The study was conducted to find out female farmers’ agricultural information needs and their impact on food production, in the Imbulpe DS Division in Sri Lanka. Of the female farmers in the area, 238 were taken as the sample for the study from seven selected Grama Niladhari (GN) divisions in the area. Female farmers were selected by using a simple random sampling method from these purposively selected GN divisions. A pre-tested, interviewer-administered questionnaire survey was used as the primary data collection method from March to July 2019. Data analysis was done by using descriptive statistics and chi-square analysis. The result revealed that the majority (62.6%) of respondents were middle aged (40-59 years), married, and belonged to families with 4-5 members. Most respondents (64.3 %) had studied up to junior secondary education level. Their average farm land size is 0.84 acres and they have farming experience of about 15 years. Most of the respondents mentioned that they had obtained higher levels of information needs about improved crop varieties. In addition, female farmers reported that they moderately need information on application of agrochemicals, improved market systems and modern farming technologies. Extension agents and other female farmers act as their major sources of agricultural information and ICT equipment acts as the least important agricultural information source in this area. Moreover, there is a significant positive association between the agricultural information needs and food production. Therefore, providing necessary agricultural information and enhanced utilization of ICT tools for agricultural information sources, and encouraging female farmers to participate in farming societies will lead to enhanced food production in this area.

Opis:
This study was conducted to identify the agricultural extension needs of women farmers and to assess the impact of their participation in agricultural extension programs on vegetable production in the area. A sample of 145 women farmers from five Grama Niladhari (GN) divisions of the DS division was randomly selected for the study. Data were collected from a researcher administered survey and analyzed using descriptive statistics and a regression analysis. As per the results, a significant number of the women farmers have participated in most of the extension and training programs. However, some of them haven’t registered in the farmer organization present in the area. Agricultural extension agents of the area have focused on dissemination of more information regarding modern farming technologies, organic farming, application of agrochemicals and fertilizers, and improving market systems. The majority of women farmers have used the knowledge received from the extension programs in vegetable farming activities. Furthermore, there is a significant and positive relationship between participation in extension programs by women farmers and an increase in vegetable production. Therefore, encouragement of women farmers to register in the farmer organization, provision of timely important extension service to them, organizing training programs, and workshops to disseminate agricultural information are crucial to further enhancement of vegetable production in this area.

Opis:
Although U.S. women’s contributions to farming are vital, scholarship on U.S. female farmers is limited, especially in the U.S. South. Twelve women farmers in the Southern United States were interviewed about their experiences and opportunities in production agriculture. This study offers further nuance of the sociological and theoretical complexity and interpretive power of difference feminism and intersectionality, focusing on region and place, to a concept we call Southern Rural Feminism. Participants promote women’s equality yet acknowledge gender differences between the binary gender categories of men and women, where the uniqueness of a woman’s touch offers value to the agriculture industry. Nearly all participants’ everyday life in southern agriculture was grounded in the participants’ Christian faith, and some women used Christianity to explain gender dynamics. Within the context of the traditional rural southern culture, all women experienced differential gendered treatment in the industry, from welcomed gentlemanly behavior and gendered slights to more severe discrimination and harassment. Despite widespread gender problems, findings suggest most women do not view systematic gender oppression in the industry, do not adhere to feminist labels, and are cautiously optimistic about the future of female farmers. Incorporating theoretical discussions of Southern Rural Feminism is vital given U.S. Southern Farm Women’s restricted material access to land, and full participation in production agriculture, a field with tremendous gender inequities.

Opis:
This study assessed the factors affecting women’s access to agro-input resources on Oyo State, Nigeria. A total of 105 respondents were selected for the study. Primary data was collected with the use of questionnaire. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were employed for the study. Results of analysis shows that most of the respondents had primary education (68.9%), 3 to 4years of experience (66.7%) and commonly used inputs were improved seed (53.3%), organic fertilizer (52.4%) and herbicide/pesticide (47.6%). Main source of information was extension agent (98.1%). Most of the respondents had: free access to water for irrigation (93.3%) and agricultural extension services (74.3%), restricted access to improved seeds (94.3%), organic fertilizer (90.5%) and water pumping machine (56.2%) and no access to tubewell and washbore (70.5%). Main constraint to accessibility of inputs was lack of credit facilities (98.1%). The study concludes that the socio-economic factors affecting women’s accessing to agricultural input resources were their age, religion and educational status. Hence the need for government agricultural policy and programmes aimed at distributing agricultural input in the study area that should strictly ensure that women of increased age, a particular religious affiliation and more educated ones should not be unnecessary favoured.
Większość respondentek deklarowała swobodny dostęp do wody w celu nawadniania (93,3%) i do usług upowszechniania wiedzy (74,3%), ograniczony dostęp do udoskonalonych materiałów siewnych (94,3%), nawozów organicznych (90,5%) i pompy wody (56,2%) oraz brak dostępu do studni głębinowych i odwiertów wody (70,5%).

Opis:
The subject of this article is the analysis of the changes and the legacy of the legal aspects of the Rural Women’s Associations. Its specific purpose is to characterise their history, the legal forms of functioning: as associations, as independent Rural Women’s Associations and the changes resulting from entering into force of the Act of November 9, 2018 on the Rural Women’s Associations. The Author of the article used the dogmatic and the historical-legal methods. The Act of 2018 on the Rural Women’s Associations introduced numerous new legal solutions. Currently, the associations cultivate traditions, contributing to the rural development. They show initiative and build a good image of their area. The implementation of many activities undertaken by the associations is possible thanks to the financing granted from the state budget. Pursuant to the Act on the Rural Women’s Associations of November 9, 2018, a separate organisational formula was created for RWAs which constitute voluntary, independent and self-governing social organisations of village residents. Based on the previously applicable law, the Rural Housewives’ Associations could be created as part of agricultural associations as their independent units. They could also function in the form of associations. The legislator has granted the legal personality to the associations, which allows them to conduct business activity on their own account and use the financial support the public funds. The Rural Women’s Associations perform an important function in the rural environment. They support the integration of local communities, cultivate local and regional customs, develop women’s entrepreneurship in rural areas, combining tradition with modernity.

Opis:
The Act of 9 November 2018 on rural housewives’ circles introduced a third legal form for these organisations, which prompted a return to discussions on the role of circles and the ideological principles behind their formation and activities. The paper presents the development and functions of the rural housewives’ circles movement in Poland over the last 100 years. Basing on the analysis of literature covering the period from the establishment of the first circles to the present day, the author attempts to prove that contrary to popular views and opinions, the movement was not homogeneous and was characterised by great diversity. He also identifies the attempts to use the circles for political purposes, for a kind of “colonisation of the villages”, which, according to the author, was never entirely successful. This is evidenced by the ever-present significant, independent, and autonomous initiatives undertaken by the rural housewives’ circles, examples of which are provided for in the paper.
