In the article, there have been examined the major issues of youth employment in the Ukrainian labour market. There have been presented necessary ways of fostering the youth employment and major development prospects of the youth segment of the labour market. There have been given recommendations regarding ways of improvement of the situation for youth in the labour market.

Artykuł stanowi kompilację refleksji odnoszącej się z jednej strony do analiz teoretycznych, a z drugiej strony do praktyki edukacyjnej odzwierciedlonej w doświadczeniach zawodowych Autorki.
The aim of the article is to show the school in the context of the changing reality and requirements of the labor market. This article presents the modern dimensions of the school and examples of Model Training School projects. The issues of the development of the digital economy and the related competences of the future as well as the role of the teacher in a changing school are also discussed. The text is a compilation of reflections relating, on the one hand, to theoretical analyses and, on the other hand, to educational practice reflected in the author's professional experience.

The article describes the phenomenon of NEETs (young people not in employment, education or training) in the European labour market. The focus of the article is on the presentation of Eurostat statistical data. It shows the dynamics of change in the population share of young people meeting all of the three conditions: they are not gainfully employed, enrolled at any kind of education institution, and do not gain work experience as trainees or interns. Available quantitative data shows the scale of this unfavourable social phenomenon in the years 2006—2015 within the area of the European Union. The scale of the NEETs phenomenon was visible before, during, and after the recent economic crisis. Due to the lack of unambiguous defining framework — referring to the age limits of persons included in the NEETs category — the scale of this phenomenon, based on Eurostat’s analyses, was presented in reference to broader perspective: 15—34 years, and then among people aged 18—24. Not only does the article indicate a number of adverse consequences of this phenomenon, but also delineates recommendations whose implementation could contribute to curbing it.

The proposed text is an illustration of selected conclusions from a four-module research project conducted in one of the Wielkopolska counties. The aim of the empirical verification was to: make the educational and professional characteristics of the junior high school plans, get acquainted with the opinions of the employers on the situation in the local labor market, get acquainted with the plans connected with the employment of employees, get acquainted with the preparation of graduates of particular types of schools to meet the opinion of the directors of post-gymnasium schools on the state of the vocational education and to get acquainted with the opinions of the students of the upper secondary school classes on the situation on the labor market, the offer of vocational education and the self-assessment of preparation to enter the labor market. The research was conducted in the first quarter of 2016 and 2017, by the diagnostic survey method. The article is based on one of the study modules – a study of middle school students that was conducted in 2016 – the findings from the 2017 study will be cited in some places for comparative purposes only. Due to the specificity of the research topic, the selection of the research sample was random. High school students (N = 486 in 2016 and N = 490 in 2017), upper secondary school students (N = 503 – 2016 and N = 498 – 2017), upper secondary school graduates (N = 6 in 2016 and 2017 ) and the largest employers (N = 78 in 2016, N = 102 in 2017). In this project the diagnostic survey method was used as the basis. The method used to analyze the contents was made using the local traditional (printed) and internet press and the thematic work edited by the County Labor Office in Gniezno and other institutions. The main topic of this paper was the educational and vocational elections of junior high school students in the context of the situation on the local labor market (which, as it turns out, does not correspond to its needs), revealing weaknesses in vocational counseling. Regarding the specific nature of the region, attention has also been paid to the face (as opposed to the offer) of vocational education (depicted in the vocational school 2017/2018) depreciated in the eyes of the local community, which in the reality of the local labor market seems to be a rational educational choice without causing closure Road to higher education. The dissertation on vocational education has been made an additional element of publication.

This paper investigates major factors of youth unemployment in Spain from 1999–2012 and suggests a policy reform in order to mitigate its structural youth unemployment problem. Previous work in the research area of youth unemployment in Spain has largely focused on the impact of the economic crisis on youth unemployment but failed to identify causes for the structural nature of the problem when providing policy recommendations. In the frame of this research project, a causal model consisting of twelve variables has been established and used in order to disclose which factors have been determining youth unemployment the most in Spain from 1999-2012. The relationships between each of the twelve (independent) variables and youth unemployment (dependent variable) is analyzed using SPSS. Based on the findings of this analysis, a policy recommendation to substantially decrease the youth unemployment rate in Spain is provided. This paper finds that active labor market policies (ALMP) are the key to solving the youth unemployment problem and suggests a three-step policy reform to mitigate the youth unemployment rate in Spain.

The aim of this paper is to discuss the regional labour market policy response to demographic ageing in Sweden and its consequences on the labour supply of young adults. Regions with ageing problems already experience significant problems at the labour market. The overall conclusion is that labour market policies in Sweden addressing the consequences of ageing fail to include young adults and the policies do not address regional heterogeneity regarding e.g. ageing and youth unemployment.

This article explores the early effects of the pandemic on youth employment and income. First, it considers changes and continuity in both the employment morphology and the actual evolution of hourly earnings during the pandemic peak in 2020 second quarter, and the third quarter rebound. Young workers continue to have the worst employability gradient (informality, temporary work, part-time work, low-skilled tasks) as well as a striking wage gap in the young-adult population. The COVID-19 lockdown halted almost all informal activities; thereby, the lower tail of the distribution, overwhelmingly represented by younger women and low-skilled workers, has been withdrawn from the labour force. Consequently, the average income of young people increases, while at the same time there is a notorious decline in their labour participation in the peak of the pandemic, with only one out of every four young people taking part in the labour market.
Este artículo explora los primeros efectos de la pandemia en el empleo y los ingresos de los jóvenes. En primer lugar, se consideran los cambios y las continuidades tanto en la morfología del empleo como en la evolución de los ingresos laborales reales por hora durante el pico de la pandemia en el segundo trimestre de 2020 y la recuperación del tercero. Los jóvenes continúan teniendo el peor gradiente de empleabilidad (informalidad, trabajo temporal, a tiempo parcial, tareas poco calificadas) como una notoria brecha de ingresos respecto a la población adulta. El efecto del cierre por la pandemia descontinuó casi todas las actividades informales; al retirarse la cola más baja de la distribución, representada, abrumadoramente, por las mujeres jóvenes y los trabajadores poco cualificados, los ingresos laborales medios de los jóvenes aumentan, mientras que el descenso de la participación laboral fue notable, por caso sólo uno de cada cuatro jóvenes participó en el mercado laboral.

The proposed text is an illustration of research conducted in the first half of 2016 years of empirical verification planning future educational and vocational secondary school and upper secondary youth in Gniezno. Tekst jest ilustracją wybranych wniosków płynących z czteromodułowego projektu badawczego przeprowadzonego w jednym z wielkopolskich powiatów (powiat gnieźnieński). Głównym celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wyborów edukacyjno-zawodowych młodzieży gimnazjalnej w kontekście sytuacji na lokalnym rynku pracy. W tym kontekście ujawniono słabości w zakresie doradztwa zawodowego i kondycji szkolnictwa zawodowego. Zwrócono również uwagę na zdeprecjonowane w oczach społeczności szkolnictwa zawodowe (od roku szkolnego 2017/2018 branżowe), które w realiach powiatowego rynku pracy zdaje się być racjonalnym wyborem edukacyjnym, niepowodującym zamknięcia drogi na wyższe uczelnie. Problemy szkolnictwa zawodowego i dyskusje na jego temat uczyniono dodatkowym elementem publikacji. Podejmowana w tekście problematyka dotyczy nauk społecznych, pedagogiki.
The text illustrates selected conclusions from a four-module research project conducted in one of Wielkopolska counties, i.e. Gniezno county. The main aim of the article is to present educational and vocational choices of junior high school youth in the context of the situation on the local labour market. The authors reveal weaknesses in vocational counseling and in the condition of vocational education. Attention was also paid to the depreciated in the eyes of society vocational education (since the school year 2017/2018 industry education). Considering labour market realities in counties, such education seems to be a rational choice, not closing the path to universities. Problems of vocational education and discussions over it constitute an additional element of the paper. The topic taken up in this text falls within the scope of social sciences, pedagogy.

This article deals with the relevance and effectiveness of social support for young people at risk of exclusion from the labour market and the unemployed. The basis for this analysis is the knowledge of the specific needs of young people in need of special support in the labour market and the evaluation of the current work of the Voluntary Labour Corps in this area. The author points to the need for reprocess operations of public labour market institutions, in the provision of comprehensive and personalized services. Refers to the concept of new public management and the EU youth policy framework.
Artykuł podejmuje temat adekwatności i skuteczności wsparcia społecznego młodzieży zagrożonej wykluczeniem z rynku pracy i bezrobotnej. Podstawą analizy jest wiedza o specyfice potrzeb młodych ludzi wymagających szczególnego wsparcia na rynku pracy oraz ocena dotychczasowej działalności Ochotniczych Hufców Pracy w tym obszarze. Autorka wskazuje na konieczność przeprofilowania działalności publicznych instytucji rynku pracy w kierunku świadczenia usług kompleksowych i zindywidualizowanych. Odwołuje się do koncepcji nowego zarządzania publicznego i założeń polityki młodzieżowej w UE.

Now, unemployment among young generation of the Europeans is one of the most crucial problems in the policy of European Union and of the Member States. The economic crisis caused social exclusion of the significant part of the youth who after graduation augments number of the unemployed. Young generation shows less interest in running own business. Fear of bankruptcy forcibly decreases economic activity. European Union for few years has been undertaking measures aiming at coordination of the systems combating unemployment in the Member States. In the same time, it has been developing programs supporting actions undertaken in various states in the field of creating jobs, vocational trainings and probations addressed to the youth. Lowering unemployment rate among the youth is one of the priorities of the strategy Europe 2020. European politicians think that unemployment may be decreased based on the active “knowledge triangles” in which education of various levels, employers and business institutions participate and act together. Economic analysts however underline that unemployment among the youth may be decreased only when global economic growth occurs.

Artykuł przedstawia sytuację młodych ludzi na rynku pracy prezentując temat od strony teoretycznej, która w dalszej części poparta jest badaniami – analizą przypadków. Jest wiele powodów dlaczego młodzi ludzie bardziej narażeni są na bezrobocie niż inne grupy wiekowe. Spowodowane jest to głównie brakiem pewności do czego dąży się w życiu, ale także brakiem doświadczenia i niedopasowania umiejętności do rynku pracy. Często jest to spowodowane nieefektywnym przejściem od edukacji do zatrudnienia, które spowodowane jest brakiem powiązania między dziedzinami studiowanymi, a realiami rynku pracy.
The article presents the situation of young people on the labour market through presentation of the topic from the theoretical side, which is further supported by research - case study. There are many reasons why young people are more exposed to unemployment than other age groups. This is mainly due to the lack of certainty about what they would like to accomplish in life, but also due to the lack of experience and skill mismatch on the labour market. This is often caused by inefficient transition from education to employment, which is caused by the lack of connection between the studied areas and the realities of the labour market.

The peculiarities of the transit of Ukrainian youth from education to labour activity and its specificity in Ukraine are studied in this article. An actual situation of the youth segment of the labour market and main causes of youth unemployment, in particular by age groups 15-24, 25-30, 30-34 are analyzed by the authors. Theoretical principles of the transit of Ukrainian youth from education to decent employment, classification features developed by the ILO for differentiation of processes of integration of young people into the labour market are considered. Essence of transit, criteria of decent employment, stages of transition from education to work and three stages of transit are determined. The authors propose the measures to improve the situation with youth employment, to regulate youth unemployment and to increase the success of the transition of youth from education to work in Ukraine.

Literature review has shown that the demographic dimension of the labour market changes remains generally overlooked. The paper aims at filling the gap. The main question asked in the paper is: what are the long-term consequences of the crisis 2008–2009 for youth labour market in the European countries? In order to answer the question, the changes in youth employment to population ratio in 33 European countries are analysed. Any change in the employment to population ratio is a result of combined demographic and labour market effect. While the demographic changes vary between countries; it is argued that a crosscountry comparative analysis that does not take into account the role of demographic shifts is likely to provide a misleading picture of the labour market conditions.
