Opis:
This article looks at a potential divergence of characteristics between backpackers and working holiday makers in Australia. While both are often lumped together within academic study, working holiday makers have a legal right to pursue employment and are entitled to rights and standards of work that come with paid employment, whereas backpackers, as young budget travelers, do not. Drawing on data from autoethnographic fieldwork, qualitative interviews, and empirical analysis of previous studies, this article identifies a conceivable divergence between backpackers and working holiday makers in Australia: the activity of paid employment. The investigation highlights empirical factors and circumstances that contribute to a separation as compared to previous discussions and studies. The paper concludes by suggesting that more emphasis should be given to working holiday makers as a distinct group of working tourists who, in fact, have rights as workers, disjoining them from the label “backpacker,” which is more commonly understood as a form of young budget tourist.

Opis:
Analysis of working conditions in terms of ergonomics is an increasingly popular topic among industrial enterprises. This is primarily due to the development of departments responsible for maintaining safe and healthy working conditions, but also awareness of the impact of working conditions on maintaining safety and maintaining the rhythm of work. Care for working conditions translates into the possibility of maintaining the level of activities performed, which indirectly affects the quality of final products. Conducting activities in the field of shaping ergonomic working conditions in the context of continuous improvement based on the Deming cycle and the principles of conceptual ergonomics seem to be a key approach to care for work safety. Treating this process as a continuous and looped process gives you the ability to react quickly and predict adverse effects. However, constant control, observation, and analysis of the possibilities of implementing improvement solutions is important. The purpose of the article is to compare ergonomic working conditions at selected work stations with the assumptions and plans developed before launching the assembly line. The research included a comparative analysis of results in the form of ergonomic score obtained from TiCon software, based on MTM, UAS, and EAWS methods. The research was carried out at the turn of 2016-2020 in an automotive company dealing in the production of passenger car drive system components.

Opis:
Określono go jako metodę pracy.
The study is an attempt at a holistic view of the determinants of functions and working time. It is considered that a more analytical view is also needed, which takes into account detailed determinants of working time. What is more, those determinants require deepen analysis. The legal determinants, technical-technological and economic conditionings, social and ergonomic aspects were selected as the subject of the analysis. The effect of these analyses was to find a strategic connector. This can provide consistency of objectives between the elements of generative system and the elements of working time. It was defined as a working method. In addition, the article includes a concept for the analysis and reconstruction of the work time system in the enterprise. The results of empirical research were also presented. Empirical research was carried out in the energy sector and in the gastronomy industry. A thesis was adopted which assume responsibility between the time system and the work method. In particular, it was considered that the achievement of the maximum production ceiling is possible, only due to the adjustment of the working time system to the components of the working method. Among the elements of the work method: technicaltechnological conditionings, elements of the work system and social determinants, in particular ergonomic working conditions were distinguished. Changing one of them causes the transformation of the working method and, consequently, requires a proper rectification of the working time system.

Opis:
Objectives The effect of the combination of working hours and working time mismatch on depression is unknown. This study was undertaken to confirm the relationship between working time mismatch and depression with respect to hours worked. Material and Methods The data of 45 514 adult workers that participated in the 6th Korean Working Conditions Survey (KWCS‐VI 2020) were reviewed. Depression was defined using the World Health Organization 5 Well-Being Index (WHO-5) cut-off score of 50. Working time mismatch was defined as a difference between actual and desired working hours. To identify associations between working hour mismatch and depression according to weekly hours worked, stratification analysis was conducted by dividing the study subjects into 3 groups based on actual hours worked weekly (<40 h, 40–<52 h, or ≥52 h). Multiple logistic regression analysis adjusted for potential confounders was performed to calculate odds ratios of depression. Results In the <40 h, 40–<52 h, and ≥52 h groups, the odds ratios (OR) of working more hours than desired were 1.51, 95% CI: 1.20–1.92 (<40 h), 1.70, 95% CI: 1.58–1.84 (40–<52 h), and 1.55, 95% CI: 1.41–1.69 (≥52 h), respectively, compared to a matched actual versus desired working hours group (the matched group). On the other hand, the odds ratios of working fewer hours than desired were 1.17, 95% CI: 1.07–1.27 (<40 h), 1.38, 95% CI: 1.20–1.60 (40–<52 h), and 1.98, 95% CI: 1.24–3.17 (≥52 h), respectively. The risk of depression was found to increase significantly with working time mismatch within all 3 working hour groups. Conclusions Working time mismatch increases the risk of worker depression regardless of hours worked.

ObjectivesA cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate whether working hours mismatch is associated with workaholism.Material and MethodsThis study used the data from the 17th wave (2014) of the nationwide Korean Labor and Income Panel Study. Workaholism was evaluated using the Workaholism Analysis Questionnaire. The final study involved 3157 subjects who answered questions regarding both workaholism and working hours mismatch. To identify the association between working hours mismatch and workaholism according to weekly working hours, a stratification analysis was conducted by dividing the number of working hours/week into 3 groups (≤40 h, 41–59 h, and ≥60 h). The odds ratios were calculated using a multiple logistic regression model, which was adjusted for potential confounders.ResultsThe workers working more hours than desired showed the greatest frequency of workaholism. As regards workaholism, in all weekly working hours groups, the odds ratios of the group working more hours than desired were 4.28, 95% CI: 2.29–7.99 (≥40 h), 2.14, 95% CI: 1.34–3.43 (41–59 h), 3.40, 95% CI: 1.60–7.21 (≤60 h), which were statistically significant compared to the reference (matched) group. There was no statistically significant relationship between working hours and workaholism when stratified according to the mismatch in working hours.ConclusionsThe workers’ working hours mismatch can be significantly related to workaholism.

Objectives The aim of the research was to explore the potential of the concept of work in the activity-based working (ABW) environment, including its impact on stress, back pain and psychomedical parameters of employees subjected to and not subject to relocation. Material and Methods The data of 396 employees of both sexes were analyzed. The study used standardized psychological questionnaires to measure the level of perceived stress (Perceived Stress Scale), the level of readiness for change (Readiness for Change Questionnaire), the severity of health behaviors (Health Behavior Inventory) and the level of general self-efficacy (General Self-Efficacy Scale). The set included questionnaires measuring the level of knowledge of occupational health and safety rules and the frequency of back pain. Results In the group of people whose workplace was moved to another building (in accordance with the concept), the relationship between the level of stress and selected variables: age, sense of generalized self-efficacy was checked. A significant negative correlation between the level of stress and age was confirmed (ρ = –0.16, p = 0.023), meaning a decrease in the level of stress with age. The level of stress correlated positively with the sense of efficacy (ρ = 0.21, p = 0.003), which means, the higher the sense of effectiveness, the higher the level of stress. In addition, it was confirmed that the level of stress in the group of people changing their location differed significantly from the general population. Conclusions Work in the ABW concept can contribute to the improvement of interpersonal communication and facilitate the social integration of employees and better evaluation of work in this model. Work in concept has not been shown to be a protective factor against back pain in people with obesity. It was confirmed that in people relocated from traditional office to office in the concept, relocation was associated with stress, but also with a greater sense of self-efficacy.

Working memory training (WMT) has recently become one of the most debated issues in the field of cognitive psychology. Since working memory (WM) is considered a strong correlate of IQ, numerous researchers have been trying to increase the latter by training the former. Proven effectiveness of working memory training could lead to its application in the therapy of many cognitive impairments. WMT could be also used as a tool of improving cognitive functioning of healthy subjects. However, almost every publication claiming to provide evidence for achieving one of above mentioned objectives has been criticised, mostly because of methodological shortcomings. The aim of my presentation is to extract potential sources of inconsistencies existing between the authors of meta-analysis and reviews of WMT research. For this reason I take a closer look at results and conclusions of several meta-analysis and reviews. As a result I point few indications that should be taken into consideration in future studies on WMT effectiveness.

Idiopathic Parkinson’s disease (PD) impairs working memory, but the exact nature of this deficit in terms of the underlying cognitive mechanisms is not well understood. In this study patients with mild clinical symptoms of PD were compared with matched healthy control subjects on a computerized battery of tests designed to assess spatial working memory and verbal working memory. In the spatial working memory task, subjects were required to recall a sequence of four locations. The verbal working memory task was methodologically identical except for the modality of the stimuli used, requiring subjects to orally recall a sequence of six digits. In either case, half of the sequences were structured in a way that allowed ‘chunking’, while others were unstructured. This manipulation was designed to dissociate the strategic component of task performance from the memory-load component. Mild medicated patients with PD were impaired only on the structured versions of the verbal working memory tasks. The analogous deficit in the spatial working memory was less pronounced. These findings are in agreement with the hypothesis that working memory deficits in PD reflect mainly the executive component of the tasks and that the deficits may be at least partly modality-independent.

The paper presents one of the possible ways optimization of motion of the harbour crane grab minimization of the working (unloading) cycle, energy consumption and material dissipation during the grab discharging. The optimization procedure of the working cycle is divided into two phases. Firstly, it is optimization of the cargo and grab motion and, secondly, determination of motion of the crane mechanisms upon the obtained optimal parameters of cargo and grab trajectory. The developed mathematical model enables direct application of the optimal contral theory methods, i.e. a method of optimization of cargo and grab motion by making use of Pontryagins maximum principle. All relevant expressions are derived analytically.
W pracy przedstawiono jeden z możliwych sposobów optymalizacji ruchu chwytaka dźwigu portowego oraz minimalizacji cyklu roboczego pod kątem ograniczania zużycia energii oraz strat materiału podczas rozładunku.
