The aim of the article is to examine the figure of a vagabond and an artist in the novel The Hidden Mountain (La Montagne secrète) by Gabrielle Roy which, according to Antoine Boisclair, is the first Quebec novel completely devoted to painting. It presents the wandering of the artist who does not perceive his vagabondage as movement from one place to another, but regards it as the essence of both his existence and his creation. First, the analysis explores the problem of wandering as narrative basis, examining the tension between the external reality and the inner experience of the painter. Then, the aim of the artist’s journey, symbolically delineated by the Hidden Mountain, is analyzed. The final part of the article is devoted to the concept of art presented in the novel, with particular emphasis on the humanistic dimension of artistic creation.

The main target of research in this article is the ballads by Mickiewicz Czaty (The watch), Trzech Budrysów (The three brothers Budrys) in comparison with the ballads by Pushkin Воевода (The waywode) and Будрыс и его сыновья (Budrys and his sons). In particular, there have been compared the artistic specific features of the mentioned works, the role of opposition, the role of ethnic flavour in their structure, language features, peculiarities of rhythm system and stanzaic prosody, functions of aposiopesis, rhetorical questions and exclamations and etc. When finding out the common and the different between the ballads by Mickiewicz and Pushkin, the author of the article points up the difference between the original and the translation. The type of these differences testifies, that the ballads The waywode and Budrys and his sons mediate between the translation and the original creative work and can be considered an independent interpretation of the ballads by Mickiewicz. It becomes apparent especially well in the text of Pushkin’s ballad The waywode.

Modern individuals face a relatively new for themselves problem of communicating with the art. The desire to get joy from "co - creation", the desire to use it as a way of asserting and self – realization faces the problem of self - determination in the world of total artistic and aesthetic relativism. The viewer falls into the situation of the potential impossibility of perceiving information. "Freedom" of the author turns into "non-freedom" of the subject of perception. The advocacy of the sovereignty of certain creative worlds in the modern cultural space, the awareness of creativity as an individual way of self-realization, that is so acutely today, in itself, can turn the state-of-art in any direction. Modern artistic space can give a person an exciting feeling of freedom, open prospects, but can also become a fact of voluntary deindividualization of a person, to give birth to a sense of loneliness, self-negligence. The liberation pathos of "emancipated" art can turn out to be a direct violation of the sovereignty and freedom of the subjects of "co-creation," or their spiritual consolidation, the "breakthrough" of alienation and loneliness.

This article discusses the specificity of poetic conceptualization of power in the poetry of William Wordsworth. The focus is on the diversity of textual images of a human being in general, such as an individual or collective subject, and on the philosophical concepts of human life and destiny positioned by the authors in the centre of artistic reflection synthesizing the appropriate social pragmatics. The research is based on the cognitive-discursive approach and proceeds from the scientific ideas about the dynamics of correlation between the cultural-historical paradigm and artistic thinking, the cognitive power of artistic image and artistic text as a linguistic sign of national culture. It involves the integration of research tools of linguistic and cognitive stylistics, cultural and literary studies, which builds a vector of analysis from the concept of power as a social phenomenon to its embodiment, explicit and implicit, at different levels of textual matter.

The twentieth century has developed three models for describing contemporary art. Three narratives dominated in the 1930’s and the 1940’s: Paris-French, German-Expressionist and avant-garde-international. In the 1950’s and the 1960’s, avant-garde-centrist model included two basic phases or formations in the art of the twentieth century. Historical avantgarde period covered the years 1905–1930. Neo-avant-garde lasted from 1955 to 1970. To a pair of avant-garde – neo-avant-garde, some authors add yet proto-avant-garde they considered as the nineteenth century artistic trends leading to the birth of the historical avant-garde - romanticism, realism of Courbet, impressionism, post-impressionism and on the other hand post-avant-garde, or art after the fall of the avant-garde. In the 1980’s and the 1990’s, avant-garde model was superseded by a model operating the opposition modernism - postmodernism. According to that model, the twentieth century art include two cultural and artistic formations: modernist and postmodernist formations. The first experienced its climax around 1910, when abstract art was born; the second in the 1980’s. Modernism and postmodernism can be considered as two codes that define literary (artistic) codes, but there is a significant difference between them. The modernist code reveals modernist essentialist attitude, the trend of looking for essence, individuality, specificity of art, trying to melt pure art, while postmodernist code refers to the avant-garde and the expanded field of art, focusing on the relationship of art and life.

The second part of the article “Feedback: an attempt to map the phenomenon”. The first one, published in issue 174 of Didaskalia, is an attempt to systematize knowledge on the theory of feedback and to indicate it as a tool to support, organize and discipline the process of creative work and artistic education. In the second part published below, the author creates a feedback toolbox, discussing possible methods and structures of feedback developed by the business, artistic education and individual creative practices of people working both in Poland and in other European countries and in the United States of America. Mira Mańka puts her reflections on feedback in two contexts: interdisciplinary knowledge in the field of psychology, sociology, education, theory and practice of business, and lived knowledge resulting from going through the university and artistic path of education in Poland. Referring to her own work and the experiences of other creators, she constructs an author’s and open selection of reflections, recommendations and directions for the development of feedback, both in the perspectives of Polish theater pedagogy and individual artistic practice.

This article presents influencing with art1 and influencing through art2 aiming at the creation of situations which support the potential of individuals, especially in the case of children from backgrounds with ineffective parenting. Children from such backgrounds participated in an arts therapy project which aimed to facilitate creative activity through the preparation of a theatre show. Children’s cognitive, psychological and emotional needs are important, which is why the satisfaction of these needs was also an aim, as it was found that these needs were not being satisfied in the children’s culturally deprived environment. Influencing through art (in this case - a performing art) can very well serve the satisfaction of individual needs related to self-identification and self-definition (Bauman, 2010). From this point on, it is a straight road to influencing individuals’ self-esteem.

Wspieranie uzdolnień i rozwój kreatywności dzieci należą współcześnie do podstawowych zadań edukacji. Zajęcia plastyczne wychodzą naprzeciw tym oczekiwaniom, kształtując wyobraźnię i twórczość dzieci, oferując możliwości treningu zdolności manualnych czy dostarczając najmłodszym silnych przeżyć estetycznych. Przedmiotem przeprowadzonych badań uczyniono kompetencje plastyczne dzieci w wieku przedszkolnym. Ich celem było ustalenie poziomu kompetencji plastycznych prezentowanych przez dzieci 4- i 5-letnie. Problematyka badawcza skupiała się wokół zagadnień dotyczących zachowań prezentowanych przez dzieci w wieku przedszkolnym w toku aktywności plastycznej, a także oceny poziomu ich wytworów plastycznych. W celu zebrania materiału badawczego posłużono się dwoma metodami: obserwacji oraz analizy dokumentów. Rejestracji danych dokonywano przy użyciu dwóch arkuszy, z czego pierwszy zawierał kategorie zachowań dzieci w toku działalności plastycznej, a drugi koncentrował się na zagadnieniach dotyczących elementów graficznych rysunków. Analiza prac dzieci 4- i 5-letnich została wykonana przez grupę sędziów kompetentnych. Badaniami objęto 25 dzieci uczęszczających do Zespołu Szkolno-Przedszkolnego w Lachowicach. Realizacja badań odbyła się w roku szkolnym 2016/2017. Otrzymane wyniki wskazują, że kompetencje plastyczne dzieci 4- i 5-letnich nie są jeszcze w pełni ukształtowane, a ich ogólny poziom rozwoju można ocenić jako przeciętny. Umożliwia on samodzielne i aktywne uczestnictwo dziecka w zajęciach plastycznych oferowanych przez nauczyciela w przedszkolu, jednak jakość wytworów plastycznych nie jest satysfakcjonująca, co sugeruje potrzebę organizowania ćwiczeń usprawniających motorykę przedszkolaków.
Supporting the talent and development of children’s creativity is considered to be fundamental educational priorities. Art classes meet these expectations by shaping children’s imagination and creativity, offering manual skills training opportunities as well as providing the youngest pupils with strong aesthetic experience. The subject of conducted research were artistic competences of children in the preschool age. Its aim was to determine the level of the above-mentioned competences presented by 4 and 5 year-olds. The research issues focused on the behaviors presented by children of preschool age in the course of artistic activity as well as the assessment of the level of artistic work made by the examined group of preschoolers. Two methods were used in order to collect the empirical material required for research, namely observation method and method of document analysis. Data collection was conducted with the use of two sheets, the first of which contained the categories of child behavior in the course of artistic activity, and the second one focused on the issues related to the graphic elements of drawings. An analysis of the works of 4 and 5-year-old children was carried out by a group of ‘competent judges.’ Twenty-five children attending Zespół Szkolno-Przedszkolny in Lachowice were surveyed with the research being conducted in the 2016 – 2017 school year. The results show that the artistic competences of 4 and 5-year-olds are not yet fully formed and that their overall level of development can be assessed as average. It allows for independent and active child participation in the artistic classes offered by the teacher in kindergarten. However, the quality of artistic works is not satisfactory, suggesting the need for organizing exercises improving the motor skills of preschoolers.

Opis:
Language in human civilization as a part of political, cultural and social life is an irreplaceable communicator. Ethnically language expresses facts, events, people and time. It saves and transports stylistic phenomena of language with new thinking constructs of vision, with traditional and original stylistics of folk and literary speech. This peculiarity of language is manifested in its linguistic cultures – the linguistic conceptualization signs (units) of creative, cultural content in broad sense, cultural phenomena, cultural notions and nominations, knowledge of ideologies, individuals, events, facts and epochs. The existing state of cultural consciousness includes, in addition to the modern ideologues, the inheritance of social, aesthetic and ethical culture of the previous ages of the ethnos development. It is displayed in verbal codes in the form of lexical-grammatical semantics of linguistic units of all speech levels: phonosemantics, lexicology, phraseology, grammar, word formation, syntax, linguistic, linguistic communication, text formation, linguoculture. Purpose. The aspirations of the authors to show language communication and cultural cooperation of Polish and Ukrainian scientific figures of culture in the past for the benefit of our nations, to motivate younger generation to a common cultural work have been the subjects of our linguistic style study. Methods. The descriptive method makes it possible to carry out a description of the textual material; historical and philological commentary explains the philological sense in the historical context; with the help of linguistic and linguocultural analysis of literary texts, we define stylistics and linguocultures that have a conceptual value in the studied samples. Results. The general conclusion may be the fact of the recognition of the extremely important role of numerical inter-language and intercultural contacts between Ukrainians and Poles in the past and the projections of their future development. In today's turbulent world, which is undergoing regular attacks in an undeclared information war, friendly contacts and mutual understanding between our peoples depend to a large extent on knowledge and appreciation of the road of understanding they have gone through. Polish-Ukrainian relations have been experiencing different, more and less successful periods, but in the perspective of the historical development of the two modern European powers, bright future based on mutual understanding, mutual respect and mutual assistance is seen – this implies future directions of research.

All aspects connected with culture and artistic creation in South Africa in the last few decades of the 20th century were dominated by politics and political events. This was absolutely inevitable given the fact that the governing political system in South Africa was based on racial segregation of the society, that is on the so-called apartheid system. The most prominent figures in South African who struggled for equal rights for Black people were among others: Albert Luthuli, Nelson Mandela and Desmond Mpilo Tutu. All three of them were honored by a Nobel Peace Award for their outstanding achievements in bringing South Africa to peaceful democracy in 1994. The lack of formal academic education, which resulted from the legal regulations concerning the educational system of black students introduced in 1953, caused a very unfavourable situation for the black art and culture. For this reason, "black" newspapers, weeklies and magazines as well as informal civil associations star- ted to play a much more important role. Among the most important of these magazines and newspapers was a weekly newspaper called The Drum (many famous reporters were involved with it such as: Henry Nxumalo, Can Themba, Todd Matshikiza, Nat Nakasa, Lewis Nkosi, Es'kia Mphahlele), African Education Movement, Polly Street Art Centre (there under the management of Cecil Skotnes many well-known artists received artistic education, such as: Sydney Khumalo, Louis Maqhubela, Ezrom Legae, Lucas Sithole and Durant Sihlali). As the political struggle grew more fierce, especially after the massacre in Sharpeville of 1960, the sixties brought about a true eruption of black musical talents such as: Todd Matshikiza, Kippie Moeketsi or the famous lady singer Miriam Makeba. A very important organization in the freedom struggle was The South African Students' Organization (SASO), whose activities were directed towards the struggle against the apartheid system. Later this students' organization was transformed by the charismatic leader Steve Biko into The Black Consciousness Movement. The aims of this political movement became very popular among young black people living in townships in the seventies.

The author discusses relations between the original and translation in terms of imaginary spaces. Target text is understood here as one of the possible images of the source text, from the perspective which could not be accessible to the original. In accordance with the concept presented here, artistic translation can be not so much reconstructed, as conceptually constructed, in the manner of a cubist object. Acts of creative reading are commented on by the author with examples of his own experimental translations from contemporary French poetry.

In recent times several features have emerged as regards the contemporary sculptures of Benin. These features have either overtly or covertly created the differences between the ancient and contemporary bronze sculptures of Benin. These unfortunate features includes (1) careless finishing, (2) contemporary bronze are heavier, (3) themes are repeated, (4) lack deep storylines, (5) most times, bronze antiques are forged, and (6) most lack sensitive commanding forms. Indeed, these are the traits which made ancient Benin bronze sculptures resonate, reverberate and resound both in ancient and contemporary time. What therefore should be done to move the contemporary Benin bronze sculptures to a higher artistic level is what this paper seeks to appraise and critically establish.

The author of the article discusses an individual strategy of presenting the image of Dmitry Zhilunovich in the 20th century Belarusian literature (based on a documentary novel “Without an epitaph”). The picture is created by a system of artistic devices which depend on the features of the selected genres. Quotations of archival material, historians’ opinions, friends’ and relatives’ comments and memories built an elementary layer of the text of a documentary.
