Ogbu, I will attempt to present how his Cultural-Ecological Theory of School Performance refers to Romanian Roma community in Wrocław, Poland, which is a group systematically excluded from the dominant society. The analysis suggests that systemic forces act against Roma. This is marked by discrimination towards them in schools and in the labour market. On the side of Roma, mistrust in public institutions, fear of loosing cultural identity and seeing escaping the pariah status as unobtainable leads to lack of investment in formal education.

A high usage of social media and web 2.0 in Indonesia creates an opportunity for Indonesian universities to understand their customers’ demands and needs. By considering social media and web 2.0 technology as an important role for the application of social customer relationship management (social CRM), this research is intended to evaluate the adoption and application level of social media and web 2.0 by universities in Indonesia. We accomplish an observation towards websites and web 2.0 and social media features, which are used by 58 universities in Jakarta, to be analyzed using non-exhaustive Sophistication Index. In addition, we execute a survey as well to take a look on university principals’ perception towards the practice of web 2.0 and social media application, and analyze it with Importance Performance Analysis (IPA). The result of this research shows that there are some web 2.0 and social media features which need to be utilized more frequently by universities, though most of these features have been working optimally.

Aim. Research to date acknowledges the learning, instructional and assessment advantages of self-assessment used in different fields of study in higher education contexts, yet little known research has focused on its use for learning and raising learner awareness while studying English for Specific Purposes (ESP). To this end, the present small-scale study examines the use of self-assessment of philology students’ ESP oral performance at a university in Lithuania. Method. The data for this research was collected from undergraduate students’ written reports on their project presentations on the chosen ESP topics. To analyse the data, qualitative methodology of inductive content analysis was used. Results. The study resulted in the identification of five major dimensions covering problem areas in the students’ ESP oral performance. The findings indicate that self-assessment enabled the students not only to identify some gaps and difficulties in their ESP oral performance that call for action but also to establish the reasons which caused them, foresee how the gaps can be closed or the difficulties coped with. Furthermore, it allowed the students to make decisions that reached far beyond the self-assessment task. The results also demonstrate that self-assessment raised the students’ awareness of themselves as learners by giving them direction on how to perform better in the future. Conclusion. Self-assessment, as used in the present research, proves to be a valuable tool both for the students of ESP and their teachers as it reveals areas in the students’ performance that call for improvement, which enables ESP teachers to support their students to achieve better results in the future.

The Visegrad Group countries are often cited as an example of a successful transition from a centrally planned economy to a market-based one. Education is crucial in enhancing the quality of human capital, which directly impacts a country's economy. The paper addresses the impact of educational attainment on the gross domestic product in the Visegrad Group countries. To assess the educational attainment of economically active per-sons, the Educational Attainment Index was calculated. The period analysed is the time from 2005 to 2020. Changes in the share of economically active persons with tertiary education were examined, with the best values achieved in Poland compared to other countries. Poland outperformed the remaining Visegrad Group countries in terms of the Educational Attainment Index, but Slovakia and the Czech Republic also managed to perform above the EU average. In terms of gross domestic product per capita, the Visegrad Group countries showed values below the EU average throughout the studied period. The analysis found that Poland had the highest Pearson correlation coefficient between the education index and gross domestic product per capita among the four countries and the EU average.

The aim of this article is to introduce essence of performance dashboards and present possibility of its usage in the field of education, with particular emphasis on the monitoring of student learning progress. Dashboard is an useful Business Intelligence tool for integration and visualization of data, often using the data warehouses. It is an interactive, intuitive, convenient and transparent graphical monitoring tool. Dashboards with its advantages can be successfully used in educational institutions such as for instance: schools, colleges, training centers etc. Dashboards are designed to support decision-making process through sharing condensed information to policy makers through the presentation of key performance indicators. Authors identified and described two main contexts of monitoring the performance of e-learning: monitoring the progress of students by teachers and self-monitoring of progress in courses by students. Authors presented several examples of dashboards that were used in the field of education. Dashboard has been presented also as an useful graphical analytical interface based on data from Learning Management Systems (LMS), which have also been briefly defined.

Opis:
Project management is sufficiently described in the source literature. However, numerous published scientific works refer mainly to examples of good practice in project management in business entities, and unfortunately higher education establishments (HEE) are marginally analysed. Therefore, the analyses defined in study aim to evaluate the performance indicators of project management in universities, on the example of Gdynia Maritime University. In the studies the research in action method was applied as well as the technique of direct interview with project or department managers involved in the project implementation. The analyses covered selected projects that were implemented at the University between 2017 and 2021. Moreover, research questions were formulated, i.e., 1) Which indicators are used to assess the efficiency of project management at HEE?, 2) Does the surveyed HEE analyse the project management efficiency assessment? In order to conduct the study, the Author’s indicators were proposed to assess the efficiency of process management during the implementation of projects in HEE and these were applied in the analysis presented in this article. It was found that the surveyed university does not apply indicators to assess the efficiency of project management. Whereas the use fulness of indicators proposed by the Authors to study the efficiency of project management was confirmed by calculations performed. On these grounds, the Authors recommend the University authorities should consider implementing these indicators.
